The first Cup Final played in the East this Sunday the Hertfordshire Women’s County Cup at The County Ground, Letchworth. Women’s Football East was there too to watch Stevenage Ladies the current holders playing in their 4th successive county cup final looking to retain the trophy for the first time up against Hoddesdon Town Owls Ladies who had reached the final of the competition for the 1st time.
Two leagues between the sides Stevenage Ladies playing in the FAWPL South East Division One starting the game well and opened the scoring in the 16th minute Amy Makewell sending a low drive from outside the box into the bottom corner of the net. Found nearly the same spot again soon after to make it 2-0 before midfielder Chloe Gunn broke forwards to make it 3-0 then added another herself from a well taken free-kick 25 yards from goal.
Introduced late in the 1st half substitute Ashleigh Deacon scored a quickfire brace to extend Stevenage’s lead before Makewell when on to complete her hat-trick. Leah Littlechild receiving the ball from Nicole Emmings to score Stevenage’s 8th goal to successfully retain the County Cup for the 1st time.

Beds & Herts Women’s League Cup
The first of the semi-final of this years Beds & Herts Women’s League Cup took place this Sunday with St Albans Ladies leading Division one at home to fellow league side Sharnbrook WFC. A great start for the hosts going 2-0 up inside the opening 15 minutes with Michaela Johnson and Katie Grehan on target. Sharnbrook pulling a goal back, St Albans extending their lead on the half hour with a goal from Sophie Lawrence. Their lead at half-time 4-1 with Nicola Dark scoring late in the 1st half.
Sharnbrook getting it back to 4-2 early in the 2nd half. Eleanor Lovelock restoring St Albans 3 goal lead in the 57th minute. Into the final 10 minutes Ellen Slater running through to score St Albans 6th goal. Sharnbrook adding another goal at the death, time for St Albans to reply, Grehan with her 2nd of the game in stoppage time. 7-3 the final score as St Albans celebrate reaching this season’s League Cup Final the double on!
Houghton Athletic Ladies the current holders of the Beds & Herts Women’s League Cup meet Northwood Ladies at home this coming Sunday in the 2nd semi-final.
Beds & Herts Women’s Division One
Two matches in Beds & Herts Women’s Division One this Sunday. 3rd placed Sherrardswood Ladies close the gap to 2nd placed Northwood Ladies to just 2 points still with 2 games in hand as they secured all 3 points at home to Garston Ladies this Sunday. Goals in the 2nd half from Laurie Marris and Laura Cousins securing a 2-1 victory for the hosts.
Houghton Athletic Ladies move up from 6th to 4th in the Beds & Herts Women’s Division One table with a 2-1 home win against Flitwick Ladies on Sunday. Scoring all 3 of the goals in the match and own goal cancelled out with goals for Shakeela Hussain and Eireann O’Donoghue her 1st goal for Houghton Athletic.
Beds & Herts Women’s Division Two
One match played in Beds & Herts Women’s Division Two this Sunday. Leaders Garston Ladies 2nd XI were at home taking on Evergreen Eagles. Top scorer Lauren Berryman moved onto 21 goals for the season as she netted a brace in the match with Maxine Hotz also finding the back of the net in a 3-1 victory to move Garston into a 5 point lead at the top of the table. Beds & Herts Women’s Division Three
One match also in Beds & Herts Women’s Division Three with Evergreen Ladies at home to Woburn & Wavendon Lionesses Clarets. Both sides level on points on 13 in 5th and 4th respectfully going into the match. A brace from Natalie Maher enough to secure all 3 points for Evergreen Ladies in a 2-1 win that takes them 3 points clear into 4th spot in the table.
Two matches played in the Suffolk Women’s Division this Sunday and it’s a 4th successive draw for league leaders East Bergholt United Ladies as they were held away from home against the other unbeaten side in the league Walsham Le Willows Ladies. Millie Wilding having put East Bergholt United into a 1-0 half-time lead, Walsham Le Willows coming back to level the scores n the 2nd half with Katie Shorter getting the goal. In 5th spot Walsham Le Willows have 17 points 11 points behind the leaders but having played just 7 league games have plenty of points left to play for yet.
Bacton United Ladies 2nd in the Suffolk Women’s Division table close the gap to leaders East Bergholt United to just a single point as they continued their good run winning 4 of their last 5 league matches. Another big result too at home to Ipswich Athletic Youth Ladies on Sunday. Lois Balfour scoring 5 goals in the match. Francesca Rainbird also getting a hat-trick with Rebecca White claiming a brace in a 10-0 win. Both Bacton United and East Bergholt United have played 12 matches.
The Fulbourn Recreation Ground played host to the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup semi-finals this weekend. Newmarket Town Ladies were playing Cambridge University Women who had knocked out Premiership leaders Netherton United Ladies earlier in the competition. Newmarket Town started well taking an early lead in the match Abbi Griffin scoring in the 6th minute, further chances followed the lead doubled in the 26th minute Jordanne Sillitoe on target to make it 2-0, a 3rd goal quickly following Amanda Stacey heading home from a corner kick. A good first half for Newmarket another goal late in the half from Sillitoe putting them in complete control of the semi-final. Cambridge University pulled a goal back early in the 2nd half capitalising on a mistake at the back. 4-1 the score right up until the final minute of the match Chloe Slater making it 5-1 to see Newmarket into the League Cup Final.
The other League Cup semi-final was again an all Premiership tie with ICA Sports Ladies taking on St Ives Town Ladies who would have started as slight favourites 2nd in the league with just one defeat. ICA Sports Ladies however have picked up some good results themselves this season and have improved well as the season has gone on. A closer tie a single goal enough to win the game coming in the second half. Lorna Hart the goalscorer as ICA Sports Ladies beat St Ives Town 1-0 to reach the League Cup Final.
The League Cup Final between ICA Sports Ladies & Newmarket Town Ladies scheduled to be played on Wednesday 2nd May with a 7:30pm kick-off and Ely City FC.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership
3 games in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership this Sunday with another double header taking place to ease fixture congestion. The local derby between March Town United Ladies and Park Ladies. 6 points up for grabs March Town took full advantage beating their local rivals twice 3-1 in both matches the 6 point haul enough to move them up a place in the table into 5th spot. Charley Miller, Adele Munday and Shannon Shaw getting the goals in one of March Town’s 3-1 victories. Shaw on target again in the other match grabbing herself a brace with Ella Nutter also getting her name on the scoresheet.
Cambridge City Ladies Development were involved in a double header with Park 3 weeks ago picking up all 6 points themselves this Sunday they were hosting the Premiership leaders, Netherton United Ladies. A brace from midfielder Rachel Pearce and with a goal each for Molly White and Yasmin Crow seeing Cambridge City earn the 3 points as they ran out 4-0 winners. A 3rd defeat of the season now for Netherton United Ladies after a great start to the season, encouraging for 2nd and 3rd placed St Ives Town Ladies and Newmarket Town Ladies who both have games in hand came both overhaul Netherton United if they win those matches.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Junior Invitation Cup
One outstanding quarter final left to play in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Junior Invitation Cup an all Championship South tie with Isleham United Ladies hosting Cambridge Rangers on Sunday. And it’s the hosts that progress to the last 4 of the competition with a 4-1 victory. A brace for Vicky Beeton along with goals for Louise Harwood and Nicole Bailey setting up a semi-final against fellow Championship South side, Newmarket Town Ladies Reserves.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Division One Cup
Two matches from the Group stage of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Division Cup this Sunday both in Group C. Wisbech Town Ladies going top of the 4 team table with their 2nd win in the competition, at home playing Hungate Rovers Ladies, goals from Faye Kowalewsky and Annie Rooks seeing them win the match 2-1. A positive result in their final match against Orton Rangers Ladies with ensure Wisbech Town top the group and advance to the knockout stage of the competition.
Orton Rangers Ladies themselves were hosting Wisbech St Mary Ladies on Sunday in Group C the visitors having just 10 players available were held to a goalless score at half-time before going on to take control of the game in the 2nd half Amy Magnus getting herself a hat-trick, with a goal each for Ellena Bennington and Abi Roach-Smith in a 5-0 win.
Essex suffered the most with the weather this Sunday with the fixture list heavily hit by the recent wet weather seeing several pitches waterlogged with just 4 matches getting played.
More sad news from Essex too as Hutton Ladies Reserves withdraw from the Essex Women’s Premier Division. Have been struggling for numbers recently and unfortunately has been on the cards for a little while. Wishing everyone involved with the side all the best for the future. The withdrawal seeing so adjustment to the league table.
Two matches were played in the Premier Division with Chigwell Ladies now bottom of the table heavily beaten away to Chelmsford City Ladies on Sunday. Mia Brisley top scoring in the game getting a hat-trick with both Rosie Coe and Laura Kendle netting a brace each with five more players claiming a goal each, Lisa Overall, Niki Medici, Megan Bliss, Gaby Freedman and Shannon Hughes. 13-0 the final score a big win lifts Chelmsford City back up into 4th in the Premier Division table.
Eastern Avenue in 7th place in the Premier Division were also in action this Sunday at home taking on Harlow Town Ladies Reserves. Teliscia Linton scoring both goals for Eastern Avenue in a 2-0 victory.
Essex Women’s Division One
Two fixtures surviving in Essex Women’s Division One on Sunday. Brentwood Town Ladies Reserves were away to Walden Ladies. Clair Andrews and Jessica Clay both scoring for Walden, it was Brentwood Town who came away with the 3 points, Carla Rose getting on the scoresheet for two goals, with Clarista Wigley and Chloe Wilkinson both on target in a 4-2 win that moves Brentwood Town back above Dagenham & Redbridge Ladies up to 4th in the Division One table.
Billericay Town Ladies Reserves were at home hosting Benfleet Villa Ladies on Sunday, the visitors off the bottom of the Division One table having been awarded 6 points against Waltham Forest Ladies earlier in the season. Taking on Billericay this Sunday the sides went in level at the break drawing 1-1. Billericay going on to win the match in the 2nd half scoring twice to win 3-1. Lois Curson, Cassandra Piejko and Madeline Reeves with their goals.
A few waterlogged pitches around Norfolk this weekend affecting the women’s football fixtures with just 3 matches getting played some big games nevertheless with a semi final in the League Cup and a quarter final in the League Plate both featuring Sprowston who are on top of everything at the moment.
One league match in Norfolk Division One at the weekend with 3rd placed still uneaten in the league at home to 5th placed Gorleston FC Ladies looking to close the gap to 2 points on 2nd placed Bungay Town Ladies. A close first half seeing Thorpe United holding a 2-1 advantage the hosts when on to score 3 more goals in the 2nd half to win the game 3-2 with Shanice Sutton scoring a hat-trick that sees her move onto 27 goals for the season from just 11 appearances. Leonie Daulby also on the scoresheet scoring her 1st 2 goals for Thorpe United’s senior side. Sophie Gillett and Nicola Sheldrake with the goals in each half for Gorleston FC Ladies.
Norfolk Women’s League Cup
The first of the semi-finals of the League Cup were played this Sunday with Division Two leaders FC Sprowston Ladies travelling to Rivers Park to play Division One side Stalham Town Ladies. The visitors unbeaten in league and cup so far this season were up against higher league opponents for the 1st time this season. The Division Two side coming out on top clinching a narrow 2-1 win to book there place in the final. Rebecca Kirby and Nicole Read netting the winning goals. FC Sprowston Ladies will meet either Thorpe United Ladies or League Cup holders Bungay Town Ladies in the final their semi-final scheduled for this coming Sunday.
Norfolk Women’s League Plate
Also advancing to the semi-finals of the League Plate are Sprowston Ladies, currently leading Division One were drawn at home to Division Two side Beccles Town Ladies in the quarter finals. 2nd in Division Two, Beccles Town were trailing 2-0 at half-time before a strong 2nd half performance from Sprowston saw them score 4 more goals to win the tie 6-0 to advance. Rebecca Russell scoring a brace their goals to for Chelsea Pettifer, Georgia Cushion, Chelsea Brister and Victoria Leyer.
The other 3 quarter finals all scheduled for this Sunday too were all called off.
A few postponements affecting the ERWFL this Sunday as pitches remain water logged following the recent snow fall and a new band of rain coming in over Friday and Saturday. Two matches beat the weather in the ERWFL Premier Division with the top two Billericay Town Ladies and Cambridge City Ladies in action.
Billericay Town Ladies 7 points clear at the top of the table were at home on Sunday taking in local rivals Brentwood Town Ladies. A hat-trick from captain Lindsey Morgan (pictured) along with a strike from top scorer Paris Smith seeing the hosts to a 4-1 victory. Marie barker with the goal for Brentwood. With 4 league games left for Billericay they have a healthy lead at the top of the Premier Division table and know if they pick up maximum points from those matches that they cannot be caught.
Second placed Cambridge City Ladies are enjoying a strong season themselves, a narrow victory on Sunday moving them onto 26 points 4 clear of 3rd placed Acle United Ladies who have 3 games in hand. At Creasey Park taking on 7th placed AFC Dunstable Ladies. A hard fought win Stacey Fullicks netting the goal to give Cambridge City the lead, finished the game with 10 however with Sarah Mosley sent off.
ERWFL Cup
One outstanding quarter final tie to be played in the ERWFL Cup at last took place on Sunday between two sides that have had to endure a long period of inactivity. Acle United Ladies in action again for the 1st time in 5 weeks, for Royston Town Ladies the whole of February was a washout their last game on 28th January a few midweek matches coming up to help get them back on track.
On to the match both sides creating chances the deadlock was broken late in the 1st half with Royston getting their noses in from Hayley Graham putting the ball into the back of the goal to give the hosts a 1-0 half-time lead. Royston coming close to doubling their lead early in the 2nd half, Acle pushed them looking to get back on level terms the equaliser coming on the hour Laura Holden making the run to put Megan Todd’s cross home. Into the final 20 minutes and Acle went on to take the lead, Todd on target to make it 2-1. Royston battled to get back level the tie settled in the final minute as Acle’s Kate Pasque scored to make it 3-1 and send Acle through to the semi-finals where they will be away to Billericay Town Ladies.
ERWFL Plate
Like the ERWFL Cup one outstanding tie remained in the quarter finals of the Plate competition with Division One North side Cambridge United WFC Reserves hosting Division One South counterparts Hutton Ladies. This one looked to be a really close one on paper two sides evenly matched and the tie itself when all the way to extra time. Teonie Peyton putting Cambridge into the lead the hosts holding a 1-0 advantage at the break. Hutton coming back in the 2nd half to level the scores through a Laura Allen goal. The tie heading all the way into extra-time, Lucy Critchell scoring her first goal for the club to win the tie for the Essex side setting up a semi-final clash at home to another Cambridge shire side Histon Ladies.
ERWFL Division One North
One game played in ERWFL Division One North on Sunday top versus bottom with Silver End United Ladies travelling to Norfolk to play Wymondham Town Ladies. The hosts getting off to a fast start in recent games scoring in the opening minutes, Silver End working hard to keep their goal intact were awarded a free-kick past the half hour, Megan Jiggins on the set-piece sending the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0. A lead at the break Wymondham Town came back to level the scores 20 minutes into the 2nd half striker Hannah Waters brought down inside the box, top scorer Laura Nicholls stepping up to put the ball home for 1-1. Late drama the winning goal coming in the final minute of the match it was jubilation for Wymondham, heart break for Silver End with Nicholls hitting her 37th goal of the season for a 2-1 win taking Wymondham 4 points clear at the top of the table.
ERWFL Division One South
One game also in ERWFL Division One South at the weekend and a big one too with 2nd placed Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies hosting 3rd placed Harlow Town Ladies both side in contention for runners-up spot 3 points between the sides. Always going to be a competitive fixture Sophie Dowman getting on the scoresheet for Little Thurrock, Harlow Town getting goals through Lily Bruno and Tayla Handscomb to claim the 3 pints with a 2-1 win takes them into 2nd above Little Thurrock on goal difference.
Another weekend sadly affected by postponements albeit not as heavily as last weekend where only 4 games survived in the East. The FAWPL fairing better than most Charlton Athletic Ladies returning back to the top of the Southern Division after being over taken by Crystal Palace Ladies and C&K Basildon Ladies in recent weeks, the top two due to face each other this Sunday their top of the table clash falling foul of a water logged pitch.
Not so at Thamesmead Charlton took on Cardiff City Ladies. A good start for the hosts, goals from Kit Graham and Charlotte Gurr putting them into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes. Cardiff pulling it back to 2-1 after they were awarded a penalty Cori Williams stepping up to score. Gurr quickly restoring Charlton’s 2 goal lead on 32 minutes sending home a free-kick after Graham was fouled outside the area. A good first half for Charlton with Graham netting her 2nd of the match in the 41st minute to see the hosts leading 4-1 at half-time. Gurr moving onto 32 goals for the season as she completed her hat-trick 15 minutes into the 2nd half with Charlton going on to win 5-1 taking them back to the top.
That defeat for Cardiff coupled with a victory on the road away to bottom side Swindon Town Ladies saw Gillingham FC Ladies move up a place into 9th in the Southern Division table. Gillingham enjoying a good first 45 minutes against their opponents going into the half-time interval leading 3-0. Top scorers Kallie Balfour scoring twice on 20 and 31 minutes with the 3rd goal coming from captain, Jade Keogh. Balfour going on to complete her hat-trick scoring her 3rd and Gillingham’s 4th with 20 minutes left.
West Ham United Ladies excellent form in 2018 continues as they remain unbeaten in a run of 7 matches in league and cup. Following up from booking their spot in this season’s FAWPL Plate Final last weekend were at home in the league this Sunday taking on Chichester City Ladies. A goal from Amber Stobbs midway through the 1st half giving West Ham a narrow advantage that they held onto for much of the game the 3 points secured 2 minutes from time as Stobbs found the back of the net for her 2nd of the game. 2-0 the final score.
FAWPL Cup
Postponed from last weekend due to the bad weather, Lewes FC Women travelled up to the East Midlands on Sunday to take on Leicester City Women in the semi-final of the FAWPL Cup. A good start for Lewes as they took the lead against the side they knocked out of the FAWPL Plate at the same stage last season, Amy Taylor scoring to give the visitors the lead in the 10th minute. Leicester though were soon back on level terms Leigh Dugmore scoring the equaliser just 2 minutes later. 4 minutes later the hosts had turned it around to lead 2-1 Holly Morgan getting on the score sheet to make it 2-1 holding onto the advantage until half-time a bright start to the 2nd half put Leicester in control of the tie a 2 goals in 6 minutes from Sophia Domingo making it 4-1. Lewes could not find a response as Leicester held firm, Sarah Kempson getting a goal late in stoppage time too little too late as Lewes were defeated 4-2, Leicester City Women will play either Blackburn Rovers Ladies or Coventry United Ladies in the final that will now be played on the 25th of March after the tie was postponed for the 2nd time this Sunday.
FAWPL Plate
The finalists for this season’s FAWPL Plate Final were confirmed this Sunday as Luton Town Ladies match at home to Fylde Ladies postponed from last Sunday took place this Sunday with West Ham United Ladies already there. Luton Town Ladies in the league below Fylde Ladies taking the lead in the match a goal from Nicola Henman and despite Fylde creating opportunities then hosts looked like they might hold out for the victory until the final 12 minutes as Fylde turned the game completely on it’s head, Olivia Wild levelling the score before Alys Hinchcliffe netted what would prove to be the winning goal to send the Northern Division side into the Plate final
This season’s FAWPL Plate Final between West Ham United Ladies & Fylde Ladies will be played at Hednesford Town FC’s Keys Park Stadium on the 15th of April.
FAWPL South East Division One
A 16 point lead now at the top of FAWPL South East Division One for AFC Wimbledon Ladies after winning on the road away to Norwich City Ladies on Sunday. The sides meeting recently in the reverse fixture Wimbledon winning comfortably 8-2, Norwich City have improved since then and ran there opponents much closer this time around. The opening goal coming just past the half hour with Georgia Heasman netting the goal to give Wimbledon the lead. Caroline Bisson doubling their advantage in the closing stages of the 1st half. Norwich pulling a goal back 5 minutes into the 2nd half, a strike from Chelsea Garrett. Making for a tense end to the match Wimbledon have won a good percentage of their matches by a single goal advantage and held on once again to claim all 3 points.
The fight for for places below them is extremely hot with Ipswich Town Ladies, Leyton Orient WFC and Milton Keynes Dons all the hunt for runners-up spot. Milton Keynes with games in hand could yet chase Wimbledon down if they can gain maximum points, were away to 2nd placed Ipswich Town Ladies this Sunday in a tight and scrappy game the win coming from a wonder strike from Milton Keynes, Charly Clarke 3 minutes from time. Ipswich Town’s faint hop of catching the leaders looking over. 2 points between 2nd placed Ipswich and 4th placed Milton Keynes now.
Sandwiched in between them Leyton Orient WFC also failed to pick up any points on Sunday after they were defeated at home by Cambridge United WFC in a battling and determined performance. The visitors taking the lead in the 21st minute Faith Hewitt arriving in the box to put home Lauren Cartwright’s cross. 1-0 the lead at the break Cambridge United’s defence of their advantage was made all the harder as they were reduced to 10 players 10 minutes into the 2nd half Cartwright picking up two quick yellows to see her afternoon finish early. Cambridge United worked hard determination to keep their lead and win all 3 points.
At the other end of the South East Division One table Denham United Ladies were in danger of getting caught up in the battle at the bottom as Norwich City Ladies winning last weekend had closed the gap on them to 5 points. At home to Enfield Town Ladies this Sunday. Goals from Sophie Cheadle and Alissa Down putting the hosts into a 2-0 half-time lead. Enfield Town pulling it back to 2-1 10 minutes into the 2nd half with Regan Coleman getting the goal. An incident soon after seeing Enfield reduced to 10 with Nuala McKevitt shown a red card. Denham taking full advantage of their superior number on the field, as Kayleigh Currivan shot to make it 3-1. Down adding her 2nd of the match too to see Denham win 4-1 taking them 8 points clear of Norwich.

A contest that pits FAWPL against ERWFL, two leagues between the sides a stern test for Hoddesdon Town Owls Ladies playing in ERWFL Division One South up against a Stevenage Ladies side that is as strong as it has ever been.
Reece Buck the man in charge of Stevenage Ladies 1st team these days into his 2nd season in the job, was previously in charge of Hoddesdon Town Owls taking several of their experienced players with him to join Stevenage. Promoted to the FAWPL they retained their league status in their first season at that level aswell as winning the Hertfordshire Women’s County Cup for the ??? Bringing in several experienced players over the close season have gotten stronger currently in 7th place in the table well away from danger nudging towards a top half finish. Their 4th successive County Cup Final winning the competition in the 2014/15 & 2016/17 seasons Stevenage Ladies are looking to successfully defend the trophy for the 1st time.
Hoddesdon Town Owls Ladies reached the Hertfordshire Women’s County Cup Final for the 1st time this season, a great achievement for a side that has been through a difficult spell of late. Following the departure of Reece Buck and several players, Matthew Hudson took over the 1st team having to field an inexperienced side last season, a difficult campaign struggling for points things starting to improve towards the end of the season. Some of their experienced players returning to the club, Leah Dunnage, Kristina O’Connell and Rosy Wodhams were in the starting line-up for Stevenage in the County Cup Final last season Wodhams scoring two goals. Thing’s are improving as Hoddesdon look to reestablish themselves in the ERWFL.
Road to the Final
A big win away from home for Stevenage Ladies in the 1st Round of the competition as they began the defence of their trophy, taking in Beds & Herts Division One side Garston Ladies. Hat-tricks for both Leah Littlechild and Nicole Emmings in a 14-0 win. More of the same in the 2nd Round away to Bed & Herts Division Two side Evergreen Eagles 14-0 again the winning score, captain Donna McGuigan the pick of the goalscorers with 5 goals to her name.
Onto the quarter finals and another away trip this time to play Hemel Hempstead Town Ladies whom they beat to win the County Cup in the 2014/15 season. The result 3-0 then it was 3-0 again as Stevenage booked their place in the semi-finals with goals from McGuigan, Ellie Searle and Amy Makewell. A repeat of last seasons final in the semi-finals only Stevenage were at home for the 1st time in the competition as they took on Royston Town Ladies goals from Littlechild, Ashleigh Deacon and Chloe Gunn seeing them into the final courtesy of a 3-0 win.
Hoddesdon Town Owls Ladies started their campaign in the County Cup at home to Beds & Herts Division Three newcomers Welwyn Pegasus Azures. Kristina O’Connell scoring a hat-trick in a comfortable win for the higher league side. At home again in the 2nd Round a much sterner test followed as they faced fellow league side and unbeaten leaders, Stevenage Ladies Reserves. A great result for Hoddesdon as they battled to a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes taking the tie into extra-time going on to win 5-3. Hannah Kelly scoring a hat-rick with O’Connell also getting a brace.
Higher league opponents in the quarter finals of the competition Hoddesdon were draw at home again to take on Colney Heath Ladies. Another battling display seeing the sides drawing 2-2. Rosy Wodhams and Charley Handley scoring for Hoddesdon the tie going all the way to penalties. Goalkeeper Casey Herrick with some great saves as Hoddesdon went on to win the shoot-out 3-1 to reach the semi-finals. At home once again were the narrow favourites as they took on Beds & Herts Division One leaders, St Albans Ladies. Captain, Natasha Crick scoring twice with a goal each for O’Connell, Handley and Wodhams in a 5-2 victory to reach the County Cup Final for the very first time.
The County Ground, Letchworth once again the venue for today’s final. The Hertfordshire FA getting their county cup competition wrapped up in most cases a month before the surrounding counties. A nice wide playing surface a little sticky underfoot with the amount of moisture that has fallen recently. Overlooked by a large mainstand on one side the bar at one end the changing rooms beyond. At the other the Pukka Tukka refreshments trailer serving hot food and drinks. A good crowd building for the final. An overcast sky not too chilly little or no rai forecast during the match.

7 players that started last season’s County Cup Final are in the starting line-ups this afternoon 4 for Stevenage whilst, Leah Dunnage, Kristina O’Connell and Rosy Wodhams represent Hoddesdon this time around. It’s Stevenage to kick off the game 1st half wearing white shirts with pale red vertical stripes, red shorts and socks. Hoddesdon lined up opposite wearing navy and red vertical striped shirts, navy shorts and socks. Midfielder Chloe Gunn sends the ball long from kick-off out into the left channel for Ellie Searle to try and chase down can’t reach it an early goalkick for Casey Herrick for Hoddesdon.
A bright start from Stevenage trying to get players forwards Hoddesdon with a free-kick on half way as Paige Logie commits the foul for Stevenage the ball played high up towards the top of the area, Dominique Godbeer the middle of Stevenage’s three centre backs getting her head on the ball to clear. Sian Owens on the right side for Hoddesdon looks to make progress down the wing her pass inside to Rosy Wodhams she tries to pick her out with the return pass, Tanya Blacksley coming in tackling the ball out for a throw. Hoddesdon sending captain Natasha Crick away down into the right corner she squares the cross inside the box into Wodhams looking to strike it on the angle first time, Godbeer going to ground slides in to take the ball away from the striker.

Stevenage launch a rapid counter attack, Gunn bringing the ball on through the middle. Nicole Emmings peeling away into space on the right ahead of her Gunn picks her out with the pass her cross into the Hoddesdon area cut out by Faye Holder. Stevenage rebuild in attack coming forwards the pass out to Leah Littlechild on the right her cross whipped in dipping near post captain Donna McGuigan with the run stoops to get her head onto the ball turns her effort wide of the post inside the six yard box. A fast tempo from Stevenage at the start of the game coming forwards with purpose.

A free-kick for Stevenage wide right level with the top of the area, Gunn their set-piece specialist over the ball goes for goal her strike flashing wide across the face of goal. Searle with the ball on the left rolls it on for Emmings, getting inside the full back puts the ball into the path of Gunn her long range strike controlled by Herrick back on her goal line. As Stevenage come again the Hoddesdon defence gets a little ragged as they attempt to clear the ball falling pushed out wide McGuigan latching onto the ball stumbles slightly before regaining control and firing in a vicious strike towards goal her attempt smashing against the cross bar before running out wide to the left.
Hoddesdon have defended hard for the opening 15 minutes getting forwards pressing the ball high catch Stevenage in possession Hannah Kelly winning the ball brings it on, Cara Breckenridge getting back on her to win the ball back for Stevenage. The ball played into Gunn she picks out Searle going clear into space on the left her cross fired into the near post intercepted by the Hoddesdon defence.
GOAL! Stevenage open the scoring in the 16th minute have a free-kick inside their own half the ball played up towards the top of the area, Gunn under it the ball knocked into McGuigan she passes back to Gunn who lays the ball back for Amy Makewell to hit 1st time 25 yards out her low driven shot racing past the diving keeper into the bottom corner 1-0.
Stevenage looking strong press forwards Emmings with support from Littlechild on the right the ball turned into the area, Holder comes charging forwards to win the tackle for Hoddesdon. Herrick produces an excellent one handed save as Stevenage get in behind her defence Makewell moving to the left cutting the ball across the area for Emmings to strike from 8 yards out Herrick flinging a hand out parrying the ball away from her goal.
GOAL! On 20 minutes Stevenage’s lead is doubled, Makewell scoring again from outside the box a virtual copy of her first goal, Bodies forwards around the top of the area as the ball comes in Emmings getting the ball into the number 9 she sends another low drive into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
Little opportunity for Hoddesdon to get the ball into their attackers, O’Connell bringing the ball on through the middle has support from Kelly she holds the ball up well tries to pick out Wodhams on the left, Logie closing her down regaining possession for Stevenage. A free-kick wide right for Stevenage, Gunn to play the ball long into the area, Charley Handley with a commanding header getting the ball away for Hoddesdon. A throw on the left the ball played inside by Stevenage is inviting Breckenridge to have a strike 30 yards out she obliges, pulling her effort wide of the left post.

Littlechild breaking away on the right side for Stevenage her diagonal ball into the box parried behind for a corner by Herrick. Taken short up the line on the right Littlechild fires a shot narrowly over the Hoddesdon crossbar. Katie Kendle tackles well to stop Searle on the left as Gunn looks to play the winger in behind. Gunn confident in possession breaks forwards through the middle with the ball O’Connell seeing the threat goes with her sliding in to take the ball from her as she closes down on the area.

Stevenage are on top, pushing on the ball played inside to McGuigan in a central position outside the box a turn and hit as the ball comes across her the attempt taking a deflection wide for a corner. Dunnage winning the ball for Hoddesdon, attempting to break themselves Stevenage are organised at the back the 3 centre backs keeping tabs on any one threatening to get in behind.
GOAL! Half an hour played and Stevenage extend their lead with a well worked goal. Gunn beginning the move and finishing it as she carries the ball forwards laying the pass out to Searle getting in behind on the left Gunn continuing her run into the area as Searle sends the ball into her run, the midfield opening up her body to send the ball angling away from the keeper into the top corner 3-0.

Stevenage press their advantage look strong as Hoddesdon look to regroup. O’Connell back to clear the ball hasn’t had much chance to influence thing’s going forwards. Holder scrambling the ball away inside the box for Hoddesdon as the cross is flung into the area from the right, a foul spotted by the referee as Emmings latches onto the ball. A chance for Makewell for complete her hat-trick as the ball comes to her momentarily free in the area a second to composure herself looks to play the ball wide of the keeper right into the bottom corner of the net sees her shot run wide of the post. Hoddesdon make a change, Stephanie Iaonnou coming on in place of O’Connell.
Closing in on the final 5 minutes of the 1st half, Hoddesdon have their 1st shot of the match coming as Stevenage give away possession wide on the left Crick with the attempt from all of 30 yards out, on target, Shayla Burgess on loan from Watford Ladies having had little to do in the Stevenage goal, well place however back on her line is right behind the strike palming it down and safely claiming the ball.

GOAL! 41 minutes on the clock and Stevenage have another goal. Launching a counter attack the ball with Littlechild right side she squares the ball inside to Breckenridge coming on through the middle she is fouled in a dangerous position 25 yards from goal. Gunn to take it strikes the ball perfectly the ball lifted up towards goal flies over the keeper and into the back of the net 4-0.
Late into the 1st half and Stevenage ring the changes, making 3 substitutions, Emmings, Littlechild and Blacksley coming off for Danielle Maloney, Ashleigh Deacon and Rebecca Scola.

A dominant 1st half from Stevenage sees them with a comfortable 4-0 lead. A brace each from Makewell and Gunn. Have created numerous other chances. Hoddesdon have battle hard in defence have see little of the ball themselves with just the one attempt at goal.
More changes at half-time for Stevenage, Amy Josland and Kristi Burling replacing Breckenridge and McGuigan. Megan Davies on for Hoddesdon who get the 2nd half underway. A later 3pm kick-off sees the floodlights starting to come on as the natural light begins to fade. Wodhams with the ball at her feet 30 yards out is allowed to come on takes on the strike her effort on target Burgess back on her line right behind it once again comfortably gathering the low ball.

Deacon wide on the right side for Stevenage receiving the ball off a throw sends the pass inside towards Gunn positioned outside the box connecting with the ball sens it looping high into the air, heading towards goal looks to be heading over but dips very late a real problem for Herrick as she back peddles onto her goal line sees the ball land on top of the crossbar.
GOAL! 5 minutes into the 2nd half Stevenage go further into the lead, the Hoddesdon defence stretched pulled over to the left as Searle races on with the ball fires in a cross along the face of goal, both Josland and Deacon are racing in far post the latter getting the touch on the ball to turn it into the back of the net to make it 5-0.
GOAL! A 6th goal quickly follows a minute after scoring her 1st of the final Deacon with her 2nd with a great individual goal as she is set away on the right side after Stevenage break up a Hoddesdon attack. The right winger carrying the ball on into the area unopposed right of goal sends her shot wide across the keeper to score 6-0.

Hoddesdon make a change Makepeace coming off to be replaced by the returning O’Connell. Makewell with a strong run forwards, Holder getting in front of her to get the ball back to her keeper to clear. A free-kick won for Hoddesdon 30 yards out in a central position O’Connell over the ball goes for goal on target the shot lacks the pace to trouble Burgess.
Makewell close again to completing her hat-trick as Gunn playing deeper 2nd half sends the ball forwards towards Scola as Stevenage come forwards a clever touch from Scola sending the ball on through splitting the Hoddesdon defence Makewell racing in free behind, Herrick starts to come, Makewell puts the ball past her spinning away her head in her hands as she sees the ball strike the base of the post.
Dunnage defending well against Makewell on the right giving away the corner as the attacker looks to get around her. Iaonnou comes off for Hoddesdon, Shannon Daly coming on. A free-kick wide on the left inside the Hoddesdon half for Stevenage the ball headed on into the box, Deacon is free far side the flag up for offside however before she can strike the ball. Wodhams and Davies work the ball well together on the left for Hoddesdon, Davies looking to get in behind, Logie with good defensive work for Stevenage.

GOAL! Stevenage get a 7th goal and finally it’s a hat-trick for Makewell. Times her run in behind well as Gunn plays the ball up to her from the back, with the keeper coming to close her down as she carries the ball right the striker dinks the shot over her and into the goal beyond to make it 7-0.
Tiring Hoddesdon have let their heads drop a little 2nd half Handley winning the ball puts it forwards into midfield the ball deflected out to the right, Kelly wriggles clear to get in behind and fire a cross into the area, Godbeer coming towards her getting in the block. Searle with a burst of energy on the left for Stevenage fires a low cross into the area Josland can’t quite connect running on races onto Scola quickly no control on her attempt as the ball is deflected up over the crossbar.

A free-kick wide left for Stevenage Gunn to play in towards the far post the ball knocked down comes to Burling controls well hitting the shot on the turn putting the ball wide. Kendle is off for Hoddesdon as Robyn Jones comes on. Stevenage continue to dominate Makewell driving a 20 yard strike wide of the right post. Gunn getting onto the ball 30 yards out plays Josland in behind to inside the box, Herrick coming to close her down going to ground stops the shot getting past her. Emmings comes back on for Makewell for Stevenage, Handley coming off for Hoddesdon, Courtney Smart joining the game.
Stevenage make more changes, McGuigan and Littlechild returning to the field late on. Into the last 5 minutes. Wodhams with a cross/shot from a wide position on the right sending the ball behind the Stevenage goal.
GOAL! Another goal for Stevenage late in the match Littlechild on target to bring up their 8th. The attack on the left the ball rolled into Emmings outside the box good hold up play allowing Littlechild to get forwards running past her Emmings lays the pass into her run Littlechild striking the ball from the top of the area finds the bottom corner 8-0.
Godbeer comes off in the closing stages for Stevenage as they finish as strong as thy started the game. Scola wide on the right flashes a cross along the top of the six yard box, McGuigan in the middle attempting an ambitious overhead kick does’t connect with the ball.

The final whistle blows and Stevenage Ladies celebrate having successfully retained the Hertfordshire Women’s County Cup for the 1st time. A dominant performance an 8-0 win. Some well taken goals amongst those. On top right from the off and never let their opponents have any time on the ball. A fantastic effort from Hoddesdon to reach their 1st ever County Cup Final couldn’t get to grips with Stevenage on the day nevertheless should be proud of their achievement.

Women’s Football East – Player of the Match
She’s already got one of these but an easy choice once again for today’s Women’d Football East – Player of the Match. Dominating the midfield with great vision in passing and timing of her runs, especially in the 1st half along with scoring twice is Stevenage Ladies, Chloe Gunn.
Enjoyed my 1st final of the season, plenty more to follow. My thanks to the staff at Hertfordshire FA today for their assistance, everyone was very helpful always appreciated. Lastly my congratulations to Stevenage Ladies on successfully retaining the County Cup.
The Beast from the East blew in last week and played havoc with the fixtures across the country as snow fell and temperatures dropped. Another weekend where virtually all the scheduled games were called off. Many leagues making the call early with snow covering pitches and roads alike. A rapid thaw coming too late for many Sunday seeing 4 matches surviving the regions leagues and with another wet week looming yet more disruption could be on the horizon with many sides still having alot of matches to squeeze in before the end of the season. Of the four matches featured in this weeks shortened edition of The Round-Up there were a total of 31 goals scored in score high scoring victories.
FAWPL Southern Division
In the FAWPL Southern Division an excellent crowd of 409 came out to Bromley FC to watch Crystal Palace Ladies take on bottom side Swindon Town Ladies and move to the top of the table.
The hosts taking the lead inside the opening 10 minutes top scorer, Gemma Bryon sending the ball into the back of the net. Crystal Palace dominated the early exchanges but it was Swindon who found an equalising goal with their 1st meaningful attack Victoria Taylor on hand to turn the ball home to make it 1-1. Crystal Place retook the lead on the half hour Sarah Jones scoring from a corner. The half-time lead 3-1 with Crystal Palace awarded a penalty with 4 minutes left on the clock, Bryan stepping up to score her 2nd of the game.
The lead further extended 10 minutes into the 2nd half with Ellie Bailes making it 4-1. That was how the score remained right up until the final 10 minutes when Crystal Palace ran riot. Megan Chandler with a 25 yard strike making it 5-1 on 81 minutes. That was quickly followed up with an own goal before Bailes scored for the 2nd time in the match with 5 minutes left. Bryan moving onto 30 goals for the season completing her hat-trick in the 90th minute. The 8-1 win taking Crystal Palace from 3rd above Charlton Athletic Women and C&K Basildon Ladies to the top of the league.
FAWPL Plate
West Ham United Ladies confirmed their game would be on on Saturday as they travelled north to play Hull City Ladies in the semi-final of the FAWPL Plate. The Southern Division side up against the leaders of FAWPL North Division One. A close 1st half saw the sides drawing 0-0. West Ham taking the lead on the hour with Kelly Weathall striking to make it 1-0. The advantage doubled just 2 minutes later with 16-year-old Weathall netting for the 2nd time in the match. The lead made comfortable as the game closed in on the final 15 minutes with Andria Georgiou scoring from a wonder strike to make it 3-0 and see West Ham book their spot in their 2nd cup final of the season. West Ham’s opponents in the FAWPL Plate final will be either Luton Town Ladies or Flyde Ladies whose match was one of the many casualties to the weather up and down the country.
FAWPL South East Division One
Ipswich Town Ladies climbed up to 2nd in FAWPL South East Division One with a big win away to bottom side Haringey Borough Women on Sunday. Natasha Thomas, Ipswich Town Ladies leading goalscorer putting the visitors 1-0 in the 14th minute. Thomas turning provider for Ipswich Town’s 2nd goal coming in the 21st minute, Zoe Cossey getting on the scoresheet. 6 minutes later Cossey put the ball home for her 2nd of the match and Ipswich Town’s 3rd. Haringey suffering more woe as they were reduced to 10 players in the 38th minute striker Julia Carruthers shown her 2nd yellow. The red card compounded with Thomas scoring her 2nd of the game 2 minutes later to see Ipswich Town 4-0 up at half-time.
Didn’t take Thomas long to bring up her hat-trick as she scored to make it 5-0 to Ipswich Town in the 51st minute. Captain Amanda Crump scoring to make it 6-0 on the hour. Ipswich Town dominating the play, Thomas added a 4th goal to her tally to make it 7-0 on 65 minutes. Two quickfire goals from Miagh Downey and Sophie Welton followed before Thomas took her tally to 5 goals for the day in a 10-0 bringing up her 20th goal of the season.
ERWFL Division One South
The other game to survive on Sunday was from the ERWFL in Division One South, Harlow Town Ladies in 3rd looking to close the gap on 2nd placed Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies hosting Hoddesdon Town Owls Ladies. A comfortable win for the hosts as they ran out 8-1 winners to claim all 3 points. Chloe Bassett, Tayla Handscomb and Abbey Dell all getting a brace in the game with Nicole Learner and Hannah Clifford also on target with a goal each. Not the result Hoddesdon Town Owls were looking for as they prepare for their 1st ever appearance in the Hertfordshire Women’s County Cup Final this coming Sunday.
