Sunday 11th February

Beds & Herts Women’s Division One

 An exciting game to start the Beds & Herts Round-Up this week at the top of Division One. Leaders St Albans Ladies travelled to 3rd placed Sherrardswood Ladies on Sunday the home side getting off to a fantastic start going 1-0 in the 1st minute Jade Ryan scoring the goal. That was how it remained right up until the final minute of the 1st half went Eleanor Lovelock struck the ball into the back of the net to see the sides go in level. Terrible weather during the match Sherrardswood retook the lead 6 minutes into the 2nd half with Laurie Marris on target. Again St Albans came back to level the scores the lead lasting just 5 minutes before Kerry Twigg scored to make it 2-2. Sherrardswood going in front once more Manjinder Atwal making it 3-2 before Twigg netting her 2nd of the game pulled it back to 3-3. Into the last five minute and both sides found the back of their opponents goal to take home a point each in a 4-4 draw, Marris with her 2nd of the match Nicola Dark getting the goal for St Albans who remain 2 points clear at the top of the table still unbeaten in the league.

   2nd placed Northwood Ladies couldn’t capitalise on leaders St Albans draw as they too were held to a point away from home against Flitwick Ladies on Sunday. The weather poor right across the area Flitwick were a player short too. Kierra Gabriel scoring the goal. Emma Steele on target for Northwood. Just the 2nd point on the board for Flitwick who have struggled for numbers all season a good result up against the side placed 2nd in the league.

A big win away from home too for 5th placed Sharnbrook WFC on Sunday against bottom side Watton Ladies. Gemma Franklin setting the ball rolling in the 17th minute putting Sharnbrook into the lead. Charlie Mullins and Victoria Boyde both getting a goal midway through the 1st half to make it 3-0. Emma Butler adding a brace in the latter stages to see Sharnbrook leading 5-0 at half-time. The goals continued to come in regular intervals in the 2nd half Butler completing her hat-trick 3 minutes into the restart, Hoffi Pursey scoring a minute later 7-0 up Pursey scored another on 70 minutes. Butler adding another 2 goals to take her to 5 for the match, Pursey then completing her hat-trick. Franklin having started the goals wrapped it up with the final goal in a 12-0 win.

Beds & Herts Women’s Division Two

Division Two leaders Garston Ladies 2nd XI saw their game called off at the weekend. It was Welwyn Pegasus Sapphires who capitalised moving up from 3rd in the table into 2nd winning away to 5th placed Letchworth Garden City Eagles on Sunday, edging the result with a 2-1 win to claim all 3 points, Sophie Mandel and Mandy Mercer with their goals. Louise Mylles on target for Letchworth. The gap to the leaders just 2 points both have played 9.

   Royston Town Ladies Development could have drawn level on points with leaders Garston Ladies 2nd XI themselves with a win on Sunday. As it was they were trailing 3-1 at home to Hitchin Belles on Sunday. Keira How, Charlotte Peters and Gemma Smith getting the goals for Hitchin Belles. Royston came back in the 2nd half to score twice and see the points shared in a 3-3 draw, Abby Laughlin, Harriet Smith and Kelly Yarwood with their goals. Move onto 20 points but drop a place on goal difference to Welwyn Pegasus Sapphires.

Beds & Herts Women’s Division Three

2nd placed Wheathamstead Wanderers Ladies move to within 2 points of leaders Bedford Ladies Development in Beds & Herts Division Three winning at home to 3rd place Welwyn Pegasus Azures on Sunday. Janiece Allen and Anya Fletchman Brown both on the scoresheet with a goal each for Welwyn Pegasus in each half, Wheathamstead Wanderers out scoring their opponents 5-2 to win the 3 points and they have a game in hand on the leaders.

   A 1st win of the season for bottom club Potters Bar United Ladies coming at last at the 13th attempt. Were away to 4th placed Woburn & Wavendon Lionesses Clarets on Sunday have been on the losing side to a narrow score a few times this season, at last the narrow scoreline went their way as they celebrated their 1st 3 point haul of the season with a 2-1 win, Lauren Englefield and Mandy Morgan with the goals. Charlotte Demmon scoring for Woburn & Wavendon in the 10th minute.
