Starting the Suffolk Round-Up this week with the sad news that another women’s football side has folded this weekend, the forth to be lost in a fortnight, Witnesham Wasps Ladies who reached the Women’s League Cup final last season withdrawing from the league. Struggling to fulfil fixtures short of players it is a blow to see another side fold and wish the players and coaches all the best hope they continue in the game in the future.
That sees adjustment to a league table that is now down to 8 sides. Ipswich Town Ladies Development side beating Witnesham Wasps 3-0 on the opening day of the season see that result chalked off they were away to 3rd placed Brantham Athletic Ladies on Sunday, both sides with a 100% winning start to the season something had to give. A goal scored in each half saw Ipswich Town win the 3 points to make it 4 wins from 4 beating Brantham Athletic 2-0, Taylor Cook and Sian Cottrell with the goals.
In the other game in the weekend in the Suffolk Women’s Division Bacton United Ladies move up from 5th place to 4th with a home win in a high scoring match against Leiston St Margarets Ladies. The visitors finding the back of the net 3 times courtesy of a hat-trick from Lucy Eagle. It wasn’t to be enough to take anything from the game as Bacton United Ladies went on to score 5 goals, both Ria Delves and Maria Walker scoring a brace with Francesca Rainbird also on target in a 5-3 win.
