ERWFL – Sunday 4th September
A busy fixture list this weekend for the ERWFL in both the Premier Division and Division One below with 2 of the sides with a 100% start the the season going head to head and at last everyone has started their season.
ERWFL Premier Division
We’ll start with that top of the table clash in the ERWFL Premier Division with Acle United Ladies making the long journey south west to play Bedford Ladies. Both having won their opening 2 matches, Bedford were leading the table having scored 7 goals in both their opening league fixtures. Those were against the 2 sides currently propping up the table their opponents from Norfolk would be tougher to crack. The visitors took an early lead in the game, Kate Pasque on target for Acle in the 6th minute. Bedford were to get back on level terms, Natasha Fensome back at the club after a season with Luton Ladies striking the ball home from distance. Bedford then went on to take the lead late in the 1st half, Fensome scoring from the penalty spot having been fouled inside the box. Acle had chances to get themselves back into the match however it was Bedford who were to find the back of the net this time, in the 85th minute Fensome the provider this time to set up Kaiya Glynn to win the game 3-1 make it 3 wins out of 3 to start the season 1 more league win than they managed last season.
Joining leaders, Bedford Ladies with 9 points at the top of the Premier Division table are Haringey Borough Women. Were in Essex at the weekend away to Colchester Town Ladies. Naomi Graham giving the visitors the lead midweek through the 1st half. A complete turn around in the final 5 minutes before half-time however as Colchester equalised through Miagh Downey with 41 minutes played then Chloe Gunn gave them the lead on the stroke of half-time. Haringey pulled the scores back to 2-2 with 21 minutes of the 2nd half played, Anais Reynolds scoring the goal. The win to maintain the 100% start coming late on in the 85th minute as Anele Komani (oictured above) netted to seal the 3 points.
Billericay Town Ladies are up to 4th in the Premier Division table having recovered from an opening day defeat to Haringey to beat Histon Ladies last weekend on the road, followed that with a home victory this Sunday taking on newly promoted, Royston Town Ladies. Marie Barker and Frances Murphy scoring their 1st goals of the season, along with new signing Rosi Webb now recovered from a long term injury opening her account for Billericay with Paris Smith scoring her 3rd goal of the season winning the game 4-1. Samantha Tinsley scoring for Royston Town Ladies who have found it tough going early on in the Premier Division slip to bottom with 3 successive defeats.
Brentwood got their 1st league win of the season at the weekend after a defeat and draw to move up to 5th in the league. A home game against Histon Ladies. Bobbi Cubberley scoring for the 2nd successive match, whilst Ashley Dednam added another with Zoe Hinton netting a brace both players opening their accounts for the season in a 4-0 win.
AFC Sudbury were at home for the 2nd successive Sunday looking to bounce back from last weekends home defeat to Acle United Ladies. The visitors to the Wardale Williams Stadium, AFC Dunstable Ladies who won 2-1 at home last Sunday. It was Dunstable who held the advantage at half-time Samaira Khan scoring from a header. Sudbury were back on level terms 10 minutes into the 2nd half a hand ball spotted in the box, Stacey Teager scoring from the resulting penalty. Went on to take the lead Sophie Jeffery blasting in a scorcher from outside the box. Their was a large amount of stoppage time at the end of the match some 17 minutes according to the summary of the game provided by Sudbury. Either way Dunstable equalised with virtually the last kick of the game Danielle Carty firing home from 25 yards to see the points shared.
One more game to bring you in the Premier Division and it sees a 1st league win of the season for newly promoted, Writtle Ladies, an Essex derby this Sunday away to Great Wakering Rovers Ladies. Amy Simmons scored a brace for Writtle with Ellie Bowdidge, Lynette Jones and Sophie Vale all scoring their 1st competitive goals of the season in a 5-1 win.
ERWFL Division One
Cambridge City are enjoying life in the ERWFL having been promoted as Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership Champions to the regional set-up taking the new look Division One by storm starting their season last Sunday have played 3 games in 8 days, winning all 3 scoring a staggering 16 goals and even though it is very early days are 5 points clear at the top of the table. Were at home on Sunday taking on bottom side Hoddesdon Town Ladies, Charlotte Gillies, Bella Simmons and Grace Stanley all bagging a brace with Sarah Mosley and Stacey Fullicks also grabbing a goal in an emphatic 8-0 win.
Has been a staggered start to the season in Division One some clubs having only played 1 game others 3, Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies hadn’t even started until this Sunday, at home welcomed Norfolk Division One Champions, Wymondham Town Ladies to the Gateway Academy. Having started with a defeat, Wymondham had come back strongly last Sunday racking up 7 goals to lead the table, now 2nd behind Cambridge City, Gemma Sanders gave Wymondham the lead, Little Thurrock battling back to level the scores, Sanders netted again to put Wymondham ahead for a 2nd time her 4th goal in 3 matches to start the season, again Little Thurrock got it back to 2-2. Laura Wiseman having been injured at the start of the season making it 3-2 her 1st goal of the season. The win was denied late in the game in the 92nd minute the last kick of the match Little Thurrock getting a point in a 3-3 draw their goal scorers Taylor Parrish, Abbie Simmonds and Danielle Styles.
Hutton Ladies climb up to 3rd in the table having started their season last weekend with a 3-3 draw against Offley & Stopsley Ladies, were at home this Sunday taking on fellow Essex side, Silver End United Ladies who won 7-1 at home on the opening day of the season. It was a tight affair a single goal enough to secure the 3 points and it was a win for Hutton Ladies, Hayley Critchell with the goal that sees them climb to 3rd in the Division One table.
Just a single letter in the alphabet separates 3rd placed Hutton Ladies from 4th placed Ipswich Wanderers Ladies both having identical records after 2 league games played having started on the opening day with a 2-1 home win over Wymondham, Ipswich Wanderers were at home again this Sunday taking on Offley & Stopsley Ladies who had begun the season with a 3-3 draw with Hutton. The visitors earning another point with a 2nd score draw the match ending 2-2 Charlene Moreton with 1 of their goals not sure who scored the other. Ipswich Wanderers goal scorers were Tarnya McKew and Kathryn Parnell.
In the final game of this weeks ERWFL Round-Up, Colney Heath Ladies celebrated their 1st league win of the season to climb off the bottom of the table after losing their 1st 2 opening league games. Were taking in newly promoted Hertford Town Ladies in a local derby. Kirsty Feasey gave Colney Heath the lead. Lisa Kline levelling it up for Hertford Town on 25 minutes before Sophie Joseph (pictured right) went on to score 2 goals late in the 1st half to see the visitors lead 3-1 at half-time.
Hertford Town saw a penalty saved early in the 2nd half the chance to pull it back to 3-2 gone, Colney Heath went on to take a 4-1 lead Joseph completing her hat-trick. Holly Sheridan added a 5th goal. Hertford getting a 2nd penalty with 10 minutes left was saved again only this time Dee Gilbert scored from the rebound.
