Like the other county leagues across the East there was a limited fixture list in Essex this Easter Sunday. In the Essex Women’s Premier Division there were 2 matches played. 3rd placed Chelmsford City Ladies were away to bottom side Walden Ladies, despite conceding twice the visitors won the games 4-2 with Tyler Christou hitting a brace along with a goal a piece for Mia Brisley and Shannon Hughes. Tiptree & District Women’s Charity Cup
Having missed out on a place in the League Cup Final last weekend, Lawford Ladies were aiming to reach the final of the Tiptree & District Women’s Charity Cup where their opponents would be Harlow Town Ladies the cup holders. In their way were Essex Division One side Frontiers Ladies, Essex Women’s Trophy winners unbeaten in the league, the visitors scored 3 goals with Jill Bartholomew, Sharon Ferguson and Shannon Hardinges all on target, Lawford however responded with double the goals to win the game 6-3 to book their spot in the final, date and venue to be announced.
A week after Thorpe United Ladies beat 2nd placed King’s Lynn Town Ladies 4-3 to go 4 points clear at the top of Norfolk Women’s Division One the two sides met again this time at the Thorpe Recreation Ground a chance for Thorpe United to go further clear of for King’s Lynn to restore the gap between the 2 to a point. Defender Albany Hodgson put King’s Lynn into the lead in the 1st half scoring her 1st goal for the club. That joy was short lived however as Hodgson gave away a penalty up the other end, Laura Hedtke stepping up to score the equaliser for Thorpe United. 1-1 at half-time neither side could find a winning goal 2nd half and had to settle for a share of the points.
A look at the Division One table and you might say, “Hang on Thorpe United are leading the way by 10 points?” This is because Thorpe United have had several games called off this season 7 in all two of these against Kirkley & Pakefield FC Ladies and they have now both been awarded as home wins by the NWGFL committee. King’s Lynn still have 2 games in hand on Thorpe the gap can be reduced to 4 points once again.
Bungay Town Ladies in 3rd place in the Division One table have been unbeaten so far in 2017 in both league and cup, that record was finally brought to an end on Sunday as they travelled to 6th placed Aylsham FC Ladies, the two sides always sharing a good rivalry the match was won by a single goal, Leanne Ferdani scoring in the 1st half for Aylsham to secure the 3 points.

Team’s are playing out their fixtures across the ERWFL and the finish to the Premier Division title race could well be going right to the wire. Have been talking it up on The Round-Up for a few editions now and the scenario for a final day show down between Haringey Borough Women and Acle United Ladies is a reality. It was a simple scenario for both as thing’s started to evolve win all your remaining games and you win the title.
Haringey Borough Women were at home on Sunday taking on bottom side in the ERWFL Premier Division, Histon Ladies needing the points themselves if they want to overhaul Colchester Town Ladies 4 points above them having played all their fixtures. In 2nd Haringey Borough had the opportunity to move above Bedford Ladies kill off their faint hopes of the title after they ended the campaign on 40 points. A hat-trick from Julia Carruthers plus a brace for Klesha Darroux takes both onto 19 goals for the season. Anele Komani also netting a brace in the game with Karesha Iton also scoring her 1st goal of the season in an 8-0 victory taking Haringey top on goal difference with one more home game to come.
Acle United Ladies were as low as 8th in the table with games in hand when the scenario that if they were to win all those matches they would win the title themselves. Have done so each win taking them a little closer to the dream, in 4th place were playing Royston Town Ladies for the 2nd successive Sunday winning the home fixture 3-1 were away this time around. Despite a few early chances for Acle United it was Royston Town who opened the scoring on 20 minutes with Stephanie Hicks putting the ball home. The lead lasted just 6 minutes as Broghan Scully recently returning to Acle United after a spell with Lowestoft Town Ladies turned a Megan Todd ball back across goal into the back of the net. Todd herself scoring 6 minutes later to give Acle United the lead. 2-1 the advantage at half-time, Acle United couldn’t find another goal to kill off the game until the 3rd minute of added time, Jade Copeman introduced in the 85th minute scoring to see Acle United seal a 3-1. You can read Acle United Ladies match report from the game by clicking on the link below.
The 3 points taking Acle United Ladies above AFC Dunstable Ladies into 3rd spot on 38 points 2 behind Haringey Borough Women, have a game in hand this Wednesday away to Histon Ladies an 8:00pm kick-off at the Glassworld Stadium, win that and Acle United will go top of the Premier Division for the 1st time this season. Setting up a final day showdown between themselves and Haringey Borough a winner takes all match doesn’t come any bigger. The very best of luck to both sides… I will be there to see how the drama unfolds.

They left it extremely late however to maintain their unbeaten league record at Cheshunt FC on Sunday at home to their closest rivals in the battle for the top Cardiff City Ladies.

Leading the way by a massive 11 points now with 4 left to play only Cardiff City Ladies can catch them now a win however would end even their slim title hopes and see Tottenham Hotspur Ladies crowned Champions.
Crystal Palace Ladies have almost certainly clinched 5th spot in the FAWPL Southern Division following promotion last season.
