The Tuesday Round-Up – Edition Seven
October’s nearly done the clocks went back this weekend and The Tuesday Round-Up has reached Edition Seven. Plenty more Tuesday’s to come though before we’ll now who the leagues across the East of England end up. This weekend it was on the large part back to league action for the sides across the East with 1st rounds of County and League Cup dominating over the past fortnight. A lot to bring you including one side who won 40-0 this Sunday… yes you did read that right 40-0 keep reading to find out who got the goals, might not want to continue if you happen to be their opponents. Let’s crack on.
FAWPL Southern Division
Well at the start of every round-up of the action in the FAWPL Southern Division in the previous six editions of The Tuesday Round-Up, Brighton & Hove Albion WFC have been leading the way, building upon an unbeaten start to the season that extended to 12 games. With today’s fixture looking like it should yield 3 more points as they travelled to bottom side Queens Park Rangers Ladies. After a goalless 1st half Brighton took the lead early in the 2nd half through Amy Taylor who had come onto the pitch at the start of the 2nd half scoring on 50 minutes. The lead wasn’t to last long as barely 5 minutes later Queens Park Rangers were awarded a penalty which was dispatched by Danielle Puddefoot, having pulled the scores level Joanne Wilson scored again for Queens Park Rangers 4 minutes later to give the home side a 2-1 advantage they held on to claim their 1st win of the season building on last weekends point to lift themselves off the bottom of the table.
Finding themselves taking Queens Park Rangers Ladies place at the bottom of the table are Plymouth Argyle Ladies as they were beaten 3-1 at home to Cardiff City Ladies who close the gap in 2nd place behind Brighton to just a single point. Hope Suomenin scoring twice with Kerry Bartlett getting Cardiff City’s other goal. Danielle Sail scored for Plymouth on the 82nd minute. In 3rd spot a point behind Cardiff City are Charlton Athletic Women who scored big on their travels this Sunday away to Forest Green Rovers Ladies winning the match 6-0 with Forest Green Rovers unfortunately putting the ball into their own net twice, with Jenny Newman getting 1 goal and Gemma Sheppard adding 2 more to give them a 5-0 lead at half time, Stefanie Simmons bagging the 6th goal early into the 2nd half.
Two sides that are also looking to close in on the top three are Coventry United Ladies and Portsmouth Ladies with the former hosting the latter this Sunday the points shared as the match ended in a 1-1 draw, Gemma Hillier giving the visitors a 1st half lead, before Amy Hughes pulled the scores level 8 minutes into the 2nd 45. In the final match in the FAWPL Southern Division this Sunday it was a 2nd league win for West Ham United Ladies as they beat Lewes Ladies a 2nd half strike from Paige Anderson-James enough to secure all 3 points in a 1-0 win.
FAWPL South East Division One
Crystal Palace Ladies continue their unbeaten start to the season, having drops points for the 1st time this season last weekend away to Cambridge United WFC in a 1-1 draw, they were back on home turf this Sunday hosting Ipswich Town Ladies. Got back to winning ways Gemma Bryan x2, Alexandra Elson, Sarah Jones and Abigail Igbavboa scoring in a 5-1 win, Roxanne Small with the goal for Ipswich Town. That point secured against the league leaders last weekend was a massive confidence boost for Cambridge United WFC who finally got their 1st 3 points of the season following 4 draws and 4 defeats to lift themselves all the way up from 2nd bottom in the table to 8th spot. a single goal scored by captain Laura Bright the difference at home as they beat Enfield Town Ladies 1-0.
Luton Town Ladies had closed the gap to Crystal Palace Ladies at the top to just 2 points the gap remains the same as they win again at the weekend on their travels up to Norfolk to face Norwich City Ladies winning the match 4-2 with a hat-trick scored by Natasha Fensome and Victoria Rutherford back from an arm injury scoring the 4th goal. Luton Town scored in their own net with Kate Parsons scoring for Norwich City. In 3rd spot but with games in had on the two sides above them are Gillingham FC Ladies, scored 10 goals in midweek in the 1st round of the Ryman Women’s Cup, scored 9 in the league this Sunday on the road again against bottom side Bedford Ladies. Kallie Balfour opening the scoring after a minute, Paige Baker-Carroll having scored 7 in midweek added 2 more goals this time around to give Gillingham a 3-1 half time lead. Balfour added a 2nd half hat-trick to score 4 times with Ashleigh Loosemore bagging herself a goal before Baker-Carroll added her 3rd to get herself another hat-trick Emma Tune adding the 9th goal in injury time.
Battle of the promoted sides as Lowestoft Town Ladies travelled south to face Old Actonians Ladies. Were to leave with nothing as Old Actonians ran out 3-0 winners, the goals from, Jessica Byrne, Sinead Friel and Carla Williams. In the final match in FAWPL South East Division One the spoils were shared between Denham United Ladies and Milton Keynes Dons Ladies the match ending 1-1. Sophie Watson had opened the scoring for Milton Keynes Dons on the 25th minute mark, Denham United hit back before the break Alissa Down capitalising on an error from the visitors to steal in on the ball and lob the keeper to score.
Eastern Regional Leagues
In the ERWFL Premier Division, Billericay Town Ladies stay top of the league following a comfortable 6-0 win at home against newly promoted side Gt Wakering Rovers Ladies. Vicky Kinsman scoring a hat-trick, with Nicole Farmer, Paris Smith and Lucy Wyatt also finding the back of the net. Hot on their heels though are Stevenage Ladies still with a 100% winning start to the season 6 wins out of six a point behind Billericay Town with a game in hand. Were on the road playing Brentwood Town Ladies won the match 2-0.
Climbing into 3rd spot in the table some 9 points behind Stevenage but with a couple of games in hand are Haringey Borough Women now with 3 wins in a row in the league the latest this Sunday a 2-0 home victory over AFC Sudbury Ladies, Anele Komani and Klesha Darroux with the goals. Having been in a poor run of form and sliding down the table after a promising start Colchester Town Ladies finally got back to winning ways at the weekend picking up their 2nd win of the season to move back up into 4th spot playing bottom side AFC Dunstable Ladies, Megan Bamber and Alexandra Brewis-Shephard making it 2-0 before Kemina Webber pulled it back to 2-1 at half-time. Colchester Town went on to win the match 3-1 with Kerry Stimson recently of West Ham United Ladies scoring the goal. In the other match in the ERWFL Premier Division, Gt Shelford drew 1-1 with Acle United Ladies.
In the ERWFL Division One East their was the one league match this Sunday, saw a 1st point secured in the league for newly promoted side, Long Melford Ladies the current champions of Suffolk following a 1-1 away to Ipswich Wanderers Ladies. Sherral Williamson with the goal for Long Melford. Danielle Lynch the goalscorer for Ipswich Wanderers.
All change at the top of ERWFL Division One West, new leaders this Sunday, Hutton Ladies following a 4-2 over former leaders Royston Town Ladies to end their 100% start to the season. Katie Lowen and a hat-trick from Laura Allen with the Hutton goals. Amy Cooper and Georgia Gannaway scoring for Royston Town. Defeat too for another of the early leaders as Stevenage Ladies Reserves were edged out at home 4-3 to visitors Sawbridgeworth Town WFC. Goals from Sherrie Evans and 2 from Sarah Payne for Stevenage weren’t enough as Sawbridgeworth’s Dempsey Favell with 2, Shannon Hardinges and Claire Poulton scored the goals to secure the points.
Elsewhere their was League Cup action amongst the ERWFL Division One sides in the 2nd Round. West Billericay progress in the competition putting their poor league form behind them beating Colney Heath Ladies 3-0 at home Katy Judd giving them a 3rd minute lead before Aimee Pooley added 2 more goals in either half. Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies were on the road in Suffolk taking on Bury Town Ladies came away 4-3 winners in extra-time after the game ended 3-3 in normal time. Bury Town’s 3 goals coming from Catherine Upton and a brace from Norma Locker, Little Thurrock Dynamos goals from Georgia Fraser and a hat-trick from Abbie Simmonds.
Writtle Ladies progress to the next round of the league cup beating Hoddesdon Owls Ladies 3-1 at home with goals by Courtnet Clarke, Georgina Tricker and Sophie Vale. Silver End United Ladies also advance to the next round following a 4-1 away win against Offley & Stopsley Ladies. Their goals from Lynsey Bowman Alexandra Bailess and 2 from Rebecca Hollocks, Offley & Stopsley’s goal scored by Emma Collins.
Norfolk
Far from a full programme of league fixtures in Norfolk across the three divisions. There are new leaders in Division One however with Wymondham Town Ladies taking on one of the other sides expected to be competing for the title Thorpe United Ladies. At home they maintain a 100% winning record extending to 5 league games to go top winning 3-1. Sally Hammerton firing in 2 goals the other from Leah Newcombe. Sharnie Boast getting the goal for Thorpe United who drop to 4th following the defeat as Brandon Town Ladies move up a place like Wymondham Town also maintaining a 100% winning start to the league played 4 games the latest a 3-0 home win against Lynn Ladies despite only fielding 10 players captain Tiffany Forshaw scoring 2 of the goals.
In the other match being played in Division One, Bungay Town Ladies finally got a win on the board after the 5th attempt following a terrible start to the season were at home to Long Stratton Ladies were leading 4-1 when the match was abandoned following a head injury to Long Stratton’s Beth Stratton. Michelle Stanborough with 2, Nicola Hazell and Emily Leach with Bungay’s goals, Katie Knights scoring her 1st goal for Long Stratton.
Just the one match in Division Two just like last week and once again Bohemian’s Ladies took full advantage, following their 1st win of the season last Sunday made it 2 in a row to climb above Sprowston Ladies into 4th spot with a 5-1 win over bottom placed Morley Ladies.
In Division Three leaders Harleston Town Ladies pulled further clear of Gorleston FC Ladies who weren’t in action for the 2nd weekend running to make it 5 wins out of 5 was a convincing scoreline too, even if they did concede 4 goals hit 10 in reply away to bottom side Dereham Town Ladies, Lacey Andrews getting 8 goals to her name. Toftwood Ladies recorded their 2nd league win in a row to climb into 3rd place in the table winning 5-3 at home to Sprowston Ladies Reserves, Thea Wilson with a brace, Katie Hart and Laura Harvey amongst the goal scorers for the home side. In the last match in the division a 1st ever league win for Red Rose United taking them off the bottom of the table big winners on the coast beating Cromer Town Ladies on their travels 9-2.
Suffolk
With new league leaders Copleston Ladies not in action this weekend both East Bergholt United and Brantham Athletic Ladies took full advantage to win and climb above them. Brantham Athletic going top on goal difference recording a 2-0 victory over Leiston St Margarets Ladies, Kirsten Hutchings with both the goals. East Bergholt United are 2nd following a big 8-0 home victory over bottom side Ipswich Phoenix, Jessica Oxlade with 4 of the goals the others shared by Holly Prior, Laura Calver, Georgina Longden and Lucy Fowler. In the other match Bacton United Ladies were narrow 2-1 winners at home to Witnesham Wasps Ladies all the goals coming in the 1st half with Maria and Samantha Walker getting goals for Bacton United, Rebecca Prime with the Witnesham goal.
Cambridgeshire
It was the Cambridgeshire leagues where I was on my travels this Sunday covering a match in the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup for my Supporting Women’s Football Blog a 2nd round tie with Netherton Ladies taking on Cambridge City Ladies. Both Premiership sides having started the season well looked a juicy tie to go watch. A full strength Cambridge City side proved too strong for an injury and depleted Netherton Ladies side who lost 2-0 with a goal scored in both halves, by Carla Penny and captain Grace Stanley, to read all of the match action click on the link below to take you to the blog.
Netherton United Ladies v Cambridge City Ladies
Cambridge City Ladies opponents in the quarter finals of the league cup were also playing their 2nd round tie this weekend and they will be Bar Hill Women after they beat Swineshead Institute Ladies 6-0 at home Anna Jephson helping herself to 4 goals, the others from Nadine Wejkins and Gemma Clare.
With Cambridge City Ladies and Bar Hill Women in league cup action ICA Sports Ladies capitalised to climb into 2nd place in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership table with a 3-2 home win against Huntingdon Town Ladies, two of their goals from Lorna Hart, Huntingdon Town’s 2 goals scored by Laura Spaxman and Hollie Anne Dare. Newmarket Town Ladies finally have a point on the board securing a 0-0 draw at home against Cambridge University Women who have had a contrasting opening 3 games to the league season conceding 11 in their 1st winning 9-2 2nd time around. A good point earned for Newmarket Town Ladies.
In the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North there are new leaders following this Sunday’s results as Wisbech Town Ladies go top following a 7-0 win on the road away to bottom side Tydd St Marys Ladies still seeking their 1st points of the season. Kyra Clarke getting a hat-trick, Sophie Gutteridge, Faye Kowalewsky and Annie Rooks with the goals plus an og. Bourne Ladies came out on top of a 7 goal thriller at home to Wisbech St Marys Ladies winning 4-3, Helen Baker, Kimberley Fairweather, Claire Lawrenson and Toni McHamilton netting for Bourne Ladies. Wisbech St Marys goal scorers were, Catherine Ray, Toni Lewis and Jade Kelly.
March Town United Ladies move up into 3rd in the Championship North table following a 3-2 home win against 2nd bottom Hungate Rovers Ladies. 2 goals from Shannon Kelly and 1 from Adele Munday securing the 3 points, 2 goals from Jade Chamberlian not enough for Hungate Rovers Ladies to win their 1st points of the season. Stamford Ladies have had to wait a while to secure their 2nd win of the season were at home at the weekend like March Town United won it 3-2 against Downham Town Ladies.
In the Championship South, Milton Ladies remain top of the table, but now only on goal difference as they lost for the 1st time this season in an epic 11 goal match against 2nd placed Comberton Ladies who welcomed the leaders to their own patch emerged with the 3 points to draw level with a 6-5 win, just 2 names on the score-sheet too, Kerri Hilton-Taylor’s 6 goals for Comberton edging out the 5 scored by Kirsty Lemmon-Sparkes for Milton Ladies.
Park Ladies also join the leading pair on 9 points at the top of the table after they beat Cambridge Rangers in the 11am kick off 8-1 to bag an away win Amy Newell with 4 goals, with 2 for Kirstie Smith and 1 each for Casey Ward and Brooke Anderson. Tierney Poore, Georgia Rebane and Hannah Seymour-Shive scored the goals for St Ives Town Ladies as they beat Riverside Rovers Reserves 3-0. Following 3 straight defeats in the league Isleham United Ladies got back to winning ways this Sunday at home beating Little Paxton Ladies 6-2 to climb up to 5th in the league.
Essex
Premier Division leaders Chelmsford City Ladies weren’t in action this Sunday, the chasing pack were but none could secure 3 points to close the gap at the top. It was a meeting between 2nd and 3rd as Hullbridge Sports Ladies travelled to Runwell Hospital Ladies took a 2-1 lead into half-time but Runwell Hospital Ladies scored another goal in the 2nd half to make the final score 2-2. 4th placed Eastern Avenue were hosting bottom side Lawford Ladies who were without league point after 4 matches played, finally got one on the board after the match finished in a high scoring 4-4 draw.
Collier Row Tigers were also high scorers at the weekend move into 5th spot with the chasing pack behind Chelmsford on 10 points after they beat Hutton Ladies Reserves 13-4 away from home. Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies secured their 1st league win of the season by a high scoreline beating Walden Ladies at home by 6 goals to 3.
Well you’ve waited for it long enough wanted to know where this 40-0 win was hiding, well it’s in Essex Women’s Division One as 2nd placed Wickford Town Ladies increase their goal difference to +52 from +12 racking up 40 goals at home to new side Waltham Forest Ladies who have had a torrid start to life as a new women’s side 3 heavy defeats which isn’t great to see let’s hope they can turn things around. Wickford Town are 3 points behind leaders Harlow Town Ladies who maintain a 100% winning start to the season 6 in a row although this one was by the narrowest scoreline yet winning 5-2 away to Chigwell Ladies. Harlow Town and Wickford Town meet in the league next Sunday and if that ends goalless I’ll eat my hat.
Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves are level on points with Wickford Town in 3rd after they won 2-1 against Southend Town Ladies. Also level on points with 2nd and 3rd are 4th placed Alresford Colne Rangers who came out on top winning 7-5 at home to Valley Green Ladies. In the final match in Division One Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies Reserves got their 2nd league win of the season at home beating Hullbridge Sports Ladies Reserves 5-1.
Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire
The lead at the top of Beds & Herts Women’s Division One changes hands again this Sunday with Bishops Stortford Ladies at the summit couldn’t get the 3 points though move a point clear of previous leaders Harvesters FC who weren’t playing following a 2-2 away to Sandy Ladies who get their 1st point on the board after 4 matches played their goals from Kayleigh Bennett and Loren Ellard. Bishops Stortford’s goals scored by Elle Georgiou and Jessica Mace. Hertford Town Ladies are 2nd but like Bishops Stortford picked up a single point instead of 3 their match away to Garston Ladies ending goalless. Letchworth Garden City Eagles are up into 4th spot following their 2nd league win on the bounce a single goal away to bottom side Toddington Rovers Ladies taking the 3 points.
In Division Two, Houghton Athletic Ladies move back to the top of the table after having last weekend off and losing top spot to Sharnbrook WFC, their rivals weren’t in action this weekend. Away to Garston Ladies FC 96 needed to score 6 goals to secure the win as the hoe side netted 5 in another 11 goal encounter in the East this weekend. Emma Hawkes with 5 of the Houghton strikes with Ciara Craig netting the other goal. Woburn Lionesses have turned their season around following 2 defeats at the start of the season have now won 3 in a row to move into 3rd place in the league table, Catriona Roxburgh, Emily Saunders and Dominique Hull scoring the Woburn goals in a 3-2 away win over AFC Kempston Rovers Ladies, their 2 goals scored by Abygail Dolan and Shannon Pearson from the penalty spot. It finished 2-2 in the other match in Division Two between Hitchin Town Ladies and Watton Ladies.
In Division Three Hitchin Belles go 3 points clear of 2nd placed Crawley Green Ladies who weren’t playing with a 8-1 victory on the road at Bedwell Rangers FC, Emily Field scoring a hat-trick, 2 more for Charis Wakefield with a goal each for Amy Giddins, Shannon Page and Emma Wells, Bedwell Rangers scorer, Katie Moore. Evergreen Ladies have had a prolonged start to the season fixtures spread out climb into 3rd spot in the table closing in on the leading pair with 9 points from 3 games played this Sunday a 2-0 home win against Kings Langley Ladies, Samantha Jakson and Vicky Slaughter scoring either side of the half time break.
Bedmond Ladies had started the season with 2 defeats have had to wait a whole month to play their 3rd league game, worth the wait as they recorded their 1st win of the season picking up the 3 points following a 6-2 home win over Welwyn Garden City Ladies, Molly Peters bagging herself a hat-trick with 2 more scored by Sarah Gunn, Emma Treanor also getting a goal. Claire Cranfield with both the Welwyn Garden City goals. Last but not least Panshanger Ladies are up into 5th in the table following their 2nd league win of the season a 4-0 home win against bottom side Shefford Town & Campton Ladies, an og with Kerry Twigg, Ellie Burke and April Sprang all scoring to nail the 3 points.
Another action filled Edition of The Tuesday Round-Up a per usual tried to mention as many goal scorers as I could, Essex FA like to keep them secret so if you want to spill the beans and get a mention once in a while (you have to actually score a goal mind) then let me know.
