ERWFL Premier Division
All change at the top of the ERWFL Premier Division after this Sunday’s results with leaders Brentwood Town Ladies unbeaten run coming to an end, and Cambridge City Ladies and Acle United Women 2nd and 3rd going into the weekend seeing their games called off dropping down the table as those below picked up the 3 points. Wet conditions everywhere.
Brentwood Town Ladies had gone on a run of 5 straight league wins that had propelled them to the top of the Premier Division. Were away to one of those sides they had beaten in that run this Sunday, Bedford Ladies. A 2-1 win for Brentwood then much higher scoreline this time around as the sides found the back of the net for 8 goals. Another brace for Brentwood’s top scorer, Georgia Holdaway along with a goal for Leah Cowan seeing the visitors score 3, Bedford coming out on top hitting 5 in reply to end the Essex sides winning streak. Eden Kibron netting twice along with goals for Michelle Byrne, Catalina Costas and Sophie Mulvihill winning for Bedford 5-3.
7 games unbeaten now for Peterborough Northern Star Ladies, including 4 straight league wins sees them climb up into 2nd position in the Premier Division table. Were at home on Sunday taking on Harlow Town Ladies. Katie Steward hitting a double to move her onto 4 goals for the season, Cassie Steward also scoring has 6 to her name. Emma Pollard currently Northern Star’s top scorer also getting on the scoresheet has 8. A 4-0 win for Peterborough Northern Star.
Royston Town Ladies climb up to 3rd in the Premier Division as they continued their 100% winning start to the season with a 4th success on the road away to Suffolk side, AFC Sudbury Ladies on Sunday. Teonie Peyton scoring a double in her 1st start for Royston since joining from Cambridge United Women. Danielle Carty, Georgia Gannaway and Charlotte South all getting a goal to for Royston in a 5-0 victory.
Wymondham Town Ladies also winning at home at the weekend to close the gap on the sides in the top half of the table their 3rd of the season coming against Colney Heath Ladies who saw manager Sam Wardle step down earlier in the week. Laura Nicholls opening the scoring for Wymondham in the 16th minute scoring from the penalty spot after Hannah Waters was fouled in the box. Waters herself making it 2-0 on the half hour. Mollie O’Callaghan adding a 3rd goal late in the 1st half there was still time for another goal Wymondham 4-0 up at the break with Nicholls getting her 2nd of the game. Wymondham going further ahead on the hour Nicholls completing her hat-trick also hit a 4th goal to make it 6-0 moving her onto 15 goals already this season from 7 appearances. The final score 7-0 to Wymondham with O’Callaghan scoring her 2nd of the game in the 83rd minute.
ERWFL Division One
A clash between the top two in ERWFL Division One on Sunday with 2nd placed King’s Lynn Town Ladies hosting leaders Stevenage Ladies Reserves looking to close the 6 point gap. A recent meeting in the League Cup ending 5-4 to Stevenage, Sunday was another high scoring game but sadly for King’s Lynn Tow not the way they would have wanted as Stevenage went on to record a comfortable win to earn their 7th 3 point haul of the season. Erin Pope netting a hat-trick for Stevenage, their were goals to for Holly Darling, Hannah Marshall and Emily Schofield in a 6-1 win. Jodie Hopkins-Duckhouse scoring for King’s Lynn Town who slip to 5th in the Division One table.
Plenty of sides battling for 2nd spot right now all hoping to chase down Stevenage who are now 7 points clear at the top. Moving back into 2nd spot winning away from home on Sunday are St Ives Town Ladies, the newly promoted team away to Ipswich Wanderers Ladies. Goals from Tierney Coulson, Georgia and Katie Stancombe and Connie Liddiard securing a 4-1 win for St Ives Town. Tanya McKew scoring for Ipswich Wanderers.
A run of 6 league games unbeaten sees Newmarket Town Ladies keep pace with St Ives Town in 3rd position both sides joining from the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership starting life at the higher level well, Newmarket finding their feet were hosting Essex side Bowers & Pitsea Ladies this Sunday. A goal from Brooke Wickens seeing Newmarket leading the game 1-0 at half-time scored in the 17th minute. Bowers & Pitsea coming back to level the scores with the game closing in on the hour Jennifer Lyttle scoring from a 40 yard free-kick. Into the final 15 minutes and Newmarket were awarded a penalty kick. Laura Bailey scoring from the spot for the 2nd successive game to put Newmarket back into the lead. Lauren Deller put through on goal late in the game to score and seal the 3-1 win for Newmarket.
Lawford Ladies complete a trio of newly promoted sides in the top 4 of Division One. Unbeaten since the opening day of the season won their 4th league match of the season at home on Sunday playing Hertford Town Ladies. Goals for captain Daisy Canny, Tyler Christou, Sofia Serghiou and Erin Hornby seeing the Essex side win the game 4-0 to move into 4th.
A gritty performance away from home saw Hatfield Peverel Ladies the other newly promoted side to the ERWFL pick up their 2nd league point of the season as they drew 0-0 with fellow Essex side Hutton Ladies on Sunday.
Hoddesdon Town Ladies won at the weekend to climb back up into the top half of the Division One table, were at home playing bottom side Bishops Stortford Ladies on Sunday. Natasha Crick putting Hoddesdon into the lead scoring with 5 minutes of the 1st half left to play. Rosy Woodhams extending Hoddesdon’s lead 10 minutes into the 2nd half. The 3 points secured in the 64th minute with Grace Leslie scoring her 1st goal for Hoddesdon since joining from Royston Town.
