Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership
Newmarket Town Ladies came back from 2-1 down with 15 minutes left to win the game 3-2 with an injury time winner on Sunday to open up a 6 point lead at the top of the Premiership. A late change of venue for Newmarket Town hosting Netherton United Ladies. The visitors got off to a great start Emily Johnson scoring to put them 1 up after just 5 minutes. The lead didn’t last long however with Cindy Ponder putting the ball home to make it 1-1 5 minutes later. Both sides had great chances to take the lead but the score remained 1-1 at half-time. Netherton United Ladies retook the lead going 2-1 up with 15 minutes left to play captain Georgina Parrett getting the goal. Into the last 10 minutes Newmarket sending players up for a corner their captain Bethany Woodfield scoring with a diving header to level it up at 2-2. Into injury time and Newmarket Town grabbed the winning goal striker Nadine Basson putting the all home to see the 3 points won. Newmarket Town Ladies 3-2 Netherton United Ladies
In the other match in the Premiership at the weekend Cambridge University Ladies were hosting Park Ladies. Amanda Wainwright giving the home side an early lead scoring on 7 minutes. A strong 1st half for Cambridge University going on to score 3 more goals to lead 4-0 at half-time. Bianca Wilcox, Taylor Lynn-Jones and Nina Coyle all getting a goal. Wilcox scored a 2nd goal with 15 minutes left in the 2nd half to see the 3 points won.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Invitation Cup
One outstanding tie left in the quarter finals of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Invitation Cup played this Sunday and St Ives Town Ladies set up a semi-final against Cambridge City Ladies with a 2-0 home win against fellow Premiership side ICA Sports Ladies. The goals scored by Amy Seymour-Shove and Georgia Stancombe.
Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup
The early stages of this season’s Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup were played in a group format with 3 to 4 teams in a group 8 in all the winners progressing to the quarter-finals. In Group H March Town United Ladies & P&L Motors Diamonds couldn’t be separated level on points and goal difference after 3 games they played again this Sunday to determine who would progress through to the knock-out stages. Despite goals from Emma Searle and a brace for Emma Cross for March Town United Ladies they exit the competition after P&L Motors Diamonds went on to win 8-3. Will be away to Premiership side St Ives Town Ladies in the quarter final this coming Sunday.
Netherton United Ladies had already booked their place in the semi-finals, one more quarter-final was played this Sunday with Bar Hill Ladies from the Premiership hosting Championship North side Swineshead Institute Ladies. Bar Hill Ladies progress courtesy of a 4-1 win.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Junior Invitation Cup
Elsewhere in Cambridgeshire their was plenty more cup football being played at the weekend with 3 quarter finals taking place in the Junior Invitation Cup. Holders Cambridge United WFC Reserves were at home on Sunday taking on Championship South side Fulbourn Bluebirds. Two goals each for Lucy Gateson and Lauren Gibson seeing Cambridge United into the semi-finals with a 4-1 victory.
The other 2 quarter-finals played in the Junior Invitation Cup involved all Championship clashes. Was a Wisbech derby in the all Championship North tie with Wisbech St Mary Ladies hosting last season’s beaten finalists Wisbech Town Ladies. Goals from Sophie Gutteridge, Faye Kowalewsky and a penalty from Kyra Clarke seeing Wisbech Town beat Wisbech St Mary 3-1 to reach the semi-finals once again. Carlie Knight with the 2nd half goal for Wisbech St Mary.
In the all Championship South quarter-final it was a rare win for Cambridge Rangers away from home as they edged out Isleham United Ladies to reach the semi-finals of the Junior Invitation Cup. Isleham scoring from the penalty spot Olivia Cafferelli putting the ball home, Cambridge Rangers winning the game 2-1. Cambridge City Ladies Development also advance to the semi-finals of the Junior Invitation Cup after they were awarded a home win against Riverside Reserves.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North
One league game in the Championship North this Sunday with Boston United Ladies hosting bottom side Thurlby Tigers. Goals from Demi Barai, Victoria Bradford, Bethany Britton and Ella Marie Mcororey seeing Boston to a 4-0 win the 3 points lifting them above Wisbech Town Ladies into 6th place.
