Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership
One game beat the weather in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership at the weekend with league leaders Newmarket Town Ladies at home to Cambridge University Women. Cindy Ponder scored from 25 yards inside the opening 10 minutes to give Newmarket an early lead. Cambridge University equalised 7 minutes later Maude Gibbins sending the ball into the back of the net. The visitors went on to take control of the match with Amanda Wainwright scoring an 8 minute hat-trick late in the 1st half to lead at the break 4-1. Kate Rose extended Cambridge University’s league in the 58th minute. Newmarket pulled a goal back with 20 minutes left Amelia Deuchars on target with the goal. The 5-2 win seeing Cambridge University Women climb up to 4th place in the table with games in hand on the leading pair.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Invitation Cup
One outstanding tie from the 1st Round of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Invitation Cup postponed from the previous 2 Sunday’s, Premiership side, St Ives Town Ladies were away to Isleham United Ladies from the Championship South. The Premiership side got off to a bad start finding themselves 2-0 as Laura Todd and Lily Turner scored for Isleham. St Ives Town rallied however and fought their way back into the game Tierney Coulson, Sophie Marheineke and Amy Seymour-Shove all scoring to see the visitors win the tie 3-2 and reach the quarter finals of the competition.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North
Championship North leaders, March Town United Ladies saw their match against Boston United Ladies called off after their opponents couldn’t raise a team. That gave an opportunity to 2nd placed Wisbech St Mary Ladies to attempt a close the 6 point gap as they took on P&L Motors Diamonds at home, their opponents coming into the game off the back of a 9-0 home win the previous Sunday putting them in touch with the chasing pack in 5th spot. Wisbech St Mary scored 4 goals in the game with Lauren Laws scoring in the 1st half, Sian Peeling with a brace her 2nd in the 89th minute, Carlie Knight also scoring on 87 minutes, 4 goals however weren’t enough to get anything from the match as P&L Motors Diamonds scored 7 goals to win the game and the 3 points that take them up into 2nd spot above Wisbech St Mary in the Championship North table.
In the other game that survived in the Championship North it was a huge win at home for Wisbech Town Ladies at home to Hungate Rover Ladies. Sophie Gutteridge top scoring in the match with 4 goals. There were 2 goals each for Shushannah Feast and Leah Hall with Jemma Adams, Polly Norman and Zoe Tyhurst all grabbing a goal each for Wisbech Town in an 11-0 win.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South
One game in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South on Sunday an 11am kick-off at the Girton Recreation Ground with Cambridge Rangers hosting Fulbourn Bluebirds. The visiting side coming away with all 3 points winning the match 6-0 with a brace each for Kirsty Geal and Marie Stubbings. Sharron Pinner and Samantha Issacson getting the other goals for Fulbourn as they join Isleham United Ladies and Riverside Rovers Reserves in mid-table on 9 points.
