The weather affecting the fixtures across Cambridgeshire too this Sunday heavy rainfall half the games fall by the wayside with some very late call offs. 3 of the 4 scheduled games surviving in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership and it was a good result for Haverhill Rovers Ladies as they continue their excellent start to the season winning at home to previous leaders ICA Sports Ladies to go top of the table to keep up their 100% winning start. Leverington Sports Ladies up to 3rd in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership table with their 2nd win of the season away to Histon Ladies Reserves on Sunday. A brace from Chloe Stanborough seeing the visitors into a 2-0 lead, Sophie Swinden making it 3-0 on target from a 30 yard free-kick. Histon getting it back to 3-1 before half-time with Bethany Fisher getting the goal. Leverington (probably be December before I stop typing Wisbech) with a strong 2nd half to run out comfortable winners. Stanborough with a penalty to complete her hat-trick, Faye Kowalewsky making it 5-1 with her first of the season would go on to score a 2nd another for Swinden sandwiched in between 7-1 up a quickfire brace from Amy Newell sealing a 9-1 win.
March Town United Ladies at home to Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds this Sunday both playing just their 2nd league game of the season losing their opening fixtures ironically both against ICA Sports Ladies. In search of their first points of the campaign, it was March who were celebrating at the final whistle having secured their first win. Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup
One game going the distance in the 1st Round of the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup this Sunday. Premiership side St Ives Town Ladies Development at home to Championship newcomers Cambourne United Women. Arianna Andrade marking her first appearance for St Ives with a 4 goal haul. Rebecca Baldry also celebrating her first goals for St Ives bagging a brace. Molly Berryman an Francesca Worrall getting their accounts opened with a goal each. Ellen Bullinaria with her first goal along with Ellie Jefferson making her first appearance. Jade Carpenter with a hat-trick seeing St Ives advance with a 13-0 win.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship
One game beating the weather in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship and it was a good result for Cardea Ladies keeping up their 100% winning start to the season making it 3 wins from 3 to join Cambridge Rangers Women and Pinchbeck United Ladies on 9 points at the top of the table. Cardea hosting new side Swavesey Spartans Ladies. Captain Laura Rudd firing Cardea into a 2nd minute lead going on to add another in the first period with a goal for Courtney Coles seeing the hosts leading 3-0 at the break. Nicola Anderson on target twice in the 2nd period securing a 5-0 win.
Five games played this Sunday in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership, first points of the season dropped by leaders ICA Sports Ladies sees the gap closed at the top to just a point. Very early days yet however with just a handful of games played in a 13 strong league a lot more football to be played.
Winning their opening 2 matches saw ICA Sports Ladies topping the Premiership table as they hosted newly promoted Ketton Ladies this Sunday. Ketton winning their debut game at this level 4-1 on the opening day back in league action having been involved in their county cup competition last weekend. A tough contest Ketton doing well to earn a point coming back to level the scores 3 times in the game which finished 3-3. Annie Posnett scoring a brace for ICA Sports her first of the season with Donna Nicholls also on target for a goal her 6th in 3 matches at the start of the season. Fran Kavanagh often amongst the goals for Ketton also netting a brace has 7 now from 3 played with Sascha Smith scoring her first of the campaign.
Was a good opening day to the season for all 4 sides promoted from the Championship North and South last season with both Leverington Ladies and Haverhill Rovers Ladies winning their opening fixture meeting this weekend the pair looking to make it 2 wins from 2. Leverington of course the new name for Wisbech Town Ladies (Put that in because I typed Wisbech out of habit will try not to make that mistake too often as I get used to the new handle). Anyway hosting Leverington started the game well however it was Haverhill who would open the scoring against the run of play the ball fired home from a tight angle. Leverington responding straight away coming back to level the scores the ball crossed in volleyed in at the far post by Terri Ann Moeser for her first of the season. Leverington going on to take the lead, Savanna Plavecz finding the bottom corner for her first of the season. Haverhill’s turn to respond and scoring two quickfire goals held a 3-2 advantage at half-time. Needing to replace their goalkeeper in the 2nd period Leverington pushed hard for a reply striking both the crossbar and the post, Haverhill with a resilient performance to hold on to their lead, Leverington ended with 10 Polly Norman shown a red card, the hosts frustrated at the final whistle Haverhill collecting the 3 points an 2nd spot in the table their 100% in tact. Kayleigh Nolan captaining the side scoring her first two goals of the season a debut goal too for 16-year-old Georgia England.
Two wins from two now for Cambridge City Ladies new ‘A’ side as they climb up to 3rd in the Premiership table, a 3-2 away win against Netherton United Ladies last weekend they were at home to newly promoted St Ives Town Ladies Development this Sunday. A close fought game Cambridge with just the bare 11 a single goal enough to clinch the 3 points with Philippa Witherspoon scoring.
Netherton United Ladies getting off the mark at last having lost their opening two league games. On the road this weekend taking on Histon Ladies Reserves. Netherton off to a flyer scoring within the opening minute Emily Johnson played through to score. Histon reacted well getting straight back on level terms. Barely 4 minutes played and Netherton were leading again Johnson through again to score her 2nd of the game. Yasmin Green adding a 3rd goal for the visitors in the 19th minute. Johnson scoring to complete her hat-trick late in the first half had time for a 4th to see Netherton 5-1 up at half-time. Histon pulling it back to 5-2 within 10 minutes of the restart. Lissy Crutchfield bringing the ball out from the be striking from distance to beat the keeper and get her first of the season seeing Netherton leading 6-2 midway through the 2nd half. Histon kept going and got a 3rd goal. Netherton finishing strong with Green netting her 2nd of the game with 15 minutes left. Katie Cooper making it 8-3 with Johnson getting a 5th of the game in the 90th minute heading home to see Netherton win 9-3.
Peterborough Northern Star Ladies Reserves moving from the Northamptonshire Women’s County league were making their bow in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership this weekend at home to another Peterborough based side Riverside Ladies. PNS Ladies Reserves getting off to a winning start. Kayla Dortch scoring a hat-trick in a 6-0 victory. There were goals too for Larissa Frederick, Georgia Clarke and Brandi Davies.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship
It’s a lot busier in Cambridgeshire on the women’s football front than before not that I’m complaining with a much expanded league this season a 15 strong single division Championship looking exciting early on and seeing plenty of goals scored. A great start to the season for Cambridge Rangers Women bringing last season’s momentum into the new league making it 3 wins from 3 at the beginning of the campaign, used to a Sunday morning kick-off were in action at 10:30am away to Newmarket Town Ladies new Development side. A strong first half seeing the visitors leading the game 3-0. Talia Irvine scoring in the 2nd half for Newmarket, Cambridge Rangers added a further two goals to collect the 3 points with a 5-1 result. Vanessa Martinez Ramos scoring a brace has 4 from 2 appearances for Cambridge Rangers. Daniella Lewis with a goal too also has 4 from 3 played. With Hoi Yee Ng and Claire Kyndt scoring their first goals of the season.
Also making it 3 wins from 3 at the start of the season are Pinchbeck United Ladies. Looking good at the start of the season making new additions to their squad were at home to Burwell Tigers Ladies this Sunday. Leading 2-0 at half-time the hosts went on to score a further 4 goals in the 2nd period to win 6-0. Captain Chloe Gray scoring a brace their were goals too for Freya Peters and Courtney Walker. With China Smith and Natalie Hudson on target for their first goals.
Losing to Pinchbeck 3-0 on the opening day of the season Isleham United Ladies have responded well to win their next two league games to climb into 3rd spot in the Championship table. On the road this weekend were taking on new comers Swavesey Spartans Ladies. Meadow Wooldridge and Tegan Collier with her first of the season scoring for Swavesey. Poppy Green bagging a brace for Isleham to take her onto 5 goals for the season. Laura Todd with a goal too moving onto 7 from 3 played and Karren Overson with her first Isleham goal winning the 3 points, 4-2 the final score.
Deeping United Ladies also moving onto 6 points with their 2nd league win of the season. Losing 7-5 in a dramatic game with Eaton Socon Ladies last time out were at home again facing Hungate Rovers Ladies this weekend their opponents still looking for their first points of the season ran Deeping United close, a first goal of the season for Caroline Sutherland and a brace from Hannah Chapman a fantastic goal from a corner along with a penalty seeing her move onto 8 goals from just 3 played winning the game 3-2.
A first point of the season earned for Mildenhall Town Ladies this Sunday, the newcomers away to Park Ladies this Sunday and eventful first half between the sides seeing them drawing the game 3-3. A brace for Georgia Stimson along with a goal for Darcie Tegerdine for Park. Annalise Brown scoring the first ever Mildenhall goal, also on the scoresheet with their first goals for the club were Jasmine Luckett and Eloise Gookley. The sides battling out a goalless 2nd half to share the points.
A first win of the season coming this Sunday for newcomers Cambourne United Women away to Haverhill Rovers Ladies Development. Emily Arnold opening her account for Cambourne in the 6th minute had a 2nd goal 10 minutes later. A hat-trick completed with 12 minutes left to play. Abbie Cotton making her first start for Cambourne with a goal in the final 3 minutes to see the visitors win the match 4-2. Gemma Codling scoring both goals for Haverhill who you feel can’t be too far away from their first win of the season either.

The 3rd weekend in a row a side from Peterborough has featured in a match report. ICA Sports Ladies the visitors this time around. An large influx of new sides entering the county leagues in Cambridgeshire this season sees the Premiership swell from 8 to 13 sides with a new single division Championship consisting of 15 sides.
March Town United Ladies one of the sides sitting out the opening weekend, begin their campaign this Sunday, now an established side in the Premiership finishing comfortably in what proved to be a competitive tussle in mid-table. Now part of a 13 strong Premiership alot more football to be played 6 new sides those promoted starting well March will be looking to make an impact.
A runners-up finish in the Premiership for ICA Sports Ladies last season, competing within the Peterborough area a hotbed for women’s football, the club both male and female has a very strong youth section always looking to bring players through. Like March well established in the league will be aiming to be as competitive as last season push for the top end of the table. Started their season with a win, although only just letting a 6-2 lead at home to Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds slips to clinch it 6-5 at the final whistle.
Didn’t get to see either side in action last season, and it has been a while since I’ve visited March Town United Ladies, GER Sportsground. Boasts the 2nd oldest wooden football stand in existence set back from the pitch, the venue having hosted greyhound racing in the past. A new clubhouse leading into the ground on one corner, the bar and kitchen open for hot drinks. An historic ground, a good sized pitch. A hot and humid day, close with some cloud cover, the sun hot when it breaks through.

An early goal as ICA Sports break from March’s corner kick the ball cleared up-field Nicholls racing away clear on the left drives in field towards the area, the March defence racing to get back plays in central to Carman Herridge, wants to return it to Nicholls but is closed down instead has a 2nd option racing up to support Hannah Murphy receiving the lay off 25 yards out connecting well to fire in a shot past goalkeeper Toni Sharpe before she can set herself. 0-1.

ICA Sports leading within the opening 5 minutes are looking sharp early on breaking quickly Sarah Rouse breaking up a March attack, Nicholls frustrated as she goes a fraction to early the flag raised against her as Murphy central looks to put it on over the top for her. March captain Adele Munday getting hold of the ball looks to carry it through the middle her determined run ended by Rouse.
GOAL! The visitors quickly find themselves race into a 2 goal lead. Nicholls a real threat attacking on the left gets away in behind this time pace on the ball travelling into the box left side into the six yard box time to way up her options players racing in central opens up her body to shoot a close range, the ball finding it’s way through the goalkeepers legs as she shapes to block. 0-2.

A great start for ICA Sports 2 goals to the good inside 10 minutes looking lively the ball won high up the pitch play turned around quickly forcing their opponents into rushing their passes. Murphy brought down central 30 yards out players forwards as Nicholls stands over the set piece into the area, headed clear, March unable to break ICA Sports straight back at them, the pass into Nicholls her ball forwards long. March struggling to get any sustained possession early on. A change for ICA Sports Piper Hebditch has taken a slight knock on the right, Tessa Morrison coming on.

Murphy attacking for ICA Sports right channel on for Herridge takes the ball on into the area Louise Billingham going with her for March the centre back winning the challenge, the ball gathered by Morrison wide right her cross long across the box Nicholls on it far side shapes to shoot across the keeper, Sharpe with an excellent save throwing out a glove to push the ball away. A slight delay then as for the 2nd week running somebody as left a present on the pitch the duty of clearing it up once again falling to the manager. An appropriate time for a drinks break is hot out there (enjoy it while it lasts).
ICA Sports on the front foot again from the restart Murphy seeing Nicholls making her move left sides aiming to put the ball over the top, too close to the keeper this time. March finding their feet growing into the game but ICA Sports remain a threat ready to break on the counter should they commit too many forwards. The ball cleared by the March defence after a spell of head tennis in the final third, Murphy free 35 yards out meeting it on the volley aiming to lob the keeper her strike dropping short safely caught by Sharpe. March struggling to get up to the pace of the game, Munday and Searle trying to get things going through the middle, Knibbs though largely untested so far. Attacking left Munday across to win the ball back the ball played long to Tombs pushing on down the left she plays another crossfield pass long for Grist attacking right down to the corner finds her way inside Antonucci to play the ball with the outside of her boot across the six yard box, McGarvie meeting it in the middle under challenge fires the ball wide across goal.

A positive start to the 2nd half from March sees a sot fired over from distance. Newton defending at the back chasing back with Nicholls as she looks to get onto the ball. Nicholls remains a threat on the left holding the ball up, Newton and Billingham doubling up on her, she ducks inside to lift a cross into the box the flag up against Hebditch on the right. Munday with a strong challenge getting the ball on for March to Grist right side looking to take the ball on checks back to square across the top of the area with McGarvie making a run so too Rouse in front of her intercepting.

March pull a goal back from an free-kick given against ICA Sports inside their own half, Newton on it plays another good delivery in towards the top of the area the ball knocked down central collected by Searle controls moves across the D to the right shift before unleashing a shot put across the keeper strikes the inside of the far post and nestles inside the back of the net 1-3.

A push in the back spotted against Herridge ICA Sports with a free-kick wide right, Nicholls sends it deep Murphy with a late run, getting onto the end of it her touch pushing it out from her feet puts her shot wide across the face of goal. ICA Sports starting to pick up the pace slow at the start of the first half push players on Luddy getting forwards into a shooting position outside the box 20 yards out fires the ball straight into the keeper.
Billingham kept busy by Nicholls on the wing the ICA Sports attacker not finding it so easy to get away 2nd half, far from out of it however. A drop ball as Murphy plays the ball against the back of the referees head trying to launch it forwards. Drop ball not contested this season Shields sends it forwards for Murphy having run up field left side into the box Tombs defends conceding the corner.
Combination play on the right between Nicholls and Hebditch on the right before a shot comes fizzing in across the six yard box Sharpe down smartly to push the ball away out to the left, ICA Sports keeping possession the ball flung in headed clear drops to Farchica 25 yards out her attempt back in falling wide of the mark. Lively now the sun hidden by clouds cooling things down. The March defence drawn to the ball a miscued clearance playing it on for Herridge allows the striker to set Nichols away in behind Billingham, Newton does well to get across a tackle to clear for a corner. The delivery long cleared at the far post.

A drinks break called changes made with Webb back on in place of Churchyard for March and Morrison back on for ICA Sports replacing Hebditch. Grist’s clearance over the clubhouse the ball lost on the road beyond. Grist taking the new ball forwards down the right covering plenty of grass into the corner doing well to win a corner.

GOAL! From the corner March score again comes in near side towards the top of the area defended but sliced on across the top of the D, Searle meeting it left 20 out hits it hard and straight through bodies finds its way in 2-4. 15 minutes left to play.
Nicholls brought down attacking left right on the edge of the area. Taking the free-kick the ball lifted in across goal safe in the hands of Sharpe, March look to counter quickly the ball carried over half way by Munday forwards for McLeish, Shields getting across her as the pair enter the area to safely marshal it back to her keeper. Newton stepping forwards out of the defence well intercepts as Nicholls aims to thread a ball through the middle for Herridge. Herridge herself attacking top of the area receiving the pass from Murphy finds herself crowded off the ball by Waters and Webb.
ICA Sports upping their intensity once again as they push on late on the game winning a corner on the right put into the box headed towards goal cleared off the line by Newton I think. Herridge after a long ball sent forwards on the right wing collects on the byline the game stretched players out of position Nicholls coming in field clear at the top of the area, Billingham recovers in the nick of time to race across to lung in and intercept the ball. Onto this afternoon’s Women’s Football East – Player of the Match award. A few contenders but in the end in came down to two. Hannah Murphy linking up the midfield and attack well passing wide with options available and making some good runs herself to get into scoring positions scoring 2 goals. Ahead of her though is Donna Nicholls, lively right from the first minute looking to get in behind and drive at goal, scoring 2 goals herself clinical and a danger when taking a free-kick.
An enjoyable first county league game to start the season, glad to have caught up with both sides, have no doubt the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership will be highly competitive this season. My thanks to both teams for the team details today always appreciated.
The Cambridgeshire Women’s football league got a whole load bigger over the summer as despite the number of league dropping the number of sides competing in them swells dramatically with 10 new names across a 13 strong Premiership (previously 8) and a single Championship boasting 15 sides (previously 12 across a Championship North & South).
Peterborough Northern Star Ladies Reserves move from Northamptonshire to join the Premiership whilst Cambridge City Ladies have added a 3rd women’s side. 4 sides promoted, St Ives Town Ladies Development, Haverhill Rovers Ladies, Ketton Ladies and Leverington Ladies (previously Wisbech Town Ladies). Going to be a competitive league. 10 of the 13 sides in action on the opening weekend.
Winning the Championship North last season, Ketton Ladies began their Premiership campaign with a trip to Histon Ladies Reserves. A strong season to clinch the title going all the way with Wisbech Town Ladies, Ketton got off to a great start scoring 4 goals with last seasons top scorer Fran Kavanagh opening this season with a brace. 47 goals for Kavanagh last season a potent attack with Claire Lawrenson who netted 27 goals. Lawrenson too getting her account opened with a goal along with one for Ellie Marson scoring her 1st for the club. Ketton winning 4-1. Histon’s goal scored by Amanda Binge.
Just as in the Championship North it was a hotly fought title battle in the Championship South with St Ives Town Ladies Development pipping Haverhill Rovers Ladies to the title. Both making their Premiership bow this weekend the pair on the road. Haverhill Rovers taking on Cambridge City Ladies new ‘A’ team. Haverhill entering their 2nd season together looking to push on put in a good performance against Cambridge City’s youngsters. Last season’s top scorer Joeli Kirby opening her account for the season with a goal along with assistant manager Kayleigh Steed plus an own goal securing a 3-1 win.
St Ives Ladies Development matched Haverhill Rovers score winning away to Riverside Ladies on the opening day. Losing heavily in the Women’s FA Cup, Riverside had a few more players available this weekend saw an improved performance, Gabija Pavlova scoring for the hosts, St Ives Town scoring 3 to win the game, Jade Carpenter with a brace along with a goal for Steph Ransome.
A good opening weekend for all the promoted sides with Leverington Ladies completing a quartet of wins. At home were taking on Netherton United Ladies who look to have improved their squad over the summer. Leverington formerly Wisbech Town Ladies, still the @FenLadies also adding to their squad getting off to the better start hitting the crossbar before Sophie Swinden top scorer last season with 43 goals made it 1-0. A slender lead at half-time Netherton improved 2nd half getting back on level terms with Emily Johnson on target. The game could have gone either way at that point, Leverington retaking the lead with Swinden netting a 2nd goal, Netherton pushed from a reply the hosts holding firm to start the season with a win.

A dramatic match to end the Premiership games on the opening day as ICA Sports Ladies and Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds shared 11 goals between them! The visitors seeing last season’s top scorer Marie Stubbing start the season with a brace, so too Ebony Rule returning to the club. Krissie Taylor also on the scoresheet. Fulbourn scoring 5 goals it wasn’t enough to see them take anything from the game as they were undone at the other end for 6. Donna Nicholls scoring a hat-trick, their were goals to celebrate too for Carmen Herridge, Danielle King and Clare Knibbs.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship
With the clubs arguing for it the Championship becomes one single league this season to be contested by 15 sides with 8 new sides joining the league, Isleham United Youth Ladies, Newmarket Town Women Development, Deeping United Ladies, Swavesey Spartans Ladies, Eaton Socon Ladies, Cambourne United Women, Haverhill Rovers Ladies Development and Mildenhall Town Ladies. Sad to lose Wisbech St Mary Ladies who were struggling badly towards the end of the season.
On the whole though it was a good opening weekend for the more established clubs some of whom had a tough campaign last time out. The exception being Cambridge Rangers Women, having tough seasons in the past last campaign saw them on the tails of Haverhill Rovers Ladies and St Ives Town for a long spell before finishing 3rd in the Championship South. Began the new season with a trip to newly formed Mildenhall Town Ladies. Good to see the club forming a women’s team after hosting FAWNL side Cambridge Unite WFC for 3 seasons. The Championship a far cry from the FAWNL it proved to be a tough start for Mildenhall fielding the bare 11. Erika Balskute getting a hat-trick on the opening day for Cambridge Rangers. Vanessa Martinez Ramos scoring twice there were goals too for Daniella Lewis and Stephanie Rowan in an 8-0 win.
Cambridge Rangers top of the pile after the opening weekends results but only on alphabetical order as their 8-0 winning scoreline was matched by Park Ladies. Tough going for Park in the Championship South last season the squad certainly got a lift to start the season as they hosted new side Cambourne United Women. Georgia Stimson netting a hat-trick for Park, there was a brace for Demi Newman with Sophie Fenner, Darcie Tegerdine and Francesca Piltsch all getting a goal apiece.
Now I tend to only tag the winning sides in each edition of the Round-Up and it’s with delight I can tag Burwell Tigers Ladies at last as they start the season with victory. Enduring a tough couple of seasons in the Championship South the squad has kept together and were overjoyed to record an opening day victory on Sunday away to new side Eaton Socon Ladies. Admittedly in was a much closer scoreline than the previous two matches with goals from Megan Seabrook, Hannah Dewey and Eve Hedley sealing a 3-2 win, but victory and the 3 points doing wonders for the confidence.
Pinchbeck United Ladies have make some good additions to their squad over the summer and with signs they were improving showing towards the end of last season in the Championship North they got off to a winning start at home to Isleham United Ladies on Sunday in their opening fixture. Courtney Walker scoring a hat-trick to see the match won 3-0.
Better results elsewhere for the new sides joining the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship. Deeping United Ladies beginning the season with an away match against Haverhill Rovers Ladies Development regrouping after being forced to withdraw from the Suffolk Women’s Division last season. Deeping securing the 3 points courtesy of a 2-0 win with Hannah Chapman scoring both goals.
A winning start too for Swavesey Spartans Ladies as they edged the victory at home to Hungate Rovers Ladies on the opening day of the season. Goals from Meadow Wooldridge, Charlotte Frostick and Alexandra Herbert seeing the newcomers win the match 3-2.
The season almost over in Cambridgeshire the League Cup Final to come this Thursday at St Neots having been postponed. The two sides contesting it in league action in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership this Sunday.
Cambridge City Ladies Development away to bottom side Riverside Ladies in the final game of the season for both. A strong performance form Cambridge City seeing them end the league campaign on a high winning 14 of their 15 league games to take them 12 points clear of ICA Sports currently 2nd. Cambridge City winning the game 8-0 with Rebecca Langthorpe and Bella Simmons both on target for a brace with a goal each for Emily Reed, Lucy Hurst, Anna Kanz and Yasmin Crow.
Their opponents on Thursday will be Cambridge University Women, currently 3rd they got a win too on Sunday at home against March Town United Ladies in their penultimate game of the season. A close game both yet to play each other this season the reverse fixture a week maximum points for either seeing them gain a position in the final standings. Emma Searle and Eleanor Mcleish scoring for March they were edged out to the 3 points Cambridge University scoring 3 against them, Shona Lester with a brace along with a goal for Lili Donlon Mansbridge. Cambridge University with one league match left moving to within 2 points of 2nd placed ICA Sports Ladies who have finished their season.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North
The Championship North going all the way the the final game of the season the top two neck and neck level on points facing each other on the last day of the season. Has been a tremendous tussle between Ketton Ladies and Wisbech Town Ladies losing just the one league game each… that against the other dominating elsewhere. Meeting 3 times in the league Ketton with a superior goal difference had home advantage but that was also the case 2 weeks ago when Wisbech Town beat them 2-1 to ensure the title battle went all the way.
Ketton with one final push getting the job done against a strong Wisbech side goals from Emma Ward, Danielle Marrison and a 47th goal of the season from Fran Kavanagh securing a 3-0 win and with it the title.

Wisbech Town Ladies missing out on the last game of the season have nevertheless had a fantastic season, a runners-up finish, reaching the semi-finals of both the League & County Cup along with going all the way in the Division One Cup final. Have also gained promotion to the Premiership next season.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South
Just like the Championship North the title battle in the Championship South went all the way to the final day of the season. Haverhill Rovers Ladies out in front for the whole campaign one defeat from their opening 13 games. The challengers St Ives Town Ladies Development playing catch up all season likewise having lost just the one game that against Haverhill on the opening day they returned the favour when the sides met again back in October. The Championship South sides like the North playing each other 3 times it was a blow for Haverhill in their penultimate game of the season last weekend as they lost to St Ives for a 2nd time going down 3-2 handing momentum to St Ives who could overhaul them right at the end with victory in their remaining two matches a double header this Sunday with Park Ladies.
Haverhill were at home playing Cambridge Rangers Women in their final game of the season. Goals from Sian Cottrell, Amy Evans, Abbi Griffin, Bethany-May Harding and Kayleigh Steed seeing Haverhill end on a positive note. Cambridge Rangers likewise will be pleased with a strong season that has secured them 3rd spot.
St Ives playing 2 hour long matches against Park Ladies getting the victories they needed to over take Haverhill and secure top spot winning the games 4-1 and 5-0. The goals coming from Jade Carpenter a hat-trick seeing her finish top scorer on 16 goals. A brace from Tierney Coulson, with Hannah Seymour-Shove, Fran Worrall and Kirsty Wicks also on the scoresheet along with an own goal.

One game from the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership this Sunday played with Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds and bottom side awarded the home win with opponents Netherton United Ladies and Histon Ladies Reserves pulling out of their final fixtures of the season. The game played a dress rehearsal for what was supposed to be the League Cup Final due to be played now this Wednesday evening a waterlogged pitch however seeing the game postponed and moves to Thursday 16th May at a new venue St Neots Town FC. The two opponents meeting in the league this weekend with Cambridge City Ladies Development hosting Cambridge United Women. Cambridge City winning the Premiership getting the win in their penultimate game in the league goals from Rebecca Langthorpe, Freya Standing and top scorer Megan Tonks seeing them win 3-0. Cambridge University in 3rd have 2 games left and need to win both if they hope to overhaul ICA Sports Ladies to clinch runners-up spot.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North
So it all comes down to 90 minutes on Sunday in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North, with Ketton Ladies and Wisbech Town Ladies ties at the top of the table on 39 points each having beaten each other once they play for a third and final time in their final game of the season Ketton the hosts this coming Sunday. A home win for Wisbech Town Ladies this Sunday the point awarded against Cardea Ladies who have secured 3rd place in the league.
Ketton at home were without top scorer Fran Kavanagh as they took on Hungate Rovers Ladies this Sunday. As it was Ketton strong in attack running out comfortable winners to collect the 3 points with a 10-1 win captain Beth Goodman scoring half that tally with 5 to her name, Sascha Smith bagging herself a brace with Danielle Marrison and Lauren McKeever also on the scoresheet. Ketton top on goal difference although whether that is a factor as with last seasons Championship South dead heat I am unsure, a win for either and they are champions.
Also in action on Sunday playing their final game of the season in the Championship North were Pinchbeck United Ladies at home to Wisbech St Mary Ladies contrasting ends to the seasons for both, Wisbech St Mary struggling slipping to the foot of the table. Pinchbeck on the other hand finishing in 4th winning 4 of thier last 5 league games. Courtney Walker netting a hat-trick for Pinchbeck in their final game of the season with Chloe Gray and Rebecca Navarette on the scoresheet in a 5-2 victory. Lauren Laws with both goals for Wisbech St Mary.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South
Two games from the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South this Sunday and as with their counterparts in the North it looks as though the battle for top spot with 2nd placed St Ives Town Ladies Development winning a thrilling encounter away to leaders Haverhill Rovers Ladies this weekend to close the gap to just 3 points with 2 games in hand. Goals from Sophie Cook, Fran Worrall and Caitlin McGeown seeing St Ives to a 3-2 victory. The title in St Ives hands now with nine points left to play for Haverhill with the better goal difference have one game left to play.
Both the top two having a game left to play with 3rd placed Cambridge Rangers WFC, who continued their fantastic season with a huge win away to bottom side Burwell Tigers Ladies on Sunday winning for the 9th time this season by double figures scoring 11 without reply.
Cambridge City Ladies Development are the Champions! Another county league title settled this season as they got the result on Sunday at home against Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds to win the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership title. Just a point needed in fact from their remaining 3 games, goals for Ellie Cullum, Rachel Littlewood, Bronte Rapley and a 31st goal of the campaign for Megan Tonks seeing Cambridge City win the game 4-0. A league and cup double secured now the aim the treble with the league cup final to come in a weeks time.

March Town United Ladies close the gap to 4th placed Fulbourn back to a point with a game in hand winning at home on Sunday in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership up against Histon Ladies Reserves. A goal each from Naomi McGarvie and Eleanor Mcleish her first goal for March seeing them to a 2-0 win.
March’s opponents in their final two games will be 3rd placed Cambridge University Women, 3 games left to play themselves can chase down 2nd spot with ICA Sports Ladies having finished their fixtures now just 5 points ahead. Cambridge University winning away from home against bottom side Riverside Ladies on Sunday. A 2-0 lead for the visitors at the break, didn’t have it all their own way 2nd half with Annie Posnett scoring twice for Riverside. Cambridge University matching that however to clinch a 4-2 win. Amanda Wainwright netting a brace along with goals for Lu Liu and Mariana Barona scoring her first goal for Cambridge University.

The title race in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North is still very much on and looks certain to go all the way to the final day with the top two meeting and 2nd placed Wisbech Town Ladies inflicting a first league defeat of the season upon leaders Ketton Ladies to close the gap back to 3 points with a game in hand. 12 straight wins for Ketton before this Sunday including a first league defeat over the season over Wisbech Town when the sides previously met in the league. 3 meetings between the sides in the league two to come both at Ketton including the last game of the season Wisbech travelled knowing nothing short of a win would do if they wanted to keep their ambitions of completing a double alive. Top scorer Sophie Swinden with her 41st goal of the season scoring for the visitors, Fran Kavanagh, top scorer for Ketton hitting her 46th goal of the season the score level at 1-1, Wisbech clinching the win with a late winner scored by Chelsea King. Their game in hand this Thursday against Hungate Rovers Ladies win it and they goal level on points with Ketton with both having 2 games left to play.
A dramatic game elsewhere in the Championship North with Pinchbeck coming back late on in their game away to 3rd placed Cardea Ladies to clinch the 3 points and move off the bottom of the table in the process. A 7 goal thriller, Pinchbeck drawing first blood an early lead scoring in the 6th minute. Cardea getting back on level terms with half an hour played Jessica O’Sullivan with the goal. Laura Rudd then firing Cardea into the lead in the 38th minute to see the hosts leading 2-1 at the break. Rudd scoring her 18th goal of the season seeing Cardea into a 3-1 lead early in the 2nd period. Pinchbeck coming back into the game well to pull it back to 3-2 before a dramatic finish, just 3 minutes left when they scored to pin Cardea back to 3-3 the visitors going on to score the winning goal in the final minute of the match to take it 4-3. Courtney Walker and Rebecca Navarette both celebrating a brace each.

In the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South, 2nd placed St Ives Town Ladies Development kept their title ambitions alive winning away to Burwell Tigers Ladies this Sunday. Taking home the 3 points with a 5-1 victory close the gap to leaders Haverhill Rovers Ladies to 6 points with 2 games in hand. A huge game this coming Sunday as St Ives travel to Haverhill Rovers.
A 2-0 away win over Burwell Tigers Ladies in midweek Isleham United Ladies were at home this Sunday playing their final league game of the season against Park Ladies. A brace from Lily Turner seeing Isleham drawing 2-2 with Park at half-time. Park with a much better 2nd half securing the win scoring a further 3 goals to see them consolidate 4th spot with a 4th win in 5 league games towards the end of the season a double header with St Ives Town Ladies Development to come. Sherrie Martin scoring a hat-trick for Park to put her on 17 goals for the season. Georgia Stimson with her first goal for Park and a penalty scored by Jemma Brown the other scorers.
Not one but two cup finals played in Cambridgeshire towards the end of last week, worthy of a mention in this weeks edition of The Round-Up. First up on Thursday it was the final of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Junior Invitation Cup, Cambridge City Ladies Development taking on Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds at Histon FC. Cambridge getting off to the better start however it was Fulbourn who opened the scoring on 15 minutes a break Marie Stubbings playing the ball on for Stacey Kemp to strike past the keeper form outside the box. The lead not lasting long with Freya Standing given time and space to line up a shot from distance the ball bouncing inside the post to make it 1-1. Midfielder Emily Reed scoring from the tightest on angles on the byline to put Cambridge into the lead.
2-1 up at half time Cambridge pressed for a 3rd goal at the start of the 2nd period Fulbourn with few chances Katie Luddy’s run and cross into the area seeing the ball presented to Stubbings at the top of the area she turned well to make it 2-2 with a clinical finish. Into the final 15 minutes a corner the ball cleared off the line the crossbar struck the ball dropping into the six yard bx players diving in the result a penalty to Cambridge. Bronte Rapley tucking it away to put Cambridge 3-2 up the goal enough to win the trophy, the first of a potential treble.
Cambridge City Ladies Development win the Junior Invitation Cup
24 hours later it was the final of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Division One Cup competition played at Ely City FC, St Ives Town Ladies Development taking on Wisbech Town Ladies. The Championship North side soon on top against thier Championship South opponents, Wisbech getting forwards top scorer Sophie Swinden putting a one on one opportunity against the keeper wide. The deadlock eventually broken on the half hour Wisbech pressing the ball Chloe Stanborough carrying it into the box shooting the ball pushed wide across goal captain Faye Kowalewsky there on the follow up to nod the ball into the back of the net. Stanborough coming close again striking the bar.
Wisbech remained on top for much of the game preventing St Ives getting forwards with any meaningful attacks in control but just 1 goal in it a 2nd would make thing’s more comfortable awarded a free-kick 35 yards out, Swinden over the ball goes for goal a well taken strike the ball high into the air dropped under the crossbar to put Wisbech 2-0 with less than 20 minutes to play. 2-0 the final score Wisbech Town Ladies winning this season’s Division One Cup.
Wisbech Town Ladies, 2018/19 Cambridgeshire Women’s Division One Cup Winners
Cambridge City Ladies Development are now just one win away from secured the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership title as they won 7-0 at home to March Town United Ladies this Sunday. Winning the Junior Invitation Cup one win from their last 3 games will see them crowned champions and win the double with the League Cup final also to be contested in May. Megan Tonks moving onto 30 goals for the season scoring a brace against March. There were goals too for Rachel Littlewood, Anna Kanz, Lucy Hurst and Ellie Cullum.
ICA Sports Ladies finished their season this Sunday with a home win against Histon Ladies Reserves, currently in 2nd position in the Premiership table 8 points clear of 3rd placed Cambridge University Women who have 4 games yet to play. Stu Afford stepping down as manager ICA Sports Ladies will be managed by Shaun Harley next season. Ended this campaign on a high goals from Jessica Farchina, Carman Herridge and Donna Nicholls securing a 3-0 win.
Buoyed by a good performance in the Junior invitation Cup Final on Sunday Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds were at home to Cambridge University Women on Sunday. The bare 11 for Cambridge University they played their part in a high scoring game with the sides sharing 8 goals, Lu Liu, Bernice Wood and Amanda Wainwright on target for 3 goals for the visitors. A hat-trick from Marie Stubbings taking her onto 21 goals for the season plus a goal each for Katie Luddy and Krissie Taylor seeing Fulbourn win the game 5-3 giving them an advantage in the quest for 4th spot in the table.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North
Like Cambridge City Ladies Development, Wisbech Town Ladies were soon back in action after their Cup success on Friday. Less than 48 hours later Wisbech Town Ladies were at home to Cardea Ladies. Sophie Swinden closing in on 40 goals for the season scoring a brace to take her to 38. Wisbech winning the game 5-1, Chloe Stanborough, Amy Newell and Yasmin Holmes on her debut with the other goals.

A full fixture list in the Championship South this Sunday. Leaders Haverhill Rovers Ladies maintaining their 9 point lead at the top of the table with a big away win against Isleham United Ladies. Joeli Kirby well ahead in the goal scoring charts bagging herself another 4 goals to take her onto 40 goals for the season. There were hat-tricks too for Kayleigh Nolan and Abbi Griffin with Kayleigh Steed also on the scoresheet.
Like Wisbech, St Ives Town Ladies Development were also in action less than 48 hours after playing in the Division One Cup final the 2nd placed side looking to keep the pressure on Haverhill with victory at home to 3rd placed Cambridge Rangers WFC got over there final disappointment creating some good opportunities to win the game 3-2 to maintain the 9 point gap with 3 games in hand.
A double header this Sunday between Park Ladies at home to Burwell Tigers Ladies, two 60 minute games played as they look to get their fixtures in. 6 points collected by Park taking them 6 points clear in fourth spot. The first game won 2-0 with Sherrie Martin scoring her 14th goal of the season and Francesca Plitsch finding the back of the net. The 2nd game won by 4 goals to 2, Sophie Fenner scoring a brace with 1st goals of the season for Victoria Brown and Charlotte Tweed.
Into April the finishing line in sight for a number of clubs the season soon coming to an end. Cambridge City Ladies Development 3 points clear at the top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership have 4 left to play, weren’t in action this Sunday but saw other results go their way. Just the one game played in the league at the weekend and it was a good result at home for Netherton United Ladies as they held third placed Cambridge University Women to a 0-0 draw. The big movers in the league Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds the latest side to leap from 7th to 4th courtesy of being awarded the 3 points for a home win over 2nd placed ICA Sports Ladies who now have just one mach left to play.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North
In the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship North leaders Ketton Ladies kept up their winning record 11 from 11 now to open up a 6 point lead at the top of the table. Ketton were at home this Sunday taking on 3rd placed Cardea Ladies. 25 goals for the season now for Claire Lawrenson as she celebrated scoring a hat-trick for Ketton. Fran Kavanagh once again amongst the goals to netting a brace to move onto 44 for the season. Ketton winning the game 5-1, Laura Rudd with the Cardea goal.
In the other game played in the Championship North there was a eye opening scoreline between Hungate Rovers Ladies & Wisbech St Mary Ladies with the hosts 2nd from bottom in the table racking up a double figure scoreline to win for just the 2nd time this season. Hungate Rovers ladies winning the game 10-0. Savanna Plavecz top scoring in the game netting a hat-trick. Also amongst the goals were Kelly McKenna scoring twice with a goal each for Ewelina Jerzak, Kate Neal and Kelly McManus the latter pair scoring their first goals of the season.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South
Three games left to play in the league now for Haverhill Rovers Ladies look on course for the title holding a 9 point lead at the top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship South. Freya Standing on target for a hat-trick for Cambridge their were goals to for Anna Kanz, Yasmin Crow, Lucy Hurst, Rachel Littlewood and Rebecca Langthorpe in an 8-0 win.
Cambridge City’s opponents in the League Cup Final will be Cambridge University Women after they knocked out current holders ICA Sports Ladies at the semi-final stage. Cambridge University at home, the sides going into half-time goalless. ICA Sports taking an early 2nd half lead. Cambridge University strong coming back to level the scores with a worldie from Eliza Croop. Went on to complete a hat-trick to put Cambridge University through to the final with a 3-1 win. It was Isleham United’s turn this weekend in a close win at home to Burwell Tigers Ladies. Laura Todd scoring a goal in each half enough to secure Isleham’s 2nd win of the season in a 2-1 result having been leading 1-0 at half-time.
