The Round-Up

Essex – Sunday 18th December

Essex Women’s Premier Division

Lawford Ladies have been leading the Essex Women’s Premier Division table for the whole of the season, keeping Harlow Town Ladies at bay in 2nd spot both sides unbeaten, Harlow Town moving above Lawford last Sunday now end the year leading the table by 5 points winning at home whilst Lawford saw their last match of 2016 postponed. Harlow Town were at home playing 3rd placed Eastern Avenue looking to make it 10 wins from 10 in the league to end a fantastic 1st full year as a club. Won the match 2-0 to move onto 30 points for the season opening up a healthy lead at the top of the Premier Division.

Confusion surrounds the result in the match between Chelmsford City Ladies and Alresford Colne Rangers as the result is listed as a 4-1 away win for Alresford everywhere bar Chelmsford City Ladies own website that has them as the 4-1 victors and have the 4 goals credited to Mia Brisley, Angela Holden and a brace for Charlotte Palmer. Not the 1st time a result gets listed back to front and will eventually be corrected. The win sees Chelmsford City end 2016 in 5th place in the Premier Division table.

Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies end the year in 6th spot in the Premier Division table with a big win away to Wickford Town Ladies who netted 3 goals in the match, Autumn Ranger, Danielle Dickens and Charlee Twigg all putting the ball into the back of the net. Beacon Hill Rovers hit back with more than double that tally to win the match and the 3 points, Jo Smeaton scoring 4 goals herself in the match, Sam Lloyd, Emma Norton and Amy Pursor all scoring a goal a piece in a 7-3 win.

Chigwell Ladies finished the year with a 3-1 home win against Collier Row Tigers. Their 2nd league victory of the season moving them up to 8th in the Premier Division table. Hollie Butterworth, Amy Smith and Amber Elliot scoring Chigwell’s goals.

Essex Women’s Division One

The contest for the Essex Women’s Division One title looks to be between new sides Corringham Cosmos and Frontiers Ladies both well clear of the chasing pack as 2016 draws to a close. Corringham Cosmos remaining 3 points ahead of Frontiers in 2nd with a large home win against FC Clacton Ladies who dished out a 14-0 defeat last Sunday were on the wrong end of the result this time around going down 10-0 as Corringham made it 10 wins for the season moving onto 30 points.

Frontiers Ladies are 3 points back but crucially have 2 games in hand on the league leaders as they recorded their 9th straight win in the league on Sunday at home playing Collier Row Athletic in 5th spot in the Division One table. Frontiers scoring 5 goals without reply to secure the 3 points with Sharon Ferguson scoring a brace, a brace too for Emma Best (pictured) and a goal for Claire Davidson. Frontiers and Corringham Cosmos have yet to play each other in the league, two big games coming in the New Year.

Hatfield Peveral Ladies also new to the league this season end the year in 3rd place in the Division One table with a big away win at Benfleet Villa Ladies on Sunday. Christa Osman scoring 4 goals in the game for the away side with Megan Warner and Michelle Hodgson also scoring a goal each in a 6-1 victory.

6-1 was also the winning score at home for Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves hosting Wickford Town Ladies Reserves on Sunday. Charlotte Barnard bagging herself a hat-trick for Chelmsford City with the other 3 goals shared between, Emily Kendle, Emma Sharpe and Kayla-Marie Everett as they win for the 5th time this season to close up with the sides in mid-table.
