Suffolk Women’s County Cup

Quarter finals weekend in the Suffolk Women’s County Cup 8 sides vying for a place in the last 4 of the competition. Holders, Ipswich Town Ladies the favourites to retain the trophy were drawn at home to Bungay Town Ladies at the time leading the way across the border in Norfolk Women’s Division One. A big test for the side two leagues below Ipswich, the hosts getting off to the perfect start Jordan Arnoup giving them the lead in the opening minute from a free-kick. Ipswich were 2-0 up inside 3 minutes as captain Amanda Crump scored to double the lead. A strong 1st half from Ipswich dominating play Sophie Welton making it 3-0 before Crump added her 2nd of the match Zoe Cossey also on target to give Ipswich a 5-0 half-time lead. Not quite so clinical in the 2nd half Miagh Downey increasing the lead on the hour mark, Emily Leach getting on the score sheet for Bungay Town with 15 minutes left, Cossey scoring her 2nd of the game late on seeing Ipswich Town reach the semi-finals with a 7-1 win.

  An all ERWFL quarter final in the quarter finals of the Suffolk Women’s County Cup saw Premier Division side AFC Sudbury Ladies at home to Ipswich Town Ladies Development from Division One North. It was goalless after the 1st 45 minutes, AFC Sudbury going on to score twice in the 2nd half to reach the last 4, Mia Etheridge and Semma Halil with the goals in a 2-0 victory.

   ERWFL Division One North side Ipswich Wanderers Ladies were away in the quarter finals of the Suffolk Women’s County Cup taking on Newmarket Town Ladies playing a league below. Newmarket Town would fancy their chances having knocked two Division One North sides out of the FA Women’s Cup earlier in the season. Got off to a good start too as Abbi Griffin scored in the 24th minute to put the hosts into the lead. Ipswich Wanderers found a levelling goal on the half hour and very quickly after scored again to get there noses in front to lead 2-1 at half-time. Newmarket Town fought back well in the 2nd half Chloe Slater with the strike to put them back on level terms in the 56th minute. Went 3-2 up in the 65th minute thanks to a goal from Sarah O’Rourke. Ipswich Wanderers coming back again with a late late leveller to make it 3-3 and force the tie into a penalty shootout. Tanya McKew netting twice in the game along with a goal for Megan Strickland. Heartbreak for Newmarket Town in the shootout jubilation for Ipswich Wanderers as they booked their place in the semi-finals winning 6-5.

In the last of the 4 quarter final it was an all Suffolk Women’s Division clash in the County Cup between Leiston St Margarets Ladies at home to Brantham Athletic Ladies on Sunday. Leiston St Margarets in good form recently with 3 straight league wins up against 2nd placed Brantham Athletic who themselves haven’t lost in 3. Hot off scoring 7 goals the week before in the league Michelle Stanborough was at it again on Sunday scoring 4 of Leiston St Margarets 5 goals as they reached the last 4 of the competition with a 5-2 win, Brianna Norcott also scoring in the match for Leiston St Margarets.

Suffolk Women’s Division 

One league match played at the weekend and for the 2nd successive Sunday the points were shared between 3rd placed Bacton United Ladies and leaders East Bergholt United Ladies. Bacton United at home this time both sides scoring in the 1st half drawing the match 1-1. Jessica Clark with the goal for East Bergholt United. The lead at the top 5 points East Bergholt United still undefeated.

Suffolk Women’s Division

East Bergholt United Ladies 100% win record came to an end on Sunday as they dropped points for the 1st time this season. Were at home playing 2nd placed Bacton United Ladies both sides scoring in the 1st half going in level 1-1 at the break both scored another goal in the 2nd half to share the points, Jessica Clark and Annie Northwood with the goals for East Bergholt. Lois Balfour and Rachel Linsdell were successfully on target for Bacton United.

   Just a point for Bacton United see’s them drop to 3rd in the Suffolk Women’s Division table as Brantham Athletic Ladies win 7-1 for the 2nd successive Sunday at home to Coplestonians Ladies then were away to AFC Kesgrave Ladies this Sunday, Kirsten Hutchings netting a hat-trick. Jodie Sharp scoring a brace there was also a goal for Sophie Crabtree on the way to victory. 5 points separating the top 3 all have played 9 games.

  Having a strong season in 4th spot in the Suffolk Women’s Division are Leiston St Margarets Ladies as they won for the 6th time this season away to Ipswich Athletic Ladies on Sunday racking up a double figure score in the process winning 10-1. Michelle Stanborough scoring 7 yes 7 goals! Thalia Cloke getting a brace too along with a goal for Lucy Eagle. Rachael Havard with the Ipswich Athletic goal.

    The side that could yet have a big say in the title mix-up are 5th placed Walsham Le Willows Ladies played just their 6th league match on Sunday remain undefeated with just the one draw. Their 5th win of the season coming away from home against Coplestonians Ladies. A single goal enough to win the game for the visitors.

Suffolk Women’s Division

4 games played in the Suffolk Women’s Division this Sunday as leaders East Bergholt United win 7-0 for the 2nd successive Sunday to go 8 points clear at the top of the table continuing their 100% winning run. Away to Ipswich Athletic Ladies this Sunday were leading their opponents 3-0 at half-time before going on to add 4 more in the 2nd half. Annie Northwood getting a brace their were goals too for Jessica Quinsee, Millie Wilding, Pippa King, Jessica Oxlade and Cara Savage.

   A 7 goal thriller between 2nd placed Brantham Athletic Ladies and 3rd placed Bacton United Ladies on Sunday, Sophie Crabtree, Lucy Dunnett and Kirsten Hutchings with the goals for away side Brantham Athletic it wasn’t enough to take anything from the game as Bacton United hit 4 goals up the other end to take all 3 points, Francesca Rainbird netting a brace with a goal each for Kirsten Spooner and Lauren Jacobs. The victory moves Bacton United above Brantham Athletic into 2nd spot.

Walsham Le Willows Ladies are well positioned back in 5th to push the sides at the top of the table as they recorded a big win away from home on Sunday against bottom side Hadleigh United Ladies. Walsham Le Willows playing just their 5th league game of the season Norma Locker top scoring in the match getting a hat-trick, there were braces for Lisa Pratt, Laura Brame and Kirsty Pollard with Gemma Carter, Debbie Greeves and Mia Banbury all getting a goal each in a 12-0 win.

   Leiston St Margarets ladies recent good form continues as the 4th lace sides moves level on points with 3rd placed Brantham Athletic winning at home on Sunday taking on AFC Kesgrave Ladies. Michelle Stanborough scoring a hat-trick in the match their were goals too for Lucy Eagles and Sarah Cooper in a 5-0 win.

Suffolk Women’s Division

A full fixture list in the Suffolk Women’s Division to start 2018 with 2nd placed Brantham Athletic Ladies the side sitting out this weekends 4 games. League leader East Bergholt United ladies enjoyed a good 2017 in the league winning all 6 of their games continued that form into 2018. Were at home hosting bottom side Hadleigh United Ladies, leading 6-0 at half-time East Bergholt added another in the 2nd half to win 7-0 to move them 6 points clear at the top of the table. Annie Northwood scoring a hat-trick for East Bergholt, Millie Wilding netting twice along with a goal each for Jessica Oxlade and Charlotte McGrath. 

Two sides that could potentially challenge East Bergholt for top spot met on Sunday in the league 3rd v 4th with Bacton United Ladies hosting Walsham Le Willows who had played just 3 league games in the 1st half of the season winning all 3. The sides having to settle for a point each as they played out a 0-0 draw.

That result saw 5th placed Leiston St Margarets climb up into 4th position above Walsham Le Willows as they won away from home on Sunday. Coplestonians Ladies the hosts a goal from Lucy Eagle along with a brace for Michelle Stanborough seeing Leiston St Margarets win the game 3-1 to move onto 12 points. Freya Louis on target for Coplestonians.

   AFC Kesgrave Ladies new to the league this season had slipped down the table after a promising start winning their opening 2 league matches had failed to pick up a point since. Started 2018 with a positive result on the road taking on Ipswich Athletic Ladies winning the game 3-1 to record their 3rd win of the season.

Suffolk Women’s Division

East Bergholt United Ladies were 4-2 winners away to Coplestonians Ladies in the only league game played in the Suffolk Women’s Division last Sunday to open up a 3 point lead at the top of the table with a 5th straight league win. Kept the 3 point gap this Sunday as they won big at home to AFC Kesgrave Ladies to extend their 100% winning start to the season, a dominant 1st half seeing East Bergholt United leading 7-0 added a further goal 2nd half winning 8-0, Jessica Clarke and Deban Faiers both scoring a brace in the game with a goal each for Millie Wilding, Annie Northwood, Charlotte Warren and Jessica Quinsee.

  Keeping up the pressure on East Bergholt United at the top are 2nd placed Brantham Athletic Ladies also winning 8-0 at the weekend on the road taking on Ipswich Athletic Ladies. Kirsten Hutchings on target scoring 5 times in the match. Jodie Sharp also netting a brace with Lucy Elmes also getting her name on the scoresheet.

   Also winning at the weekend were Bacton United Ladies to move 3 points clear of Walsham Le Willows Ladies in 3rd place in the Suffolk Women’s Division table. Away on Sunday taking on Leiston St Margarets Ladies were leading 4-0 at half time with both Lois Balfour and Rebecca White scoring 2 goals each. Although Leiston St Margarets threatened a 2nd half comeback getting it back to 4-2 Bacton United held on to claim their 4th league win of the campaign.

   A 2nd win of the season for Coplestonians Ladies moves them up for 8th in the Suffolk Women’s Division into 6th position. Away to bottom side Hadleigh United Ladies on Sunday both Courteney Farris-Whatling and Josie Haward netted a brace along with a strike from Jemma Wessels in a 5-0 win.

Suffolk Women’s Division

The top 2nd met in the Suffolk Women’s Division at the weekend with leaders Brantham Athletic Ladies, 3 points clear at the top travelling to 2nd placed East Bergholt United Ladies. Always likely to be a competitive games between the 2 sides it proved so the sides drawing 1-1 at half-time it was the hosts who edge the result scoring twice more in the 2nd half to win the game 3-2 with Charlotte McGrath scoring a brace along with a goal for Annie Northwood. The 3 points taking East Bergholt back to the top of the table thanks to their superior goal difference.

  Hot on their heels are Walsham Le Willows Ladies late to start their season have begun with 3 straight league wins to move onto 9 points. Although they had to work for the win away to Leiston St Margarets Ladies on Sunday who scored twice with Lucy Eagle and Michelle Stanborough on target wasn’t enough in the end with the visitors outscoring them to win the game 3-2.

  Also joining Walsham Le Willows on 9 points in 3rd place in the Suffolk Women’s Division table are Bacton United Ladies Ladies after they claimed a big win at home to bottom side Hadleigh United Ladies on Sunday. Francesca Rainbird top scoring in the match grabbing herself a hat-trick. Maria Smith also finding the back of the net for 2 goals. Elsewhere the goals were spread out with Rachel Linsdell, Kirsten Spooner Lauren Jacobs, Caitlin Howe and Lois Balfour all getting on the scoresheet in a 10-0 win.

  At the other end of the Suffolk Women’s Division, Coplestonians Ladies are off the bottom of the table after they won for the 1st tie this season in their 5th league game away to AFC Kesgrave Ladies. Jemma Wessels scoring twice for Coplestonians with Shannon Giles and Niamh Hedges-Quinn also scoring in a 4-2 victory. Ashley Bustos amongst the goals for AFC Kesgrave who started the season well with 2 wins have since lost their last 3.

Suffolk Women’s Division 

4 games played in the Suffolk Women’s Division this weekend and with league toppers East Bergholt United Ladies not in action it was an opportunity for the rest to close the gap. Brantham Athletic Lades did just that away to Coplestonians Ladies on Sunday as they made it 3 wins from 3 to start the season. Goals from Lucy Dunnett, Kirsten Hutchings and Jodie Sharp securing the 3 points with a 3-0 win.

  Bacton United Ladies move up from 4th into 3rd in the Suffolk Women’s Division beating newcomers AFC Kesgrave Ladies away from home their 1st loss of the season after winning their opening 2 league games. Francesca Rainbird scoring a hat-trick in a 3-1 win for Bacton United. Ashley Bustos scoring the 2nd half goal for AFC Kesgrave.

   A 2nd win of the season for Leiston St Margarets Ladies and a big one to away to league newcomers Hadleigh United Ladies. Fielding the bare 11 it was the home side who started the better however striker Isabel Chaplin running clear to attack the Leiston defence regaining possession inside the D and curling a shot into the top corner to make it 1-0. Leiston soon regained momentum and a spell of 3 quick goals midway through the half put them in control of the game. Two more goals before the half-time whistle saw them lead 5-1. A repeat of the goals 2nd half early on with 3 more scored in quick succession. An 8-1 one lead Hadleigh kept going but with Leiston having the extra legs to bring off the bench it was they who added the goals 2 more scored to win the game 10-1 and climb into 5th.

  Walsham Le Willows Ladies having finally started their season last weekend in the County Cup were getting their league campaign underway this weekend away to Ipswich Athletic Ladies. Amongst the favourites to win the Suffolk Women’s Division title they started well with a comfortable result beating their opponents 6-0 to take the 3 points home.

Suffolk Women’s Division

Two league games played in the Suffolk Women’s Division this Sunday. League leaders East Bergholt United Ladies extended their 100% winning start at the season to 3 from 3 to move 3 points clear at the top of the table. At home to Leiston St Margarets Ladies a strong 1st half performance saw them leading 6-0 going on to add 4 more 2nd half to win 10-0. Jessica Clark top scoring in the match getting half of the goals for East Bergholt United. Annie Northwood scoring a hat-trick with Jessica Quinsee adding a brace.

 Losing their 1st league game of the season Bacton United Ladies claimed their 1st win of the season this weekend at home to Coplestonians Ladies the 3 points lifting them up to 4th in the Suffolk Women’s Division. Leading 4-1 at half-time Bacton went on to win the match 9-1. Rebecca White scoring 4 goals in the game. Lois Balfour and Emma Long both netting a brace with Kirsten Spooner also on target.

Still very early days in the Suffolk Women’s Division with the 9 sides only playing a handful of games to date, Walsham Le Willows still to get off the mark. 3 sides starting with 2 wins from 2 to lead the way, East Bergholt United Ladies top of the table on goal difference after an opening game 9-0 win was a much closer game this weekend at home to Ipswich Athletic Ladies the sides going into half-time drawing 1-1 East Bergholt United going on to win the game 2-1 in the 2nd half their goalscorers, Jessica Clark and Charlotte McGrath. Madeleine Fairbrother with the 1st half strike for Ipswich Athletic.

Brantham Athletic Ladies are 2nd in the Suffolk Women’s Division after coming back to win at home against Bacton United Ladies who had knocked them out of the league cup last weekend. Bacton United playing their 1st league game of the season were leading 2-0 at half-time thanks to a brace from Lois Balfour. Brantham Athletic launched a 2nd half comeback getting back on level terms then going on to win 3-2. Kirsten Hutchings, Jodie Sharp and Shanice Leeks with the goals.

   Also making it 2 wins from 2 to start the season with 6 points a new side AFC Kesgrave Ladies again winning a close game 3-2 at home to Leiston St Margarets Ladies. A brace from Ashley Bustos along with a goal from Christy Fraser seeing AFC Kesgrave take the 3 points, Leiston St Margarets goals scored by Lucy Eagle and Michelle Stansborough.

Suffolk Women’s Division

 Into the 2nd week of the season and 3 more sides get there season started two meeting with new side Hadleigh United Ladies hosting East Bergholt United Ladies a big win for the visitors that puts them top of the table scoring 5 goals in the 1st half adding 4 more in the 2nd to win 9-0. Annie Northwood scoring 5 of those goals for East Bergholt, the other 4 goals were scored by Georgina Longden, Jessica Quinsee, Cara Savage and Jessica Oxlade. 

   Moving straight into 3rd spot in the Suffolk Women;s Division table are another new face to join the league this season, AFC Kesgrave Ladies at home were taking in Ipswich Athletic Youth Ladies. Were 2-0 up at half-time, Kesgrave finished 5-0 winners 5 different goal scorers in the game with, Ashley Bustos, Georgia Clarke, Christy Fraser, Issi McCartney and Daisy Starsmoore all opening their accounts.

  Leiston St Margarets Ladies were defeated 6-0 on the opening day away to Brantham Athletic Ladies. This Sunday the bottom side scored 6 at home to beat Coplestonians Ladies the win lifting them up into 4th. 6-1 the final score. That leaves two sides yet to get started Bacton United Ladies and Walsham Le Willows Ladies. The former will be in action this Sunday in the League Cup, Walsham Le Willows finally get going in October.
