The Round-Up

ERWFL – Sunday 11th December

This weekend the focus was on the League Cup in the ERWFL with 6 ties scheduled to be played in the 3rd Round of the competition the sides playing for a place in the quarter-finals. Acle United Ladies were already through having received a bye after Great Wakering Rovers Ladies withdrew from the league.   That left 5 matches to be played in the ERWFL League Cup. The holders Colchester Town Ladies were at home against Premier Division leaders, Haringey Borough Women, have a new look squad this season as they began the defence of the trophy with a tough tie, created plenty of chances 1st half Haringey Borough goalkeeper Cherkish Young making some vital saves the score 0-0 at half-time. The Round-Up – ERWFL 30/10/16

The Round-Up

ERWFL – Sunday 30th October

Bad news to start this weeks ERWFL Round-Up, sad to write about a club withdrawing from the league, not the nly one across the East either as you will read in other Round-Up’s. From the ERWFL Premier Division, Essex side Great Wakering Rovers Ladies have folded. Struggling to fulfill fixtures this season joined with the men’s club 2 seasons ago having previously enjoyed a rapid rise up the leagues as Southendians Ladies. Wishing everyone inviolved with the club all the best for the future and hope to see their players continue in the game.

ERWFL Premier Division

That of course sees so adjustment in the ERWFL Premier Division table with their results no longer standing a blow for the club who had picked up a win loosing the 3 points. One of those sides was 2nd placed Haringey Borough Women had closed the gap on leaders Bedford Ladies to 4 points last Sunday. Losing 3 points had dropped back to a 7 point gap as they prepared to welcome the league leaders to their ground on Sunday. Close the gap back down to 4 points with a good result, winning 5-2 with both Klesha Darroux and Brooke Hills scoring a brace along with a goal from Julia Carruthers. Hannah Bodily and Priya Bhatti on target for Bedford Ladies who lose in the league for the 1st time this season.

AFC Dunstable Ladies are up to 3rd in the Premier Division table after they edged a close game away to Royston Town Ladies at the weekend. Goals from Lori Wilson-Phillips, Samaira Khan and Charlotte South enough to see them win all 3 points winning the match 3-2, Samantha Tinsley with a brace not enough for Royston to tae anything from the match.

AFC Sudbury Ladies climb up the table too into 4th place as they won away from home on Sunday, travelling to the Glassworld Stadium to play Histon Ladies. The visitors leading after just 7 minutes Stacey Teager brought down in the box, getting up to score the resulting penalty. Charlotte Churchman doubling AFC Sudbury’s lead 8 minutes later. Histon reduced the deficet to 2-1 at half-time Alison Wright getting their goal. AFC Sudbury went on to extend their lead 2nd half, Megan Partridge making it 3-1 then Sophe Jeffery made it 4-1 to seal the win.

Acle United Ladies having closed the gap in the leading pair in the Premier Division had lost ground on both Haringey Borough Women and Bedford Ladies dues to postponements, loose further ground after their away win at Great Wakering was chalked off. Drop two places in the table after the weekends resuts down to 5th after an away defeat. Travelling to Essex to play Writtle Ladies who have found some form recently winning their last 2 league fixtures at home. At home again this weekend goals from Abigail Fry, Georgina Tricker and Amy Simmons saw them to victory beating Acle United Ladies 3-1 Joanne Hooper with the goal in the 2nd half for the visitors.

Colchester Town Ladies drop to the bottom of the table after the league adjustment have found a little form of late. Were at home on Sunday playing fellow Essex side, Brentwood Town Ladies, goals from Georgia Box on 10 minutes and Nancy Butler on 17 saw Colchester take a 2-0 lead into the dressing room at half-time. Brentwood Town Ladies came back into the game 2nd half getting it level at 2-2 before going on to win all 3 points winning the game 3-2. Ashley Debnam scoring a brace with Angela Arnold also on the scoresheet.

ERWFL Division One

Bad news form Little Thurrock after the game losing a player due to a broken ankle, Women’s Football East wishes her the best in her recovery.

Having fought out a 1-1 draw in the league just 7 days ago, Colney Heath Ladies and Silver End United Ladies were playing each other again in the 2nd Round of the League Cup. At Silver End United it was another close contest with just a single goal settling the result.   The final whistle blows and Colchester Town Ladies win the ERWFL League Cup beating Silver End United Ladies 4-0. A strong 2nd half performance seeing them add 3 more goals to their half-time lead, gave the Division One East side little opportunity up the other end. A spirited performance from Silver End United just couldn’t match Colchester 2nd half.
