The Round-Up – Essex 20/11/16

The Round-Up

Essex – Sunday 20th November

It seems every week in The Round-Up somewhere or other at the moment I am reporting about a team withdrawing from a league in the region and this week sadly it’s no different. Southend Town Ladies who had been struggling to fulfil fixtures have pulled out of Essex Women’s Division One which has seen so adjustment to the table benefiting some others losing points won. Sad to see another side gone and wish everyone at Southend Town Ladies the best hope you all stay in the game one way or another.

Essex Women’s Premier Division

One game in the Essex Women’s Premier Division this weekend and Wickford Town Ladies are celebrating after they get their 1st win in the league since being promoted. Climb up to 8th spot in the table as a result the 3 points earned away from home against Hutton Ladies Reserves. 2 goals from Kerry Mills plus a goal a piece for Julia Setford, Carly Willis and Harley Brueton seeing Wickford Town win the game 5-2.

Essex Women’s Division One

2 matches in Essex Women’s Division One on Sunday and Collier Row Athletic continue to advance up the league table 4 straight league wins now. A high scoring game on Sunday at home against Harlow Town Ladies Reserves who themselves found the back of the net 3 times. Was far from enough to take anything from the game however as Collier Row Athletic put more than double that tally into the back of the net winning the game 7-3.

Another side failing to take anything from a match at the weekend after scoring 3 goals were Wickford Town Ladies Reserves despite a hat-trick from Rachael Dipper at home visitors FC Clacton Ladies left with all 3 points after scoring 6 to 4th spot joining 4 sides all on 12 points in the middle of the table.

Essex Women’s County Cup

Like the rest of the region it was County Cup weekend in Essex the 2nd Round of the competition 7 ties to decide who would join Cup Holders, C&K Basildon Ladies in the quarter finals. Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies and Billericay Town Ladies going through with home wins after their opponents withdrew from the league. Chelmsford City Ladies v Lawford Ladies was postponed and they will try again this coming Sunday.

That left 4 2nd Round ties that were played this Sunday. A big win at home for last seasons beaten finalists Writtle Ladies from the ERWFL Premier Division playing Essex Women’s Premier Division side Walden Ladies. Sophie Vale bagging herself 4 goals in the match with captain Abigail Fry netting a hat-trick. Ellie Bowdidge, Lucy Jones and Amy Simmons also scoring as Writtle racked up a 10-0 win.

A big win away from home too for ERWFL Premier Division side Brentwood Town Ladies taking on Essex Women’s Premier Division opponents Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies, the 2 league gap proving too much. Georgia Holdaway finding the back of the net for 4 goals, Marie Barker scoring a hat-trick with Emma Hooker also getting a goal in an 8-0 away win.

Just a single goal was enough to decide the only all ERWFL tie in the 2nd Round of the Essex Women’s County Cup and it saw Division One side Hutton Ladies through to the quarter finals knocking out Premier Division side Colchester Town Ladies at home. Kaitlin Sugg with the goal for Hutton.

An all Essex Women’s Premier Division tie in the last match to bring you from the 2nd Round and Harlow Town Ladies with a 100% win record in the league advance to the quarter finals of the County Cup winning big at home against Collier Row Tigers on Sunday. If you rocked up for the 2nd half you missed an all action 1st half. 6 goals coming in the opening 15 minutes. Tayla Handscomb put Harlow Town into the lead inside the opening minute only for Collier Row Tigers to score right away to make it 1-1, Tia Dye put Harlow Town back into the lead on 7 minutes Handscomb netting her 2nd goal a minute later to make it 3-1, Collier Row Tigers getting it back to 3-2 on 12 minutes. Taylor O’Leary scoring for Harlow Town on 15 minutes to see them lead 4-2. Francesca Tye extending the lead 3 minutes later Harlow Town going on to dominate the remainder of the 2nd half, Fran Gamble having seen the goals going in went on to grab herself a 13 minute hat-trick to see Harlow Town lead 8-2 at half-time. The 2nd half in comparison was a quiet affair with just a further goal added to Harlow Town’s tally O’Leary with her 2nd of the match to see them into the quarter finals and make it 10 wins from 10 in all competitions.

The draw for the quarter finals of the Essex Women’s County Cup scheduled for Weds 30th November.

Essex Women’s Trophy

With 3 of the 4 quarter finals of this years Essex Women’s Trophy already decided without a ball being kicked it was nevertheless a tasty looking encounter in the remaining fixture with Frontiers Ladies new this season high flying in Essex Women’s Division One hosting higher league opponents Chigwell Ladies. The Essex Women’s Premier Division side taking the lead in the match going in front on 14 minutes. Frontiers responded and pulled it back to 1-1 within 7 minutes of falling behind, Hayley King netting the goal. Chigwell came back to retake the lead with 10 minutes of the 1st half left from a free-kick 2-1 the advantage at half-time.

frontiers-freya-liiv  In a competitive match between the 2 sides Frontiers pushing for an equalising goal got it with 12 minutes of normal time left Sharon Ferguson on target ending 2-2 after 90 minutes the tie headed into extra-time. Frontiers were to find the extra energy and got themselves into the lead for the 1st time in the match Freya Liiv (pictured) on hand to put the ball into the back of the net. Held the advantage going into the 2nd period of extra-time, Ferguson scoring her 2nd of the game to open a 2 goal cushion with 5 minutes left, just aswell as Chigwell responded straight away scoring up the other end to make it 4-3. Frontiers seeing out the closing minutes to win the game advance to the semi-finals of the Essex Women’s Trophy where they could face either Trinity U18s or Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves or with Southend Town Ladies withdrawing from the league may even receive a bye straight to the final if I learn anything more will let you know however the draw is scheduled to be made Wednesday 30th November.

The Round-Up – Essex 13/11/16

The Round-Up

Essex – Sunday 13th November

Essex Women’s Premier Division

Lawford Ladies 100% winning start to the season was brought to a halt at the weekend as the Essex Women’s Premier Division leaders dropped points for the 1st time this season after winning all 8 of their opening league matches. Were at home to 3rd placed Chelmsford City Ladies on Sunday the two sides battling out a high scoring draw the points shared the game ending 3-3. Angela Holden, Gaby Freedman and Georgia Sleep scoring Chelmsford City Ladies goals.

That result saw 2nd place Harlow Town Ladies close the gap on Lawford Ladies to a single point with a game in hand as they continued their own 100% winning start to the Premier Division since promotion as Champions from Division One making it 8 wins from 8 themselves with a home win against fellow promoted side Wickford Town Ladies. Tayla Handscomb scoring a hat-trick, Tia Dye with 2 goals with Danielle Hills also on target in a 6-0 win.

Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies move up a place in the Premier Division table with a 5-0 away win against bottom side Hutton Ladies Reserves on Sunday. Alresford Colne Rangers having started life in the Premier Division with 6 straight defeats are now unbeaten in 3 as they pick up another point at home on Sunday against fellow promoted side Chigwell Ladies the match ending in a 2-2 draw. Gemma Howes and Harriet Douglas with the goals for Chigwell Ladies.

Essex Women’s Division One

Corringham Cosmos continue to lead the way in Essex Women’s Division One move onto 24 points for the season from 9 played following a big away win against Benfleet Villa Ladies running out 8-1 winners to claim the 3 points.

frontiers-sharon-ferguson  3 points back in 2nd with 2 games in hand Frontiers Ladies are the only side in Division One with a 100% record moved onto 7 wins from 7 beating another side who have enjoyed a good start to the season at home on Sunday, Hatfield Peveral Ladies. The visitors losing their own 100% winning start to the season against leaders Corringham Cosmos last time out, found themselves a goal down inside the opening 5 minutes, Sharon Ferguson (pictured) scoring to put Frontiers into the lead. Hatfield Peveral got themselves back on level terms 20 minutes into the 2nd half Michelle Hodgson putting the ball into the back of the net. Frontiers retaking the lead 6 minutes before the half-time whistle Ferguson sending the ball into the back of the net for her 2nd goal of the match. Frontiers went on to extend their lead 2nd half, Kelly Holsworth having scored from 2 free-kick last weekend, did the same this weekend although the 1st didn’t count as the referee blew the whistle to deal with some pushing and jostling, retaking the free-kick the ball ended up in the back of the net Frontiers winning the game 3-1.

Collier Row Athletic are climbing up the Division One table with their 4th straight league win moving onto 12 points into 6th spot winning 3-1 away from home against Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves whose goal was scored by Kayla-Marie Everett.

Waltham Forest Ladies lost at home on Sunday playing Wickford Town Ladies Reserves. However I am very tempted to declare it a win to Waltham Forest instead as the bottom side came close to getting a point edged out 4-3, and having covered, well losses every week I am pleased to see such a close result to cover in The Round-Up. Not taking anything away from Wickford Town Ladies Reserves who get themselves a much needed win and confidence booster themselves after a couple of heavy defeats against the leading sides in the Division Jayde Abrahams, Gemma Graham and Lois Curson scoring 3 of their 4 goals.

The Round-Up – Essex 06/11/16

Returned to winning ways this weekend at home in the process ending another sides 100% record at the start of the season taking on Hatfield Peveral. A close contest between the 2 sides Corringham Cosmos claiming all 3 points courtesy of a 3-2 win.

frontiers-adele-hughes  That result leaves 2nd placed Frontiers Ladies as the only unbeaten side in the league and they were in no mood to give it up away to Wickford Town Ladies Reserves on Sunday. Defender Adele Hughes (pictured) was pushed up front in attack for the match and put Frontiers into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 5 minutes. Jill Bartholomew found the back of the net for the visitors 10 minutes later. 3-0 up inside the 1st 15 minutes Frontiers extended their lead with Hughes completing her hat-trick in the 17th minute. Kayla-Marie Everett netting a hat-trick. Emma Sharpe and Megan Bliss both scoring 2 goals each with Becky Tabrett and Beth Morell also putting the ball into the back of the net in a 14-0 victory.

Having come up against the early season pace setters in their opening matches in Division One, Collier Row Athletic took a bit of time to get points on the board but are now on the move up the table building on last Sunday defeat of league leaders Corringham Cosmos with a 2-1 home defeat over Benfleet Villa Ladies to climb up to 7th in the league on 9 points.

2-1 was also the winning margin at home for 6th placed FC Clacton Ladies as they too win their 3rd league game of the season beating 4th placed Harlow Town Ladies Reserves.

The Round-Up – ERWFL 30/10/16

The Round-Up

ERWFL – Sunday 30th October

Bad news to start this weeks ERWFL Round-Up, sad to write about a club withdrawing from the league, not the nly one across the East either as you will read in other Round-Up’s. From the ERWFL Premier Division, Essex side Great Wakering Rovers Ladies have folded. Struggling to fulfill fixtures this season joined with the men’s club 2 seasons ago having previously enjoyed a rapid rise up the leagues as Southendians Ladies. Wishing everyone inviolved with the club all the best for the future and hope to see their players continue in the game.

ERWFL Premier Division

That of course sees so adjustment in the ERWFL Premier Division table with their results no longer standing a blow for the club who had picked up a win loosing the 3 points. One of those sides was 2nd placed Haringey Borough Women had closed the gap on leaders Bedford Ladies to 4 points last Sunday. Losing 3 points had dropped back to a 7 point gap as they prepared to welcome the league leaders to their ground on Sunday. Close the gap back down to 4 points with a good result, winning 5-2 with both Klesha Darroux and Brooke Hills scoring a brace along with a goal from Julia Carruthers. Hannah Bodily and Priya Bhatti on target for Bedford Ladies who lose in the league for the 1st time this season.

AFC Dunstable Ladies are up to 3rd in the Premier Division table after they edged a close game away to Royston Town Ladies at the weekend. Goals from Lori Wilson-Phillips, Samaira Khan and Charlotte South enough to see them win all 3 points winning the match 3-2, Samantha Tinsley with a brace not enough for Royston to tae anything from the match.

AFC Sudbury Ladies climb up the table too into 4th place as they won away from home on Sunday, travelling to the Glassworld Stadium to play Histon Ladies. The visitors leading after just 7 minutes Stacey Teager brought down in the box, getting up to score the resulting penalty. Charlotte Churchman doubling AFC Sudbury’s lead 8 minutes later. Histon reduced the deficet to 2-1 at half-time Alison Wright getting their goal. AFC Sudbury went on to extend their lead 2nd half, Megan Partridge making it 3-1 then Sophe Jeffery made it 4-1 to seal the win.

Acle United Ladies having closed the gap in the leading pair in the Premier Division had lost ground on both Haringey Borough Women and Bedford Ladies dues to postponements, loose further ground after their away win at Great Wakering was chalked off. Drop two places in the table after the weekends resuts down to 5th after an away defeat. Travelling to Essex to play Writtle Ladies who have found some form recently winning their last 2 league fixtures at home. At home again this weekend goals from Abigail Fry, Georgina Tricker and Amy Simmons saw them to victory beating Acle United Ladies 3-1 Joanne Hooper with the goal in the 2nd half for the visitors.

Colchester Town Ladies drop to the bottom of the table after the league adjustment have found a little form of late. Were at home on Sunday playing fellow Essex side, Brentwood Town Ladies, goals from Georgia Box on 10 minutes and Nancy Butler on 17 saw Colchester take a 2-0 lead into the dressing room at half-time. Brentwood Town Ladies came back into the game 2nd half getting it level at 2-2 before going on to win all 3 points winning the game 3-2. Ashley Debnam scoring a brace with Angela Arnold also on the scoresheet.

ERWFL Division One

stevenage-leah-littlechild   Just the one league game in ERWFL Division One this Sunday with Stevenage Ladies Reserves hosting Hoddesdon Town Ladies. The sides had met recently in the league with Stevenage racking up a double figure scoreline on their way to victory. Hoddesdon had just the bare 11 available day but defended resolulty to keep Stevenage from breaching thier goal. The home side eventually getting a goal through Leah Littlechild (pictured). Hoddesdon got it back to 1-1 before the break with captain Charlotte Grogan finding the back of the net. Stevenage went on to win the match 2nd half, Sarah Payne with the goal to see the game won 2-1 the result lifting Stevenage up to 7th in the table.

ERWFL League Cup

Elsewhere the ERWFL Division One sides were contesting the 2nd Round of the ERWFL League Cup. 4 ties, Offley & Stopsley Ladies progressed to the next round without kicking a ball as they were awarded a home win against opponents Hertford Town Ladies.

The ERWFL Division One leaders, Cambridge City Ladies were on the road in the 2nd round of the League Cup a trip to Suffolk to play, Ipswich Wanderers Ladies a solitary goal enough to see the visitors through to the next round coming from Charlotte Gillies in the 1st half.

Also progressing are Wymondham Town Ladies, were on the road too playing Essex side Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies for the 3rd time this season. Abbie Simmonds gave Little Thurrock the lead inside the opening 3 minutes. Wymondham finding an equalising goal on the half-hour mark Laura Wiseman with the goal. 1-1 until the final 15 minutes Kayleigh Holloway put Wymondham into the lead with Wiseman sealing the win to take Wymondham into the 3rd Round in the 90th minute with her 2nd of the match. Bad news form Little Thurrock after the game losing a player due to a broken ankle, Women’s Football East wishes her the best in her recovery.

Having fought out a 1-1 draw in the league just 7 days ago, Colney Heath Ladies and Silver End United Ladies were playing each other again in the 2nd Round of the League Cup. At Silver End United it was another close contest with just a single goal settling the result. Jodie Osborne scoring for Silver End United to see them win 1-0 to progress to the 3rd Round of the competition in which they reached the final last season.

That is because Hutton Ladies Reserves collected their 1st point of the season on Sunday away to Wickford Town Ladies the sides battling out a 2-2 draw. There was also a scoring draw between Collier Row Tigers and Eastern Avenue,  in the Premier Division on Sunday the sides contesting a 1-1 draw.

Essex Women’s Division One

A similar story is developing in Essex Division One as in the Premier Division with leaders Corringham Cosmos winning big at home at the weekend to make it 6 wins from 6 for the new sides at the start of the season. Smashed 12 goals into the back of the net without reply against Wickford Town Ladies Reserves.

frontiers-sharon-ferguson   Another new side making a great start to the season in Essex Division One are, Frontiers Ladies, were away at the weekend taking on Harlow Town Ladies new Reserves side a tough test for both sides. 2nd versus 3rd both on 12 points the game remained goalless at half-time. The Round-Up – Essex 09/10/16

The Round-Up

Essex – Sunday 9th October

Elsewhere across the region in the women’s county football league it has been a slow start to the season, however in Essex the leagues are in full flow with side on the whole playing regularly starting to build form. In both the Premier Division and Division One the title contenders are starting to get into position at the top of the table.

Essex Women’s Premier Division

Lawford Ladies are setting the pace in the Premier Division no stopping them as yet as they made it 5 wins out of 5 at the start on Sunday with a 5-0 home win over Alresford Colne Rangers to keep themselves ahead of the rest.

Harlow Town Ladies, newly formed last season winning the Division One title are a couple of games behind Lawford after postponements and their debut in the FA Women’s Cup. Were away to Chelmsford City Ladies who led the Premier Division for much of last season. Any prospect of a close game was quickly dismissed as visitors Harlow Town Ladies went 2-0 up inside the opening 10 minutes, Fran Tye and Taylor O’Leary with the strikes. It rained goals 2nd half with Tayla Handscomb scoring for Harlow in 24 minutes, O’Leary with her 2nd on the half hour mark. 4 more goals scored in 7 minutes followed. Handscomb with her 2nd goal to make it 5-0 on 32 minutes O’Leart completing her hat-trick 3 minutes later. Lucy Sende scoring on 36 with Tia Dye making it 8-0 at half-time on 39 minutes. A goalless 2nd half followed the damage done 3 wins from 3 for Harlow a great start to life in the Premier Division.

Claire Campbell netted a goal for Wickford Town Ladies with Danielle Dickens scoring a brace too, however 3 goals at home weren’t enough to take anything from the game as visitors Runwell Sports Ladies hit back with 5 goals to win the game move up to 4th in the Premier Division table.

The mid-table clash between Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies & Collier Row Tigers ended all square the points shared in a 3-3 draw on Sunday. Elsewhere it was the battle of the bottom 2 in the Premier Division both Walden Ladies and Hutton Ladies Reserves without a win let alone a point at the start of the season from 3 played. Great result for Walden Ladies as they climb off the bottom into 9th spot with their 1st win of the season at home beat Hutton 6-0.

The game between Chigwell Ladies & Eastern Avenue was abandoned just after half-time due to an unfortunate injury to one of Eastern Avenue’s players a suspected broken ankle Women’s Football East wishes her well and the best for her recovery.
