That’s it then the last games have been played across the East and we arrive here at the final edition of this seasons The Tuesday Round-Up. Started it this season with a view to giving women’s football more coverage in the region and basically as it says in the title try and ‘Round’ thing’s up in one place as much as possible and boy can it be a challenge sometimes rounding it all up, alot to cover and sometimes I really think I’ve taken on more than I can chew but I get through and am pleased to know it’s appreciated. Try to mention as many goalscorers as I can. May well have a little tweak with the Round-Up next season but for now we have one last Edition to bring you for the 2015/16 season and I said it would be a special one, after all we know who’s won what now been a thrilling and entertaining season and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, even the wet bits. A fantastic season to watch and be part of have really enjoyed my football this season and covering it for Women’s Football east and the Supporting Women’s Football Blog, would do more if I could. Of course it won’t work without you, the players the coaches the volunteers the fans so a massive thank you for what you do and providing such great entertainment and action week in week out whatever the weather although that has featured a bit too much this season.
Not quite over of course one more massive game to come FAWPL Southern Division Champions, Brighton & Hove Albion WFC in action on Sunday in the FAWPL Play-off game against Sporting Club Albion the Northern Division Champions a chance to reach the FAWSL beckons for the winner, and naturally Women’s Football East will be supporting Brighton so best of luck to everyone at the club. Plenty of pictures posted above but there’s room for a few more so if you want to you’re one of those Champions or Cup Winners without a pick send it to me and I’ll see it’s added. So for one last time this season thanks for reading The Tuesday Round-Up and I look forwards to doing it all again next season.
The season is almost at an end a cross the East a much smaller edition of The Tuesday Round-Up to bring you just a dozen games to write about across the region as side play out there league campaigns a couple of league titles still to be decided and in others final position. Another Cup Final too.
FAWPL Southern Division
One game left to play in the FAWPL Southern Division, for 5th placed Coventry United Ladies a win would lift them above Portsmouth FC Ladies into 4th, 3rd placed Cardiff City Ladies were the visitors. Nikki Miles gave Coventry United Ladies the perfect start putting them 1-0 up inside the opening 3 minutes. Held on to the goal advantage until half-time before Libby Piggott added a 2nd goal 3 minutes into the 2nd half to secure the victory and see Coventry United Ladies clim a place. Conceding just 18 goals in the league throughout the season theirs is the best defensive record.
Elsewhere in the FAWPL, Sporting Club Albion Ladies have won the Northern Division title and will play Southern Division Champions, Brighton & Hove Albion WFC in the FAWSL Play-off match on Sunday 29th May at Adams Park, home of Wycombe Wanderers and Reading FC Women. This match also has bearing on the relegation places because if Brighton & Hove Albion WFC win the game and are promoted to the FAWSL, 2nd bottom Forest Green Rovers Ladies will remain in the league, just as Newcastle United WFC did last season in the Northern Division when Sheffield FC Ladies went up.
FAWPL South East Division One
Having seen their penultimate league game at home against Old Actonians Ladies postponed in mid-week, Gillingham FC Ladies travelled up to Norfolk on Sunday knowing a win would see them finish as runner-up in the FAWPL South East Division One, playing Norwich City Ladies the visitors were in determined mood to finish the season strongly. Emma Tune opened the scoring on 26 minutes for Gillingham, then Kallie Balfour netted a minute later and went on to score a 12 minute hat-trick putting Gillingham 4-0 to the good at the break, same tune 2nd half (sorry) Balfour scoring her 2nd hat-trick of the match in a 10 minute burst this time Tune getting another goal 2 during that spell as Gillingham ran out 8-0 winners, play their rearranged game with Old Actonians Ladies on Thursday.
Ipswich Town Ladies have had an excellent 2nd half to their season, two more games left in the league a top half finish is guaranteed get to wins and they could pip Cambridge United WFC to 5th spot. Were away on Sunday playing the side directly below them Enfield Town Ladies. The home side took a 3-0 lead, Cally Browne, Nuala McKevitt and Sheryce Slater all getting a goal, but Ipswich Town Ladies thought back scoring through captain Amanda Crump, with Molly Hall also on target with a brace from Natasha Thomas seeing them win the game 4-3
Old Actonians Ladies have been slowly catching up with their league fixtures a busy spell owards the end of the season, have secured their FAWPL status for another season Sunday saw them at bottom side Bedford Ladies to play a double header. Bedford Ladies captain Rebecca Vass scored twice one from the penalty spot the other open play to see them win only their 2nd game of the season. In the 2nd game Old Actonians Ladies took the lead, Kaiya Glynn pulled the scores level but they went down to a late goal to lose the 2nd match 2-1.
Eastern Regional Leagues
Just the one league game left across the ERWFL in Division One West bottom side Colney Heath Ladies were hosting Hoddesdon Owls Ladies for the 2nd successive Sunday, winning last weekends encounter 5-0 another win would see the climb off the foot of the table having been there all season. The 1st half saw 2 goals scored late on, Hoddesdon taking the lead on 40 minutes Kristina O’Connell netting the goal. In 1st half injury time Holly Sheridan got it back to 1-1. Colney Heath Ladies then took the lead a minute into the 2nd half Kirsty Feasey with the goal. Went 3-1 up on 52 minutes Sophie Joseph getting the goal. Hoddesdon pulled a goal back late on Becky Scola scoring but it wasn’t enough as Colney Heath Ladies win to lift themselves off the foot of the table.
That saw Sawbridgeworth Town WFC finish bottom and more bad news was to follow as the club announced on Twitter it was being folded, an established women’s football club always sad to here and Women’s Football East wishes everyone involved at the club all the best hope to see Sawbridgeworth back in the women’s game in the not to distant future.
Norfolk
One game left in Norfolk across the 3 leagues, in Division One a potential title deciding game, Wymondham Town Ladies held top spot by 3 points weren’t in action this Sunday 2nd placed Thorpe United Ladies were away to 4th placed Aylsham FC Ladies, was a ig ask to take the title a win by 5 clear goals was needed on the day. Had beaten Aylsham in the County Cup Final, however Aylsham were on a high having recently won the League Cup with a last gasp winner. Have a goal scorer in top form this season Abbie Charlton see added 4 more to her tally on Sunday to make her the leagues top goal scorer, Leanne Woodward scored twice with Sophie Burr-Walpole also scoring as they won by 5 clear goals beating Thorpe United Ladies 7-2 their goals coming from Hayley Kindred and captain Rebekah Lake meaning Wymondham Town Ladies were crowned Champions.
Congratulations to Wymondham Town Ladies on winning the Norfolk Women’s Division One title.
Cambridgeshire
Cambridge City Ladies were already Champions of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship with one match left to play were at Bar Hill Ladies to complete the Premiership fixtures on Sunday. Won the game 7-2 with goals from Emily Bevens, Izzy Broadbent, Ellie Geoghan and Carla Penny with Grace Stanley scoring a brace plus an own goal. Bar Hill Ladies end the season in 4th place their goal scorers, Maya Holmdahi and Anna Jephson.
Two matches left to complete in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North and one was settled without a ball being kicked. Swineshead Institute Ladies being awarded the win against bottom side Tydd St Mary Ladies to see them finish 5th in their 1st season together. In the other game 2nd bottom Hungate Rovers Ladies were away playing Downham Town Ladies who had slipped down the table at the end unable to play fixtures conceding games. Mustered up 8 players to face Hungate at the weekend. The visitiors taking full advantage to end their season with a win Jade Chamberlain claiming 4 goals with Amelia Rees and Terri-Ann Moeser also on target and own goal adding to the scoreline as they beat Downham Town 7-2 their goals from Chelsea Thomason and Katy Walkey.
In other title battle to be decided in the region this Sunday was in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South with both leaders Park Ladies and 2nd placed St Ives Town Ladies in contention for the crown both playing their 1st season. A point the difference St Ives Town Ladies should have been playing bottom side Cambridge Rangers in an 11am kick-off it didn’t happen St Ives Town Ladies awarded the away win moved 2 point ahead of Park Ladies who were away playing Riverside Rovers Reserves nothing less than a win would do. Any nerves were erased as they took control of the match leading 3-0 at half-time added another goal in the 2nd half, Erin Powell getting herself a hat-trick with Casey Ward helping herself to a goal 4-0 the final score Park Ladies win the Championship title in what has been a very competitive battle between themselves, St Ives Town Ladies and 3rd placed Milton Ladies.
Congratulations to Park Ladies on winning Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South title.
Essex
Two games being played in Essex on Sunday. One of those being the Women’s League Cup Final, and that was where the Supporting Women’s Football Blog headed to Herongate Athletic FC to watch Harlow Ladies play Runwell Hospital Ladies for the trophy. Followers of The Tuesday Round-Up will know full well how successful a season Harlow Ladies have been having, in just their 1st together under the Harlow banner, Essex Women’s Division One Champions aswell as winning two cup finals the Women’s Trophy and Tiptree & District Women’s Charity Cup. The quadruple was on. Runwell Hospital Ladies in their 2nd season together had reached their 1st ever cup final.
It was Runwell who were to take an early lead, Rachael Selfe putting them in front, the lead wasn’t to last long as Harlow hit back straight away Eliza Weeks heading the ball in from a corner. Harlow went on to fashion a host of chances before taking the lead late in the 1st half Tia Dye popping up inside the box to turn the ball home. Again the lead was lost soon after and it was a brilliant strike to from distance by Runwell’s Nik Chapman to fire the ball into the top corner.
All square at 2-2 going into the 2nd half, Harlow got themselves back in front breaking from a Runwell corner getting the ball up into Dye she plays the ball through the keepers legs to score her 2nd of the game. Harlow added a 4th goal, Abbie Bensted firing the ball home, but despite having Runwell on the back foot for a large portion of the game they were never out of it Sammie Delves volleying home a cross inside the area to make it 4-3. 5 minutes from time Harlow got another goal Philippa Stephens rifling the ball home the final score 5-3 Harlow Ladies cap off a fantastic season with a 3rd cup win completing a quadruple and Harlow are the only side in the region with 100% win record in the league. The whole match report from the SWF Blog can be found scrolling on the website below.
Congratulations to Harlow Ladies on such a fantastic season.
One last league game to bring you in Essex Women’s Division One, Hullbridge Sports Ladies Reserves won 6-0 away to Valley Green.
That concludes the penultimate edition of The Tuesday Round-Up one more to go and it’s going to be a little different. A handful of games left out there in the FAWPL South East Division One, Essex and the ERWFL League and Division One Cup Finals. Introduced a new page to the website this week a Club Advertising page for clubs to post adverts looking for new players or coaching staff, volunteers, or to announce trial dates please get in touch if you like to place an ad. Can’t believe it’ll soon be over until next week tanks for reading.
Welcome to Edition Thirty Four of The Tuesday Round-Up, start with an apology for being a late one but it has been a busy start to the week football wise the season might be drawing to a close but that still sees the games coming thick and fast 3 Cup Finals in 3 nights starting on Sunday with the Beds & Herts Women’s League Cup Final, then onto Suffolk for their Women’s County Cup Final finishing last night with the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup Final, match reports to write up and a full time job to add into the mix and that left little room to write up The Tuesday Round-Up and with this being one of the last of any significant size for this season with league titles and cups won it needed to give those involved proper recognition. Plus seeing’s as we’ve had a few extra games since Sunday we can give those a mention too so let’s get started
FAWPL Cup
One final I sadly couldn’t make it to was the biggest one in the Women’s Football East spectrum the FAWPL Cup Final. This season’s final featured two sides playing in the FAWPL Southern Division, Cardiff City Ladies and Tottenham Hotspur Ladies. A 3rd Cup Final match of the season for Tottenham Hotspur Ladies having played 2 already winning the Ryman Women’s Cup in a penalty shootout against Charlton Athletic Women, then losing to the same opponents in the Capital Cup Final, this was the big one though the one they wanted. Cardiff City Ladies too a chance to end the season with some silverware the Final played at Kidderminster Harriers FC.
Biance Baptiste scored the opening goal in the final putting Tottenham Hotspur Ladies into the lead just after the half hour mark. Cardiff City Ladies responded before have time Hope Suimenin with the goal just before the break to make it 1-1 at half-time. The second half produced no more goals seeing the final go into an extra half hour. Cardiff City Ladies goalkeeper Alesha McGlynn was injured during the extra passage of play unable to continue Hannah Mills stepped into her place in goal. The game was looking destined to go to penalties then in the dying moments Maya Vio got her head onto the ball to nod it over the line and cue wild celebrations from the Tottenham Hotspur Ladies bench her goal winning the FAWPL Cup.
Two trophies to end their season, congratulations to Tottenham Hotspur Ladies on winning this season’s FAWPL Cup.
FAWPL South East Division One
Two games being played in the FAWPL Southern Division, league Champions Crystal Palace had enjoyed a lap of honour walking parading the trophy inside a packed Selhurst Park on Saturday. Still had unfinished business in the league however one last game to play 21 played so far an unbeaten record to keep. A trip up to Norfolk to play Norwich City Ladies. Took a while to break the home side down Alma Donohoe scoring late in the 1st half to give Crystal Palace Ladies the lead. 2nd half upping the tempo eventually led to further goals Gemma Bryan making it 2-0 before Donohoe turned provider for Leanne Bell to head the ball into the back of the net and seal a 3-0 win making it 20 wins and 2 draws for the season to cap off a fantastic season.
Also in league action for their final game of the season were Luton Town Ladies on the road facing Old Actonians Ladies in a later 4:30pm kick-off. 4th place already secured in the table they consolidated the position with 3 more points Nicola Henman and Jessica McKay with the goals as they win 2-0. 4th for the second season running however scored 27 points last time around 40 points this time ironically would have brought them a top 2 finish last season, they have improved but so to have others around them and the FAWPL South East Division One is developing into a strong competitive league.
Eastern Regional Leagues
A couple of games in the ERWFL this Sunday with teams wrapping up their fixtures. One more game left outstanding in the ERWFL Premier Division with Acle United Ladies travelling south to play Haringey Borough Women, who with a win could have secured a 4th place finish. It was 7th placed Acle United Ladies who finished with a win however as they took the 3 points courtesy of a single goal, Kate Pasque netting the goal.
In the ERWFL Division One East, Champions Writtle Ladies were due to play Bury Town Ladies in their final league match of the season but were awarded the home team as Bury Town Ladies had insufficient players available. Writtle Ladies have the ERWFL Division One Cup Final to look forwards to on the 22nd May.
In ERWFL Division One West two outstanding fixtures remain, the league games between Colney Heath Ladies and Hoddesdon Owls Ladies both home and away although both would be played at Colney Heath. The 1st this Sunday, Colney Heath Ladies have been bottom of the table all season, but have been one of a number of sides who just haven’t been able to get a run of fixtures going, 5 points adrift at the bottom only 2 wins from 2 would see them finish above Sawbridgeworth Town WFC. Hoddedon Owls Ladies have been struggling with fixtures early in the season to but getting them on late on have build up momentum and form suffering a narrow defeat to league winners Royston Town Ladies in midweek. Came unstuck this Sunday as Colney Heath Ladies hit them for 5, scoring 5 goals without reply to get the 3 points 2 goals from Adrienne Milton plus a goal a piece for Kelly Hancock, Kirsty Fraser and Samantha May. Play Hoddesdon Owls again this coming Sunday then they are Writtle Ladies opponents in the ERWFL Division One Cup Final on May 22nd.
Norfolk
Brandon Town Ladies… remember them? Played their last league fixture back on February 28th sat top of Norfolk Women’s Division One with one game left to play against Thorpe United Ladies, that game got postponed leaving Brandon Town Ladies without a competitive fixture for 10 weeks. Had dropped to 2nd with Wymondham Town Ladies going top couldn’t catch them but a win would secure a runners-up spot and end Thorpe United’s own hopes of winning the title. At Thorpe United this Sunday the game was eventually played, 3 goals in the match all coming 1st half saw Thorpe United Ladies win the 3 points to over take Brandon Town Ladies push them down into 3rd spot. Chloe Slater scoring for Brandon Town Ladies, Charlotte Groves and Becky Russell from the penalty spot sealing the win.
That leaves Thorpe United 3 points behind leaders Wymondham Town Ladies with a game left. Wymondham Town Ladies awarded the A-W in their final match as opponents Fakenham Town Ladies couldn’t find the players available for this rearranged fixture. Thorpe United play 4th placed Aylsham FC Ladies away in their final league game have to win by 5 clear goals if they wish to take the title.
One other fixture played in Norfolk this Sunday in Division Two, 4th placed Red Rose Ladies could climb a place and finish 3rd in the table with a win away to 2nd bottom Morley Ladies. a brace each for Ellen Hutton and Megan Skinner plus a strike from Lauren Hems saw them win the game 5-1, Candice Halstead with the goal for Morley Ladies to see them finish 3rd. Won’t be known as Red Rose Ladies next season, the current 1st team moving on a change needed with the players and management unhappy with the current set up. Will be known as Briston Ladies next season and hope to retain their Division Two status.
Suffolk
It’s been coming for a few weeks now as readers of The Tuesday Round-Up will know in Suffolk and Copleston Ladies did it at the weekend won the Women’s Division Title. Coming from behind with games in hand the scenario was simple in the end if they could win all their games in hand in they could overhaul Brantham Athletic Ladies and claim the title by 2 points. Were playing their last league game against bottom side Ipswich Phoenix Ladies who haven’t taken a point all season. Copleston went about their business leading 2-0 at half time adding 2 more goals 2nd half the goals coming from Jade Horne, Megan Stock, Elysia Young and Amelia Deuchars. Won the game 4-1 Catherine Mason on target for Ipswich Phoenix Ladies.
Congratulation to Copleston Ladies on winning the Suffolk Women’s Division Title.
Also in action in the Suffolk Women’s Division playing their last league game to were Leiston St Margarets Ladies at home to Witnesham Wasps Ladies. Leiston St Margarets taking advantage of a depleted Witnesham Wasps Ladies side to win 2-0 claim their 5th win of the season.
A spot of Monday night football in Suffolk this week too the middle of 3 Finals attended this week, a special occasion at Portman Road the home of Ipswich Town FC where this season’s Suffolk Women’s County Cup Final was being played. A fantastic opportunity for the finalists Kirkley & Pakefield FC Ladies and Ipswich Town Ladies the current holders of the trophy to play at the famous stadium a 5 league gap between to two sides it was always going to be a tough test for Kirkley & Pakefield FC Ladies. Ipswich coming at them Hollie Clement opened the scored driving into the box and curling a shot home. Molly Hall scored the 2nd goal heading the ball into the back of the net, Libby Dixon springing the offside trap to make it 3-0.
Captain Amanda Crump added 2 more goals before half-time then added a third 5 minutes into the 2nd half giving her a Cup Final hat-trick. Ipswich Town Ladies kept creating chances striking the woodwork on 4 or 5 occasions before substitute Sophie Welton scored 2 goals late on to make the final score 8-0 and retain the County Cup. The full match report from the Supporting Women’s Football Blog will be posted to the site soon for now you can read it by clicking on the link below.
Congratulations to Ipswich Town Ladies on retaining the Suffolk Women’s County Cup.
Cambridgeshire
Cambridge City Ladies are celebrating to this week having secured a league and cup double. In their debut season playing in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership the side having been together all the way through the youth leagues went top last week a draw the minimum requirement in the game on Sunday a home to Netherton United Ladies would see them clinch the title. Grace Stanley scored for Cambridge City Ladies, Megan Parrett with the goal for Netherton United Ladies saw the points shared the game ending 1-1 enough to see Cambridge City Ladies crowned Champions.
Battling it out for the runners-up spot in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership were ICA Sports Ladies with the advantage a pint ahead in 2nd place hosting Cambridge United WFC Reserves. ICA Sports Ladies scored twice, Tash Applegate and Clare Knibbs on target, Cambridge United WFC Reserves found the back of the net with 2 goals themselves Ebony-Jade Rule and Hayley Turner getting on the scoresheet saw the points shared the game ending 2-2 ICA Sports Ladies in their 1st season in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership finishing runners-up.
A quick turn around for both Champions Cambridge City Ladies and Cambridge United WFC Reserves as they were in action again last night (hence why The Tuesday Round-Up is on a Wednesday this week) playing in the Final of the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup at Histon FC. A local derby a chance for a league and cup double for Cambridge City Ladies whilst Cambridge United WFC Reserves beaten in the final last season wanted to lift it this time around. Was always going to be a competitive match and got off to a lively start 3 goals inside the opening 15 minutes Cambridge City taking the lead a long range shot from Grace Stanley evading the diving Tafadzwa Mhunduru in the Cambridge United WFC goal to put them ahead, United came back Laura Mills blasting home a shot just two minutes later then Hayley Turner scored from inside the box to make it 2-1.
Cambridge City were awarded a penalty with 10 minutes left of the 1st half, Philippa Witherspoon brought down, captain Bronte Rapley scoring from the spot placing the ball into the top corner. All even at half-time Cambridge United WFC Reserves got themselves back in front Mills putting the ball over the line. Conceded another penalty however and this time it was Stanley who stepped up to dispatch then with 15 minutes left Stanley went on a mazy run through the middle breaking into the box and sending the ball past the advancing keeper to seal her Cup Final hat-trick and see Cambridge City lead 4-3 in a cracking contest held on to win the game and seal a league and cup double. Like the Suffolk Women’s County Cup Final the match was covered by the Supporting Women’s Football Blog and can be read by clicking the link below.
Congratulations to Cambridge City Ladies on your League and Cup double.
Elsewhere in Cambridgeshire it was a clash between the top two in the Women’s Championship North with Champions Bourne Ladies hosting March Town United Ladies both playing their final match of the season positions secured no pressure on the game, the goals flowed from both sides. Bourne Ladies leading 4-2 at half time went on to win 8-5. Kimberly Fairweather and Tracey Duxbury-Mead both scoring a brace for Bourne with the other 4 goals coming courtesy of Charlotte Ayers, Rosanna Baker, Claire Lawrenson and Toni McHamilton. March Town United Ladies goals were scored by Adele Munday who hit 2 with Shannon Kelly getting herself a hat-trick on the final day of the season.
Wisbech Town Ladies finish 3rd in the Championship North table with a 4-0 final day away win at 2nd bottom Hungate Rovers Ladies. 2 goals for Sophie Gutteridge, plus a goal each for Shushannah Feast and Annie Rooks. Swineshead Institute Ladies in their 1st season playing in the Championship North end with a comfortable mid-table finish playing at home against Stamford Ladies. Edged the win to claim 3 points in a 7 goal thriller Eleaner Spendlow bagging the hat-trick ball with Becky Taylor also on target in a 4-3 win likely to be awarded 3 points in their final game of the season will overhaul Stamford Ladies for 5th place in the table.
Thing’s are a little clearer in the race for the title in Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South, no longer a 3 way battle for top spot. With 2nd placed St Ives Town Ladies playing 3rd placed Milton Ladies on Sunday. Both sides needed the win to keep their title hopes alive. It was a close game a single goal settling it the 3 points going to St Ives Town Ladies, Sasha Smith grabbing the winning goal to see them keep up the pressure on leaders Park Ladies. Despite being awarded an away win in their final match Milton Ladies end the season in 3rd place it what has been a competitive battle at the top of the league all season.
Comes down to the final round of fixtures this coming Sunday a pint between the 2 sides St Ives Town Ladies have an earlier kick off at bottom side Cambridge Rangers and although you can take nothing for granted could well hold top spot before Park Ladies kick off i their match away to Riverside Rovers Reserves. That would mean nothing short of the win will do, get it and they will be Champions. Best of luck to both sides.
Essex
In Essex it was pretty quiet at the weekend just the one fixture taking place in Essex Women’s Division One with Hullbridge Sports Ladies Reserves racking up a huge 13-0 win at home against Valley Green.
Last night Wickford Town Ladies were away in their final league game of the season playing Division One Runners-up Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves finished with a victory Kerry Newby scoring a hat-trick with Claire Campbell adding 2 more goals Stone with a goal to as they end the season with a 6-2 win.
Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire
Just the one game in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire this Sunday the leagues all wrapped up it was the Women’s League Cup Final and a repeat of last seasons final with holders Garston Ladies playing Sherrardswood Ladies at AFC Kempston Rovers FC in a 6:15pm kick-off. This was also where the Supporting Women’s Football Blog started a trilogy of Cup Finals and again the link to the whole report can be found below.
Vikki Duffy gave Garston Ladies the lead moments after captain Gemma Curtis had rifled a shot against the cross bar. Duffy sending a shot in from the edge of the area. Held the advantage at half-time. Sherrardswood Ladies finished the 1st half strongly and riding out a spell of Garston pressure early 2nd half rallied as the 2nd half grew the equalising goal coming deep into injury time Rhia Rose curling a shot home to send the game into extra-time.
Sherrardswood Ladies got themselves into the lead Rose again with the goal in the 2nd period of extra-time from a free kick a good way out central flying into the goal. So close to victory, Garston pushed down the other end late on winning a corner the delivery in the dying seconds perfect as Sam Roads rose highest inside the box to head the ball into the back of the net and send the final into penalties. Garston Ladies failed to score their 1st two penalties Sherrardswood converting theirs then a complete turn around as Garston went on to score their final 3 penalties and heart break for Sherrardswood at the end not scoring another seeing Garston retain the cup with a 3-2 penalty shootout win.
Congratualtions to Garston Ladies on winning the Beds & Herts Women’s League Cup for the 2nd successive season.

Norfolk
It was Finals Day in Norfolk the Women’s and Girls Football League (NWGFL) League Cup and Plate Finals played at Plantation Park home of Norwich United FC and Norwich City Ladies. The Ladies Plate Competition is a new competition introduced this season and saw an all Division Two Final with North Walsham Angels Ladies taking in Red Rose Ladies both sides playing in their 1st final.
North Walsham Angels have already secured promotion in just their 2nd season since forming. Took the lead in the Plate Final scoring on the 15 minute mark, Lauren Yarham coming in far side to turn the ball home inside the six yard box after Luci Middleton saw her shot saved pushed out wide. Middleton get’s on the scoresheet before the end of the 1st half being played through before lifting her shot over the keeper and into the back of the net from just outside the area.
Middleton went on to claim the match ball in the 2nd half on target twice more, played in behind the Red Rose defence to chase down the ball evade a challenge and put driving into the box shoots from an acute angle to score. Moments later Middleton gets her hat-trick play building up down the left the ball coming to the edge of the area for Imogen Carver, gets a touch on it just before the advancing keeper squaring it to Middleton who has an empty goal to shoot at doesn’t miss. North Walsham Angels Ladies win 4-0 to lift the Ladies League Plate. The whole match report can be found by scrolling further down this web page or clicking on the link below to take you to the Supporting Women’s Football Blog.

A fairly uneventful 1st half with two sides evenly matched not seeing their final balls come off with defences on top for the large part. 2nd half substitute Laura Wiseman put Wymondham Town Ladies into the lead midway through the 2nd half. The ball over the top putting her clear shooting early from outside the box to score. Had a chance to double the lead soon after put in again with the keeper coming pulls the shot wide across goal. Well into the last 5 minutes of the final and Aylsham FC Ladies have a corner kick put in from the right captain Vicki Bird times her jump to perfection connecting with the ball and sends it home to make it 1-1. Unbelievably there is time for a winning goal with Aylsham FC Ladies 1-0 moments ago going on to score again to win the Cup Final. An innocuous looking free kick inside the Wymondham half in front of the centre circle, Abbie Charlton over it decides to go for goal, gets good contact and swerve on the ball, flies over the keeper and Charlton is caught and buries under her celebrating team mates as they win the Norfolk Ladies League Cup Final, again you can find the report further down this page or by clicking on the link below.

Has been a difficult and frustrating season for Old Actonians Ladies since the start of 2016 having been playing catch up in their fixtures, still are they. Had dropped down the table to 10th have more or less needed just a single win to be safe for weeks now but haven’t won a single league point in 2016, 8 games played. A home match this Sunday against Norwich City Ladies, Old Actonians took the lead in the 1st half but were pegged back with a minute of the 1st half to play as Ebony Wiseman scored for Norwich. 2nd half and the same again Old Actonians going in front, Norwich pulling it back to 2-2 with 2 minutes normal time to play Wiseman again on target. Old Actonians had time to find the winning goal late in injury time to celebrate finally securing FAWPL football for a 2nd season, a brace from Carla Williams and a Hannah Pearson goal sealing the win. Essex
In the Essex Women’s Premier Division a surprise late season defeat at home for leaders Chelmsford City Ladies in their final league match of the season at home to Lawford Ladies could see them lose out on the league title going down 1-3. A blow to end the season as they have been leading all the way but it gives a chance for 2nd place Hullbridge Sports Ladies to pip them to the league title should have already played out their fixtures but last weekends game at Hutton Ladies Reserves was called off, due to be played this coming Sunday a point will be enough as Hullbridge Sports Ladies have the superior goal difference however they will be going for the win.

Eliza Weeks opening the scoring Tia Dye making it 2-0. Sarah Walker is the Harlow Town Ladies goalkeeper just thought I’d give her a mention as she doesn’t tend to have alot to do but at 2-0 she saves a penalty to keep the lead intact. Into April the business end of the season, plenty of important games coming up for sides at the top and bottom of the league tables. League cup final places decided in Beds & Herts, Essex and Cambridgeshire at the weekend. A new County Cup Final line up in Essex too. League games are getting completed with sides no starting to play out their games looking to finish on a high. None more so than in the top division covered by Women’s Football East and that’s where we start so let’s go.
FAWPL Southern Division
Champions!
Brighton and Hove Albion WFC are the Champions of the FAWPL Southern Division. Went into their final league match of the season away to Tottenham Hotspur Ladies having led the FAWPL Southern Division for much of the 2015/16 season. Having played more games than their title chasing rivals had opened up an 8 point lead travelling up to Brimsdown Rovers FC this Sunday to play mid-table Tottenham, knew one final win would give them the title, couldn’t be caught by any side below.
It was to this match that the featured match report on the Supporting Women’s Football Blog came from, travelling down to Brimsdown Rovers FC, saw a tense 1st half, a scrappy contest with both sides working hard to disrupt the others flow in the middle of the park led to few chances being created. Brighton & Hove Albion WFC had edged those chances and on the stroke of half time got their noses in front, Sophie Perry a constant threat on the left flank for the visitors putting a great ball into the area, striker Amy Taylor getting her toe onto the end of it before the advancing Toni-Anne Wayne in the Tottenham goal to turn the ball home, the celebrations releasing a huge amount of tension.
The 2nd half began much the same as the 1st, Brighton defending well against Tottenham as they searched for an equalising goal. With 20 minutes to go Tottenham manager Karen Hills made a change bringing off Wendy Martin and sending on Bianca Baptiste, the powerful striker making an immediate impact hustling the Brighton back line, robbed them of the ball wide right and turned to attack, sending the ball in towards goal from the angle had the power and pace to fly over Brighton keeper, Faye Baker and nestle in the back of the net beyond to cue more excited celebrations, this time from the home side. The lead wasn’t to last for long, Brighton got themselves 2-1 up just 6 minutes later and it was from the boot of Taylor again, curling a shot around Wayne from the edge of the box. The final whistle saw everyone connected with the club rush into the centre circle to celebrate as saw Brighton & Hove Albion WFC win the league title and not only that book them their place in the FAWSL Play-off match at the end of May.
Brighton celebrating their title success at the final whistle
Women’s Football East sends it’s congratulations to all the players, staff and fans of Brighton & Hove Albion WFC. The whole match report from the Supporting Women’s Football Blog can be found on the website below.
That ended the title hopes of the only 2 sides left able to catch Brighton & Hove Albion WFC if they had of slipped up against Tottenham on Sunday, Charlton Athletic Women in 2nd and 3rd placed Cardiff City Ladies. Both weren’t in league action at the weekend. Cardiff City Ladies as a result slip down to 4th in the table as Coventry United Ladies move above them in the table after a 2-1 home win against C&K Basildon Ladies. Had to come back from behind to win the match going into the dressing room 1-0 down at half time, C&K Basildon Ladies, Zoe Rushen scoring from the penalty spot inside the opening 15 minutes. Coventry were pushing hard for a goal saw several efforts saved by Molly Pavey in the C&K Basildon goal before finding the back of the net 6 minutes into the 2nd half, Amber Hughes with the goal to her name. It was an own goal scored by Claire Lacey that saw the 3 points won 12 minutes later. Are now one of 3 sides battling for the runners-up spot in the division along with Cardiff and Charlton.
Portsmouth FC Ladies too still have a chance of clinching the runners-up spot in the FAWPL Southern Division although that was delivered a blow at the weekend as they lost their 2nd successive league match having lost away to Brighton & Hove Albion WFC away last time out were on home soil taking on Lewes Ladies. A single goal scored in the 1st hlf on 38 minutes by Natasha Wells for Lewes enough to see all 3 points go home with the away side in their penultimate league match of the season.
West Ham United Ladies were playing their final league match of the season at home against Queens Park Ladies a place above them in 9th in the FAWPL Southern Division title. A difficult season off the pitch for West Ham United Ladies a player dispute with the manager seeing several experienced 1st team regulars and favourites leave has seen the side blood a number of younger players. End the season with a goalless draw which see’s them finish 10th in the table, will be interesting to watch over the close season to see how the club builds up for the new campaign.
It’s a draw too between the bottom two sides, Plymouth Argyle Ladies and Forest Green Rovers Ladies, both relegated from the FAWPL Southern Division they finally earn another point each, in what has been a tough league season for both. Both goals coming in the 1st half, Summer Taylor put Plymouth Argyle Ladies ahead on the quarter hour mark. Forest Green Rovers Ladies levelled through Annie Martin 12 minutes later to see both sides take a point.
FAWPL South East Division One
Another good Sunday for FAWPL South East Division One leaders, Crystal Palace Ladies as they score 5 at home to maintain their 9 point lead at the top of the table and extend their unbeaten record. Had seen one of their title rivals Gillingham FC Ladies drop points in the chase as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Enfield Town Ladies in mid-week. Welcomed Norwich City Ladies to Bromley FC on Sunday. Went in 1 up at half-time, with Alma Donohoe firing home on 28 minutes. 2nd half Crystal Palace continued to apply pressure to the Norwich defence, Gemma Bryan scoring early in the half before Pamela McRoberts scored on 63 minutes, Francesca Ali put them 4-0 up with 20 minutes left. Bryan adding her 2nd and Crystal Palace’s 5th goal late on to see them reach 18 games unbeaten with 4 to play.
Gillingham FC Ladies having dropped points in mid-week saw their title hopes suffer another blow at home on Sunday in 3rd place they were taking on 2nd placed Milton Keynes Dons Ladies. Took an early lead Jade Keogh put through to score inside 3 minutes. Were pegged back by Milton Keynes Dons Ladies before half-time Charley Clarke levelling the scoreline. The visitors went on to win the game scoring midway through the 2nd half, Leah Cudone scoring what would prove to be the winning goal.
That defeat for Gillingham FC Ladies, coupled with a win for Luton Town Ladies away to Enfield Town Ladies see’s them switch places in the table. Building on last Sunday’s 2-1 home win against Cambridge United WFC. Travelling to the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, Enfield Town Ladies once again proved they are a tough side to break down, Luton Town Ladies eventually did so on the stroke of half-time an own goal conceded as Natasha Fensome’s shot is deflected into the back of the net, the 3 points were held onto 2nd half as goalkeeper Hollie Staples saved a penalty kick. Up to 3rd with 2 matches left to play.
In 5th place Cambridge United WFC bounce back from last weeks defeat against Luton Town Ladies in style scoring double figures to relegate bottom side Bedford Ladies. Without a single league point since September 2015 it has been on the cards for Bedford for some time only Old Actonians Ladies failure to secure a league win in 2016 has delayed thing’s now they can no longer close the game. Hosted a Cambridge United WFC side that were in the mood for scoring goals. Paige Logie with a hat-trick with a brace each from wide players Becky Taylor and Laura Mills, Laura Bright, Laura Baker, Isabella Simmons, and Faith Hewitt all with a goal each, but the pick of the goals was from central defender Kayleigh-Anne Burt hitting a volley from outside the box into the back of the net as she scores her 1st goal for the club.
Ipswich Town Ladies return to the top half of the FAWPL South East Division One table with an away victory at Old Actonians Ladies on Sunday. Sharon Odofin scoring for Old Actonians from the penalty spot, but it wasn’t enough to secure any points at the 5th time of asking in 2016 as Ipswich Town Ladies won 2-1 goals coming from Aimee Harrison and Roxanne Small. Old Actonians ladies remain 3rd bottom 2 points of 2nd bottom Lowestoft Town Ladies but have plenty of games yet to play a single point would be enough to keep them safe if they could just find it, but won’t matter as their rivals at the bottom have just the one match left to play now. Lowestoft had a chance to move above Old Actonians on Sunday know their chances of avoiding relegation are nearly impossible but whilst their rivals can’t buy a point they have a chance. Were at home against Denham United Ladies on Sunday, Aimee Durrant put Lowestoft into the lead on 30 minutes saw them go into the dressing room with the lead. Denham United Ladies came back 2nd half an own goal putting them level before Lauren Cox and Helen Capewell scored to see them win 3-1 to take all 3 points.
Eastern Regional Leagues
Can never take nothing for granted in any league and it looked odds on that Stevenage Ladies with their games in hand would overhaul Billericay Town Ladies at the top of the ERWFL Premier Division to win promotion to the FAWPL. 3 games in hand 2 points behind they had the chance to take top spot on Sunday at home in a rearranged league fixture against AFC Dunstable Ladies, their local rivals however have if you’ve been following The Tuesday Round-Up have been in a rich vein of form as the season draws to a close 5 wins and a draw in 2016 to date. Were a goal down at the break Stevenage Ladies taking the lead before Dunstable came back 2nd half with 2 goals from Amber Pearson to win the game 2-1. Stevenage Ladies have 3 games left and need 2 wins from those to secure the title assuming Billericay Town Ladies win their final league game. AFC Dunstable Ladies have played out their fixtures securing a comfortable mid-table finish a strong end with 6 wins and a draw in 2016 sure they’d love the season to continue, but positive momentum to carry into the new season.
Despite their win against Stevenage Ladies, AFC Dunstable Ladies actually drop a place in the ERWFL Premier Division table, ties on the same number of points as Colchester Town Ladies with a close goal difference a large win sees Colchester Town up into 4th spot following a 4-1 away win at bottom side Great Wakering Rovers Ladies on Sunday. 2 goals scored by Paige Wakefield plus a goal a piece for Chelsea Forde and Kira Fitz-Patrick saw them win 4-1. Also level on points with Colchester Town Ladies and AFC Dunstable Ladies are Haringey Borough Women all on 26 points now in 6th playing their penultimate fixture of the season were at home against Great Shelford Ladies. A close match in the finish saw the home side edge it 3-2 with goals from Stephanie Cooper, Roisin Cormack and Morgan Lundberg. Great Shelford Ladies were disappointed not to take at least a point from the game their goals coming from Sophie Ugar and Alison Wright.
3rd placed AFC Sudbury Ladies were at home playing Norfolk side Acle United Ladies in the ERWFL Premier Division, have all but secured a 3rd place finish in their 1st season in the league following a 1-1 draw. Looked to be heading to all 3 points after Stacey Teager had given them the lead however they were pegged back deep into stoppage time by Acle United Ladies, Kate Pasque earning the away side a point.
In the ERWFL Division One West there are new leaders as Royston Town Ladies having been playing catch up with their fixtures all season leap above leaders Hutton Ladies and 2nd placed Offley & Stopsley Ladies who have both played out their fixtures, are now a point ahead with 2 left to play on 21. Away to Sawbridgeworth Town WFC, Royston Town Ladies, Samantha Tinsley scored twice with Hayley Graham also on target as they won 3-1 have 2 left to play and look odds on to win the league. Not quite their yet as Hoddesdon Owls Ladies back in 5th have 4 games left to play and with a possible 12 points to gain Royston Town Ladies need on more result to get over the line, the 2 are scheduled to face each other but it could be all over by then, Hoddesdon though are in a good streak of form and will be aiming for a strong end to the season.
Were in action in the quarter finals of the ERWFL Division One Cup at the weekend 3 games taking place with Writtle Ladies involved in the County Cup instead.Hoddesdon Owls Ladies were at home playing Stevenage Ladies Reserves for a place in the semi-finals. Becky Scola drove home a free kick on 25 to put Hoddesdon 1-0 up 7 minutes before half-time the lead was 2-0 Kristi Burling on target. Stevenage Ladies Reserves came back into the tie 2nd half pulled a goal back through jade Beckett with 12 minutes left before forcing the game into extra-time deep into injury time Leah Littlechild striking the ball home. Into extra-time Burling headed home from a corner to put Hoddesdon Owls Ladies back in front before Kristina O’Connell rounded the keeper late on to seal the victory and see Hoddesdon Owls into the semi-finals.
Joining them in the semi-finals are Colney Heath Ladies travelling to Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies. Molly Slade giving the visitors a 1-0 lead at half-time, Holly Sheridan doubled the advantage on 50 minutes. Brief hope of a come back for Little Thurrock Dynamos with 12 to go as Katy Judd pulled it back to 2-1, that was short lived as Colney Heath Ladies scored again 2 minutes later to go 3-1 up, Kirsty Feasey with the goal to see out the tie. Offley & Stopsley Ladies are the other side to book a place in the semi-finals of the ERWFL Division One Cup, at home to Hutton Ladies who scored twice through Hayley Critchell and Ebony Moore it wasn’t enough as Offley & Stopsley Ladies found the back of the net 3 times to progress. The semi-final line up will be completed by either Writtle Ladies or Silver End United Ladies who play next Sunday.
Norfolk
In Norfolk Women’s Division One, Wymondham Town Ladies had moved into top spot last weekend, on 32 points unbeaten with 12 matches played 2 points clear of 2nd placed Brandon Town Ladies. Wymondham town Ladies were away to 3rd placed Thorpe United Ladies who had 4 matches left to play, on 23 points could catch Wymondham Town Ladies still to win the title so a big game for both sides. Thorpe United Ladies brought Wymondham Town Ladies unbeaten league record to an end Charlotte Groves scoring 2 goals with captain Rebekah Lake adding a 3rd goal in a 3-0 victory to set up a potential grandstand finish. Wymondham Town Ladies are away to Fakenham Town Ladies next Sunday 3 points are a must, then it might all come down to goal difference and with a good advantage in that department will be watching Thorpe United’s last 3 fixtures nervously, always going to be a competitive title race at the top in Norfolk and has proved to be the case.

Jessica Oxlade scoring the goal for East Bergholt United both still have 2 matches left to play but it’s the side moving up into 3rd place in the table they will be watching.
Far from being the only side out there, Copleston Ladies just haven’t been able to get the league games played during the winter and have been playing catch up all season. Whilst Brantham Athletic Ladies were winning the Suffolk Women’s League Cup last Weds, Copleston Ladies were beating Leiston St Margarets Ladies 8-0 to move themselves up from 5th, now they are up to 3rd spot after another 3 point haul away to bottom side Ipswich Phoenix Ladies, now such an easy task this time around still won the game 3-0 thanks to a Jade Horne hat-trick. Cambridgeshire
The loss of Premiership side Huntingdon Town Ladies so late on in the season was a blow to Cambridgeshire Women’s football, but wasn’t an easy decision for the club to make. Were the holders of the League Cup and had reached the semi-finals of this years competition, drawn at home against the young guns of Cambridge City Ladies they were awarded the away win to progress to the final itself took on another side feeling the fixture frustration, Brandon Town Ladies in if it was ever a competitive fixture would be a tasty encounter.
The other semi-final in the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup did take place however this weekend with last season’s beaten finalists Cambridge United WFC Reserves at home to fellow Premiership side Fulbourn Bluebirds. Top of the league versus bottom of the league it was Cambridge United WFC Reserves who won comfortably to book their place in a 2nd cup final of the season Emily Ingle with a hat-trick with Monique Christian, Hayley Turner and Gemma Clark also on target in a 6-1 win. Stamford Ladies in having climbed up to 3rd in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North table last weekend were beaten this Sunday at home playing Wisbech St Marys Ladies who took the 3 points in a 2-1 win to lift themselves up from 6th into 4th in the table.
In the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South 2nd and 3rd placed St Ives Town Ladies and Milton Ladies were both awarded H-W and 3 points without kicking a ball as frustrated as they would have been not to do so. That meant just the one game taking place a different kind of pressure for Park Ladies to deal with as they were the side on top spot now having been chasing for a good part of the season an away trip to Isleham United Ladies a tight game Shona Kelly and Rachel Turner both scored for Isleham United. Park Ladies won the game and took the 3 points home edging it 3-2, Kirstie Smith with 2 goals, Amy Newell scoring too. Another league that could well go down to the wire.

Plenty to cover April started with bright sunshine a real frustration for those that did see their game called off, but those were few and far between, which of course means we have alot to cover once again so let’s plunge on.
FAWPL Southern Division
In the FAWPL Southern Division, Brighton & Hove Albion WFC are almost there have one league match left to play and a win away to Tottenham Hotspur Ladies this coming Sunday will see them crowned Champions with none of the chasing sides being able to catch them. Maintain an 8 point lead at the top of the table on Sunday. At home for their final FAWPL league game this season taking on a side who needed a win to keep their own slender hopes of pipping them to the title alive. Portsmouth FC Ladies were in 3rd place in the table 10 points behind Brighton but with 2 games in hand, needed a win and Brighton to lose both their remaining 2 matches to catch them, unlikely as that was it was a win or they were out of the running.
Brighton were in no mood to fall at the final hurdle however, Amy Taylor scoring twice to put them 2 up inside the opening 20 minutes. Molly Clark pulled a goal back for Portsmouth shortly after but conceded again in the final minute of the 1st half to go in 3-1 down at the break, Charlotte Gurr the Brighton scorer. No more goals were to follow 2nd half as Brighton celebrated. Win their final game and there’s no one to catch them despite the sides below them all having games in hand.
Portsmouth FC Ladies weren’t the only side hoping to see Brighton beaten this Sunday, 2nd placed Charlton Athletic Women. 8 points behind, but again with 2 matches in hand could do with the result going Portsmouth’s way. Were taking on a side from the South Coast themselves with Lewes Ladies the visitors to the Sporting Club Thamesmead Stadium. Of course forgetting the Brighton v Portsmouth match Charlton had to get the right result at home, was a disastrous start conceding in the opening 2 minutes, Lewes ladies going ahead through a Sian Heather strike. Lewes lead right up till the end of the 1st half, Kit Graham scoring to put Charlton back on level terms going into the dressing room at half-time. The stalemate held even as Lewes were reduced to 10 players with 10 minutes left, Paige Walder shown a red card. Plenty of injury time was played, and deep into it 90+5 Charlton popped up with a winning goal, Grace Coombs scoring to win the match and take all 3 points.
Cardiff City Ladies are now the only side who can overhaul Brighton’s points tally, winning on Sunday to climb up to 3rd spot above Portsmouth are 10 points behind Brighton with 12 points left to play for even winning those 4 matches win be futile if Brighton win their remaining match. Still like Charlton it was a case of winning your own match 1st and this Sunday they were away to Tottenham Hotspur Ladies whom they will face in the FAWPL League Cup Final next month. One goal was enough to win the 3 points coming for the Welsh side, Alys Hinchcliffe netting from a free kick in the closing seconds of the 1st half.
Coventry United Ladies also climb above Portsmouth to take 4th spot with a comfortable 5-0 away win at Queens Park Rangers Ladies. The visitors 1st goal came just after the half hour mark, Jade Brook on target with Marie Gauntlett putting Coventry 2-0 up 5 minutes before half-time. Amber Hughes extended Coventry’s lead 15 minutes into the 2nd half with Gauntlett scoring her 2nd of the game 2 minutes later. Christina Torkildson making it 5-0 with 15 minutes left on the clock.
FAWPL South East Division One
Leaders Crystal Palace Ladies keep up their unbeaten lead record but were made to work for it at home against Denham United Ladies on Sunday. The visitors taking a 1-0 lead into half-time Alissa Down scoring screamer of a free kick from 25-30 yards out. Francesca Ali came off the bench to join the action for Crystal Palace early in the 2nd half and was on hand inside the box to score the levelling goal for the hosts. Denham United came back to retake the lead Elisha Allen with a long run to round the keeper inside the box and score. 2-1 down going into the last 15 minutes Crystal Palace scored again Ali with her 2nd of the match. Went on to break Denham hearts and cue wild celebrations as they scored in the dying moments of the 90 to win 3-2, Gemma Bryan’s strike smashing in down off the cross bar and over the line. Have a 9 point lead with 5 matches left to play.
The side most likely to catch them in the FAWPL South East Division One are 3rd placed Gillingham FC Ladies. Have 8 matches left to play due to postponements and cup football early in the season even winning all those games still need to see Crystal Palace’s unbeaten run end. Were on the road at the weekend a long journey north up to the top of the Suffolk Coast to play 2nd bottom side Lowestoft Ladies. Took the early initiative going 2 nil up on the 5th and 6th minute respectfully, Paige Baker-Carroll and Megan Maslak with the goals. On 20 minutes Kallie Balfour made it 3-0. Jade Keogh and Lauren Davis both scoring in the final 5 minutes of the 1st half to take full control of the match. 2nd half saw an improved Lowestoft performance couldn’t keep Gilllingham from scoring again but restricted them to 1 more goal Baker-Carroll with her 2nd of the match on the 63rd minute seeing Gillingham win 6-0 give their goal difference another boost.
4th versus 5th in the FAWPL South East Division One was this weekends featured match on the Supporting Women’s Football Blog, a trip to the Stockwood Park Athletics Stadium to watch Luton Town Ladies play Cambridge United WFC. Two competitive sides this was a fiery encounter with several strong challenges early on that set the tone with the referee letting it go. Luton were to take the lead a well delivered corner to the far post met by the head of the falling Nicola Henman was directed back on target Cambridge failing to keep it out on the post. Was from a corner themselves that Cambridge got it back to 1-1 at half-time, a well delivered ball from Laura Mills which goalkeeper Hollie Staples could only knock down at the far post with Cambridge’s Laura Bright on hand to bundle home. 2nd half Luton were to regain the lead Natasha Fensome getting onto the ball on the edge of the area and driving across goal shooting back across to score. Tensions boiled over ending in a mass confrontation players from both sides joining in took the referee a minute to sort out the repressions seeing Luton’s Zara Carroll sent off. Despite being down to 10 from the remainder of the 2nd half Luton defended well to hold on to the lead and take all 3 points. The full match report can be found on the website below this post.
Elsewhere it was a trip up to Norfolk for Enfield Town Ladies to play Norwich City Ladies. Nuala McKevitt scored the only goal of the match to see Enfield Town Ladies leave with the 3 points in the bag and move up a place to 7th in the table.
2nd placed Milton Keynes Dons Ladies were involved in a Cup Final at the weekend defending the Berks & Bucks Women’s County Cup against Maidenhead United Ladies whom were also their opponents last season. Was late into the 2nd half before the deadlock was finally broken Andie Dickens heading home in the final 10 minutes for Milton Keynes to see them win. Congratulations to Milton Keynes Dons Ladies on their cup success.
Eastern Regional Leagues
Win the ERWFL Division One Cup group stages out of the way it was back to league action across the 3 divisions. In the ERWFL Premier Division 2nd placed Stevenage Ladies close the gap to leaders Billericay Town Ladies to 2 points with 3 matches in hand with a 3-1 away victory at 2nd bottom side Great Shelford Ladies. A hat-trick scored by Donna McGuigan securing the win. Great Shelford Ladies goal was scored by Samantha Tant her 1st for the club.
Continuing their astonishing form in 2016, AFC Dunstable Ladies are now up to 4th in the ERWFL Premier Division table following another win as they extend their unbeaten league run to 6 matches 5 of those wins. The latest at home this Sunday taking on Acle United Ladies who travelled with just the bare 11 players. Amber Pearson scoring for Dunstable inside 10 minutes the goal proving to be enough to take all the points.
Haringey Borough Women were 4th themselves at the start of play this weekend, but drop to 6th place their opponents moving above them as they travelled to Colchester Town Ladies with just 10 players available. Kerry Stimson scoring a hat-trick for the home side with Chelsea Forde and Charlotte Bryant also on target in a 5-1 win. Klesha Darroux scoring the goal for Haringey Borough Women.
We have our 1st league Champions of the season in the East. In the ERWFL Division One East, Writtle Ladies have gone the entire season, much like the previous two seasons before with a 100% winning league record. Had 3 more matches to play in the league before the weekend 2 of which were against their nearest rivals Silver End United Ladies, their fellow Essex side 3 points behind with just the 2 matches left both against Writtle, needed victory as they welcomed them onto their patch. Writtle had other ideas Courtney Clarke scoring twice with Georgina Tricker also bagging a goal to win the match and open up a 6 point lead can’t be caught now and will be looking to finish without a loss in their last 2 matches away to Bury Town Ladies and home against Silver End United.
Congratulations to Writtle Ladies, ERWFL Division One East Champions.
Where as their are just a handful of fixtures left to be played in the ERWFL Division One East, their counterparts in Division One West have plenty of football left to play having seen alot of postponements early in the year. 7 sides contesting the league leaders Hutton Ladies have played out their league fixtures 12 played on 20 points have 2 sides with games in hand below who can catch them to win the title. Offley & Stopsley Ladies laying in 2nd place were 4 points back with just this weekends fixture to go, were playing bottom side Colney Heath Ladies at the weekend a reversed fixture saw them travel to Colney Heath to play the match scored the only goal of the game to make it a winning finish end on 19 points, 2nd place for now.
The two sides with a chance of catching Hutton Ladies to take the title met at the weekend, Stevenage Ladies Reserves in 3rd place on 16 points had 2 games in hand needed to win both to guarantee the title. Were taking on 4th placed Royston Town Ladies who have only played 8 league fixtures to date. on 15 points with 12 to play for. Beat Stevenage Ladies Reserves and they’d end their rivals title bid. The scores were all level at half-time 1-1, a different story 2nd half with Royston Town Ladies scoring 4 more times to win the game 5-1 leave Stevenage Ladies Reserves out of the running, Leah Littlechild scoring their goal in the 1st half. Royston Town Ladies goals came from Paris Coldicott-Stevens, Samantha Tinsley, Georgia Gannaway and 2 goals for Stacey Little.
Also in the division, Hoddesdon Owls Ladies have a faint shot at the title themselves climbing up to 5th place over opponents Sawbridgeworth Town WFC this Sunday. Taking their recent Division One Cup form into their league campaign had won 3 group successive group matches to finish 2nd in their group. Were at Sawbridgeworth Town WFC at the weekend. Daniela Martucci earning herself a hat-trick scoring all their goals in a 3-1 win. Dempsey Favell with Sawbridgeworth Town WFC’s goal.
Norfolk
In Norfolk Women’s Division One they have been chasing the leaders all season, their earlier run in the FA Women’s Cup meaning they had fixtures to catch up on. This Sunday Wymondham Town Ladies went top of the league. Unbeaten after 11 played conceding just 5 goals were away to Aylsham FC Ladies at the weekend. Despite taking the lead through a Sally Hammerton goal Wymondham went into the break 3-1 down, Aylsham’s goal scoring machine Abbie Charlton with all 3 goals. Wymondham fought back 2nd half goals from Kelly Ayers and Brooklyn Cheal-Ferris getting it back to 3-3 before Alice Collins scored what would be the winning goal to take it 4-3 and go top 2 points clear of Brandon with 2 games left to play. Are away to 4th placed Thorpe United Ladies this coming Sunday if Wymondham win it’ll will see them crowned champions. Thorpe United however have played just the 9 games with 5 left could with a win push it all the way to the end, a big game, Wymondham want to finish the season unbeaten.
At the opposite end of the table in Division One, Fakenham Town Ladies are enjoying a timely purple patch of results at the end of their season near the bottom the entire campaign a draw and 2 wins have seen them climb up to 5th in the table following a 3-2 home win over Lynn Ladies last time out in the league were on the road this Sunday taking on Bungay Town Ladies. Climb above them as they win again by 3 goals to 2. 4 of the goals coming in the 1st half Emily Leach with a goal for Bungay, Fakenham scoring 3 with Rochelle Woods on target for 2 goals, Natalie Wright scoring too. Leach pulled it back to 3-2 for Bungay 2nd half but it wasn’t enough as Fakenham Town Ladies made it 7 points in their last 3.
No league action in Norfolk Women’s Division Two this Sunday, although 4 sides were in action playing one another in the semi-finals of the Norfolk Ladies Plate, a new competition this season. In the 1st semi-final North Walsham Angels Ladies were at home playing Morley Ladies. North Walsham could only field 10 players on the day, but having already secured promotion to Norfolk Division One had the firepower to best Morley on the day winning the game 4-0, 2 goals in each half, Luci Middleton smashing the ball into the back of the net to score a hat-trick with Emma Allsopp to reach their 1st ever final in just their 2nd season.
Joining them in the Norfolk Ladies Plate Final will be, Red Rose Ladies, who unless I’m told different are also into their 1st ever final too. Were away to fellow Division Two side Stalham Town Ladies. The game was all square at half-time 1-1, Amber Mayhew scoring for Stalham. Red Rose Ladies winning it 2-1 with a goal in the 2nd half, Sophie and Vicky Lubbock with their names on the scoresheet. The Norfolk Ladies Plate Final is to be played on Sun 1st May at Plantation Park.
In Norfolk Women’s Division Three, leaders Harleston Ladies were playing their penultimate match of the season knowing they have already secured promotion to Division Two. Had gone unbeaten for so long 11 games 10 of those wins until losing at 2nd placed Gorleston FC Ladies two weeks ago. That defeat was followed by another this Sunday as they travelled to play Freethorpe Ladies who were also playing their penultimate game. Picked up a fantastic 3 points as Chloe Barber netted 3 times for the home side to win the game beating Harleston Ladies 3-2, Lacey Andrews with both of their goals.
In 2nd place Gorleston FC Ladies are closing the gap on Harleston Ladies at the top, still with a 100% win record having been left with alot of matches to catch up on earlier in the season were at home to 3rd placed Red Rose United at the weekend. Goals from Kayleigh Byrne, Kelly Allen, Molly Sims and a hat-trick from Samantha Hunn saw them win the match by 6 goals to 2 and in the process secure promotion to Division Two. Holly Baker and Charlotte Gardiner-Banks with Red Rose United’s goals.
Suffolk
In Suffolk it’s still all to play for in the title race with 4 of the 7 sides contesting the league still in with a chance of claiming the champions crown. The leading pair of Brantham Athletic Ladies and East Bergholt United weren’t in action this Sunday. That gave their rivals a chance to close the gap. In 3rd place Witnesham Wasps Ladies were taking on bottom side Ipswich Phoenix Ladies for the 2nd time in a fortnight at home that time around won 9-0. On the road this weekend were in merciless form as they prepare for a midweek League Cup Final match against Brantham Athletic Ladies scoring 6 goals in either half won the game 12-0, Emily Steward scoring 8 of the goals taking her tally to 38 in all competitions for the club this season so far. Emma Long scoring a brace with Lauren Page and Alice Rampling also getting goals.
They are still in 5th place in the Suffolk Women’s Division league table have been behind with their fixtures all season however Copleston Ladies are still very much involved in the hunt for the title, whereas the top 3 sides have 3 matches left to play Copleston Ladies have 6 left to play and moving onto 23 points are 7 points off the leading pair after this Sunday’s result. Travelled to play Bacton United Ladies in 4th place. 2 goals from Sophie Crane plus a goal each for, Amy Trenter, Kristie Turner, Elysia Young and Jade Horne saw them take the points in a 6-2 victory.
Cambridgeshire
Even as I am putting together The Tuesday Round-Up for Cambridgeshire news comes through of another side dropping out of the leagues in the East and it is sad news indeed to here Huntingdon Town Ladies have pulled out of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership this season, the 2nd side to do so. Having seen them in action it is a real shame but no surprise having been struggling to field a full team in recent weeks. Is heartening to hear the club is looking to regroup and not stay away from the women’s football scene for too long and I wish everyone involved with the club all the best, and hope sincerely to be writing about Huntingdon Town Ladies in whatever guise they return in on The Tuesday Round-Up in the future.
That sad news of course especially this late into a season brings about huge changes to a league table, in this case the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership as Huntingdon’s results are struck off and the table adjusted. Would have started by saying ICA Sports Ladies win to go back to the top of the Premiership beating Bar Hill Ladies at home 6-2. They did win 6-2 Lorna Hart scoring a hat-trick, with a brace for Sarah Rouse and one goal for Emily Woosnam. Bar Hill ladies 2 goals scored by Nadine Wejkins and Natalie Wells. However ICA Sports drop to 2nd in the adjusted table 2 wins against Huntingdon struck off.
That sees Cambridge United WFC Reserves stay top of the table now with a huge 5 point lead at the top of the Premiership having not played Huntingdon. Were away to Netherton United Ladies at The Grange at the weekend. Netherton took the lead Sasha Haw scoring the goal to see them take a half-time lead. Cambridge United WFC Reserves got themselves back on level terms 20 minutes into the 2nd half the goal scored by Emma Roberts to see the points shared
Also in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership, Newmarket Town Ladies are enjoying a good spell of form have seen points lost having played Huntingdon however that form has seen them pick up a 3 point haul against one of the sides hoping to contest the title as they came away from Cambridge University Women with win, Nadine Basson on target with the winning goal. All means the title mix up looks like this with it being a 14 match season leaders Cambridge United WFC Reserves have one game left can get 28 points. ICA Sports in 2nd have 4 games left can potentially get 32 points. In 3rd Cambridge City Ladies have 6 left to play and can earn 33 points if they win them all. In 4th Cambridge University Women have just the 3 games left and 26 points if earned is unlikely to get them the title.
One game took place in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North at the weekend with 5th placed Stamford Ladies travelling to 2nd bottom side Hungate Rovers Ladies move up to 3rd with a thumping 7-1 win, whilst Wisbech St Marys Ladies were awarded an away win over Downham Town Ladies.
New leaders in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South as Park Ladies win the battle between 2nd and 3rd to climb above leaders St Ives Town Ladies. Park Ladies were a point behind the leaders with a game in hand going into the match at home against 3rd placed Milton who had 4 games in hand 10 points back on the leaders going into the game. Milton took the lead in the 1st half held the advantage going into the 2nd half. Park Ladies came back 2nd half with Danielle Green and Ebony Bliss scoring before Kirstie Smith settled it from the penalty spot to win the game 3-1 and sent Park Ladies to the top of the league.
Also in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South it as the clash of the bottom two, Isleham United Ladies at home to Cambridge Rangers bottom of the league. Isleham won the match 5-0 Shona Kelly and Laura Todd amongst the goals.
Essex
Going into the closing fixtures the battle for the Essex Women’s Premier Division looks to be between two sides as they play out their penultimate league games, leaders Chelmsford City Ladies a point clear of 2nd placed Hullbridge Sports Ladies with both having just one match to play. Chelmsford City Ladies were away to Hutton Ladies Reserves on Sunday, won the match 2-1 with a goal each for Ciara Meeking and Lisa Overall to stay a point clear of Hullbridge Sports Ladies who faced a tough trip away to 3rd placed Collier Row Tigers who were playing their last league game of the season couldn’t catch Chelmsford City but could stop Hullbridge Sports doing so. 2 goals put into the back of the net by Broghan Kelly plus another from Danni Dorrington saw Hullbridge Sports Ladies win the game 3-2 and guarantee a minimum 2nd place finish.
Just the one game played in Essex Women’s Division One with 3rd placed Chigwell Ladies travelling to Valley Green. racking up a 13-1 win Chigwell keep the pressure on 2nd placed Chelmsford City Reserves the gap just a point however Chigwell have played two game more.
Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire
The Beds & Herts Women’s Division One has new leaders going into April as Sherrardswood Ladies who have played all their league matches are displaced to 2nd on goal difference by Harvesters FC Ladies who beat Letchworth Garden City Eagles Ladies 3-0 away from home this Sunday, all 3 goals coming inside the opening 25 minutes, a Kayla Johnson goal sandwiched between an Ellie Lovelock brace to take the 3 points.
Hertford Town Ladies in 3rd place move to within 3 points of both Harvesters FC Ladies and Sherrardswood still with plenty of games in hand following a comfortable 6-0 home win over bottom side Flitwick Ladies. A goal from Kelly Shephard plus a hat-trick scored by Kerry Oldham along with 2 unfortunate own goals by Flitwick saw them to victory have 5 matches to play. Another side with plenty of games in hand is 5th placed Garston Ladies. Were held to a 1-1 draw with 2nd bottom side Sandy Ladies at the weekend, Joanne Sharp scoring for Garston. Chloe Reeves with the goal for Sandy Ladies.
In Beds & Herts Division Two, Garston Ladies FC 96 close the gap on the leading trio to get themselves in with a good shoot at earning promotion 5 points separating the top 4 now all to play for. Garston Ladies FC 96 were away playing bottom side Evergreen Eagles at the weekend winning the game 4-0 they have a game in hand on 3rd placed Houghton Athletic Ladies and 2 on 2 placed Hitchin Town Ladies with the gap 4 points. Elsewhere in Division Two a 35th minute strike on goal from Jay Birse was enough to earn the win for Woburn Lionesses at home against Royston Town Ladies Reserves to end a run of 3 successive defeats.
A new name at the top of Beds & Herts Women’s Division Three as Evergreen Ladies beat 2nd placed Icknield Ladies to climb to the summit as 3 sides fight for promotion. All Tied on 33 points Evergreen Ladies have top spot. Evergreen Ladies were 3rd going into the weekends fixtures hosting 2nd placed Icknield Ladies had the lead on the half hour mark thanks to a goal scored by Emily Jones, doubled the advantage 2nd half with Louisa Johnson on target to see the 3 points won and set up what is going to be an exciting contest at the top of the league till the end of the season.
Bedmond Ladies consolidate 4th spot in Division Three with a 4-2 away win against Panshanger Ladies who scored through Sophie Whitman and Georgina Harvey. Elsewhere in the division the bottom 4 sides all faced each other with Bedwell Rangers making a late surge up the table with a 3rd successive league win on Sunday at home to Hatfield Town Ladies. An early goal scored on the 4th minute by Jessica Sullivan gave Bedwell rangers the lead were pegged back to 1-1 before taking a 2-1 lead into the dressing room on the stroke of half time Ailish Beadle scoring the goal. 2nd half was a totally different story as Bedwell Rangers took control of the game going on to score 6 more goals to win the game 8-1, Beadle and Sullivan adding another goal each to claim a brace, so too did Leah Tomlin with 2 second half strikes as well as a goal each for Sarah King and Hannah Manton.
Kings Langley Ladies were taking on bottom side Shefford Town & Campton Ladies who at home scored twice for only the 2nd time this season, they lost 3-2 that time this time despite an improved performance lost the game 4-2 with Kings Langley Ladies earning all 3 points with goals from Amber Harris and Mary Hogan plus a brace scored by Kimberley Nield.
That concludes another packed Edition of The Tuesday Round-Up not many games left to play now, April is often and will be a defining month in the football season. One league title sorted, several others very close to breaking the finishing line tape, will they surge over the line or stumble? With any competitive sport you can never say it’s over till it’s over. Going to be exciting and rounding it up exhausting, but intriguing I am sure, and it will all be covered on here, until the next Edition of The Tuesday Round-Up enjoy your football and thanks for reading.
The clocks have gone forwards and the women’s football season it rapidly drawing to an end across the East, still loads to play for at both ends of the table, cup finalists are getting sorted. April is going to be a pivotal month, as Easter Bank Holiday weekend saw March draw to a close. The final Sunday of March falling over the Easter Holiday period saw a reduced fixture list across the region. No fixtures in Norfolk and Essex with just the 3 taking place between Cambridgeshire and Beds and Herts. 23 fixtures in all and 6 of those got called off as a heavy band of rain swept across the country with Storm Katie hot on it’s heels. 17 matches did take place and some significant results. All to come in Edition Twenty Eight of The Tuesday Round-Up.
FAWPL League Cup
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies booked their place in the final of the FAWPL League Cup last Sunday with a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest Ladies now it was the turn of fellow FAWPL Southern Division side, Cardiff City Ladies at home to FAWPL Northern Division side Blackburn Rovers Ladies to see who would meet them in the final to be played at Kidderminster Harriers FC on Sunday 8th May.
Cardiff City Ladies opened the scoring after the half hour mark, Kerry Bartlett heading home from a corner kick, had a 2-0 advantage at half-time after Blackburn’s Lynda Sheppard put through her own net. Extended the lead to 3-0 20 minutes into the 2nd half with Hope Suominen on the scoresheet to make it comfortable, keeping Blackburn out the other end they set up an all FAWPL Southern Division, League Cup Final.
FAWPL Southern Division
Brighton & Hove Albion WFC have lead the FAWPL Southern Division virtually all season having gotten their games in when other hadn’t. There lead at the top is now 8 points with 2 matches left to play. All of their rivals have games in hand however cannot close the gap without Brighton dropping points. Were away this Sunday at C&K Basildon Ladies. Raced into a 2-0 lead Charlotte Gurr and Amy Taylor with the goals inside the opening 10 minutes. Claire Lacey pulled it back to 2-1 for C&K Basildon. Brighton took a 3-1 lead into the break with Deanna Cooper scoring. Cooper scored her 2nd of the match 10 minutes into the 2nd half, Brighton looking strong made it 5-1 when captain Jay Blackie scored on the 63rd minute. Substitute Kate Natkiel adding a 6th goal in the final minute.
Portsmouth FC Ladies climb back up into 3rd place in the FAWPL Southern Division table were on the road at the weekend taking on 2nd bottom side Forest Green Rovers Ladies at Slimbridge AFC. Scored 3 goals in the 1st half to put them in a commanding position, Lucy Quinn on 15 minutes setting things rolling. Leeta Rutherford added the 2nd goal midway through the 1st half with Shannon Sievwright scoring the 3rd goal in 1st half injury time. No more goals 2nd half the 3 points going back to the south coast.
Portsmouth FC Ladies are 8 points behind leaders Brighton with 2 games in hand, one of those is away to Brighton this Sunday a must win game if they want to keep their title hopes alive. That defeat for Forest Green Rovers Ladies seals their fate nothing short of a win would have done if they hoped to avoid relegation can no longer catch the sides above them as their tie in the FAWPL Southern Division ends after 1 season.
Tottenham Hotspur Ladies comfortable in mid-table in the FAWPL Southern Division are looking to build some form at the end of the season to give them confidence going into the finals they have coming up in April and May. Were at home on Sunday playing Lewes Ladies, won the game 2-0 thanks to goals from Avilla Bergin and Rosie Kmita to make it 10 league wins for the season with 3 more matches to play.
FAWPL South East Division One
A 3rd straight league win in March sees leaders Crystal Palace Ladies open up a 6 point gap at the top with their rivals Gillingham FC Ladies and Milton Keynes Dons Ladies facing each other this Sunday getting postponed. Crystal Palace Ladies remain unbeaten in the league were at home to 2nd bottom side Lowestoft Ladies and put in a commanding performance in both halves to seal the 3 points and give their goal difference another huge boost. Had a 4-0 lead at half-time, a brace from Gemma Bryan with a goal each for Leanne Bell and Rochelle Shakes. Pamela McRoberts set the ball rolling 2nd half before Byran 2 hit 2 minutes to make it 7-0, Nicha Dyett scored to make it 8-0. Bryan netting her 5th goal of the game to make the final score 9-0. 20 goals scored in their last 3 matches know they can’t afford to take their foot off the pedal, Gillingham FC Ladies in 3rd have games in hand can’t quite close the gap but a defeat for the leaders would change that.
Enfield Town Ladies earned a point at home against Denham United Ladies on Wednesday night, were at home again this Sunday taking on Norwich City Ladies and once again at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium the points were shared the match ending in stalemate 0-0.
The points were shared too in Suffolk as 4th placed Luton Town Ladies travelled to Felixstowe & Walton FC to play Ipswich Town Ladies. Luton Town Ladies took a lead into half-time Natasha Fensome with the goal. Ipswich Town Ladies equalised early in the 2nd half Roxanne Small on target. Joanne Rutherford put Luton Town back in front but they were pegged back again Small with the goal again to see the game end 2-2.
Eastern Regional Leagues
One game survived the weather in the ERWFL Premier Division with 2nd bottom Great Shelford Ladies beating the 10 players of Brentwood Town Ladies 3-2 at home at the Great Shelford Recreation Ground. Katie Saunders, Sophie Ugar and Alison Wright with the goals to seal the win. Charlotte Twydell scored both Brentwood Town Ladies goals as they continue their poor run of form losing their last 6 league matches.
Elsewhere in the ERWFL it was the final round of group matches in the Division One Cup. Now in the last edition of The Tuesday Round-Up I made a big deal about how it was all going to play out for the sides this Sunday with them contesting a semi-final spot. However it transpires this season’s competition has a quarter final stage in the knock out phase with the top 4 from each group A & B going through. Very frustrating from my point of view as the information I was given told me it was the same as last season’s League Plate competition that was indeed the top 2 from each group going into a semi-final knock out and the full time website backed this up. Still I wasn’t the only one thinking this as most of the clubs contesting the cup were too. I do apologise for the mis-information.
However we had 4 games being played and all survived the weather, was at one of those ties covering it for the Supporting Women’s Football Blog. At the Codicote Social Club, both Stevenage Ladies sides were due to play, heavy overnight rain plus more falling saw the clubs player and staff working furiously to get the games on sadly Stevenage Ladies 1st team match in the ERWFL Premier Division against AFC Dunstable Ladies didn’t get played however the game I’d come to watch Stevenage Ladies Reserves v Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies was on.
It was 3rd versus 2nd in Group A with Essex side, Little Thurrock Dynamos 2nd defending an unbeaten record in the group stage. Fell a goal behind as Stevenage Ladies Reserve striker Leah Littlechild charged through into the box to score. The lead didn’t last long as Little Thurrock Dynamos were awarded a free kick wide on the right halfway inside their opponents half Elysia King to take flighted a high ball in towards the near post goalkeeper Emily Goodacre got a glove to the ball but saw to her dismay mishandled to see it drop into the back of the net. So to it proved this time coming in the 2nd half 20 minutes from time as substitute Eartha Pond fired a cross in towards the Nottingham Forest box Leah Rawle helping it on to the far post where Avilla Bergin was closing in to squeeze the ball home and send Tottenham into the League Cup Final where their opponents will be either Blackburn Rovers Ladies or Cardiff City Ladies the final is due to be played Sun 8th May at Kidderminster Harriers FC. Plymouth would have still gone down had Lewes Ladies gotten any points away to Forest Green Rovers Ladies. As it was Lewes Ladies hit the side 2nd bottom in the FAWPL Southern Division for 6 which has left them all but relegated themselves. The win almost certainly guarantees Lewes Ladies will be playing in the FAWPL Southern Division next season. Games in hand is easy getting the points on offer isn’t so straight forwards especially when you can see the finish line. Twists and turns yet the calculator will be working overtime as the league season draws to a close and it’ll all be covered here. Thanks for reading Edition Twenty Seven, do it all again next week.
