The Round-Up
Sunday 13th May
Norfolk Women’s Division One
The race for the title is back on after leaders Bungay Town Ladies playing their final league game of the season at home to Gorleston FC Ladies, missed out on the win that would have made the title almost certain after they only secured a draw. Goals from Sophie Gillett and Nicole Sheldrake securing a 2-2 draw for Gorleston in their final game of the campaign currently 4th and certain to secure a mid-table finish following promotion last season. A point for Bungay a blow leaving them just 4 points clear of second placed Sprowston Ladies who had 2 games in hand.
Bungay’s hopes of clinching a double out of their hands no on to Sprowston who themselves have an opportunity to complete a double. Two tough games to play however both away starting this Sunday against 3rd placed Thorpe United Ladies. The sides drawing 0-0 at half-time a brace from top scorer Victoria Leyer taking her onto 23 for the season securing a 2-0 win for Sprowston and moves them to within a point of Bungay. A win away to Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves this coming Sunday will see them take the title.
Also in Norfolk Women’s Division One this Sunday North Walsham Angels Ladies were playing their penultimate game of the season away to bottom side Long Stratton Ladies who were bringing the curtain down on what has been a difficult season. Sadly without a point, despite Emily Watts getting on the scoresheet a brace from Hope Middleton along with goals each for Luci Middleton, Rachel Bussey, Mary-Anne Hoy and Abbie Storey seeing North Walsham win the game 6-1. Finish their season away to Fakenham Town Ladies this coming Sunday.
