Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership

Cambridge United WFC Reserves have achieved an amazing treble as they won at the weekend to wrap up the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership title. Having won in midweek away to fellow title contenders Newmarket Town Ladies 3-1 knew one more win would secure the league to add to the Junior Invitation Cup and League Cup already in the bank. Were at home to another potential title hopeful and often close rival Cambridge University Women. Goals from Lauren Gibson and Ebony Rule taking the strike duo onto 18 & 19 goals respectfully along with a goal from Faith Hewitt seeing Cambridge United WFC Reserves to a 3-0 win.

  That midweek loss to Cambridge United WFC Reserves dealt a hammer blow to Newmarket Town Ladies own title hopes needing their rivals to drop points now it was vital they picked up maximum points from their final games. Were at home this Sunday taking on St Ives Town Ladies. A result that could have gone either way a single goal settled the game and it was St Ives Town Ladies leaving the Ridgeons Stadium with the win, Hannah Seymour Shove scoring the winning goal.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North

With league leaders March Town United Ladies not in action this Sunday it was a chance for their closest rival 2nd placed Swineshead Institute Ladies to close the gap to 3 points as they travelled to place 2nd bottom side Hungate Rovers Ladies. But despite a goal for Ellie Spendlow, Swineshead became unstuck suffering defeat as Hungate Rovers won the game 3-1 to record just their 3rd league win of the season.

That loss saw Wisbech Town Ladies take advantage and climb above them into 2nd spot as they were taking on local rivals Wisbech St Mary Ladies for the 2nd successive weekend winning at home last Sunday made it a double win taking all 3 points in the away fixture Sophie Gutteridge scoring all of their goals in a 4-1 victory. With one game left to play however Wisbech Town Ladies can’t catch March United Ladies.

6th placed Boston United Ladies and 5th placed Ketton Ladies were both awarded a home win at the weekend. One more game from the Championship North to bring you played this Tuesday P&L Diamonds hosting Ketton Ladies, plenty of goals in this one, 4 goals for Courtney Coles, a brace for Emma Pollard with a goal each for Katie Steward, Courtney Hammond and Georgia Clarke seeing P&L Motors Diamonds take the 3 points with a 9-3 win.

That result leaves only one side who can catch March Town United Ladies now, Swineshead Institute Ladies in 3rd they are away to Boston United Ladies on Thursday night. Loose it and March Town United will need just a point from their final 3 games, should they win March Town United need 4 points to see them become league champions.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South

The league title in the Cambridgeshire Championship South has already been settled, Cambridge City Ladies Development taking the title. Newmarket Town Ladies Reserves are now confirmed as runners-up after results went their way at the weekend. The only side who could catch them Milton Ladies at home to 2nd bottom Cambridge Rangers. Kirsty Lemmon-Sparks took her seasons goals tally to 32 with a brace but it wasn’t enough to secure the 3 points as Cambridge Rangers found the back of the net at the other end to take home a good point. Milton dropping to 4th with Fulbourn Bluebirds getting awarded a home win against bottom side Orton Rangers Ladies in their final fixture. 

5th placed Riverside Reserves were at home to Isleham United Ladies in their penultimate league game. Amy Magnus and Hannah Stubbs both netting a brace in the game with a goal each for Clare Knibbs and Jess Hill seeing the home side win 6-1. Louisa Harwood with the goal for Isleham United Ladies who finish 6th.
