Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership
The season has barely gotten started in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership with just a handful of games to date 4 sides with a game under their belts going into this weekend, 3 more getting their season started this Sunday. Cambridge United WFC Reserves with alot on new faces in their squad this season suffered a defeat on the opening weekend going down 2-1 to newly promoted St Ives Town Ladies. Were at home this Sunday taking on another new side to the Premiership, Bourne Ladies finishing as Championship North Champions last season. Was a debut in the higher tier they will want to forget, Cambridge United WFC Reserves proving too strong an opponent on the day playing at their new home, Barton Recreation Ground. Ebony Rule finding the back of the net for 4 goals with Lauren Gibson bagging herself a hat-trick. Teonie Payton scored her 1st 2 competitive goals for the club too as well as Gabrielle Whitehurst netting her 1st goal too in a 10-0 that moves them into top spot in the table.
St Ives Town Ladies were on the road on Sunday playing Netherton United Ladies at The Grange. Netherton had lost their opening game of the season by a single goal against Newmarket Town Ladies. Got their 1st 3 points on the board winning the game 3-0. Jenna Harn, Georgina Parrett and Megan Parrett with their goals.
Park Ladies were making their Premiership debut on Sunday promoted as Championship South Champions in their 1st season joining the Cambridgeshire women’s football leagues. Were on home soil welcoming Bar Hill Ladies also starting their league season. Goals from Hollie Dare, captain Lucy Goddard, Anna Jephson and Laura Spaxman seeing the visitors start with a win the final score 4-1.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North
Wisbech St Marys Ladies continued their excellent start to the season in the Championship North making it 3 wins from 3 away to P&L Motors Diamonds on Sunday. Not that they were given an easy 3 points by the home side who found the back of the net 3 times, Nicola Anderson, Emma Pollard and Tia Vacca all on target. Lauren Laws and Charlie Knight scoring in the 1st half for Wisbech St Marys Ladies, Knight went on to add her 2nd of the game early in the 2nd half. 2 goals inside the last 10 minutes seeing the away side to victory, Laws netting her 2nd of the match on 84 minutes, Frances Peeling scoring 2 minutes later, final score 5-3.
Keeping pace with Wisbech St Marys Ladies at the top of the Championship North table are, Ketton Ladies who also have a record of 3 wins from 3 to start the season. Were playing at home at the weekend taking on Hungate Rovers Ladies. Fran Kavanagh scored twice with Emma Ward also finding the back of the net in a 3-0 win.
March Town United Ladies finished runners-up in the Championship North last season got off to a winning start away to Wisbech Town Ladies last Sunday beating them 2-1. Were at home this Sunday taking on new side Boston United Ladies who had started life in the Championship North with a heavy defeat. Not such a high scoreline this time around March Town United Ladies making it 2 wins from 2 with a 2-0 victory. Louise Barbour and Adele Munday with the goals.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South
In the Championship South, Cambridge City Ladies new development side are matching their 1st team playing the the ERWFL Division One this season with a 100% winning start to the season playing their 3rd league match were at home to Newmarket Town Ladies Reserves on Sunday. Bella Simmons scoring a brace, Saskia Capetti and Erin Walusimbi also grabbing a goal each in a 4-0 win to make it 3 wins from 3.
Moving into 2nd spot in the Championship South table are, Milton Ladies as they made it 2 wins from 2 recording a huge win at home to Orton Rangers Ladies. Kirsty Lemmon-Sparkes bagging herself a double hat-trick. There were hat-tricks too for Sam Cousins, Dora Dixon and Olivia Thorogood with Carly Dawson getting a brace in a whopping 18-0 win.
Laura McAllister scored twice for Isleham United Ladies to see them climb up to 3rd in the Championship South table following a 2-1 home win over Riverside Rovers Ladies Reserves who were starting their league season on Sunday.
After suffering a 6-0 loss away to Cambridge City Ladies Development as they began there Championship South campaign last Sunday, Fulbourn Bluebirds bounced back with a home win to get their 1st 3 points on the board this time around coming out on top in a narrow 3-2 win over Cambridge Rangers, Sharron Pinner scoring 2 goals with the 3rd scored by Katie Luddy.
