Beds & Herts Women’s Division Two

Welwyn Pegasus Sapphires are a new name this season but containing a host of familiar names having formerly been Panshanger Ladies. Welwyn Pegasus have two sides entering the Beds & Herts Leagues this season, the Azures in the league below but by no means are they a 1st and Reserve/Development side. The Sapphires do contain a large majority of Panshanger’s 1st team squad from last season but with so many player on their books the new look and name change making perfect sense, and I like the names refreshing and new.

A positive start for the Sapphires beginning their season away to Royston Town Ladies Reserves. Chemise Huitson scoring a brace in the game with another goal from Ellie Burke to see them start with a 3-0 win.

A Hitchin derby to start the season with Hitchin Town Ladies relegated last season hosting Hitchin Belles. A 2nd half brace for Amy Jack sealing a 2-0 win for Hitchin Belles to start their season flirted with the title last season, are they ready to mount a stronger challenge this season?

The Blues and the Clarets have swapped leagues with Woburn & Wavendon Lionesses Blues new last season winning the Division Three title with ease whilst the Clarets in Division Two were relegated. The Blues started the season away to fellow promoted side Evergreen Eagles returning to Division Two after being relegated the previous season. A tight game the sides earning a share of the points drawing 1-1. Samantha Feeney scoring for Evergreen Eagles, Bethany Young for Woburn & Wavendon.

The Round-Up – Beds & Herts 23/04/17

The Round-Up

Beds & Herts – Sunday 23rd April

Beds & Herts Women’s Division One

Has been the case all season long basically the Beds & Herts Women’s Division One title looks to be going all the way. Just the one game played in the division this Sunday and that was enough to alter the possible scenarios yet again. Bishops Stortford Ladies climb up into 2nd in the table the highest they have been in the table all season level on points with leaders Sherrardswood Ladies and 3rd placed Sandy Ladies all on 33 points. Given a home win against Letchworth Garden City Eagles from last weekends postponement Bishops Stortford were at home this Sunday taking on Garston Ladies, Broghan McHale opened the scoring for Bishops Stortford with Kathryn Stanley doubling the score 6 minutes before half-time Natasha Coppin and Jess Croney added 2 more goals 2nd half before Coppin grabbed her 2nd in injury time the final score 5-1 to Bishops Stortford.

Sandy Ladies have 2 games left to play the other title contenders 1. A match against Sharnbrook WFC in midweek if Sandy get the 3 points they move onto 36 but at the moment have an inferior goal difference to both Sherrardswood and Bishops Stortford. Will be an interesting final day this Sunday with Sandy hosting Bishops Stortford a point would be enough to give Sandy the title so long as they don’t mess up the Sharnbrook game. If Bishops Stortford were to win that might not still be enough to get the title as Sherrardswood at home to Sharnbrook could still pip it on goal difference. Right now anyone one from 3, sandy and Sharnbrook are playing as this Round-Up is being written Sharnbrook ending their league season with a huge say in where the title will go.

Garston Ladies were also in action last evening taking on Houghton Athletic Ladies a 1-0 win giving Garston the 3 points.

The Chris Renshaw Trophy

Sandy Ladies and Sharnbrook WFC will also meet each other in the final of The Chris Renshaw Trophy on Sunday May 7th after they won their semi-final matches on Sunday. Sandy were away to fellow Division One side St Albans Ladies was a tight contest St Albans creating several chances reduced to 10 through injury.  Sandy Ladies leading through a Chloe Reeves goal in the 1st half a long delay as an ambulance was required for the injured St Albans player played on but couldn’t find an equalising goal, Sandy progressing to the new competitions first ever final. Wishing St Albans injured player all the best and hope it isn’t too serious.

In the other semi-final Sharnbrook WFC were away to Division Two side Flitwick Ladies. The game going all the way to extra-time, Keirra Gabriel scoring for Flitwick, Claire Smith on target midway through the 1st half for Sharnbrook. Into extra-time and Sharnbrook scored early, Charlotte Mullins with her 9th goal of the season scoring the winning goal to see Sharnbrook into the final.

In Beds & Herts Women’s Division Three, Woburn & Wavendon Lionesses Blues had already won the league with a game to spare, one game left away to 2nd placed Evergreen Eagles they were looking to end the season with one of the few 100% records left in the league.
