Frontiers Ladies are the new leaders in the Essex Women’s Premier Division with a 100% winning start to their league campaign 3 wins out of 3. The Harlow based clubs 3rd successive league win coming on the road on Sunday up against Silver End United Ladies at last playing their 1st league match of the season, not the result they wanted however Frontiers having the better of it winning the match 4-1. Harlow Town scoring twice to earn a point from the match to remain unbeaten at the start of the season, Savannah Japal with her 1st goal for the club and Ciara Purdue the players on target for Harlow Town
Leigh Ramblers Ladies newly promoted to the Essex Women’s Premier Division climb up to 3rd in the table with their 2nd league win of the season away to Corringham Cosmos on Sunday an eventful start to the season for Leigh Ramblers who have I suspect been bitten by the FA Women’s Cup bug like a few others in the past following their debut campaign. A 2nd successive win in the league both by 4 goals to 1. Rachel Fleming scoring for Corringham Cosmos in the 1st half.
Chelmsford City Ladies are up to 4th in the table as they recorded their 1st league win of the season at home to Southend United Ladies on Sunday. Early days across the whole league of course just Chelmsford City’s 2nd league game a win off the back of a draw a promising start. Southend United Ladies newly promoted to the Premier Division finally getting their campaign started. Goals for Mia Brisley and Georgia James seeing Chelmsford City to a 2-0 win.
Chelmsford City Ladies, Georgia James

Essex Women’s Division One
Rayleigh Town Ladies made it 3 wins from 3 at the start of the season and it was a goals feast at home that saw them move to the top of Division One. The biggest scoreline of the weekend and brutal reading if you’re a supporter of Belhus Ladies the league newcomers were on the wrong end of a crushing 26-0 win! Captain Isabelle Wallings likes scoring goals and if I type this again I’ll be very surprised as she herself netted double figures with 10 goals to her name. Eleasha Reeves scoring 5 goals, with Megan Harley finding the back of the net for 4 goals. Holly Gash claiming a hat-trick. Amy Cox-Smith with 2 goals along with a goal for Francesca Browne both opening their Rayleigh Town goals accounts for the season.
You only need to win by 1 more goal than you opponents to collect 3 points however and elsewhere it was much closer in Division One on Sunday, Billericay Town Ladies Reserves free scoring at the start of the season with 27 goals from 2 played were looking to make it 3 in a row as they hosted Dagenham & Redbridge Ladies who themselves had started their season with a 7-0 away to Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves last weekend. Two goals in the final 20 minutes for Billericay coming from Sophie Vale and Hope Strauss it wasn’t enough as they suffered their first defeat of the season Dagenham & Redbridge scoring through, Daisy Theobald, Amy Jacobs and Jodie Barden to win 3-2 and maintain their own 100% record.
One goal was enough too for Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves to claim their 1st win of the season as they bounced back from a heavy defeat last weekend away to Dagenham & Redbridge. On the road again this Sunday playing Hutton Ladies Reserves a goal from Laura Kendle the difference between the sides.
Runwell Sports Ladies got back to winning ways on Sunday as they won for the 2nd tie this season following back to back defeats in Division One. Runwell Sports at home to league newcomers Island Ladies. Aaryanna Simonelli enjoying a god start to the season for Runwell Sports her 2nd hat-trick in 4 appearances to move onto 8 for the season with Karen Whitmarsh also getting a goal in a 4-0 victory.
The Essex Women’s Premier Division kicked off last Sunday with a couple of fixtures another 4 sides getting their league campaign started this weekend. A big win to start the season too for Corringham Cosmos as they travelled to play Brentwood Town Ladies Reserves promoted from Division One. Taking a 6-0 lead into the half-time break Corringham Cosmos were in control of the game for much of the 2nd half finishing with a 9-1 win. A 1st half hat-trick for Rebecca Gallagher. Chloe Brown, Madison Hubbard and Michelle Sumpter also getting off the mark in the first 45. 3 more goals coming midway through the 2nd half, Sumpter getting her 2nd of the game with Rachel Fleming and Milly Thompson also on target.
Both Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies and newly promoted Leigh Ramblers Ladies started the season with an opening day loss. With an FA Women’s Cup game away to Histon Ladies coming up this Sunday Leigh Ramblers got a confidence boosting 1st league win of the season scoring twice in each half to win the game 4-1. Rebecca Dalgarno, Emily Diwell, Sasha Vail and Paige White with their goals. Jo Smeaton scoring in the 2nd half for Beacon Hill Rovers.
It was a point a piece for Chelmsford City Ladies and Hullbridge Sports Ladies as they met for their first league game of the season. Drawing 1-1 at half-time they couldn’t be separated come 90 minutes despite scoring 4 more goals 3-3 the final score. Mia Brisley, Rosie Coe and Shannon Kelly opening their accounts. Last season’s Division One Champions, Hullbridge Sports earning a point from their opening Premier Division game with Natalie Sandford on target along with a brace for Lauren Tate.
Essex Women’s Division One
Three weeks into the season in Essex Women’s Division One and at last all of the 11 sides are up and running. A fine start to the season from FC Clacton Ladies are leading the table after this weekends results, unbeaten in their 3 matches. A narrow home win coming this Sunday against Runwell Sports Ladies. 1-0 up at half-time needed a 2nd goal to ensure the 3 points after Aaryanna Simonelli netted for Runwell Sports, goals from Daisy Canny and Becky McDougall seeing FC Clacton move to the top of the table.
Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves were hosting Dagenham & Redbridge Ladies on Sunday both in action in the league for the 1st time this season and it was a great start for the visitors with Dagenham & Redbridge Ladies running out 7-0 winners. Essex Women’s County Cup
Two ties from the 1st Round of the Essex Women’s County Cup played this Sunday and upsets in both with the higher league opponents knocked out. South End United Ladies were playing their 1st competitve match of the season hosting Bowers & Pitsea Ladies the ERWFL Division One side already a month into their season. A strong first half for Bowers & Pitsea albeit with just the one goal to show for it scored by Georgia Fraser. A flurry of goals in a 10 minute spell early in the 2nd half seeing Southend United come back from a goal down to level on 52 minutes, 2 minutes later they had the lead a 3rd goal coming on 60 minutes. Bowers & Pitsea responding quickly got one goal back straight away Fraser scoring again to make it 3-2 but another goal wouldn’t come as Southend United held on for the win. An away tie in the 2nd Round against Harlow Town Ladies Reserves to come for Southend United on Sun 21st October.
Also playing their 1st competitve match of the season were Silver End United Ladies, the Essex Women’s Premier Division side hosting Division One side Rayleigh Town Ladies. A confident start to their league campaign with 2 wins from 2 Rayleigh carried that form into the County Cup, captain Isabella Wallings scoring a hat-trick for the 2nd time this season already. Megan Harley hitting a brace with Eleasha Reeves also on target to see Rayleigh Town through to the 2nd Round with a 6-2 win. Angela Holden with a penalty and Toni Brown scoring for Silver End United. Rayleigh Town will be away in the 2nd Round on Sun 21st October taking on Brentwood Town Ladies Reserves.
For the 2018/19 season the Essex Women’s County Leagues will have two divisions the Premier and Division One, 11 sides contesting each. 4 new sides in Division One, Island Ladies and Belhus Ladies, Hutton Ladies Reserves returning to the league with Leigh Ramblers Ladies officially becoming ‘experienced’ as they are joined by a new Reserves side. Division One kicked off last Sunday, now it’s the turn of the Premier Division.
Essex Women’s Premier Division
2 matches to start the season in the Essex Women’s Premier Division. Runners-up last season in only their 2nd season together Frontiers Ladies will once again be amongst the forerunners in the push for the title in what could prove to be a very intriguing division. Began the season with a win earning the 3 points away to Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies on Sunday. Goals from Kelly Holsworth, Kay Foy and new sighing Dempsey Favell seeing Frontiers to a 3-1 win. Grace Leavett scoring the goal for Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies.
It was a difficult campaign in the Premier Division last season for Harlow Town Ladies Reserves. Competing in the Premier Division once again started this season off with a great home result over newly promoted Leigh Ramblers Ladies, runners-up in their debut season in women’s football Leigh scored plenty of goals and were on target for 4 away from home at the start of the season, Harlow Town though hit their opponents for 7 goals up the other end to earn the 3 points in their opening league fixture. Ciara Purdue and Hannah Smith both scoring a brace each for Harlow Town, Maisy Wyer, Lucy Edmeades and Claudia Zahui all getting a goal each.
Essex Women’s Division One
New to the league the last thing you want to do is face a side that won 14-0 in their opening league fixture, that though was the story for Belhus Ladies as they travelled to play Billericay Town Ladies Reserves, looking very strong this season as they benefit from the 1st team’s squad strengthening over the summer. It’s now 27 goals in 2 matches of Billericay’s Reserves as they scored 13 goals against Belhus, Nancy Butler getting 5 of the goals for Billericay. Lauren Bourne scoring a hat-trick, both Amy Nash and Lisa Robbins hit two each with Emilia Dingwell also on target for her first goal for the club. Didn’t have it all there own way however as Belhus managed to breach the defence for a consolation goal.
Billericay Town Ladies Reserves, Nancy Butler
Leigh Ramblers Ladies Reserves were the side unfortunate enough to come up against Billericay in that 14-0 defeat last Sunday. Bounced back however as they came out on top in a 7 goal thriller away to Chigwell Ladies this Sunday. Chigwell too with a better performance after a heavy defeat themselves on the opening day, Caitlin Hynes and a brace for Victoria Parker seeing them score 3 goals not enough however as Leigh Ramblers hit 4 at the other end to clinch their 1st 3 points of the season.
Runwell Sports Ladies and Rayleigh Town Ladies both enjoyed good wins on the opening day of the season this Sunday they met with Runwell Sports the hosts. Drawing 1-1 at half-time it was the visitors who went onto have the better of the 2nd half netting 4 more goals to take the game 5-1. Megan Harley and Eleasha Reeves both getting a brace for Rayleigh Town with Jo Cooper also getting on the scoresheet. 2 wins out of 2 for Rayleigh Town. The points shared in a 2-2 draw, a first league point earned for Hutton with FC Clacton starting undefeated. Baylie Kingsworth and Maisie Threadgold-Smith the goalscorers for Hutton, whilst Becky McDougall and Amy Hartley were both on target for FC Clacton.
Essex Women’s County Cup
An early tie in the 1st Round of the Essex Women’s County Cup saw Division One side Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves away to Premier Division side Collier Row Tigers. Just 2 defeats in the league all season for Charlton a potent strike force in Gurr and Graham have netted 82 goals between them. An 8th placed finish for Chichester City in the finish a solid season following promotion have been comfortable in the top half of the table for much of the campaign dropping a little late on.

Pipped at the post Lewes FC Women concede 4th place in the Southern Division table having held it for much of the season as Coventry United Ladies grabbed a last gasp winner to nudge them out on goal difference. Lewes travelled to Coventry United knowing a point or better would secure 4th. Coventry having played twice in midweek in an effort to catch up their games in hand had picked up maximum points one more win would see them overhaul Lewes to 4th spot. Were trailing at the break however Lewes ahead 1-0 after Avilla Bergin had fired the visitors into the lead inside the opening 10 minutes. Jade Brook levelled thing’s up for Coventry in the 2nd half. 1-1 until the dying moments the game looked to be heading for the draw Lois Jefferies finding the back of the net to grab a late late winner for Coventry United.
Over 1300 spectators were present for West Ham United Ladies final game of the season at home to Queens Park Rangers Ladies in Sunday. The club having had a fantastic 2018 to date 13 games unbeaten along with 2 cups won along the way. From a precarious position going into the year in the league West Ham United have ended the season comfortable in mid-table. Held 0-0 for the opening half hour it was Rosie Kmita who broke the dead lock for West Ham to put the hosts into the lead, Kelly Wealthall making it 2-0 4 minutes before half-time.

FAWPL South East Division One
Milton Keynes Dons Ladies have done it are the FAWPL South East Division One Champions! An amazing run of 11 wins to end the campaign have lost just the one league game all season and that was their 2nd game of the season back in August. Have been playing catch up all season but as the title race played out before them knew what they had to do at one point 27 points back on the leaders but a maximum points haul would see them close the gap. That of course is easier said than done, credit to everyone involved a tremendous effort with games coming thick and fast towards the end played themselves into top spot with a game to go and knew just a point away to bottom side Haringey Borough was going to be enough come this Sunday.
A 16-1 win for Milton Keynes just a week ago, Stevenage pushed them hard at Stadium MK in midweek a 1-0 just as good however. With plenty of goal scorers in their side Milton Keynes created plenty of chances and took them to wrap up the title with a big win, Laura Mills and Kim Farrow netting a hat-trick each. Both Leah Cudone and Zoe Boote got a brace. Captain Leanna Doyle and Amy Gooderham also on target along with an own goal in a 13-0 win.
An incredibly tough season for Haringey Borough following their double winning success of the season before. Losing a lot of players to university it was a baptism of fire in the FAWPL so many new players losing a manager during the campaign too. Full credit too though for sticking at it have battled and the spirit remained strong the club.
Congratulations to Milton Keynes Dons Ladies on becoming Champions and promotion to the Southern Division.
AFC Wimbledon Ladies the FAWPL South East Division One leaders for so long through out the season ultimately missing out finish as Runners-Up in the league. Two defeats late on in the campaign damaging their own title challenge have nevertheless had a strong season. Ended the season were they began the reverse fixture away to Ipswich Town Ladies who themselves have secured a top three finish in FAWPL South East Division One. Ipswich Town beat AFC Wimbledon 3-1 on the opening day of the season. This Sunday the sides were goalless at the break. AFC Wimbledon taking the lead early in the 2nd period awarded a penalty on 47 minutes Caroline Bisson putting the ball into the back of the net for her 11th goal of the season. Ipswich responded quickly getting back on level terms, Zoe Cossey who has been in fine form this season netting her 21st goal of the season to make it 1-1 the sides ended with a point each.
Ipswich Town Ladies manager Ralph Pruden announcing after the game that he would be stepping down from the role after 4 years in charge a successful spell for the club, will still be involved with the club but taking a well earned rest first, has been very helpful to Women’s Football East in that period and wish him all the best for the future.
Leyton Orient WFC were making their debut in the FAWPL this season and right up their amongst the title chasers from an early stage end up with a 4th place finish. A very good first season at this level their campaign ending with a goalless draw away to Enfield Town Ladies who end in 10th position.
Luton Town Ladies have been amongst the top sides in the FAWPL South East Division One over recent seasons clinching two successive 4th placed finishes before a 5th place finish last season. 5th place was the goal too this Sunday as they travelled to Norfolk to play Norwich City Ladies knowing a win would guarantee the place. Women’s Football East was there to watch the action on a hot sunny afternoon at Plantation Park. A flurry of goals in the early stages of the game, Nicola Henman lobbing the keeper to put Luton a goal up Norwich went straight up the other end and scored the equaliser Chelsea Garrett running through to beat the keeper to the ball and turn the ball into the back of the net. Luton soon back in front Henman the provider this time setting up Jess McKay inside the box to make it 2-1.
Nicola Henman on the attack for Luton Town Ladies.
Luton further extending their 1st half lead as they were awarded a free-kick 30 yards from goal central a brilliant strike from their captain Zara Carroll the ball smashing down off the crossbar over the line to make it 3-1. That the half-time score Norwich came out fighting 2nd half Luton soaking up the pressure ready to hit their opponents on the counter. Norwich pulling a goal back late in the match Garrett with her 2nd of the game, Luton keeping their lead to the final whistle and ending their season with a win. Norwich finish 2nd bottom and will have to wait until the upcoming league restructuring to see if they will retain their FAWPL status for next season.
Stevenage Ladies were the side that could have overhauled Luton to 5th spot had they got the win and Luton dropped points as it was Stevenage away to Denham United Ladies on the final day lost out to a narrow 2-1 defeat, captain Donna McGuigan getting the goal Denham ended the season on a positive note Kayleigh Currivan with a double to see them claim the 3 points.
That’s it for the FAWPL as from next season it becomes the FA Women’s National League.

Norfolk Women’s Division One
Bungay Town Ladies are the Norfolk Women’s Division One Champions and complete a league and cup double. A nervous wait at the end however as they draw their final game of the season to open the door to 2nd placed Sprowston Ladies. 4 points behind with 2 games left to play a 2-0 win against Thorpe United Ladies meant Sprowston could overtake Bungay and become Champions themselves if they could win their final match of the season away to Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves who themselves with two games left to play could move up a couple of places with maximum points.
Sprowston having the better start getting themselves into a 2-0 lead Wymondham Town came back into it Hannah Claughton pulling it back to 2-1. The game turned completely around then as Wymondham Town levelled from the penalty spot Emily Anderson scoring added another soon after to put Wymondham Town 3-2 ahead. Sprowston coming back to level it up at 3-3 late on in the game the sides taking away a point each, Sprowston drawing level on points with Bungay who become Champions virtue of a superior goal difference.
Congratulations to Bungay Town Ladies on completing the league and cup double.
Congratulations to Sprowston Ladies to a very young squad challenging for the title all season missing out on a double themselves just on goals scored after winning the Plate Final.

Essex Women’s Division One
As competitive for the league title in Essex Women’s Division One going into the final week, a 3 way tie at the top with Hullbridge Sports Ladies ahead on goal difference over Leigh Ramblers Ladies and Southend United Ladies the latter two meeting in midweek. All 3 on 49 points.

Corringham Cosmos winners of the League Cup last season in their debut season in women’s football once again reaching the final defending their trophy up against strong opponents in Lawford Ladies both sides still well in contention for the Essex Women’s Premier Division. Had met the weekend before Lawford scoring the blow winning the game 5-2 the first loss in the league for Corringham Cosmos’ young side this season.
Corringham Cosmos taking an early lead in the final held a 3-0 advantage at the break, Lawford getting 2 goals back in the 2nd half through Erin Hornby and Susan Jackson, Corringham Cosmos went on to score 3 more times themselves to win 6-2 and win the Essex Women’s League Cup for the 2nd successive season.
A little extra for The Round-Up this time seeings as I couldn’t be there I asked the winning side for a brief report from the game and Corringham Cosmos manager Irving Lyon was kind enough to supply a few words…
‘In only our second season in ladies football we again went into the final as underdogs as we had lost to Lawford only the week before in the league.
However an early goal by free scoring centre-forward Chloe Sams quickly calmed the pre-match nerves and further goals from Shellie Sumpter and Becky Gallagher meant that we went in 3-0 up at half time.
Lawford started the second half strongly, quickly reducing the deficit to 3-1 but Cosmos showed their usual resolve, determination and team spirit to increase the lead to 5-1 with further goals from Chloe Sams and Shellie Sumpter before Lawford scored a 2nd. Fittingly Chloe Sams completed the scoring and her hat-trick to ensure the Cup was staying in Corringham.
Just by way of back ground info the team is celebrating a decade together having started as U11s, with quite a few of the originals still playing and I’m the lucky fella who has coached them throughout with a lot of help from a good friend Martin Painter. The secret to the success has been the loyalty shown to the club by the girls the best example of which is girls regularly making long trips home from University to turn out for the team.’
