County Cup action for the majority across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire this weekend. We’ll begin with the Bedfordshire Women’s competition reaching the 2nd Round stage 3 ties scheduled to see who would be joining the seeded teams in the quarter finals. In the end one game played, Langford Ladies leading Beds & Herts Women’s Division Two receiving a home win. The game between Bedford Ladies Development & Woburn & Wavendon Lionesses listed as cancelled at the moment. That left one game to be played and a tasty looking contested too between AFC Dunstable Women Blues & AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Ladies. Both promoted to Beds & Herts Women’s Division Two this season where both with fancy their chances of making it a 2nd successive promotion. Meeting in the County Cup this weekend Dunstable at home fell behind in the 15th minute, hit back straight away to level the scores top scorer Bianca Vassell making it 1-1. Kempston retaking the lead in the 23rd minute quickly added a 3rd goal. Vassell with her 14th goal of the season pulling it back to 3-2 in the final minute of the first half. Kempston’s turn for an immediate reply scoring a 4th goal to lead 4-2 at half-time. A the goals reserved for the 1st half neither side finding the back of their opponents net for a goal 2nd half Kempston booking their spot in the quarter finals. Bex Cray scoring a brace with goals too for Charlie Mullins and Hannah Humphries scoring her first goal of the season.

A busy Sunday for the Hertfordshire Women’s Challenge Cup with 11 ties scheduled to be played in the 1st Round of the competition. In the end 5 of these saw one side progress without kicking a ball. Wodson Park Ladies, Herts Vipers Women, Garston Ladies Vintage Purples, Letchworth Garden City Eagles & Garston Ladies 1st all going through to the 2nd Round. Plenty of goals scored in the 6 remaining ties with some big wins for the higher league placed sides.
The biggest league gap saw Colney Heath Ladies 2nd in the ERWFL Premier Division at home to Harvesters Ladies currently 2nd in Beds & Herts Women’s Division Three. Colney Heath finding their form in recent weeks too. Striker Rianne Townsend-Brown doubling her goal tally for the season top scoring in the match with 4 goals. Captain Sheree Oliver doing the same scoring a hat-trick. Top scorer Samaira Khan with a goal to take her into double figures their were goals too for Adrienne Milton & Charlene Moreton with Annie Hickey getting her first goal of the season and full back Eustacia Randles scoring for the 2nd successive game. A huge win in the Challenge Cup to away for Stevenage FC Women Development against Beds & Herts Women’s Division Two side Wheathampstead Wanderers Ladies. Emily Schofield top scoring in the game netting 5 goals for Stevenage. Hannah Marshall one behind celebrating 4 goals. A brace each for Sofia Carpenter, Katherine Taylor and Sherrie Evans. Melody Jones, Danielle Ranson and Amy Notschild with her first goal of the season seeing Stevenage run out 18-0 winners.
Beds & Herts Division One side were hosting Watford Ladies Development U19s in the 1st Round of the competition. Watford’s Development side former Challenge Cup winners their young side starting strong racing into a 3-0 lead within the opening 17 minutes. Rebecca Day pulling a goal back for Hitchin Town on the half hour the visitors 3-1 up at the break going on to score a 4th goal in the 2nd period to advance in the cup.
An all Beds & Herts Division One clash saw Hitchin Belles taking on Hartham United Ladies in the 1st Round of the Challenge Cup. Goals from Ellie Burke and Janiece Allen securing a 2-0 lead for Hartham United at half-time. The visitors getting themselves into a 3-0 lead with Georgia Quinton scoring from a 35 yard free-kick. Hitchin Belles creating chances unlucky not to score a goal seeing the woodwork struck twice. Hartham United finding a 4th goal with Sophie Mandel scoring from a corner to see them safely through to the 2nd Round.
Evergreen Ladies without a point on the board at the start of the season in Beds & Herts Division Two were at home to fellow league side Watton Ladies in the 1st Round of the Hertfordshire Women’s Challenge Cup this weekend. A close match between the sides it was Evergreen who were at last celebrating a win to progress in the competition. Goals from Rebecca Freeman and Gemma Arnett enough to secure the hosts a 2-1 victory. Emma Carter on the scoresheet for Watton.
Sherrardswood Ladies playing in Beds & Herts Division Two were at home to Division Three side Bedwell Rangers Ladies in the Challenge Cup 1st Round. Bedwell Rangers finding a bit of form at the start of the season Sherrardswood taking the lead on the 20th minute from a corner Julie Briars heading in her first goal of the season. A narrow lead at half-time the hosts going 2-0 up 10 minutes into the 2nd period Laurie Marris often amongst the goals for Sherrardswood getting off the mark with her first goal of the season from another corner. Bedwell Rangers captain Georgia Miller pulling it back to 2-1. A quick fire brace from Manjinder Atwal put Sherrardswood 4-1 up a late goal from Kally-Ann Westgarth on her first start for the club sealing a 5-1 victory.

One match played in the Beds & Herts Women’s Football League this Sunday in Division Three. Kempston Rovers Ladies continuing their excellent start to the season muscling their way in between the new kids on the block leading the table Herts Vipers & Harvesters Ladies the 3 sides all on 12 points. Kempston Rovers at home taking on Hitchin Town Ladies Reserves this Sunday. The hosts winning their 4th game of the season by 3 goals to 1. Ellie Newberry-Bierton scoring her 7th goal of the season for Kempston Rovers, Millie Scott also getting a goal along with captain Lucy Harper scoring her first goal of the season. April Spang with the late strike for Hitchin Town.
A busy Sunday across the county with 8 ties being played in the 2nd Round of the Essex Women’s County Cup. Contrasting scoreline with some huge wins plenty of goals scored throughout one tie going all the way to a penalty shootout.
The biggest win of the round going to Hutton Ladies the ERWFL Division One South side reaching the semi-finals of the competition last season away to Essex Women’s Division One high flyers, Aveley Ladies. Hutton top of their league are a side with plenty of goals in them at the best of times, Vicky Kinsman a potent threat in front of goal since joining the club was on target for 4 goals herself at the weekend. 4 goals too for captain Abigail Fry. Lauren Knight scoring a brace. A brace also for Hayley Critchell her first goals of the season. Hutton winning the game 15-1 their were also first goals for the season for Kelly Roberts, Rianne Dimmock and Hannah Page. Aveley captain Holly Wright scoring the hosts goal.
Chelmsford City Ladies 3rd in the Essex Women’s Premier Division were at home in the 2nd Round of the Essex Women’s County Cup taking on newcomers Bowers & Pitsea Ladies Development. The Division One side 1-0 with just 6 minutes played Georgia James putting Chelmsford into the lead. The Premier Division side adding a 2nd goal late in the half to lead 2-0 at the break with Molly Butcher on target. Chelmsford going further ahead 6 minutes into the 2nd half comfortable a 4th goal coming with 10 minutes left to play, Shannon Kelly and James with her 2nd of the match the scorers. Bowers & Pitsea getting a goal back with 3 minutes left to play an screamer from the half way line by Grace Tebb-Reading. Chelmsford winning 4-1.

Finding some form in the Essex Women’s Premier Division, Southend United Ladies were away to Division One side, Hutton Ladies Reserves in the 2nd Round of the County Cup this weekend. Lily Halliday opening the scoring for Southend on her birthday making it 1-0 from a well flighted 25 yard free-kick. Ellie Wood played through on goal to score and see Southend into a 2-0 lead at half-time. The visitors adding to their lead 2nd half, Ebony Baker scoring her first of the season. Wood then made it 4-0 from the penalty spot. Ria Toovey making it 5-0. Wood completing her hat-trick to make it 8 goals for the season and see Southend safely progress with a 6-0 victory.
Billericay Town Ladies Development also beginning to find their feet in the Essex Women’s Premier Division were looking to make it back to back wins for the first time this season as they travelled to played Division One side Leigh Ramblers Ladies Reserves in the County Cup. 4 goals for Sophie Nyiro sending her to the top of the goal scoring chart helping to secure Billericay a place in the 3rd Round, Lisa Robins also getting her 5th goal of the season to seal a 5-1 win.
An all Essex Women’s Premier Division tie in the 2nd Round of the County Cup saw Collier Row Tigers 2nd in the league at home to newly promoted Rayleigh Town Ladies. Both sides can score plenty of goals on their day. This Sunday belonged to Collier Row Tigers. Laura Bunton rarely goes for long without a mention in the Round-Up and was amongst the goals once again for Collier Row Tigers netting a hat-trick to take her to 19 goals now from just 6 played. Emma Harrison scoring a brace moves onto 5 for the season. There were goals too for Helen Moreira, Mia Cooman and Ammarah Ali in an 8-1 win. Amy Cox getting the goal for Rayleigh Town.
Premier Division leaders Silver End United Ladies were drawn away to Holland Ladies in the 2nd Round of the County Cup, Holland entering the Suffolk Women’s Division picking up some good results early on. Silver End unbeaten in the league with 5 wins from 6 played starting the season well. A close game the sides drawing 2-2 with five minutes left to play Silver End scoring a 3rd and winning goal to book their spot in the 3rd Round of the competition. A brace for Rosi Webb six goals for the season now since joining Silver End plus a goal for Helen Alder.
Premier Division side Frontiers Ladies hosting last season’s league champions Leigh Ramblers Ladies in the County Cup this weekend. Leigh Ramblers stepping up to the ERWFL this season. Nothing to separate the sides at 90 minutes drawing 1-1, Calley Melville-Taylor scoring her first goal for Frontiers the game going to extra-time. Neither side able to find a winning goal the tie to be settled on penalties. Leigh Ramblers coming out on top to progress clinching a 3-2 win in the shootout.
Also meeting in the 2nd Round of the County Cup were Billericay Town Ladies Reserves at home to AFC Basildon Women Development both playing in the FAWNL Reserve South East Division this season. A hat-trick for Amy Jacobs helping to secure a 3-1 victory for Basildon to see them advance in the competition taking her tally to 8 for the season since joining the club. One league game played in Essex this weekend in Division One, Tigers Ladies new to the league this season at home taking on Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves. Losing their opening two league games Tigers have since gone on to take 7 points from their last 3 games making it back to back wins this weekend to consolidate themselves in mid-table joining 4th placed Leigh Ramblers Ladies Reserves on 7 points. A single goal enough to secure the 3 points Tigers winning 1-0.
Needham Market Women Reserves and Brettvale Ladies remain neck and neck at the top of the Suffolk Women’s Division bot keeping up their 100% winning starts 6 from 6 now at the start of the season Needham Market ahead with a superior goal difference, two sides right behind Bury Town Women and Alresford Colne Rangers 3rd and 4th both on 15 points now well placed should either of the leading pair slip up. 6 games played in the Suffolk Women’s Division this Sunday and once again there were plenty of goals scored.
Needham Market Women Reserves on the road taking on AFC Kesgrave Ladies this Sunday. Lois Balfour’s devastating form in front of goal continues 27 goals for the season now from just 6 games played hit another five into the back of the net at the weekend. Abbie Wilkerson also on target to score her 7th goal of the season. 6 goals for Needham Market they didn’t have it all their own way with AFC Kesgrave breaching their defence for 3 goals themselves with Abigail Eley, Sophie Maul and Chloe York all on the scoresheet in a 6-3 loss.
Brettvale Ladies also on their travels this weekend taking on Woodbridge Town Ladies in mid-table. Jenna Liverpool on target to score her 8th goal of the season for Woodbridge with Madison Tribley striking in her first of the season. Brettvale though coming home with the 3 points scoring twice as many at the other end to win 4-2. Amie Chippendale and Abbie Fisher both getting their 4th goals of the campaign with two more netting their first of the season, Kirstie Turner and Amy Doyle.
Having started the season well 4 wins from 4 Bury Town Women suffered their first league loss of the season a fortnight ago at home to another newly formed side, Holland Ladies. Bury bouncing back well to win in the League Cup last weekend were back in league action this Sunday away to Leiston St Margarets Ladies who themselves had only picked up 1 point from their last 4. Despite a first goal of the season from Thalia Cloke for Leiston St Margarets the hosts conceded 3 as Bury Town stay 3rd winning 3-1.
Alresford Colne Rangers keep the pressure on the top three sides a 5th win of the season this weekend keeping them on 15 points in 4th with Bury Town Women 3 behind the leading pair. Were also on the road this weekend taking on Chantry Grasshoppers Ladies. The hosts still in search of their first point of the season again struggling with injuries fielding just the bare 11. Bernice Corney getting no the scoresheet with her first goal of the season for Chantry Grasshoppers, a brace from Rae Clancy taking her to 4 for the season along with a 3rd goal of the season for Laura Abbott securing a 3-1 victory for Alresford.
Elsewhere in the Suffolk Women’s Division their were double figure wins for both Brightlingsea Regent Ladies and Brantham Athletic Ladies. Brightlingsea climbing up to 6th spot in the table as they win for the 3rd time this season were on the road taking on bottom side University of Suffolk Women who struggling for numbers at the start of the season are suffering heavy defeats. Lucy Tilbury beginning the day with 2 goals to her name opening the scoring going on to claim a hat-trick inside the opening half-hour. A flurry of goals towards the end of the match seeing her add a further 4 goals to Brightlingsea’s tally and put her ahead a top scorer. by a single goal over both Paige Knight and Hannah Goldsmith who both have 8 for the season now, Knight herself scoring a hat-trick with Goldsmith getting a goal in the 36th minute. Georgina Murray scoring her first goal for Brightlingsea the final score 13-0 to the visitors.
A clean sweep of away wins this Sunday and an even larger winning margin for Brantham Athletic Ladies. Ending a poor run of 4 straight league defeats wracking up the goals this weekend playing Ramsey & Mistley Ladies. Emmi Bennett scoring her first goals for Brantham netting a hat-trick inside the opening 10 minutes adding a 4th on the 16th minute. Brantham in control adding a further 2 goals to lead 6-0 at the break with Becky Prime and Charlotte Archer with her first goal for Brantham on the scoresheet. The goals continuing to flow in the 2nd period, Bennett going on to score a further 2 goals to take her tally to 6. Sophie Crabtree scoring her first goals of the campaign scoring a brace. There was a quick fire hat-trick for Daisy Canny making her Brantham debut. With Prime and Jessica Ryan with her first goal for the club scoring in the final 10 minutes to see Brantham Athletic run out 16-0 winners.
This season’s Women’s County Cup competition began in the county this Sunday with 3 ties played in the 1st Round of the competition. Wymondham Town Ladies winning the cup for a 2nd successive season last year played at Carrow Road for the 1st time in front of a record crowd.
Wymondham Town Ladies one of three sides progressing in the 1st Round without playing their opponents withdrawing on the eve of the season starting. Fellow ERWFL side Wroxham Women (previously Acle United Women) and Thorpe United both County Cup winners themselves in recent seasons also progressing.
It was to one of the three ties played on Sunday that Women’s Football East travelled to a relatively short trip for a change up the road to Clipbush Park to watch Fakenham Town Ladies v Tavern Ladies. Both sides promoted to Norfolk Women’s Division One this season, Fakenham bringing in new players to bolster their squad with 2 wins from their opening 4 games. Tavern making an excellent start matching the leaders winning 4 from 4 to see a three way lead at the top between themselves Bungay Town Ladies and Thorpe United Ladies… at the start of the day read on to see a different picture emerge.
Tavern starting the game strong pushing player forwards Lucy Kean beating the keeper in the opening minute only to send her shot wide of goal an early let off for Fakenham. Tavern continued to press closing the ball down opening the scoring inside 15 minutes, the ball pressured outside the Fakenham box coming onto Katie Hart-Copsey on the right side smashing a shot in from 20 yards out to make it 1-0. Tavern looking a threat going forwards restricting Fakenham getting forwards Megan Spurrell a threat on the right of attack the hosts getting it back to 1-1 midway through the 1st half, Spurrell holding the ball up on the right tackled the ball latched onto by midfielder Vicki Lubbock to drive forwards and shoot from distance to score. Tavern getting back into the lead quickly Sophie Fuller brought down outside the area in a dangerous position scoring from the resulting free-kick a superb strike to make it 2-1. Kean putting Tavern 3-1 ahead in the 34th minute Hart-Copsey’s cross spilt Kean coming in on the follow up latching onto the ball to prod home.

Tavern leading 3-1 at the break. Fakenham came out strong at the start of the 2nd half. Tavern though organised at the back throughout. The visitors going further ahead through Atlanta Griffith the ball put into her 30 yards out struck sweetly arching in towards goal past the keeper to make it 4-1 in the 55th minute. A competitive game Tavern winning the physical battle Kean brought down attempting to run through on goal Tavern awarded the free-kick Fuller with another fantastic strike to put them 5-1 in front. A last gasp chance to make it a hat-trick of goals from free-kicks one given inside the D but close in the ball put over the bar. Tavern winning comfortably to progress. The draw for the 2nd Round of the Women’s County Cup due to be made live on twitter at 6pm this Wednesday.
Elsewhere in the Norfolk Women’s County Cup 1st Round in was a much welcomed first win of the season for Taverham United Women. Last season’s Division Two Champions winning the title in the debut season in women’s football away to the current Division Two leaders Stalham Town Ladies who were undefeated going into the match. Taverham finding the form that gained them the title scoring 7 goals against their opponents to advance into the 2nd Round with a 7-1 victory.
Plenty of goals too in the other 1st Round tie an all Division Two clash with newcomers North Walsham Angels Ladies at home to Horsford Women. A 9 goal thriller between the sides. it was North Walsham who emerged the winners edging out Horsford 5-4 to reach the 2nd Round of the County Cup.
Norfolk Women’s Division One
Eluded to earlier in the Round-Up a three way tie at the top of Norfolk Women’s Division One is now a 4 way tie with new leaders topping the table on goal difference Sprowston Ladies winning their 4th game of the season going top with Bungay Town Ladies & Thorpe United Ladies not playing aswell as Tavern playing in the County Cup 1st Round. Have played two games more narrow losses to both Bungay and Thorpe earlier in the season back to back wins see Sprowston go top playing in the only match in Division One this weekend a Sprowston derby away to Sprowston Athletic Ladies. A strong first half from Sprowston Ladies leading 5-0. Both sides getting on the scoresheet with one goal each 2nd half. Sprowston Ladies winning 6-1. Striker Victoria Leyer on fire at the start of the season scoring 4 times in the match has an incredible 18 goals from 5 played now. Amee Kennett also getting a goal along with Millie Drake scoring for the first time this season. Rachel Bussey getting the 2nd half goal for Sprowston Athletic.
Norfolk Women’s Division Two
New leaders too in Norfolk Women’s Division Two with Thorpe United Ladies Reserves going top on goal difference over Stalham Town Ladies who were in County Cup action this weekend. Newly formed this season Thorpe United Ladies Reserves side began with a narrow 2-1 loss to Horsford Women have since gone on to be undefeated with back to back wins and a draw with leaders Stalham Town. A third win of the season coming this Sunday away to Hockering Ladies. The bare 11 for Hockering, Thorpe began strongly, in particular Alice Smith on target for her first goals for Thorpe netting a hat-trick inside the opening 20 minutes. Ellie Hunter making her first start for Thorpe scoring on her debut to make it 4-0. Georgia Dearden pulling a goal back for Hockering her first for the club. As good as it would get for Hockering, Thorpe going further ahead with Chloe Mussel-Pipe scoring to make it 5-1 along with Megan Jay netting her first Thorpe goal on the stroke of half-time. Joanne Hooper scoring for Thorpe midway through the 2nd half the final score 8-1 Emily Warnes on the scoresheet with 15 minutes left on the clock.
Newcomers Mulbarton Belles continue to be ravaged by injuries at the start of the season hampering them, are nevertheless battling on enjoying a positive start to life in Division Two, at home to bottom side Bulldogs Ladies at the weekend who themselves continue to struggle for numbers. The visitors getting themselves into a 1-0 lead at the break made Mulbarton work hard to get back into it the hosts coming back to level the scores winning the game late on 2-1 to win their 3rd game of the season lift them back up to 4th in the Division Two table, Emily Arnall and Ellie Wilson scoring the goals their first for the club.
Continues to be very tight on the ERWFL Premier Division, now a 4 way tie at the top on 13 points, with everyone else bunched up behind, all the way down to 10th place St Ives Town Ladies who lay 6 points behind the leading pack. Harlow Town Ladies despite not being in action holding onto top spot on goal difference, Colney Heath Ladies in County Cup action this weekend retaining 2nd spot, joining the pair on 13 points at the top of the table are Luton Town Ladies & Peterborough Northern Star Ladies.
Luton Town Ladies back up into 3rd place were back in league action for the 1st time in 3 weeks having lost for the first time this season away to current leaders Harlow Town Ladies. At home this Sunday were taking on bottom side Haringey Borough Women. Luton taking the lead inside the opening 2 minutes Funmi Babalola scoring her 4th goal of the season. Haringey holding Luton at bay for another half hour before the hosts doubled their lead Zara Carroll’s shot finding the top corner. Jess McKay making it 3-0 with her 7th goal of the season late in the first period. A 4th goal coming early in the 2nd half Erica Bryon scoring her first goal of the season on 47 minutes would go on to score a hat-trick with two quick fire goals on the hour. a 6-0 the goals flowed then for Luton on top adding a further 5 to win the game 11-0. Babalola going on to complete her hat-trick, Carroll adding a further goal along with a brace for Rebecca Kane.

Peterborough Northern Star undefeated since a narrow loss on the opening day gunning for a 3rd straight win. A brace each for Leah Cudone taking her to 6 goals for the season and last seasons top scorer Katie Steward seeing Peterborough Northern Star head home with the 3 points to put them level amongst the leading pack on 4th spot.

Bounced back from last weekend defeat away to Wymondham Town Ladies to win the 3 points at home to Bowers & Pitsea Ladies who find themselves slipping down the table after making an encouraging start to the season. Bowers & Pitsea making a great start taking the lead inside the opening 10 minutes new signing Yasmin Cowley striking for her first goal for the club. Bedford coming back to quickly equalise the initial shot well saved Carissa Kaczorowski there on the follow up to send the ball over the line to make it 1-1. The sides level at half-time Bedford would go on to find the winning goal midway through the 2nd half. Maya Sidhu in plenty of space on the left a through ball finding her taking the ball on to slot into the bottom corner to put Bedford into the lead.

Cambridge City Ladies Development making a fantastic start to the season following promotion to the ERWFL playing in Division One North 4 wins from for so far, were defending their 100% start at home to Newmarket Town Women this Sunday the visitors with a 100% win record themselves albeit having played just the one league match so far. Newmarket starting well taking the lead on the 17th minute, winning a corner Chloe Slater to put the ball in, Beth Woodfield heading on across goal, Jodie Woodfield nodding in from close range to make it 1-0. Striker Annabel Cuthbert making it 2-0 with her 8th goal of the season. A chance to go 3 up from the penalty spot missed by Cuthbert towards the end of the first period hitting the bar. Cambridge’s defence working hard to keep Newmarket at bay needed a better 2nd half performance. The hosts awarded a penalty on the hour dispatched by Carla Penny to put her joint top scorer on 9 with Bella Simmons making it 2-1. Cambridge pressing for another goal forcing a good save from Newmarket keeper Elli-Rai Quinn Nicholls. The hosts given a 2nd penalty with 20 minutes to go Penny successful from the spot levelling the scores to see Cambridge & Newmarket share the points losing their 100% starts stay undefeated.
Far from the start to the season that King’s Lynn Town Ladies were looking for losing their opening two league matches in ERWFL Division One North postponements halting their season for the past two weekends were finally back in action this Sunday the Norfolk side travelling down into Suffolk to play newly promoted East Bergholt United Ladies who have made a promising start to the season playing at a higher level winning 3 of their opening 4 league games currently 2nd in the table. King’s Lynn beginning the match well dominating early on getting into the lead midway through the first half, striker Tiffany Forshaw firing home her 4th goal of the season. The lead doubled on the stroke of half-time captain Becky Russell driving a shot in, King’s Lynn 2-0 up at half-time. East Bergholt came out battling in the 2nd half looking to get back into the match eventually pulling a goal back in the final quarter hour Katie Bruce on target with her first goal of the season. King’s Lynn holding out to claim their first league points of the season.
Histon Ladies with just a point on the board after 3 played in Division One North were looking for their first league win of the season this Sunday at home taking on AFC Sudbury Ladies. A chance to take an early lead as the hosts were awarded a penalty in the opening couple of minutes. Alison Wright to take scoring off the rebound to make it 1-0. Sydney Graham on target to score her first goal for Histon in the 36th minute seeing them into a 2-0 lead at the break. Histon creating further chances in the 2nd period Graham hitting the bar and Sophie Hopkin seeing a shot pushed onto the post Sudbury pulled it back to 2-1 in the 81st minute with scoring her first goal of the season to set up a nervous finish Histon though celebrating the win at the final whistle.

ERWFL League Cup
One game from the group stage of the ERWFL League Cup played this Sunday postponed from last weekend, in Group C Gorleston Ladies hosting Needham Market Women. Both new to the league. Jason Croft stepping down as Gorleston’s manager this week, oversaw the clubs rise through the leagues gaining two promotions. Player/coach Sophie Gillett stepping up to become manager as the club look to build within the ERWFL. Needham market keen to to make their mark in the ERWFL. A close game scrappy on occasions Gorleston working hard with Needham Market creating opportunities early on the visitors taking the lead in the 11th minute with captain Nicola Henderson’s cross sot finding it’s way over the line. Gorleston proving hard to break down Needham Market without creating too much to trouble Needham market at the other end the hosts having one ruled out for offside, Henderson’s early goal proving the difference.
There is a new side leading the way in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division as Watford Ladies take over the top position winning a 3rd successive league game unbeaten in 6 to move a point clear of previous leaders Crawley Wasps Ladies who were playing in the FAWNL Cup this weekend. Watford making the trip to Kent this Sunday to play Gillingham FC Ladies. The hosts striking the crossbar early on in the match, Watford too hitting the bar late in the first half from an Emma Beckett free-kick. The sides goalless at the break the deadlock broken on the hour, Watford captain Helen Ward heading home her 6th goal of the season. The visitors quickly doubling their advantage Andrea Carid heading in the cross to score her 5th of the season. Gillingham creating chances Watford hitting the woodwork again the game into the final 15 minutes. Carid striking again to extend Watford’s lead. Emily Hill adding a 4th goal inside the final 5 minutes rising highest from a corner to score.
Crawley Wasps not only lose the lead in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division but are pushed down to 3rd as Plymouth Argyle Ladies continue their impressive start to the season winning six in a row now their only defeat in the league coming on opening day of the season. Weren’t at their best this weekend but showed character to come back from trailing 1-0 at the break away to Cardiff City Ladies to score a last gasp winner. Had goalkeeper Becky Kyle to thank for keeping the score low in the 1st half pulling of two superb saves. Cardiff eventually scoring close to the end of the 1st period, Cori Williams rising from a corner to head in. Cardiff 1-0 up at the break, Plymouth working hard to find a reply in the 2nd half finally got the breakthrough with 15 minutes left on the clock a handball inside the box seeing the visitors awarded a penalty, captain Katie Middleton stepping up to score. 1-1 leading into the final minute Plymouth with a corner kick the ball played into the box, striker Natasha Knapman getting her head on the ball to score her 14th goal of the season and see the match won 2-1. Plymouth holding 2nd spot but going above Crawley Wasps on goal difference off the back of the result.
FAWNL Cup
Three ties from the 1st Round of the FAWNL Cup played this weekend two postponed from last weekend. One of those Crawley Wasps Ladies match at home to South East Division One side Actonians Ladies. Not much between the sides the score 0-0 at half-time. The Southern Premier Division side breaking the deadlock early in the 2nd half, the ball falling to Rachel Palmer takes on the shot and scores. Crawley Wasps coming close to adding a 2nd goal but in the end the single goal enough to see them through to the next round of the competition.
Also postponed last Sunday Portsmouth FC Women’s trip to the capital to play South East Division One side Leyton Orient WFC in the 1st Round of the League Cup. The hosts taking the lead inside the opening 15 minutes Otesha Charles rounding the keeper to score her 9th goal of the season to put Leyton Orient 1-0 up. The Southern Premier Division side coming back to level the scores just 4 minutes later, Eilidh Currie through to slot the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-1. Chances for both sides Portsmouth taking the lead past the half hour Charmaine True firing in a shot from a tight angle. True getting a quickfire double onto a spilled cross put in by Currie to put Portsmouth 3-1 up at half-time. Portsmouth extending their lead 7 minutes into the 2nd half, Rebecca bath’s shot deflected up over the keeper to make it 4-1. Jade Widdows introduced to the game in the hour twisting and turning inside the box before firing home to make it 5-1 to the visitors in the 66th minute. Jade Bradley with a shot from 12 yards out seeing Portsmouth win the match 6-1 with 10 minutes left.
Billericay Town Ladies joint leaders in FAWNL South East Division One the home side taking on fellow league side Cambridge City Ladies in the FAWNL Cup 1st Round on Sunday. the game played at Bowers & Pitsea’s Len Salmon Stadium. Billericay leading the match one nil at half-time with a goal from captain Lindsey Morgan. The ball played into her path as she breaks from midfield into the box left of goal to shot past the advancing keeper. Billericay going 2-0 up thanks to a fantastic strike from Jay Blackie, the Billericay midfielder latching onto a stray Cambridge City pass to take the ball on towards their box coming central hitting a superb shot in from over 25 yards out. Paris Smith making her first appearance of the season for Billericay, always a goal threat didn’t take her long to score her first goal of the season the ball put forwards high bouncing Smith getting her head on it top of the area to beat the keeper and make it 3-0. Billericay scoring two wonder goals in the match Hannah Smith striking the ball from all of 30 yards out to find the back of the net a secure a 4-0 win.
FAWNL Plate
One tie played in the 1st Round of the FAWNL Plate competition in the East this Sunday and all South East Division One affair with joint leaders Ipswich Town Women at home to Stevenage FC Women on Sunday. The visitors taking the lead in the 20th minute Louise Godden sending her shot over the keeper to make it 1-0. Ipswich coming back to equalise in the 35th minute. Zoe Cossey with the ball at her feet skipping through the defence to slot the ball under the keeper. The hosts quickly scoring again to take the lead, Natasha Thomas getting her head on the ball from a corner to score. Ipswich leading 2-1 at half-time. Stevenage pressing for a goal in the 2nd half to get back on level terms doing so in the 66th minute Tamsyn Sibanda making her first appearance of the season smashing the ball home from a corner. Captain Amy Makewell seeing the ball come back off the woodwork with 15 minutes left the visitors going on to score a last gasp winner. Erin Pope with her first goal of the season, brought down by the keeper just outside the box to take the set-piece sending it into the bottom corner to win the game an send Stevenage into the next round.
FAWNL South East Division One
Three matches played in FAWNL South East Division One this Sunday. With the top three all in Cup action this weekend it was a chance for the chasing sides make up ground. AFC Wimbledon remain unbeaten in the league move up to 3rd position above Leyton Orient WFC who they beat 1-0 at home in midweek. At home again this Sunday were taking on Norwich City Women. Liz O’Callaghan putting Wimbledon into the lead on the half hour. Norwich coming back to level the scores with 5 minutes left to play in the first half, Kathryn Stanley shooting from the left to score. Wimbledon coming back to retake the lead 3 minutes later O’Callaghan with her 2nd of the game lobbing the keeper. Wimbledon 2-1 up at half-time. Hannah Billingham putting Wimbledon 3-1 ahead on the hour heading home a Katie Stanley cross, that the final score Wimbledon going 3rd a point behind the leading pair.
Kelley Blanchflower on target for her 6th goal of the season the difference between the sides as Cambridge United WFC held at 1-0 at half-time in Essex away to AFC Basildon Women. Basildon frustrated having dominated the ball 1st half to fin themselves behind pressed hard in the 2nd period looking for a reply the equaliser finally coming midway through the half, Cerys Adams bundling the ball in from a corner kick. A scrappy equaliser a complete contrast to Adams next goal putting Basildon quickly into the lead scoring from range with a superb strike to make it 2-1 with 20 minutes left. Basildon going on to win the 3 points and consolidate their position in the top half of the table.

Kent Football United were at home to Enfield Town Ladies at the weekend in FAWNL South East Division one, the newly promoted side bottom without a point on the board. Are beginning to get to grips with playing at a higher level Enfield a tough opponent in 5th spot having started the season well. Kent Football United doing well to hold them to a goalless draw at half-time. Enfield breaking the deadlock early in the 2nd half taking the lead in the 48th minute, Hannah Baptiste scoring her 1st goal of the campaign to make it 1-0. The lead doubled 6 minutes later with Tia Bailey firing the ball home to see the 3 points won. All very tight still at the top of the table with Enfeild in 5th spot just 4 points behind the leading pair.
County Cup football this weekend on Women’s Football East with the Norfolk Women’s competition getting underway this Sunday. A trip to Clipbush Park to watch Fakenham Town Ladies v Tavern Ladies meeting in the 1st Round.
Last season’s final played in front of a record crowd at Norwich City FC’s Carrow Road ground, Wymondham Town Ladies beating King’s Lynn Town Ladies to lift the county cup for the 2nd successive season.
Today’s clash between two sides promoted to Division One this season. Fakenham Town Ladies finishing runners-up in Division Two last season bouncing straight back up following relegation the previous season. Tavern finishing 4th in Division Two going up due to an influx of new sides joining the league this season one of a total of six sides moving up to the top division to ensure an equal distribution of teams.
Fakenham bringing in several new faces over the summer to bolster their squad as they look to consolidate and push on in the top division. Players needing time to settle and gel a heavy loss on the opening day have bounced back since winning two of their last 3 league matches. Started last season with a 4-0 home win against Tavern, the aggregate score 5-5 though with Tavern finishing the season well and scoring plenty of goals winning 5-1.
An excellent start to the new season for Tavern Ladies, the Dereham based side playing in Division One for the first time. A 100% winning start with 4 wins from 4 are one of three sides to have made a perfect start sharing the lead with Bungay Town Ladies and defending champions Thorpe United Ladies who they beat in last years League Cup to reach the final itself. Scored plenty of goals during that campaign most notably Atlanta Griffith and Katie Hart-Copsey scoring 74 goals between them, Hart-Copsey one of two players in the East of England last season to surpass 50 goals. Lucy Kean leading the goal scoring so far this season with 6 goals.
Clipbush Park the venue for today’s match the bar open serving hot and cold drinks leading out onto the pitch itself. A large pitch offering plenty of width a test for any teams fitness. A small seated stand on the opposite side of the pitch, covered areas behind both goals. An overcast day dark clouds around and unfortunately some light rain as the teams walked out onto the pitch.

Tavern getting forwards well in numbers Fusco up field as Nicole Costin spreads play in the middle out to the right on for Hart-Copsey, slips on the wet surface as she goes to cross allowing Sands to get across to clear the danger for Fakenham.

Tavern get high on the left a throw won in the corner put into Kean back to the box close to the byline hooks the ball up and beyond her into the ball dropping central inside the six yards box, Fuller goes to attack it, Fakenham scramble clear, gathered by Meganne Smith wide of the area strikes the shot back in flies wide across goal.

The early pressure Tavern have applied seeing them open the scoring inside the opening 15 minutes closing the Fakenham defence down for the ball in front of their area snapping into the challenge it finds it’s way across to the right Hart-Copsey free putting her foot through the ball sending her shot racing past the keeper and in from 18 yards 0-1.

Fakenham make a change, Lauren Crundwell off for Rosie Smith in defence. Maddie Smith wins the race as Fuller plays the ball in behind for Kean to go after.

A few strong challenges coming in a physical contest Tavern using it to their advantage, Griffith getting about in midfield well supported by Costin, the latter winning the ball on for Fuller, Griffith running beyond her to the left the pass into her feet, Maddie Smith sliding in to tackle and regain possession for Fakenham. Bringing the ball on through the middle Clemence Anhour forwards Sophie Lubbock n attack heading it down to Davies on the left she looks to drive in behind, Fusco tackling for Tavern.
GOAL! Fakenham level the scores get players forwards as Spurrell battles for possession on the left with Barnes, the defender lunging in to take the ball away from the attack gifting it to Vicki Lubbock who drives into the space opened up by Spurrell on the right 25 yards out on the angle strikes the ball well the ball coming in at pace rising to drop beyond the keeper into the back of the net 1-1.

Half an hour gone Maddie Smith being kept busy by Kean defending against her at the top of the area as Tavern break forwards with intent Costin winning it in the middle. Griffith coming left squaring the ball inside for Costin 35 yards out forwards for Fuller, Sands stepping out of the Fakenham defence nips in to make the challenge. Kean gets in behind central as the ball is put over the top closing in on the box Easter coming to close her down the attacker manages to get the ball past her before they come together, no pace on the ball however off target as the Fakenham defence get back to clear.
GOAL! Tavern are soon back in front, attacking Fuller on the ball cutting inside from the right outside the box brought down a free-kick awarded. Fuller herself to take the set-piece in a dangerous position. The ball hit well rising to clear the ball and over the keeper to creep in under the bar 1-2.

Fuller shooting from distance 20 yards out right of the D her effort stinging Easters gloves as she palms it down cleared before Kean can pounce.

This is where the note taking skills get put to the test, Fakenham up to attack the corner on the right Sands delivering towards the near post Vicki Lubbock coming to attack it, defended put back out to the right for Sands to cross in again dropping central into the six yard box missed, bouncing up at the far post an amber shirt rising to head the ball goalwards the ball striking the crossbar back down into a congested box a scramble ensures, Gibbons getting down to smother the ball.
Tavern continue to attack strongly getting forwards well whilst keeping it tight and organised at the ball. Fakenham finding it tough to break them down. Spurrell looking the most likely on the right a strong run on the ball getting in behind support from Sophie Lubbock struck low on the angle the ball taking a deflection on it’s way through taking it behind for the corner. Vicki Lubbock making some good runs to make herself available for the corner deliveries Tavern not picking her up once again as she moves towards the ball near side turns and sends a shot from 8 yards out over the bar.

An entertaining first half played at a good pace, Tavern leading 3-1 having the better of the play creating more opportunities scoring early in the game, organised at the back getting forwards with pace closing down well physical. Fakenham creating chances themselves although not getting in behind the Tavern defence tough to break down. Getting it back to 1-1 Tavern coming back with a well taken free-kick gifted a 2nd goal to hold a two goal lead. Fakenham coming close to pulling a goal back on a couple of occasions hitting the bar with one. All to play for 2nd half.
Tavern to get the 2nd half underway. Fakenham with a change at the start of the half, Crundwell back on for Patten. Fakenham quick to close the ball down get it on down the right for Spurrell to attack winning a throw in, defended as Sophie Lubbock seeing the ball into her feet looks to turn and take the ball into the box. Fakenham lively at the start of the 2nd half Vicki Lubbock receiving of another throw right side top of the area driving inside to the byline looking to cross, Bailey preventing her from doing do lays it back outside to Riches 20 yards out a cross driven in low racing wide near side.

Hart-Copsey over on the right a ball crossed into the box headed clear by Sands, up to Anhour in the middle forwards for Davies to attack central running on with the ball but no way through the Tavern defence.
GOAL! Having ridden out a strong spell from Fakenham at the start of the 2nd half Tavern extend their lead with 55 minutes played. The ball won back inside the Fakenham half on the left passed central into Griffith all of 30 yards out lets the ball run across her before striking it a good connection the ball flying in towards goal with power past the keeper before she can react and in 1-4.

Fakenham are getting a little frustrated in the final third good build up play the final ball won’t come more often than not collected by a blue shirt. Fakenham bring Crundwell off on the left side Patten back on. From a throw on the right Vicki Lubbock looks to drive on with the ball at her feet tries to pick out sister Sophie ahead of her in the box, Bell intercepting for Tavern. The visitors make their first change of the game, Danni Lee on for Meganne Smith goes into the defence.
Play stretched now Fakenham taking more risks as they attempt to pull a goal back Kean sending the ball on for Hart-Copsey to run in behind central Rosie Smith getting back on her as the pair close in on the area does well to get across her see the ball back to her keeper. Sophie Lubbock chasing the ball as with Bailey in the left corner the striker pressuring to get the ball back up the line to Patten she strikes the ball goalwards from the angle can only put it into the arms of the goalkeeper.

Tavern continue to win the physical battle stronger to win the ball, nothing malicious is a good spirited game, a good contest. Hart-Copsey lifts the ball on for Griffith breaking through the middle, Rosie Smith getting cross to lung in to put the ball wide for the throw in. Tavern winning a corner as Fuller’s turn and hit from 20 yards out takes a nick to divert it wide of goal. The delivery in close to the near post defended. Tavern make another change Barnes the player off back on comes Meganne Smith.

Fusco winning the ball at the back gets a rush of blood to the head as she takes the ball forwards making it at the way to the top of the area before shooting a challenge deflecting it on pushed wide by Easter.

The visiting side getting forwards in the closing minute the ball across the top of the area, Meganne Smith brought down inside the D by the outstretched leg of Vicki Lubbock a last gasp free-kick for Tavern. Fuller on a hat-trick setting the ball down this one alot closer not always the easiest to strike has a go for goal the strike put over the bar the last act of the game Tavern winning 5-1 to advance in the Norfolk Women’s County Cup.

An enjoyable cup tie competitive between the two sides. Clear to see why Tavern have made such a good start to the season organised at the back getting forwards well, clinical with their chances. Fakenham no doubt disappointed but had chances of their own the final ball just not happening at times. Tavern winning the physical battle showing great movement and vision going forwards.
Women’s Football East – Player of the Match
Onto this afternoon’s Women’s Football East – Player of the Match. A few notable performances to note from Fakenham first, Vicki Lubbock with some great ones on midfield creating both goal scoring opportunities for herself and teammates well backed up by Celemence Anhour who I believe was making her competitive debut in midfield along with Megan Spurrell in attack. For Tavern it was an all round team performance organised at the back breaking up play in the middle and breaking forwards well. There has to be one name alone though. Atlanta Griffith with some great movement on and off the ball the award goes to Sophie Fuller aside from two very well struck free-kicks provided some fantastic link up play between midfield and attack.
An entertaining game both sides have come along way in the year and a bit a last saw them face each other. A competitive cup tie with Norfolk FA making the draw for the next round live on Wednesday evening on twitter at 6pm. My thanks to both sides for the team details much appreciated.
No Round-Up from Norfolk last Sunday as the heavy rainfall over the weekend saw the county completely underway all fixtures wiped out. Thankfully a different story this Sunday despite their being persistent rain leading up to Sunday all bar one scheduled fixture took place. The game not taking place involving Division One leaders Thorpe United Ladies at home to Thetford Town Ladies.
That saw the lead at the top of the table change once again with Bungay Town Ladies joining Thorpe on 12 points keeping up their 100% winning start to the season at home to Taverham United Ladies. 4 wins from 4 coming courtesy of a 5-2 victory. Porsha Renwick making her 3rd appearance for Bungay celebrating her first two goals at the weekend. Nicola Hazell and Selina Rowland both scoring their 3rd goals of the season, their was a goal too for top scorers Leanne Smith her tally now 8 from 4 played. A 3rd straight league defeat for Taverham at the start of the season yet despite that have their 1st 3 points on the board awarded a home win against Thetford earlier in the season. Their goals at the weekend scored by Rebecca Sutton and a first of the campaign for Maya Lawlor.

Newly promoted Tavern Ladies continuing their excellent start to the season matching Bungay and Thorpe at the top of the table with 4 wins from 4 following promotion to Division One this season. A fourth consecutive win coming away from home on Sunday against Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves. A wonder goal from Atlanta Griffith her 5th of the season seeing Tavern leading 1-0 at the break the visitors going on to score a further 3 goals in the 2nd period to win 4-0. Lucy Kean amongst the goals at the start of the season top scorer after she scored a brace on Sunday with Victoria Fusco also on target.
A big win for Sprowston Ladies away from home on Sunday to keep 3 points behind the leading trio in Division One their 3rd win of the season coming against newly promoted Freethorpe Ladies. Leading 4-0 at half-time Sprowston ran riot in the 2nd period to add a further 9 goals to win 13-0. Victoria Leyer more than doubling her goals tally for the season on target to score 8 goals at the weekend moving her onto 14 in total. Abby Hutchin and Emily Hall both getting a goal each with Abbi Nobbs and Calista Tink both on target for their first goals of the season an own goal completing the scoresheet.
Fakenham Town Ladies win for the 2nd time this season following promotion from Division Two. Form up and down at the start of the season, new signings settling into the squad got a good result at home on Sunday against Sprowston Athletic Ladies. Sophie Lubbock scoring along with captain Sian Sands with her first of the season to see the game won 2-1. Kate Morris with the goal for Sprowston Athletic.
Norfolk Women’s Division Two
Four games played in Norfolk Women’s Division Two this Sunday. Leaders Stalham Town Ladies travelling to Thorpe United Ladies Reserves this Sunday looking to keep up their 100% winning start to the season. Goals for Amber Mayhew and Emma Gillespie with her first of the season putting Stalham into a 2-0 lead, Thorpe United with back to back wins coming into the match battling back with Joanne Hooper and Alice Ladbrooke with a goal each to earn them a share of the points and end Stalham’s winning start.
Stalham’s lead at the top of Division Two cut to a point with Beccles Town Ladies winning their 3rd game of the season, back to back wins themselves at home to North Walsham Angels Ladies on Sunday. Lola Barber-King on target scoring a goal her 7th of the season for Beccles, Ellie Hills also getting a goal along with a first Beccles goal for Chloe Pearce, normally the clubs regular goalkeeper getting a game playing outfield. Beccles winning 3-1 to collect the 3 points. Carrie Last on the scoresheet for North Walsham netting her first for the club.
Mulbarton Belles won for the 2nd time this season their first 3 points coming on the opening day the squad hit by injuries since suffering back to back defeats a positive result this weekend on the road away to Bulldogs Ladies. Amy Coaker leaping to the top of the goal scoring charts scoring her first goals for the club finding the back of the net for four goals. Megan Sampson too celebrating her first goals for Mulbarton netting a brace their was a goal to for Abigail Storey in a 7-0 win.
Waveney Ladies making a late start to the season joining Norfolk Women’s Division Two this season winning their opening fixture 2-0 at home to Mulbarton 2 weeks ago made it back to back wins have 6 points on the board winning at home again this Sunday up against Red Rose Ladies. The hosts with 3 goals early in the first half helping them to secure victory. Red Rose scoring to pull it back to 3-1 with 5 minutes left to play Waveney scoring a 4th goal late on to wrap up a 4-1 victory.
The weather hitting the fixtures again in Cambridgeshire this weekend with half the scheduled games called off. One of those involving Premiership leaders Haverhill Rovers Ladies it was an opportunity for 2nd placed ICA Sports Ladies to retake the lead at the top of the table. A local derby were at home taking on Netherton United Ladies. ICA Sports finding themselves in trouble 4-0 down after just 15 minutes. A strong start from Netherton with Yasmin Green scoring a brace along wit a goal a piece for Katie Barber and Jenna Nairn. ICA Sports battling back well though to earn a point with goals scored by Hannah Murphy, Annie Posnett and the first of the season for Jessica Farchica and Sarah Rouse. ICA Sports with a strong youth section that saw 4 16-year-olds making their senior team debuts at the weekend as the club continues to build.
A first competitive league win of the season for Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds sees them rocket up the table to 5th in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership, have 6 points now in total awarded a home win too against Peterborough Northern Star Ladies Reserves dating back to the 15th September. Their first 3 point haul of the season won at home against St Ives Town Ladies Development on Sunday. Marie Stubbings continuing her great scoring form at the start of the season netting twice to take her tally to 9 so far for the season. Fulbourn running out 4-2 winners with two more players scoring, both their first of the season, Natalie Wells and Sharon Pinner. Arianna Andrade and Francesca Worrall getting the goals for St Ives Town.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship
Cambridge Rangers Women open up a 3 point lead at the top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship as they extend their 100% winning start to the season to 4 matches. Away to newcomers Eaton Socon Ladies on Sunday. Top scorer Daniella Lewis scoring a brace to take her onto 7 goals for the season. Claire Kyndt also scoring along with Lauren Lock opening her account for the season from the penalty spot. Cambridge Rangers winning the contest 4-1. Cara Howell with her first goal of the season on target for Eaton Socon.
Park Ladies are up to 4th spot in the Championship table winning at home on Sunday closing the gap to Pinchbeck United Ladies and Cardea Ladies who weren’t in action on Sunday to 2 points. 7 points collected from a possible 12 to date, Park’s 2nd league victory of the season coming against Newmarket Town Women Development. The visitors having just 10 players available would be forced to go down later in the game. Park winning the match 3-1. Francesca Piltsch finding the back of the net for er 3rd goal of the season, Darcey Howe celebrating her first Park goal along with Georgia Payne in her first appearance for the club. Emilee Drayton making her first start for Newmarket getting on the scoresheet for the visitors goal.
Joining Park Ladies on 7 points up to 5th in the Championship table are newcomers Mildenhall Town Ladies. Recovering well from a heavy opening day defeat are now unbeaten in 3 including back to back wins. Their 2nd win of the season coming at home this Sunday paying Haverhill Rovers Ladies Development. Georgia-Louise Dargan opening the scoring in 21 minutes her first goal for the club. That the lead going into the half-time break. Annalise Brown doubled the hosts lead 10 minutes into the 2nd half. The 3 points made secure midway through the 2nd period with Megan Hodson on the scoresheet also celebrating her first Mildenhall goal.
Has been an up and down start to the season for new side Cambourne United Women heavy back to back defeats to begin life in the Championship got their first league win under their belts 3 weekends ago to get their 1st points on the board. A heavy cup loss following last time out bounced back to record back to back victories away to fellow newcomers Swavesey Spartan Ladies this weekend. A close contest all the goals coming in the first half. Stacy Askew and Eleanor Hackshaw with her first goal of the season scoring for Swavesey, Goals from Emily Arnold. Heather, Helen Carder-Hall her first for Cambourne and Heather Williamson scoring a goal on her first appearance enough to see the visitors collect the 3 points.
A full programme of fixtures once again across the Essex Women’s Premier Division with all 8 sides in action. League leaders Silver End United Ladies looking to continue thier unbeaten start to the season at home to Frontiers Ladies at the weekend. A hard fought game between the pair, Frontiers a hard side to break down, Silver End coming away with their 5th win from 6 played a single goal enough to see the 3 points secured. Helen Alder the player getting the goal on the stroke of half-time her 2nd of the season for Silver End who maintain their 3 point lead at the top of the Premier Division.
Collier Row Tigers Women keeping pace with Silver End at the top of the Essex Premier Division having played a game less are unbeaten themselves were at home to Rayleigh Town Ladies this Sunday. Ammarah Ali scoring her first goal for Collier Row as they won the match 2-0 to make it 4 wins from 5 played. Move 5 points clear from 3rd placed Chelmsford City Ladies too with other results going their way.
That result being Chelmsford City’s 3rd loss of the season away to Southend United Ladies on Sunday back to back defeats after losing to Collier Row the weekend before. In contrast it’s back to back wins for Southend after making a poor start to season with one point from their opening 3 matches, got their first 3 points on the boar last weekend away to Beacon Hill Rovers now their 2nd at home. Chelmsford making a fantastic start scoring straight from the kick-off Shannon Kelly with the goal after just 18 seconds. Southend responding well coming back to level with Ellie Wood scoring her first goal of the season. Ria Toovey firing Southend into the lead with Wood on target for her 2nd of the match to see the hosts leading 3-1 at half-time. Wood going on to complete a hat-trick in the 2nd half putting Southend 4-1 scoring a well struck penalty. Mia Brisley getting a goal back for Chelmsford not enough as they lose ground on the leaders, Southend up to 4th in the table.

Also gaining some momentum after a difficult start to life in the Essex Women’s Premier Division are Billericay Town Ladies Development. Won for the 2nd time in 3 matches away to fellow strugglers Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies on Sunday. Billericay’s best result of the season so far. Three players scoring a brace in the match, Monique Black with her first Billericay goals. Rebecca Gallagher always a potent goal threat whilst playing for Corringham Cosmos taking her tally to 4 since joining Billericay, with last season top scorer Lisa Robins also on 4 scoring twice. Joanne Burgoyne also on the scoresheet with her first of the season to see Billericay win the game 7-2. Jo Smeaton scoring both Beacon Hill Rovers goals taking her to 4 for the season the club without a point after 5 played.
Essex Women’s Division One
The Essex Women’s County league seeing it’s first postponement due to the weather this weekend in Division One with the game between Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves and Runwell Sports Ladies called off and with 3rd placed Runwell Sports not in action the leading pair of Corringham Cosmos Women and Aveley Ladies open up a 6 point lead neck and neck at the top of the table both making it 5 wins from 5 at the weekend.
Corringham Cosmos away to Bowers & Pitsea Ladies Development on Sunday taking the lead inside to opening 15 minutes with Michelle Sumpter continuing her great goal scoring form at the start of the season netting for the 9th time. Bowers & Pitsea battling back to get back to 1-1 late in the 1st half with captain Danni Jennings finishing from Grace Tebb-Reading’s free-kick. Corringham Cosmos hitting the hosts with a quick fire brace in 1st half stoppage time to go in 3-1 ahead, Sophie Corcoran making it 2-1 with her first goal of the season before Sumpter struck in her 10th of the season. Sumpter going on to complete her hat-trick early in the 2nd half. Tebb-Reading pulling a goal back for Bowers & Pitsea on the hour could find no further goals Corringham staying top on goal difference winning 4-2.
Aveley Ladies impressive start to the season continues picking up another good result at home against Leigh Ramblers Ladies Reserves on Sunday to keep up their 100% winning start. Hayley Knott and Amara Drummond with her 6th goal of the season securing the 3 points in a narrow 2-1 victory.
New side Tigers Ladies are up to 5th in the Essex Women’s Division One table after they won their first game of the season this weekend away to Hutton Ladies Reserves to build on the point earned in a thrilling 4-4 with Chigwell Ladies a fortnight ago. Ellie Wallace scoring a brace to take her onto 7 goals for the season for Tigers Ladies, opening the scoring in the 5th minute adding her 2nd in stoppage time at the end of the match. Alexandra Collins also on target with a goal in the 1st half Tigers Ladies running out 3-1 winners.
