Cambridgeshire – Sunday 18th September
Early days in the Cambridgeshire Women’s football season, the Premiership having seen just 2 matches played the rest yet to play saw no action again this Sunday except for Newmarket Town Ladies who played in the Women’s FA Cup (their fortunes to be covered in the FA Cup Round-Up later). Was a full programme of fixtures in the Championship North with 5 games with the Championship South seeing 2 fixtures played.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North
Wisbech St Marys Ladies began the season with a thumping 8-0 win away to Thurlby Tigers to put them top of the table. Followed that win up with another dominant display to make it 2 wins from 2 as they began their at home with a double figure score beating Hungate Rovers Ladies playing their 1st match of the season 10-1.
Another side making it 2 wins from 2 to start the season and join Wisbech St Marys Ladies on 6 points are, Ketton Ladies were away this Sunday taking on the newly formed Boston United Ladies. Fran Kavanagh scored 5 goals in the match Robyn Floyd and Kerrie Holden-Jones both scored a pair each. A goal a piece for Bethany Logan, Sascha Smith and Emma Ward seeing Ketton win the game 12-2. Boston United Ladies scoring 2 one in each half, Ella Mcororey and Tabitha Harrison with their goals.
There were double figure scores elsewhere in the Championship North too. P&L Motors Diamonds who had started with a 2-2 home draw against Swineshead Institute Ladies were away to Thurlby Tigers on Sunday. Emma Pollard found the back of the net for 4 goals. Kerry Camwell hitting a hat-trick. 6 more goals coming courtesy of, Natasha Anderson, Nicola Anderson, Courtney Coles, Courtney Hammond, Olivia Nunziata and Tia Vacca in a 13-0 demolition.
Swineshead Institute Ladies followed up their 2-2 draw with P&L Motors Diamonds Ladies with a home game against another new side in the league Spalding United Ladies. Scoring double figures to win the game 10-1. March Town United Ladies were beginning their league campaign with an away trip to Wisbech Town Ladies who had lost 3-1 last weekend away to Ketton Ladies. March were runners-up in the league last season but have opted to stay in the division rather than go up to the Premiership like Cambridge Championship South, St Ives Town Ladies. Got off to a winning start Louise Barbour scoring both their goals as they edged to win 2-1 to slot into 5th place in the table.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South
Two matches being played in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South this Sunday, Cambridge City Ladies new Development side making it 2 wins from 2 this Sunday were at home to Fulbourn Bluebirds who drop down from the Premiership. Philippa Witherspoon scored a brace. Izzy Broadbent, Saskia Capetti, Ellie Geoghan and Erin Walusimbi also bagged themselves goals in a 6-0 victory.
Isleham United Ladies climb up to 3rd spot in the table having suffered a narrow 4-3 defeat against Newmarket Town Ladies Reserves on the opening day were away to Orton Rangers Ladies this Sunday. Donna Nicholls, Jasmine Sheppard and Vicky Gallagher all scoring a goal for the home side, 3 goals wasn’t enough as Isleham United Ladies put 8 goals into the back of the net on their way to victory. Laura Todd scoring 4 of them herself, 1 from the penalty spot. Olivia Caffarelli, Lily Turner, Rebecca Webb and Rachel Turner scoring the other 4 goals between them.
