Suffolk Women’s County Cup – Sunday 19th February
This weekend in Suffolk it was all about the Suffolk Women’s County Cup the competition at the semi-finals stage. The two ties played at neutral venues. Cup Holders Ipswich Town Ladies were playing ERWFL Division One side, Ipswich Wanderers Ladies at Whitton United. Two leagues between the sides Ipswich Town Ladies playing in the FAWPL South East Division One had had a comfortable win against Ipswich Wanderers Ladies in a pre-season friendly, however it was a different proposition in the cup a place in the final at stage Ipswich Wanderers tough to break down clearing the ball off the goal-line as Ipswich Town created chances in the 1st half eventually broke the deadlock in the 37th Hollie Clement’s corner going straight in to see them lead 1-0 at the break. Ipswich Town came out strong 2nd half Natasha Thomas always lively having a number of chances to extend the lead, Ipswich Wanderers kept it till one nil ha the odd chance to draw level before Ipswich Town found a 2nd goal Roxanne Small scoring to see Ipswich Town get the result and make it into the final once again.
Their opponents in the Suffolk Women’s County Cup Final will be fellow FAWPL South East Division One side, Lowestoft Town Ladies after they beat Bacton United Ladies to book their spot in the final. The game played at Woodbridge Town FC, Bacton United Ladies were the only side playing their football in the Suffolk Women’s Division to make it this far in the competition, faced a big test taking on a side playing their football 3 leagues higher. Lowestoft Town scored twice in the 1st half with captain Hannah Waters opening the scoring, Charnelle Riggall making it 2-0. Waters scored again in the 2nd half with Broghan Scully also netting for Lowestoft Town to win the match 4-0.
