Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup

The Cup Final action continues this week on Women’s Football East this Wednesday, hot on the heels from watching the Suffolk Women’s League Cup final a trip to Cambridgeshire to watch ICA Sports Ladies versus Newmarket Town Ladies competing for the Women’s League Cup.

An all Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership Clash, Peterborough side ICA Sports Ladies playing the 1st of two finals they have reached this season with the postponed Junior Invitation Cup Final coming up on the Wednesday 16th May at Newmarket Town FC against Championship South side, Isleham United Ladies. This evening though the focus is on the League Cup. Have progressed in the competition as there form has improved through the season picking up well after a slow start losing there 1st 3 league games some notable results along the way to including beating Premiership leaders St Ives Town Ladies in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

Newmarket Town Ladies have had a great season to date, an early run in the FA Women’s Cup knocking out higher league opposition have as a result been playing catch up in the league now into the final run in lay in 2nd spot behind St Ives Town Ladies and a well positioned to challenge should there rivals slip up. Reaching the League Cup Final have scored plenty of goals throughout the season and have several goalscorers in their squad.

Both sides into their 1st League Cup Final.

Road to the Final

A walkover in the 1st Round for ICA Sports Ladies whilst Newmarket Town Ladies racked up a rugby score away to Championship South, Burwell Tigers these score pop up one or twice a season 30-0 to the Premiership side. Into the 2nd Round and ICA Sports were at home taking on Championship North side Wisbech Town Ladies a brace from Donna Nicholls along with a goal each for Hayley Jones, Jessica Farchina and Megan Purnell seeing ICA Sports progress to the quarter finals with a 5-1 win. Newmarket were on the road taking on fellow Premiership side Park Ladies. The goals spread around with Cindy Ponder, Amanda Stacey, Brooke Wickens, Antonia Smith Sarah O’Rourke and Chloe Slater scoring in a 6-1 win.

ICA Sports were at home in the quarter finals taking in Championship South title hopefuls Histon Ladies Reserves. A close game Histon leading 1-0 at half-time a goal from Megan Purnell squaring it up at 1-1 to send the tie into extra-time, no more goals it went to penalties ICA Sports emerging victorious with a 3-2 win to reach the last 4. Another away trip for Newmarket taking on Championship South side Isleham United Ladies. A comfortable win seeing them into the last 4, both Abbi Griffin and Laura Bailey scoring twice with a goal each for Chloe Slater and Jess Linger in a 6-0 win.

Both semi-finals played on neutral territory at the Fulbourn Recreation Ground. A great result for ICA Sports in the semi-finals drawn against Premiership leaders St Ives Town Ladies. ICA Sports in good form the sides were goalless at the break the winning goal coming in the 2nd period, Lorna Hart with the goal to send ICA Sports into the League Cup Final. Newmarket were taking on Cambridge University Women. Newmarket continuing their good form in front of goal reaching the League Cup Final courtesy of a 5-1 win, Jordanne Sillitoe scoring a brace with Abbi Griffin, Amanda Stacey and Chloe Slater all getting a goal.

3 times the sides have met in the league this season Newmarket winning 2 of those encounters 4-1 whilst the other game ended in a goalless draw. League form however goes out the window in any cup game.

The venue for this evenings Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup Final sponsored by S-Tech Insurance The Ellgia Stadium, home of Ely City FC. Has been a while since I was last here, there is now a new cinema and restaurant complex build on the land leading to the ground off the A10. The rugby club, tennis, golf and football ground still beyond. New dugouts, the pitch looking in good condition a little bobbly offers good width. Concerned earlier above whether the game would be on heavy rain falling for a while late morning into the afternoon but it cleared and pleasant and mild afterwards, perfect weather for a game of football… about time too.

Just the one substitute available for ICA Sports, Newmarket having several attacking options available on theirs. It’s ICA Sports to get the first half kicked off, wearing royal blue shirts with a white and navy band across the top, royal blue shorts and blue and white hooped socks. Newmarket wearing yellow shirts and socks with blue shorts.

ICA Sports put the ball forwards right from the off showing attacking intent, Lorna Hart the target , Beth Woodfield captaining Newmarket heading the ball away at the back. Donna Nicholls receiving the ball form Jess Farchica drives forwards on the right tackled by Newmarket full back Yasmin Woodfield. ICA Sports with a good start lively getting players forwards have Newmarket penned back in their own half.

A throw deep on the left into Hart the striker putting the ball inside for Farchica, Newmarket tackle the ball cleared, ICA Captain, Becky Shields bringing it down on halfway, builds another ICA Sports attack. Newmarket haven’t settled, ICA Sports taking full advantage goalkeeper Eloise Hope rushing out of her area to clear the ball for Newmarket as Hart is put in over the top. Newmarket have the ball the pass out to striker Jordanne Sillitoe moving away to the left, her crossfield ball coming to Abbi Griffin in space on the right takes it forwards her cross into the box gathered by ICA Sports goalkeeper Clare Knibbs at her near post.

Nicholls on the left the ball up to Hart, Cindy Ponder going up for the ball with striker the ball out for a throw-in on the left. Played into Nicholls top of the area, inside for Hart played on across the D for Zoe Leddy, taking the all away to the right making room for a shot sends a low strike angling in towards the far post, Hope is in position to gather the ball. Laura Bailey with the ball inside the ICA Sports half plays the pass out to Brooke Wickens running forwards on the left taking it to the edge of the box the ICA Spots defence close on her no room for a strike a regain possession of the ball.

ICA Sports Ladies, Donna Nicholls

Counter attacking the ball played up to Hart she knocks it down to Nicholls breaking in behind on the left, Ponder coming across to slide in and take the ball away from her. Hart leading the line for ICA Sports the ball played into her 25 yards from goal central bringing it down turns and strikes the ball in towards goal her effort straight at Hope the Newmarket goalkeeper claiming the ball.

GOAL! ICA Sports capitalise on their good start take the lead as Hart forces a mistake at the back the ball played into the left channel the striker going after it as it runs into the box Beth Woodfield trying to shield it back to her keeper, Hope comes out sliding in, Hart on Woodfield’s back the ball is touched by the defender taking it out of Hope’s path leaving her goal exposed Hart alive getting around the Newmarket pair and sending the ball into the back of the empty net 1-0.

Newmarket were planning a change before the goal do it before the restart Antonia Smith giving way for Frankie Torrance who goes into left back pushing Wickens further up on the wing. Bailey with the ball into Sillitoe left side her lay off to the advancing Torrance 20 yards from goal her attempted strike charged down by the ICA Sports defence. Megan Purnell with the ball attacking on the right wing for ICA Sports screws a shot wide from 25 yards out. The positive start from ICA Sports has them full of confidence, Newmarket rattled are disjointed

Jess Linger with the ball in the centre for Newmarket on for Sillitoe ahead of her spins the ball out to the left with Wickens bombing on, Shields coming across to clear the ball out for a throw top of the area. Sillitoe taking the throw down well into her body turns and sends a cross into the area, Knibbs can easily gather. Getting early goal they were after ICA Sports have settled forming a solid shape at the back not showing as much attacking intent. Nicholls a threat on the left. Ponder tackling in the middle of the Newmarket defence as Hart looks to force her way in on goal. ICA Sports make a change, Rhian Leonard coming on for Holly Partner.

Bailey plays the ball forwards Sillitoe leaving it to run on through as Wickens runs clear in behind on the left side, Purnell going with her tackles her on the edge of the area. A free-kick wide left for Newmarket, Linger on it a good distance goes for goal the ball wide of the near post. Torrance bringing the ball on down the left on for Sillitoe the Newmarket striker beating a coupe of players before sending a diagonal ball into the box Griffin with the central run the ball too close to the keeper Knibbs down to gather before her goal is threatened.

Hart strong on the ball gets the better of Beth Woodfield wide left puts a cross/shot in towards goal the ball flashing out wide at the far post across the goal face. Bailey opens up her body sliding the ball into Sillitoe to attack the ICA Sports, no shot on as the opposition are quick to converge, Farchica with Sarah Rouse a shield in front of their defence. Newmarket haven’t got going properly at all, attacking room in the final third but closed down quickly passing options aren’t on. ICA Sports bringing it away Hart always ready yo turn in behind up top.

Into the closing minutes of the 1st half, Leonard forwards on the right for Newmarket played in down the line coming inside Ponder tackling the ball out for a corner kick. Defended near post a goal kick awarded. Rouse sending the ball back into the area as Newmarket initially clear it, bouncing Hart at six yards out Hope does well up against her, her punch taking it off her head knocking it to the floor is first to it and gathers. A free-kick inside the ICA Sports half for Newmarket, Linger has Yasmin Woodfield in space to her right she is supported by Griffin working the ball forwards Leddy wins the ball back for ICA Sports before any cross can be delivered.

A strong 1st half performance from ICA Sports showing attacking intent from the start, got Newmarket on the back foot and getting the goal they were after have sat back since. Newmarket are more often than not a free flowing attacking side, haven’t settled at all in the 1st half on this evening’s final a large part down to ICA Sports, haven’t tested Knibbs with a shot getting the ball in and around the box, Shields and Pepper strong at the back backed up well by Rouse and Farchica in front of them. Chances have been few the difference ICA Sports have taken theirs. A narrow lead to defend but Newmarket need to find more in themselves if they are to find a way back into the game 2nd half.

The floodlights starting to take full effect as the light fades the sides out for the 2nd half. A change for Newmarket who get the 2nd half kicked off, Sarah O’Rourke up top supporting Sillitoe with Bailey off. Ponder moved into midfield, press the ball early Sillitoe inside for O’Rourke the substitute driving forwards to try and get into the box, Farchica sliding in to tackle. A counter attack for ICA Sports the ball played out to Nicholls bursting forwards on the left her pass inside to Hart runs in behind the return pass a little too heavy allowing Hope to come and gather.

Pepper goes in to win the clearance for ICA Sports the ball played long up to Hart moving into the left channel, Beth Woodfield coming across to her to shield the ball out for a goal kick. O’Rourke with the ball deep on the left after a throw-in her cross fired in towards the near post Griffin getting in front of the keeper tries to flick the ball past her with her heel the ball running across the face of goal. Sillitoe with support from O’Rourke right side of the ICA Sports box pushing the ball into her Sillitoe coming inside receiving return ball her shot in curling wide of goal.

Yasmin Woodfield on the overlap in behind as Griffin slides the ball into her run her cross in cleared by Pepper, comes straight to Ponder drives a shot back in towards goal on target but straight at Knibbs the keeper taking the ball safely into her body. Newmarket starting the 2nd period well players forwards into attacking positions ICA Sports remain a tough nut to crack. Hart the outlet up top for ICA Sports the ball played up to her tried to turn in behind is tackled by Slater.

O’Rourke fouled by Shield as she looks to force her way forwards with the ball through the middle a free-kick in a dangerous position 25/30 yards out Linger takes on the shot her rising ball parried down and caught by Knibbs. A free-kick up the other end as Nicholls is fouled by Beth Woodfield 22 yards out left of the D. She shot striking the wall the rebound blazed high over the goal.

Pepper comes across to tackle put the ball out for a throw on the right as Griffin is played in behind by Ponder. ICA Sports are standing strong against the Newmarket assault Sophie Antonucci bringing the ball on from the back on for Nicholls on the left the ball put out for a throw level with the top of the Newmarket area.

GOAL! ICA Sports double their lead off the throw in the ball rolled inside for Farchica having gotten into an advanced position 25 yards out no one on her shifts the ball and sends in a great strike towards goal looping up into the air has Hope worried back on her line it dips late on her striking the underside of the crossbar bouncing down and up again the angle taking it into the goal off the side netting 2-0.

A further blow for Newmarket a triple change made Smith back on along with Joeli Kirby and Lauren Deller. Hart strong through the middle, Beth Woodfield doing well up against her to regain possession. Newmarket overloading the left side win a corner the ball curled in towards the near post Rouse defending for ICA Sports. A change for ICA Sports, Leonard off Purnell back on. Newmarket press players on attacking risk leaving gaps at the back, ICA Sports though defending resolutely are camped inside there half defending the box, Farchica cutting out a through ball for O’Rourke from Ponder.

Another strike charged down by Pepper, Linger bringing the ball on. Kirby getting hold of the ball 25 yards out runs towards the area, now way through the ICA Sports defence. Newmarket rotate players in attack desperate to find goal. ICA Sports make a change a slight knock for Nicholls, Leonard returning. Into the final 5 minutes ICA Sports are working hard to keep Newmarket at bay happy for the ball to be played around 25 yards out letting no gaps appear especially through the middle.

Hart up top on her own always ready to go after the ball whenever it is launched clear one on one with Hope as the keeper comes to the top of the area a crunching 50/50 between the pair the ball could have gone anywhere runs out for a goalkick wide of goal as Hope picks herself up. Smith with the ball fr Newmarket forwards for Kirby, Pepper sliding in to tackle for ICA Sports. Into stoppage time all Newmarket, Knibbs claiming the cross has collected everything Newmarket have played into her box. ICA Sports standing firm right to the final whistle celebrate as they win the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup for the first time.

Have seen Newmarket several times this season, and they don’t need me to tell them they can play better. Finals can do that sometimes, have seen it for whatever reason you just don’t have the performance you know you’re capable of there on the day. Disappointment for Newmarket, however take nothing away from ICA Sports Ladies fully deserving of their success came with a plan and executed it perfectly, getting in front early and working hard as a unit to frustrate and prevent opportunities for their opponents. Defending resolutely at times got up the other end to score a 2nd goal wanted the clean sheet up the other end. One final won another to come.

Women’s Football East – Player of the Match

A tough one this evening singling out just one player for the Women’s Football East – Player of the Match award. It was a good solid all round team performance from ICA Sports. Lorna Hart leading the line well backed up by Donna Nicholls. At the back Steph Pepper put in some terrific tackles to prevent Newmarket’s attackers running through on goal. Sarah Rouse in midfield breaking up play along side Jess Farchina, excellent in disrupting Newmarket’s flow especially 1st half and with a great strike to score ICA Sports 2nd goal I have chosen Jess Farchina.

Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup Winners 2017/18, ICA Sports Ladies

Congratulations to ICA Sports Ladies on winning this season’s Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup.

My thanks to both sides for there help with the teams this evening. Thanks to Chris Abbott to for asking me to present the players their awards it was an honour one I certainly wasn’t expecting. Back to Ely again tomorrow for my 3rd final of the week the Division One Cup Final.

Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup

The Fulbourn Recreation Ground played host to the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup semi-finals this weekend. Newmarket Town Ladies were playing Cambridge University Women who had knocked out Premiership leaders Netherton United Ladies earlier in the competition. Newmarket Town started well taking an early lead in the match Abbi Griffin scoring in the 6th minute, further chances followed the lead doubled in the 26th minute Jordanne Sillitoe on target to make it 2-0, a 3rd goal quickly following Amanda Stacey heading home from a corner kick. A good first half for Newmarket another goal late in the half from Sillitoe putting them in complete control of the semi-final. Cambridge University pulled a goal back early in the 2nd half capitalising on a mistake at the back. 4-1 the score right up until the final minute of the match Chloe Slater making it 5-1 to see Newmarket into the League Cup Final.

The other League Cup semi-final was again an all Premiership tie with ICA Sports Ladies taking on St Ives Town Ladies who would have started as slight favourites 2nd in the league with just one defeat. ICA Sports Ladies however have picked up some good results themselves this season and have improved well as the season has gone on. A closer tie a single goal enough to win the game coming in the second half. Lorna Hart the goalscorer as ICA Sports Ladies beat St Ives Town 1-0 to reach the League Cup Final.

The League Cup Final between ICA Sports Ladies & Newmarket Town Ladies scheduled to be played on Wednesday 2nd May with a 7:30pm kick-off and Ely City FC.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership

3 games in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership this Sunday with another double header taking place to ease fixture congestion. The local derby between March Town United Ladies and Park Ladies. 6 points up for grabs March Town took full advantage beating their local rivals twice 3-1 in both matches the 6 point haul enough to move them up a place in the table into 5th spot. Charley Miller, Adele Munday and Shannon Shaw getting the goals in one of March Town’s 3-1 victories. Shaw on target again in the other match grabbing herself a brace with Ella Nutter also getting her name on the scoresheet.

Cambridge City Ladies Development were involved in a double header with Park 3 weeks ago picking up all 6 points themselves this Sunday they were hosting the Premiership leaders, Netherton United Ladies. A brace from midfielder Rachel Pearce and with a goal each for Molly White and Yasmin Crow seeing Cambridge City earn the 3 points as they ran out 4-0 winners. A 3rd defeat of the season now for Netherton United Ladies after a great start to the season, encouraging for 2nd and 3rd placed St Ives Town Ladies and Newmarket Town Ladies who both have games in hand came both overhaul Netherton United if they win those matches.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Junior Invitation Cup

One outstanding quarter final left to play in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Junior Invitation Cup an all Championship South tie with Isleham United Ladies hosting Cambridge Rangers on Sunday. And it’s the hosts that progress to the last 4 of the competition with a 4-1 victory. A brace for Vicky Beeton along with goals for Louise Harwood and Nicole Bailey setting up a semi-final against fellow Championship South side, Newmarket Town Ladies Reserves.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Division One Cup

Two matches from the Group stage of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Division Cup this Sunday both in Group C. Wisbech Town Ladies going top of the 4 team table with their 2nd win in the competition, at home playing Hungate Rovers Ladies, goals from Faye Kowalewsky and Annie Rooks seeing them win the match 2-1. A positive result in their final match against Orton Rangers Ladies with ensure Wisbech Town top the group and advance to the knockout stage of the competition.

Orton Rangers Ladies themselves were hosting Wisbech St Mary Ladies on Sunday in Group C the visitors having just 10 players available were held to a goalless score at half-time before going on to take control of the game in the 2nd half Amy Magnus getting herself a hat-trick, with a goal each for Ellena Bennington and Abi Roach-Smith in a 5-0 win.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership

After suffering their 1st league defeat of the season last Sunday Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership leaders, Netherton United Ladies were looking to put things right at home on Sunday as they hosted Cambridge City Ladies Development in the only match taking place in the league this weekend. A great start for Netherton as they opened the scoring in the 5th minute Emily Johnson scoring. Midway through the 1st half the lead was doubled with Yasmin Green making it 2-0. Johnson getting her 2nd of the game just 4 minutes later to put Netherton into a strong 3-0 lead at half-time. It was 4-0 2 minutes into the 2nd half Netherton awarded a penalty Green stepping up to score. Cambridge City pulled it back to 4-1 in the 57th minute adding a 2nd goal in the last minute, Morgan Want and Charlotte Vaskin scoring their goals. Netherton once again opening up a 9 point lead at the top of the Premiership table.

Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup

Elsewhere it was quarter finals day in the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup. In the only all Premiership tie St Ives Town Ladies were on home soil facing March Town United Ladies. In great form St Ives proved to strong an opponent as they reached the semi-finals of the competition with a convincing win. Georgia Stancombe netting 5 goals in the game for St Ives. Hannah Seymour-Shove also getting herself a brace with Katherine Speed also on target in an 8-0 win.

Newmarket Town Ladies were away in the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup quarter finals taking on Championship South side Isleham United Ladies. Laura Bailey put through on goal to score the opening goal for Newmarket. Chloe Slater doubling the advantage. Abbi Griffin also scoring a brace in the match with Bailey getting another goal to her name. Jess Linger completing the goalscorers, Newmarket progressing to the semi-finals with a 6-0 victory.

Championship North leaders, Wisbech St Mary Ladies came into this weekends League Cup quarter final tie in confident form as they hosted Premiership side Cambridge University Women who themselves had knocked out Netherton United Ladies in the previous round. The hosts scored twice with Carlie Knight and Lauren Lewis getting the goals. Cambridge University scoring 2 goals in the 1st half with Amanda Wainwright netting both. The visitors starting the 2nd half strongly Lili Donlon-Mansbridge and Fiona Conlon scoring within 5 minutes of the restart. Donlon-Mansbridge adding another goal on the hour with Wainwright going on to get her hat-trick in the 84th minute. Cambridge University Women winning 6-2 to reach the semi-finals.

Is an all Premiership line-up in the semi-finals of the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup too with ICA Sports Ladies also progressing although they were run all the way to penalties by Championship South title chasers, Histon Ladies Reserves. The visitors leading 1-0 at half-time Philippa Hayden-Evans with the goal. Megan Purnell equalising for ICA Sports in the 2nd half. The tie needing to be decided from the penalty spot ICA Sports edged the shootout 3-2 to progress.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South

One match played in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South on Sunday with leaders Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds opening up a 3 point lead at the top of the table over Histon Ladies Reserves with a big home win over bottom side Burwell Tigers. Ebony Rule scoring a hat-trick for Fulbourn on her return to the side. Stacey Kemp and Marie Stubbings both netting a brace, there were goals too for Yasmine Upson, Sarah Green, Seema Grewal, Katie Luddy and Sharon Pinner an own goal too seeing Fulbourn win 13-1. Megan Seabrook-Mead with the goal for Burwell.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Division One Cup

A new competition in Cambridgeshire this season which as of yet I know very little about except as the name suggests the Division One Cup which in this case is the Championship North and South. Two 1st Round ties were played at the weekend. An all Championship South tie saw Cambridge Rangers Women hosting St Ives Town Ladies Development. The visitors progressing into the next round winning by a single goal captain Georgia Rebane the scorer for St Ives.

The other 1st Round tie saw an all Championship North tie with Ketton Ladies at home to Pinchbeck United Ladies on Sunday. 2nd in the league Ketton reaching the next round comfortably with a 10-1 win.

Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup

This weekend in Cambridgeshire the woman’s football action was largely focused on the League Cup with 8 ties from the 2nd Round taking place the 16 sides vying for a place in the quarter finals.

Last season’s beaten finalists were at home in the 2nd Round in an all Premiership clash Netherton United Ladies hosting Cambridge University Women. A close contest the sides both scoring in the regular 90 minutes Emily Johnson for Netherton as early as the 8th minute. Cambridge University levelling the scores the tie headed into extra-time the visitors going on the score the winning goal and progress.

Another all Premiership clash saw St Ives Town Ladies paired with Cambridge City Ladies Development in the 2nd Round of the League Cup. A 3rd all Premiership tie in the 2nd Round of the League Cup saw Park Ladies drawn at home to Newmarket Town Ladies. The visitors reaching the quarter finals scoring 6 goals with 6 different names on the scoresheet. Cindy Ponder Antonia Smith Sarah O’Rourke, Chloe Slater, Amanda Stacey and Brooke Wickens. The final score 6-1.

Elsewhere their were no banana skins for the other Premiership sides left in the competition both March Town United Ladies and ICA Sports Ladies at home to Championship opponents. A big win for March Town United hosting St Ives Town Ladies new Development side. Shannon Shaw netting a hat-trick in the match there were braces for both Shannon Kelly and Emma Frost. With Charley Miller Lyndsey Churchyard and Naomi McGarvie all getting a goal each in a 10-2 win. Jade Carpenter and Megan Stow both scoring in the 2nd half for St Ives Town.

ICA Sports Ladies were hosting Wisbech Town Ladies in the 2nd Round of the League Cup the Championship North side having started the season well. The Premiership side proving too strong however running out 5-1 winners, thanks to goals from, Jessica Farchica Hayley Jones, Megan Purnell and a brace from Donna Nicholls. Sophie Gutteridge getting the goal for Wisbech Town.

Three 2nd Round ties in the League Cup pitting Championship sides against each other. South v North in 2 ties with Isleham United Ladies hosting Hungate Rovers Ladies not much separating the sides a single goal winning the tie for Isleham United Rachael Turner with the match winner.

Fulbourn Bluebirds were hosting Wisbech St Mary Ladies a good contest between the sides 5 goals in the match the win going to the visitors as Wisbech St Mary Ladies edged it 3-2 to reach the quarter finals. Lauren Laws netting 2 goals with Amy Magnus also getting a goal. Joanne Woods scoring both of the goals for Fulbourn.

In the all Championship South tie it was an early kick off on Sunday with Cambridge Rangers hosting league leaders Histon Ladies Reserves the visitors carrying on their great league form into the cup reaching the quarter finals with a 3-1 victory. Amanda Binge scoring twice, with Philippa Hayden-Evans also getting a goal.

Cambridge City Ladies Development picked up their 2nd win from 3 games at the weekend to climb into 2nd spot in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership. Were away to Cambridge University Women who were stating their season. 3-0 the score goals from Erin Fox, Molly White and Ellie Cullum securing the 3 points for last season’s Championship South Champion’s.

Park Ladies were away to ICA Sports Ladies in the Premiership on Sunday both sides looking for their 1st league win of the season. Park held a 2-1 lead going into the half-time break, Amy Newell scoring both their goals. 2nd half ICA Sports Ladies turned it around getting back on level terms then going on to score the winning goal take all 3 points with a 3-2 win. Carmen Herridge, captain Becky Shields and a penalty from Claire Knibbs giving the Peterborough based side their 1st win.

Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup

Elsewhere across Cambridgeshire there were 4 ties played in the 1st Round of the League Cup and it was a huge win for Premiership side Newmarket Town Ladies away to new Championship South side Burwell Tigers. Not the record scoreline brought to you in a Round-Up but very close. A strong side in for Newmarket fired 30 goals in on Sunday! Sarah O’Rourke sweeping ahead in the top goal scorer stakes as she got 8 of that total. Both Laura Bailey and Abbie Marshall equalled that with 4 each. Brooke Wickens and Abbi Griffin both getting hat-tricks. Lauren Deller, Cindy Ponder and Antonia Smith getting a brace each. Goals too for Jess Linger and goalkeeper Eloise Hope. A hard one for Burwell Tigers young side, hopefully Newmarket have a few goals left for their much tougher FA Women’s Cup game this Sunday.

Wasn’t such good news for Newmarket Town Ladies Reserves hosting Premiership side St Ives Town Ladies in the 1st Round of the League Cup. The higher league opposition too strong advance to the next round. A brace a piece for Amy and Hannah Seymour-Shove. Goals too for Katie Stancombe, Tierney Coulson and Connie Liddiard in a 7-0 win.

Wisbech Town Ladies had met Ketton Ladies away from home in the league just the previous week now they were at home in the League Cup a 3-1 win to Wisbech Town Ladies last Sunday they maintained their excellent start to the season with a comfortable result to advance in the competition. A hat-trick by Chloe Riches, along with a brace for current top scorer Sophie Gutteridge along with a goal for Jasmine Luckett seeing Wisbech win 6-0.

Finally it was a tie from two sides finally getting their season started a new look Milton Ladies side hosting St Ives Town Ladies new Development side. A 2-0 lead for the visitors at the half-time whistle, Chloe Stefanelli and Georgina Astley with the goals for St Ives Town. Dominated the 2nd half scoring 6 more goals to win their 1st ever game 8-0. Astley with her 2nd making it 3-0, Jade Carpenter then hit a brace. Drew Jenkins, Megan Stow and Olivia Baker all getting on the scoresheet in the last 10 minutes.

A brace for Sasha Haw giving Netherton a 2-0 half-time lead the advantage was doubled in the 2nd half goals from Alice MacNichol in the last 15 minutes and Emily Johnson securing the points with a 4-0 win.

Newmarket Town Ladies go 2nd in the table as they won their 2nd match in the Premiership to keep up their own 100% winning start. Away to ICA Sports Ladies. A big win at home for St Ives Town ladies saw them win their 1st league game of the season were at home to Park Ladies. Amy Seymour-Shove netting 4 times in the game. Battle between the top two in the Cambridgeshire Championship North on Sunday with leaders Wisbech Town Ladies away to 2nd placed Ketton Ladies both winning their 2 opening matches in contrasting fashion, Wisbech Town hitting 32 goals without reply in their 2 games, Ketton clinching a narrow win against Hungate Rovers home and away to get their 6 points. A closer game for Wisbech Town this time around Wisbech Town ending Ketton’s winning start beating them by 3 goals to 1 to move onto 9 points 3 clear at the top of the table. 2 more goals for striker Sophie Gutteridge along with a strike from Shushannah Feast.

Starting the season with 2 narrow defeats against Ketton Ladies, Hungate Rovers Ladies were away to new side Pinchbeck United Ladies at the weekend. Kelsey McKenna found the back of the net scoring 7 goals in the game for Hungate Rovers. Lauren Barnes scoring a brace with Bianca Taylor also grabbing herself a goal in a 10-0 win that see Hungate Rovers up to 3rd with the sides below playing less games.

Just the one match played in the Championship South at the weekend 3rd placed Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds at home to 2nd placed Cambridge Rangers Women both starting the season with a win. Early days in the league a handful of games played 2 sides yet to get off the mark. Marie Stubbings was on target scoring 5 goals for Fulbourn with Emma Clark and Yasmine Upson getting a goal a piece to see Fulbourn win 7-1 and move to the top of the table.

Netherton United Ladies came back from a goal down to win 3-1 to make it 2 wins from 2 at the top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership at a local derby match at home to ICA Sports Ladies it was the visitors who took an early lead Clare Knibbs putting ICA Sports 1-0 up in the 9th minute. Held onto that lead for almost an hour before Netherton found a reply captain Megan Parrett levelling the scores for Netherton. Soon after ICA Sports were reduced to 10 Donna Nicholls sent off. A player advantage Netherton went on to take the lead with 15 minutes left, Yasmin Green scoring. Parrett making sure of the 3 points scoring her 2nd of the game with a couple of minutes left.

Promoted as Championship South Champions last season Cambridge City Ladies Development started the new season in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership away to Park Ladies. Erin Fox netting a brace for the visitors there were goals to for Rachel Pearce, Molly White and Morgan Want in a 5-0 victory.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North

In the Championship North, Wisbech Town Ladies have scored a whopping 32 goals in their opening two games without reply to lead the table. 14-0 last weekend to Orton Rangers were at home this Sunday to new side Pinchbeck United Ladies a tough beginning for the young side. Sophie Gutteridge scoring a double hat-trick last Sunday went one better this time around netting 7 times. Chloe Riches also claiming 4 goals to her name with Annie Rooks grabbing a hat-trick. Faye Kowalewsky scoring twice along with a goal for both Kaylie Swinden and Katie Garner in a crushing 18-0 scoreline.

Keeping up with Wisbech Town Ladies with points gained if not goals scored are Ketton Ladies 2 wins from 2 as they edged out Hungate Rovers Ladies in a close game for the 2nd successive weekend winning 4-3 on their patch last weekend Ketton travelling to Hungate this time around. The score 3-2 to Ketton this time around.

Lauren Laws scored 5 goals for Wisbech St Mary Ladies as they began their season at home to newcomers Spalding United Ladies on Sunday. Carlie Knight, Megan Ratcliffe and Abi Roach-Smith also getting a goal for Wisbech St Mary in their opening game the 8-0 putting them into 3rd position.

In the Championship South, 2 wins from 2 for Histon Ladies Reserves sees them lead the way. Only one game played in the league on Sunday. Histon travelling to play Isleham United Ladies. The Round-Up generally covers all the action from the previous Sunday however at this time of year as clubs and the county FA’s try to get all their fixtures played we can have football all over the place so this edition of the Cambridgeshire Round-Up starts Friday night with Cambridge United WFC Reserves playing Netherton United Ladies in the League Cup Final. Netherton United reaching their 1st ever final, Cambridge United WFC Reserves into their 3rd successive final looking to win it this time around and complete a cup double after winning the Junior Invitation Cup the week before.

The sides 1st and 2nd in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership looked fairly evenly matched in the early exchanges Cambridge holding a deep line inviting Netherton on left room at the back, goalkeeper Katie Cooper showing early on she was prepared to come racing out of her box if necessary. Cambridge took the lead from a corner kick Liz Pamplin header going back across goal headed home by Ebony Rule at the near post. Her strike partner Lauren Gibson made it 2-0 as she took the ball past the onrushing Cooper at the top of her area then keeping her composure picked her spot to make it 2-0. Netherton pushed early on for a reply to try and get back into the game risked getting caught at the back, and it was Cambridge who went on to extend their lead from another corner substitute Faith Hewitt heading the ball down towards the far post Rule on hand to bundle the ball home for her 2nd of the game Cambridge winning the League Cup Final 3-0.

Cambridge United WFC Reserves aren’t just settled for a cup double however they are looking to make it a treble with the league title aswell were in action again just last night. However before then the action from Sunday, just the one league game in the Premiership with Cambridge University Women at home to ICA Sports Ladies. Amanda Wainwright hit a hat-trick in the game with Maude Gibbins scoring a brace, Sophia D’Angelo also getting a goal in a 6-2 win, Carmen Herridge scoring both goals for ICA Sports Ladies. The 3 points moving Cambridge University 3rd spot above Newmarket Town Ladies both on 24 points along with 2nd placed Netherton United. St Ives Town Ladies were awarded the home win against Bar Hill Ladies.

Pressure on the Round-Up with a match on a Tuesday night, the Supporting Women’s Football Blog off to Newmarket to watch them take on leaders Cambridge United WFC Reserves. A win for Newmarket Town would put them 2 points above Cambridge United, a win for the away side however would see them go 4 points clear at the top of the table. Sun cream needed on Sunday it was positively freezing at the Rigdeons Stadium with a hailstorm prior to the match. A new challenge too for the match notes Cambridge United having picked up their new shirts had no numbers printed upon the back, goo job I’d seen them 4 days ago.

Newmarket had the opportunity to take the lead in the opening 10 minutes the referee spotting an infringement inside the box pointing to the penalty spot. Cindy Ponder firing her shot straight at Sarah Carroll the goalkeeper holding onto the ball. Midway through the 1st half Cambridge took the lead themselves Lauren Gibson heading home from a corner kick, then 5 minutes before half time turned home a superb effort from the top of the area. 2-0 the advantage at half-time Newmarket pressed for a reply only for Gibson to go on and complete her hat-trick running onto Tahnee Perfect’s ball into the area to slide it past the keeper. In the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North leaders March Town United Ladies keep their lead at the top to 6 points after coming from 2-0 down away to P&L Motors Diamonds with 25 minutes left to win the game 3-2. Emma Searle scoring from a 25 yard free-kick pulled it back to 2-1 then Shannon Kelly lobbing the keeper brought it back to 2-2 then in the last 5 minutes, Pollyanna Harvey flicked the ball home scoring the winning goal seeing March Town United return home with all the points.

Swineshead Institute Ladies remain March Town United’s closest rivals as they won at home taking on 2nd bottom Hungate Rovers Ladies on Sunday Ellie Spendlow scoring twice with a goal a piece for Leah Ardron, Kirsty Hewitt and Gabrielle Smith in a 5-0 victory.

Wisbech Town Ladies are 2 points further back in 3rd place in the Championship North table as they came out on top of the Wisbech derby at home to Wisbech St Mary Ladies on Sunday. A brace from Sophie Gutteridge taking her onto 22 goals for the season sealing the 3 points. An injury for Wisbech St Mary’s player Annalise Scales who broke her leg in the game, Women’s Football East wishes her a full and speedy recovery.

Ketton Ladies moved up to 4th position in the table as they edged out Boston United Ladies at home 3-2 on Sunday. Ketton were in action at home again last night hosting P&L Motors Diamonds the visitors beating Ketton soundly 10-1 under the lights.

In the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South Champions, Cambridge City Ladies Development were away to bottom side Orton Rangers Ladies on Sunday. The home side scoring twice in the 1st half Cambridge City matching them before going on to win 5-2 in the 2nd half, Amy Reed scoring a hat-trick, with a brace for Rachel Littlewood. The win seeing Cambridge City end their season unbeaten in the league on 40 points just the 2 points dropped aswell as runners-up in the Junior Invitation Cup a great 1st season.

Fulbourn Bluebirds in 4th position in the Championship South table close the gap to 3rd placed Milton Ladies to just a point with a good away result to Isleham United Ladies on Sunday. Sharon Pinner getting a hat-trick along with a goal each for Emma Clark and Sarah Gee in a 5-0 win.

Also at Fulbourn on the adjacent pitch the other Cambridgeshire League Cup Final was taking place with Cambridge United WFC Reserves aiming to reach their 4th successive final taking on St Ives Town Ladies aiming to reach their 1st formed just 2 seasons ago. After the 90 minutes it was Cambridge United who were celebrating winning the game 2-0 with goals from Ebony Rule and Carolyn Sarafain.

It was to the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North that the Supporting Women’s Football Blog’s latest match report came from, unbeaten league leaders, March Town United Ladies hosting Wisbech Town Ladies in a local derby the visitors finding some form coming into the game 3 successive league wins lifting them up into 3rd spot in the table. A competitve derby match Wisbech Town started well pressuring March for the ball, awarded a free-kick midway through the 1st half it was a great strike from Wisbech captain, Emily Stephenson to send the ball arrowing towards goal over the keeper and in to give the visitors the lead.

The semi-finals for this season’s Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup are known after the last 2 remaining quarter final ties were played this Sunday. Cambridge United WFC Reserves were hosting local rivals Cambridge University Women often a close game between the 2 sides this game was no different just the one goal settling the tie and it was scored by Cambridge United WFC Reserves, Lucy Gateson to put them into the last 4 of the competition along with Netherton United Ladies and Bar Hill Ladies.

Making up the last 4 of the league cup is another Premiership side, St Ives Town Ladies hosting Championship North side P&L Motors Diamonds goals from Connie Liddiard, Hannah Seymour-Shove, Georgia Stancombe and Amy Seymour-Shove saw St Ives Town into the semi-finals with a 4-2 win.

In the Championship North leaders March Town United Ladies extended their lead at the top of the table to 6 points keeping up their 100% league record with a 7th win on Sunday were at home playing Hungate Rovers Ladies. A single goal enough for March Town United to claim all 3 points Shannon Kelly putting the ball into the back of the net.

A few more goals seen between Ketton Ladies and Swineshead Institute Ladies at the weekend the two sides playing out a 9 goal thriller it was hoe side Ketton who edged it in the end taking the 3 points with a 5-4 win that sees them leap up the Championship North table from 5th spot into 2nd.

Another big mover in the Championship North table after the weekends results are Wisbech Town Ladies at home to bottom side Thurlby Tigers won the match 5-0 the victory lifting them up from 7th place into 4th.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South

In the Championship South league leaders Cambridge City Ladies Development squad remain unbeaten recording their 10th win from 11 games played to lead the table by 12 points. Were away this Sunday playing Fulbourn Bluebirds. Kayleigh Whitehead opened the scoring for Cambridge City sending a shot from range over the keeper to make it 1-0 the lead 2-0 at half-time Tegan Wyman getting the goal 5 minutes before the break. The visitors extended the lead 10 minutes into the 2nd half Ellie Geoghan with the goal, Erin Fox making it 4-0 with just over 20 minutes left to see the points won.

Milton Ladies climb back up into 2nd place in the Championship South table with a double figure win away to bottom side Orton Rangers Ladies at the weekend. Sam Cousins netting herself a hat-trick there were braces too for Lucie Buekova, Dora Dixon and Rebekah Finch with Alana Lander also on target along with an OG to see Milton win 11-1.

4th placed Isleham United Ladies were away on Sunday morning playing Cambridge Rangers. Laura Todd scoring 2 goals in the match with Lily Turner and Louisa Harwood also getting on the scoresheet in a 4-0 win.
