The Round-Up

Norfolk – Sunday 5th March

Norfolk Women’s Division One

A mixture of postponements and suffering their 1st defeat of the season away to in form Bungay Town Ladies in February had seen Thorpe United Ladies slip to 2nd in the Norfolk Women’s Division One table. A midweek 6-0 win for Bungay Town Ladies against bottom side Kirkley & Pakefield FC Ladies had seen them slip a further place to 3rd going into Sunday’s game. Their match away to Fakenham Town Ladies reversed with Thorpe United hosting on a 3G to beat the beat the weather. Sophie Jermy and Lauren Kent both scoring a brace for Thorpe United in the game with captain Rebekah Lake also scoring in the match along with Charlotte Groves and Laura Hedtke to see Thorpe United return back to the top of the league with a 7-0 win.

7-0 was also the winning scoreline for 4th placed side North Walsham Angels Ladies as the newly promoted side aim to secure a top half 1st in their 1st season in the top flight in Norfolk. Were at home on Sunday taking on Aylsham FC Ladies in 6th. Hope Middleton got herself a hat-trick in the game with sister Luci netting a brace. Robyn Johnston also getting her name on the scoresheet with an own goal making up the score to see the 3 points collected.

Norfolk Division Two

7 was a popular number in Norfolk at the weekend with Stalham Town Ladies hitting 7 goals into the back of the net at home to Bohemians Ladies in the only match played in Division Two on Sunday. Leading 2-0 at half-time Stalham Town went on to win 7-1 in the 2nd half, a brace each for Charlotte Crane and Millie Cursons with Stephanie Brightly, Emily Kent and Marie Meale all grabbing themselves a goal.

Norfolk Women’s Division Three

Well a few weeks back I mentioned it was all getting very interesting in Norfolk Women’s Division Three as Toftwood United Ladies won at home against the then league leaders Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves to close up gap between the top 4 to 2 points since then Toftwood United Ladies have continued their excellent form climbing into 2nd in the table and now lead the way! Were at home on Sunday taking on East Coast Ladies who were in possession of top spot going into the match the sides playing out a 7 (yes there it is again) thriller.

East Coast Ladies the visiting side took the lead on 15 minutes Rosie Cook with the goal. Toftwood equalising midway through the 1st half went into the dressing room at half-time 2-1 down after conceding an own goal 4 minutes before time. Toftwood United came out the 2nd half the stronger scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes to turn it around to lead 3-2 extending the lead with 20 minutes left, Katie Hart scoring a hat-trick with Thea Wilson also on target. East Coast pulled a goal back with 5 minutes left with Cook scoring her 2nd of the game to set up a nervous finish but Toftwood now unbeaten in 5 league games win 4-3 to go 2 points clear at the top of the table. One league game left to play with their rivals all having games in hand may well get caught but it’s a good place to be right now. You can read East Coast Ladies match report from the game by clicking on the link below.

Toftwood United Ladies 4-3 East Coast Ladies

Dereham based side Tavern Ladies also move up a place in the Division Three table from 4th to 3rd winning away to Freethorpe Ladies at the weekend a dominant 1st half display seeing them lead 3-0 at the break adding 2 more goals in the 2nd half, Roxy Coomber, Sophie Fuller and Jordan Head amongst the goals. Didn’t have it all their own way however as Freethorpe rallied to pull it back to 3-5 before the final whistle was blown.

Norfolk Women’s Division Three

Mentioned last week how tight thing’s were getting at the top of Norfolk Women’s Division Three and it was all change at the top again this weekend with East Coast Ladies moving above Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves to lead the way after winning at home against 3rd placed Tavern Ladies ending their unbeaten league record in the process. A little confusion with the final scoreline however as Toftwood initially listed it a 9-0 but elsewhere it is recorded as 7-0. Have the goalscorers listed as Katie Hart who netted 4 goals in the game, with Thea Wilson getting a hat-trick to aswell as a goal for Olivia North which makes it 8, either way the 3 points were won.

The title race in Norfolk Women’s Division One is heating up as one side in a hot streak of form in 2017 brought to an end the league leaders 100% winning record on Sunday. The side capitalising most from Bungay Town Ladies victory over the Division One leaders is 2nd placed Kings Lynn Town Ladies, in a strong vein of form themselves their only defeat back on the opening day of the season against Thorpe United are now just 2 points behind with both having played 10 games after winning at home to Aylsham FC Ladies on Sunday. All very tight at the top in Norfolk Women’s Division Three with the top 4 sides separated by just a point now after 4th placed Toftwood United Ladies got the 3 points at home against the league leaders, Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves on Sunday. The Round-Up – 15/01/17

The Round-Up

Sunday 15th January.

A slightly different edition of The Round-Up this week, with just the one to post, falling back to last season’s format which I will bring into play on a weekend such as the one we’ve just had, no surprise going to happen this time of year. A wet start to the weekend, cold too, with rain all day across much of the country on Sunday their were going to be postponements across the East in all 29 games were called off!

It was a wipe-out in the FAWPL & Suffolk, with just one game surviving in the ERWFL, however several sides from that league and the FAWPL were involved in their respective County Cup competition’s some of those falling to the weather too which will alter next weekends fixture list too. So some clubs will be in the County round-ups instead. Still plenty to bring you, 20 games did survive the weather alot of muddy kits to be washed, unfortunate if you got the job this week.

ERWFL Division One

The one match played in the ERWFL this Sunday was from ERWFL Division One with Hertford Town Ladies making the long journey up to Suffolk to play Ipswich Wanderers Ladies. Payed each other last Sunday in the reverse figure Ipswich Wanderers returning home to Suffolk with all 3 points winning the game 4-3. At home both Danielle Lynch and Jess Taylor-Allum scored for Ipswich Wanderers, however Hertford didn’t leave Suffolk empty handed, earning a point in a 2-2 draw.

Norfolk

A total of 6 matches were played in Norfolk at the weekend, the Norfolk Women’s County Cup had reached the quarter final stage. 3 of the 4 ties surviving the weather, Bohemians Ladies & holders Thorpe United will try again next Sunday after their game was called off. Plenty of goals scored in the other 3 quarter final games.

Acle United Ladies are the highest league placed side in Norfolk in the competition competing in the ERWFL Premier Division. With the rain forecast and already playing catch up with their league fixtures took the decision early to switch the match to the 3G pitch at Flegg High School in Martham where they train during the week. King’s Lynn Town Ladies were their opponents playing two leagues below but in good form in Norfolk Women’s Division One in 2nd place unbeaten in the league since the opening weekend.

King’s Lynn were encouraged by a positive start and the game was played at a high tempo, the visitors with some good opportunities to take the lead, however it was Acle United with 2 quick fire goals as the 1st half approached the half hour mark that went ahead. New signing Megan Todd (pictured) was played through into the box coming in from the right sent her shot across the keeper into the back of the net to score on her debut. A minute later Acle doubled their lead, Kate Pasque nodding the ball in from a corner. King’s Lynn kept pressing for a goal, the 1st half into the last 5 minutes a pinpoint cross from Anna Larkins into the six yard box saw Jody Wells racing in force the ball into the back of the net. 3-0 was a harsh scoreline for King’s Lynn and heads were dropping but with the half drawing to a close they got it back to 3-1 the ball played up front, Oksana Imanalijeva turns taking the ball into the box firing home from the top of the six yard box.

The 2nd half starts just like the 1st half both sides on the attack, 20 minutes played and King’s Lynn are forced into a change as Taylor Sarchet is injured helped off the pitch with her ankle bandaged up. A 4-5 minute break in play. Acle go straight on the attack from the restart and score attacking down the right  Larkins plays the cross long to the far post Wells behind the gets call from Bryony Knights who arrives form the left side to turn the ball over the line to make it 4-1. King’s Lynn respond straight away captain Shelley Woods fouled in the area gets the penalty and scores. Moving into the latter stages of the match Acle are awarded a penalty after a drive into the box from Todd see’s her brought down, steps up to take it to score her score of the game. Time for one more goal at the death with Woods through beating the offside trap gets by the onrushing goalkeeper and lifts the ball over the back-tracking defence to score her 2nd of the match final score 5-3 This game was the featured match on the SWF Blog and the whole match report can be found below this post or by clicking on the link below

2016 was a bad year for writing about clubs folding and unfortunately 2017 sees no change 2 more gone over the festive period. The 1st one is in Norfolk, Harleston Town Ladies gone from Division Two after achieving promotion just last season. Have been struggling for a while for numbers and have been conscious of this coming for a while to be honest. A shame but not all doom and gloom the club is to continue in the 7 a-side format of the game for now and hopefully they will return in the future.

That sees the Division Two table adjusted, leaders Gorleston FC Ladies losing 3 points are still a massive 15 point lead however with a 100% winning start to the season 8 from 8 now. There was just the one game played in Division Two on Sunday with 2nd placed Long Stratton Ladies match at home to Briston Wanderers Ladies postponed it gave an opportunity for 3rd placed Sprowston Ladies to climb above them if they got the 3 points at home to Bohemians Ladies. The sides contesting a goalless 1st half a single goal in the 2nd half was enough to secure all 3 points with the 1-0 win going to Sprowston Ladies.

Norfolk Women’s Division Three

The top 2 in Norfolk Women’s Division Three were due to meet this Sunday, with leaders East Coast Ladies due t travel to Dereham to play, 2nd placed Tavern Ladies both sides level on 15 points the game was postponed however giving a chance for 3rd placed Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves on 13 points going into the New Year to go top with 3 points if they beat Freethorpe Ladies away from home. Goals from Sally Hammerton, Emily Anderson and Natalie Wood seeing Wymondham Town win the game 3-0 to take over top spot in Division Three.

In the other game played in Division Three on Sunday it was a good start to the New Year for Toftwood United Ladies as they scored 7 goals without reply at home to bottom side Cromer Town Ladies.

Like the previous 2 Round-Up published on the website their were just a handful of matches in Norfolk on Sunday to end 2016, just the 4 in total across the 3 divisions. 2 games in Norfolk Women’s Division One, little information available. Thorpe United Ladies have had a very successful start to the season end 2016 top of the table with a 100% recording their 8th straight league win to open up a 6 point lead in the table. Were at home on Sunday playing Bungay Town Ladies, Thorpe United with a narrow 1-0 lead at half-time went on to score 3 more goals in the 2nd half to win the game 4-1.

Brandon Town Ladies haven’t had the start to the season they would have liked have like alot of sides Women’s Football East follows across the county leagues not played enough competitive games, following the game like I do it’s not something I’m oblivious too. Looking to end the year on a positive note Brandon Town were at home playing Fakenham Town Ladies who held a 1-0 advantage as the 2 sides headed back to the dressing rooms at half-time. Brandon Town got back on level terms in the 2nd half and went on to win the game 2-1 and move onto 9 points in 4th place in the Division One table.

Norfolk Women’s Division Three

One match also in Norfolk Women’s Division Three with Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves at home playing the side immediately above them, Toftwood United Ladies. Plenty of goals on this game too, Toftwood United scoring 4 goals however it wasn’t enough to take anything from the game with Wymondham Town finding the back of the net 5 times to take all 3 points in a 9 goal thriller that sees them move above Toftwood United into 3rd spot 2 points behind leading pair East Coast Ladies and Tavern Ladies with a game in hand. Gemma Hamilton-Rout scoring a hat-trick and Emily Anderson scoring 2 goals for Wymondham Town.

The Round-Up

Norfolk – Sunday 11th December

Norfolk Women’s Division One

A handful of games across the 3 divisions in Norfolk at the weekend. In Norfolk Women’s Division One there was a big game at the top of the table with 3rd placed Kings Lynn Town Ladies on a good run of form winning 5 in a row since suffering a heavy opening day defeat hosting 2nd placed North Walsham Angels Ladies enjoying a fantastic season since winning promotion last season. A 3 point gap between the sides, Kings Lynn started the brighter the ball moving quickly from one end of the pitch to the other, took the lead in the 12th minute when captain Shelley Woods was given the ball wide on the left 30 yards out shot for goal, goalkeeper Cyan Fulbrook getting a touch on the ball couldn’t keep it from dropping behind her into the back of the net.  Kings Lynn continued to pressure the North Walsham defence extending the lead on 20 minutes Taylor Sarchet receiving the ball in the box laying it back to Becky Russell (pictured) outside the box her shot racing inside the post to make it 2-0.

kl-russell  North Walsham pulled a goal back quickly, Alicia Lacey sending the ball forwards a deflection favouring striker Luci Middleton who picked up the ball inside the box and sent it home to make it 2-1. Right on the stroke of half-time Kings Lynn restored their 2 goal cushion Russell capitalising on a defensive mix up to put the ball into an empty net. A lot of tension between the 2 sides that may have been stopped with early intervention from the referee. Things calmed down a little 2nd half as North Walsham looked to find away back into the match pulled it back to 3-2 10 minutes into the 2nd half Alicia Lacey throwing herself at the ball sent up into the box to turn it past the keeper and over the goal-line. Kings Lynn dealt with the pressure their opponents applied 2nd half and creating chances themselves up the other end got a 4th goal to make the result save late in the match, Josie Turner scoring to see them go level on 18 points with North Walsham beating them 4-2 for the 2nd time this season. Norfolk Women’s Division Three

Two matches in Norfolk Women’s Division Three on Sunday and the lead at the top switches yet again as East Coast Ladies win away from home to move above Tavern Ladies on goal difference. Were playing Freethorpe Ladies who were buoyant after a 4-0 win against Cromer Town Ladies last weekend. However they found themselves on the back foot early on in the game with East Coast scoring 2 quick goals at the start of the game Jordan Duke and Emily Coe putting the ball into the back of the net. Duke going on to score a 2nd goal to put East Coast 3-0, Freethorpe in danger of suffering a heavy defeat reorganised and kept the ball from going in. 2nd half was a much more even affair both sides creating chances and by all accounts a great advert for the game no more goals scored East Coast winning 3-0.

Go top as Tavern Ladies were held to a draw at home against Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves who held a 1-0 lead going into the changing rooms at half-time, Tavern coming back to score in the 2nd half see the points shared in a 1-1 draw.
