The Tuesday Round-Up – Edition Four

It’s Tuesday once again and into October it times for Edition Four of The Tuesday Round-Up bringing you up to date with all the women’s football in the East of England. Plenty to cover once again too, cup football in the 1st Round’s of the FAWPL Cup and Plate as well as the 1st Round of the Beds & Herts and Suffolk Women’s League Cups. League action to from Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex too along with all the Regional league results too. Let’s crack on.

FAWPL Cup 1st Round

   Starting with the 1st Round matches in the FAWPL Cup featuring sides from the FAWPL Southern Division and South East Division One. The 1st tie features Cardiff City Ladies v Charlton Ladies who met seven days ago in the league back then Cardiff ended Charlton’s unbeaten start to the season, suffered more misery in Wales as Cardiff ran out 3-0 winners all the goals coming in the 1st half scored by Ffion Price, Michelle Green and Kelly Aldridge.

  Brighton & Hove Albion WFC having beaten Portsmouth Ladies 1-3 in extra-time in the Preliminary Round of the FAWPL Cup last Sunday travelled to Queens park Rangers Ladies this Sunday, was a comfortable win against the side currently propping up the FAWPL Southern Division with Amy Taylor and Charlotte Gurr making it 0-2 in the opening 15 minutes. Elly Maggs pulled it back to 1-2 on 27 minutes but Taylor made it 1-3 before half time, in the 2nd period Brighton added 4 more goals with Kate Natkiel, Ellie Russell and Deanna Cooper all scoring Taylor completing her hat-trick too the final score 1-7.

  A 2nd half Maegen Doyle strike was the difference as C&K Basildon Ladies beat West Ham United Ladies 1-0. Tottenham Hotspur Ladies progressed to the 2nd Round of the FAWPL Cup with a 4-1 home win against Plymouth Argyle Ladies the gaol scorers,Avilla Bergin, Jennifer Moore, Leah Rawle and Maya Vio. Kayley Lane netted in injury time for Plymouth. A trip to Suffolk for Forest Green Rovers Ladies their opponents Ipswich Town Ladies. Ran out 1-4 winners over a depleted Ipswich side Kirsty Richardson netting a goal in either half with Amy Baker and Charlotte King also netting. Amanda Crump scored Ipswich’s goal.

  Old Actonians Ladies welcomed Isle of Wight side Shanklin Ladies to their ground they were to return home knocked out of the competition with Old Actonians winning 3-0  Jessica Byrne netting 2, Charlotte Murphy with the other goal. In the final tie featuring a side in the East it was bad news for Cambridge United WFC as they were knocked out of the Cup beaten 0-4 by Chichester City Ladies an og opening goal then Shannon Albuery, Chloe Dowdell and Jade Widdow all found the back of the net.

FAWPL Plate 1st Round

  It was the 1st Round of the FAWPL Plate where this weekends action on the Supporting Women’s Football Blog comes from and it was a cracker of a tie too. Full of drama and excitement between Denham United Ladies & Milton Keynes Dons Ladies. Goals from Leah Cudone and Charley Wright had given the visitors a 0-2 lead at half-time could have been a different story had Denham taken their chances. They did 2nd half however as they came back to pull the scores back to 2-2 the goals from Helen Capewell and Lauren Cox to force extra-time when that failed to bring a winning goal the tie went to penalties drama their too after the regular 5 it stood 2-2 we were going to sudden death next to were scored before Milton Keynes blazed one over the bar up stepped Capewell score and Denham were through to the next round, she did! Denham United Ladies v Milton Keynes Dons Ladies

   Elsewhere it was a convincing 5-0 victory for Coventry United Ladies away to Maidenhead United Ladies, Helen Dermody giving them a 1st half lead before 4 more goals came 2nd half, Ashleigh Neville with a brace, Danielle Selmes and Jade Brook with one each. 5-0 was the scoreline for Crystal Palace Ladies too at home to Luton Town Ladies, Nicha Pyelt with a goal, 2 more from Rochelle Shakes was matches by Mary Robinson who came off the bench to net twice too.

  Trip down to the South West for Norwich City Ladies a 7 hour trip and overnight stay for an 11am kick off against Exeter City Ladies came away with a place in the hat for the 2nd round winning 1-2, Emma Allsopp opening the scoring for Norwich in the 5th minute, Vicky Barter brought the scores back to 1-1 at half-time for Exeter before Norwich went on to score the winner on the 85th minute mark Abigail Gower with the strike. Trip to Bedford Ladies for Lewes Ladies both sides short on form Julia Louis-Joseph gave the visitors a 0-1 lead at half-time before a place in the 2nd Round was secured in the 2nd half with goals from Rachel Palmer and Daniella Lane to make the final score 0-3. Last tie to bring you was between Southampton Saints and Gillingham FC Ladies. The visitors had a 0-3 lead at half-time a Lydia Wills goal sandwiched between a Madison North brace. Fought of a fightback from the home side as Southampton Saints pulled it back to 2-3 with goals from Carla Perkins and Jessica Lewry, Gillingham FC Ladies starting with 9 players from their centre of excellence progress holding on to win 2-3.

   Eastern Regional Leagues

    In the Premier Division, Billericay Town Ladies continue their unbeaten start to the season in their 5th league match on the road in Norfolk as they faced Acle United Ladies who are still without a win in the league after suffering a 2-5 defeat 6 of those goals coming in an action packed 1st half Kate Pasque and Jenna Thurtle netting for Acle, Paris Smith and Vicky Kinsman with 2 goals a piece the 5th added by Lucy Wyatt for Billericay who are 4 points clear at the top of the table. Stevenage Ladies are hot on Billericay’s heels though consolidating 2nd spot with their 4 straight league win 100% start to the season winning 2-1 at home to AFC Sudbury Ladies, Alex North giving Stevenage a 1-0 lead at half-time. Sasha Diston pulled the scores level from the penalty spot for Sudbury. Stevenage went on to seal the win Nicole Persehky with the winning goal have 2 games in hand on Billericay.

   Brentwood Town Ladies climb up into 3rd spot in the table after they came away from Gt Wakering Rovers with a 2-3 victory after an exciting match Ashley Debham giving Brentwood the lead at half-time Georgia Holdaway equalised early in the 2nd half, Brentwood retook the lead through Debnam again, before Holdaway struck with her 2nd of the match. Brentwood’s Chelcee Grimes scored to make it 2-3 and this time the visitors held on for the win. Haringey Borough Women won for the 2nd Sunday in a row 2-1 this time on their own patch against Colchester Town Ladies, Anele Komani with both the goals. In the other match in the Premier Division Gt Shelford Ladies recorded their 1st league win of the season on the road 0-3 at Leverstock Green Ladies the goal scorers Amanda Binge, Sophie Ugar and Katie Luddy.

   In the ERWFL Division One East Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies won for the 1st time this season in convincing fashion to beating the 10 players of Ipswich Wanderers Ladies 8-1. Abbie Simmonds and Georgia Fraser both netting hat-tricks Danielle Styles and Taylor Adcock a goal each. Kristie Turner scored Ipswich Wanderers goal. Silver End United Ladies move into 2nd in the table Lynsey Bowman scoring 4 goals, Rebecca Hollocks 1 as they beat Bury Town Ladies 5-1 at home. Catherine Upton with Bury’s goal.

  In the ERWFL Division One West Stevenage Ladies Reserves remain unbeaten at the top of the table moving onto 8 points following a 0-2 win away to Sawbridgeworth Town WFC, Alexandria Moir with both of the goals. Hot on their heels though are Royston Town Ladies playing just their 2nd league match of the season made it 2 wins out of 2, 4-1 away to Colney Heath Ladies, Samantha Tinsley and a Georgia Gannaway hat-trick sealing the 3 points. a 7 goal thriller between Offley & Stopsley Ladies and Hoddesdon Owls Ladies, with the home side edging it 4-3 Rianne Townsend-Brown x3 and Sheree Oliver with Offley’s goals, Hoddesdon’s goalscorers Daniella Martucci with 2 Rebecca Scola with the other.

   One other match to bring you Long Melford Ladies were in League Cup action in the 1st Round suffered a 1-7 defeat at the hands of Writtle Ladies, Courtney Clarke and Adigail Fry both netting 2 the other strikes from Georgina Tricker, Charlotte Walker and substitute Mollie Debell. Megan Partridge with the goal for Long Melford.

Norfolk

  With leaders Thorpe United Ladies not in action Aylsham FC Ladies keeping pace with them neck and neck and unbeaten at the start of the season took advantage to go top of Division One, 5 wins out of 5 and another shed load of goals too running out 1-8 winners at Lynn Ladies Leanne Woodward with 4 goals the pick of the goal scorers, Abbie Charlton added a brace, Sophie Burr-Walpole and Emma Gillespie also scoring, Shelley Woods win Lynn Ladies goal the newly promoted side suffering 3 straight defeats now, a coming against the sides most likely to battle it out for the title. Both Brandon Town Ladies and Wymondham Town Ladies carry on their 100% record at the start of the season too. Wymondham away from home putting 6 goals without reply past bottom side Mulbarton Belles, Laura Wiseman with 3, Amber Cantwell with 2 Rachel Cossey also netting. A closer margin of victory for Brandon Town Ladies away to Long Stratton Ladies the final score 1-2 Brooke Wickens and Tiffany Forshaw with the goals for the visitors, Ellie Sostman with Long Stratton’s goal. Fakenham Town Ladies finally won at the 5th attempt beating Bungay Town Ladies who are still looking for their 1st points themselves 5-1 Harriet Rudd Victoria Riddiford and a hat-trick from Becky Hills earning the 3 points.

  In Division Two, North Walsham Angels Ladies took full advantage of Kirkley & Pakefield Ladies match being postponed to move above them at the top of the table. Luci Middleton finding the back of the net 5 times in a 3-7 win Imogen Carver and Jenna Bedwell with North Walsham’s other goals. The points were shared between Bohemians Ladies and Red Rose Ladies, Shannon Dade and Toni Hughes giving the home side their 1st point of the season Red Rose’s goals scored by Stacey High and Megan Skinner. Sprowston Ladies picked up their 2nd win of the season winning 0-5 at Stalham Town Ladies moving 3 points clear in 4th place in the table.

   Two matches in Division Three and with leaders Gorleston FC Ladies match postponed a chance for Harleston Town Ladies to claim top spot made it 4 wins out of 4 beating Cromer Town Ladies 6-1 at home the goals from Miryam Ruiz and Nicole Hollands with Lacey Andrews hitting 4 goals into the back of the net, Kyra Cole with the goal for Cromer Town. 1st win of the season for Toftwood Ladies who climb up into 4th place Katie Hart with 4 of the goals in a 1-7 win away to bottom side Red Rose United.

Suffolk 

   In Suffolk it was the Quarter Finals of the Women’s League Cup (only 7 sides competing in the Suffolk league) Something of a surprise result too as East Bergholt United Ladies who have been in great form at the start of the season were knocked out of the competition losing 1-3 at home to Bacton United Ladies, Lois Balfour with 2, Francesca Rainbird also scoring. Victoria Campbell with the goal for East Bergholt. In the other quarter final tie played today Brantham Athletic won 1-5 on the road at Leiston St Margerats Ladies.

Cambridgeshire

   Cambridge United WFC moved 3 points clear at the top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership with a high scoring 5-3 victory at home to bottom side Newmarket Town Ladies, Emma Roberts netted twice with the other goals from Clara Greed Isabella Simmons and Ffion Varney. Jordanne Sillitoe hit 2 for Newmarket with Joely Kirby adding a goal. Netherton United Ladies playing their 2nd league match of the season recorded their 1st win,  4-0 at home to Bar Hill Women to climb into 3rd place in the table 4 different goalscorers, Rachel Anderson, Yasmin Green Megan Parrett and Kerry Camwell.

  In the Championship North thing’s are getting off to a slow start most sides having only played 2 matches, Bourne Ladies take over at the top following their 2nd league win of the season a 1-2 away victory at March Town United Ladies, Rosanna Baker and Tracey Duxbury-Reid with the Bourne goals, Shannon Kelly with the 1st half goal for March. Wisbech Town Ladies won to claim their 1st 3 points of the season a 1-3 scoreline away to Stamford Ladies, Jasmine Luckett with a brace Sophie Gutteridge with the other goal. Downham Town Ladies had to wait till October to even begin their league campaign started with a win 2-3 on the road to Swinehead Institute Ladies, Georgia Brown with 2, George Lingham also scoring.

  Another side finally getting their league campaign up and running were new league entrants Comberton Ladies in the Championship South. Jump into 3rd spot following a 4-1 at home to Isleham United Ladies, Kirsty Hilton, Susanna Horan and Kerri Hilton-Taylor x2 with the goals, Laura McAllister scoring for Isleham.

   Were also 3 more ties in the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup 1st Round taking place this Sunday, Wisbech St Marys Ladies smashed 17 goals past Tydd St Marys Ladies, Toni Lewis the pick of the bunch with 4 goals. Cambridge City Ladies came up against a Cambridge University Women’s side just turning up to start the season Cambridge City hit them for 8 goals without reply Grace Stanley scoring 4 of the goals, Phillipa Witherspoon 2, with 1 a piece for India Aluwihare-Duffy and Madelaine Molloy. In the other tie it finished 0-0 in normal tie between Fulbourn Bluebirds and Hungate Rovers Ladies, Fulbourn went on to win the game 4-0 in extra-time, Ebony Jade-Rule with all the goals.

Essex

   New leaders at the top of the Essex Women’s Premier Division, Eastern Avenue Ladies climbing above Chelmsford City Ladies as they beat them at home 4-1. Hullbridge Sports Ladies are moving in the right direction up to 5th spot following a 2nd successive win beating bottom side Lawford Ladies 6-1. Hutton Ladies Reserves are up into 3rd place running out 7-2 victors at home to Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies who are still without a win in the league. So too are Walden Ladies following defeat to Collier Row Tigers who pick up their 1st win of the season at the 4th attempt.

   In Division One, Alresford Colne Rangers Ladies stay top pick up 3 more points without kicking a ball awarded a home win against Chigwell Ladies. Harlow Town Ladies had last weekend off returned this Sunday picking up where they left off 3 wins out of 3 in 2nd spot following a 0-10 win away to Southend Town Ladies. Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves stay 3rd in the table as they beat 4th placed Wickford Town Ladies 2-3 away from home. Leigh Athletic Ladies were bottom of the pile going into the weekend 3 straight defeats, have leapt up into 5th place in the table at turned a -10 goal difference into a +17 one as they smash 28 goals past Waltham Forest Ladies making a debut in the league they’d not forget in a hurry the final score 28-1.

Beds & Herts

   No league action this weekend in Beds & Herts instead it was the 1st round of the Women’s League Cup. Was an all Division One clash between Bishops Stortford Ladies and Sherrardswood Ladies the visitors and last years beaten finalists winning the match 1-2, Manjinder Atwel giving Sherrardswood the lead in the 1st half before Inka Pearson hit back to make it 1-1 for Bishops Stortford going into the break, Laura Cousins scored on the 65th minute the goal putting Sherrardswood into the next round.

   Flitwick Ladies have had a terrible start to their league season were at home for fellow Division One side Toddington Rovers in the league cup progressed through to the next round with a 4-3 win. Division One Harvesters FC Ladies proved far too strong for Division Three side Welwyn Garden City Ladies beating them 11-0 with Shivani Bedi and Lauren Croucher both scoring hat-tricks. Letchworth Garden City Eagles beat Hitchin Town Ladies 2-1, Emily Jamieson and Tayla Murray with their goals, Emma Chaffey for Hitchin.

   Two in form teams with 100% win rcords faced off against each other with new side Icknield Ladies in Division Three hosting Division One leaders Hertford Town Ladies the higher league side running out 2-5 winners, Laveena Betts, Kerry Oldham, Dee Gilbert and Lisa Kline with a brace netting for Hertford, Icknield’s goals from Mandy Cain-Murnane and Cyeanna Eaton. Division One side Sandy Ladies were knocked out of the cup by Division Two leaders Houghton Athletic Ladies going down 1-2 at home Houghton’s goals from Ciara Craig. Kate Seldon for Sandy Ladies.

   Took penalties to separate AFC Kempston Rovers Ladies & Royston Twon Ladies reserves after it ended all square at 3-3 after extra time, AFC Kempston went on to win the shootout 3-2. Sharnbrook WFC are into the next round after they beat Evergreen Eagles 1-4 on the road, Victoria Corp with 2, Ruth Denrrick and Chantelle harris also scoring. Emily Jokiel with the goal for Evergreen Ladies. Watton Ladies comfortably beat Hatfield Town Ladies 9-0. Also a comfortable 0-8 victory for Crawley Green Ladies away to Panshanger Ladies, Yasmin Wacey with a hat-trick, Nina Service and Jessica McNamara scoring 2 each with the other goal scored by Senel Chapman. Hitchin Belles beat that score line on the road at Shefford Town & Campton Ladies beating them 0-10 Amy Giddins with 4 goals Shannon Page a hat-trick Lucy Slade, Emily Field and Lauren Curell also bagging goals. As this goes out haven’t any info on the ties between Evergreen Ladies & Kings Langley Ladies or Bedmond Ladies & Garston Ladies.
