Match Report – KLSC FC Women v Aylsham FC Women

Sunday 30th November

Norfolk Women’s Division One

Well I certainly hadn’t intended to miss 3 weeks of the season, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. Various reasons, but back at it now and keen to get back into the action as we head into the final few weekends of 2025. The football coming from Norfolk Women’s Division One this Sunday with a trip to King’s Lynn to watch KLSC FC Women take on Aylsham FC Women.

A strong line up once again in Norfolk Women’s Division One, Bungay Town Ladies doing the double last season, will again be the team to beat this season, albeit under a different name as the women’s squad move to reform, Lowestoft Town Ladies. Making a 100% start to their league campaign with 5 wins from 5 so far. Cup competitions and poor weather affecting the first half of the season seeing several clubs playing just 4 or 5 matches so far in the league, teams still jostling for position, Mulbarton Wanderers Ladies Reserves leading the pack with Costessey Sports Ladies hot on their heels in 2nd.

Aylsham FC Women with a strong end to last season, powering their way up the table to clinch runners-up spot behind Bungay. Narrowly beaten by Bungay too in the League Cup final, aiming to use that to establish themselves as one of the leading sides in the county. A good start to the league this time around too, 3 wins from 3 to start the season collecting 36 points from a possible 36 in their last 12 games over both seasons that run coming to an end with a 3-1 home loss to Mulbarton Wanderers Reserves last weekend.

Aylsham are also through the last eight of both the League and County Cups. Taking on UEA FC Women in their county cup quarter final will guarantee an NWGFL side into the last 4 of the competition. A few changes within the squad to deal with losing some experience, bringing in some youthful talent. Have lost goalkeeper, Mya Parker to RWFL side Thetford Town Ladies, new recruit Fawnee Ansbro doing well in goal, with another new signing Tegan Lusher returning from an injury also a goalkeeper. Attacker, Marseilles Will joining Aylsham from Bungay. Sophie George (formerly Lubbock) joint top scorer along side Shelley Woods still going strong on 5 goals each.

KLSC (King’s Lynn Soccer Club) FC Women, now the only women’s side featuring for the town with the sad demise of King’s Lynn Town Ladies. Have established themselves firmly within the women’s football scene in their short history. Reaching the League Plate final last season losing out to Mulbarton Wanderers Ladies Reserves. Are like Aylsham through to the last eight of this season’s League Cup. Just missing out on a spot in the last eight of the county cup however beating by UEA FC Women on penalties after drawing 2-2.

A club with a strong youth section the women’s side seeing the benefits of that with players such as midfielders Lana Sturgeon and Bonnie Parsons bursting onto the scene last season recording some impressive displays. Continue to bring youth players into the women’s squad with a god balance of youth and experience within the group. Will look to build on last season’s strong mid-table finish, have found results tough so far in the league this campaign however with 1 win from 4 played so far but know they are capable of beating anyone on their day as they have proven on several occasions. 3 players currently sharing the top scorer position with Viktorija Burkauskaite, Tayla Miles and Lana Sturgeon all on 4 each.

The playing fields at Kings Way on Edward Benefer Road the venue for today’s match home to all KLSC’s matches, situated to the northern end of King’s Lynn, boasting several grass pitches, beyond the changing rooms and carpark. A youth game taking place on an adjoining pitch the women’s match on the furthest pitch, holding up well despite another day of heavy rain on the Saturday. None overnight however and with a little power left in the sun as we end November the game on. The sun setting behind the supporters on one side of the pitch with the dugouts opposite. Dry if a little muddy underfoot, good to get the camera and notepad back out.

Full time KLSC FC Women 2-3 Aylsham FC Women

The final whistle blows and Aylsham hold on to claim the 3 points. I did say the next goal wins it at 2-2 but I certainly didn’t expect as intense a finish to the match. Aylsham not taking their chance to get control of the game having gotten back into the lead midway through the 2nd half. Struggled to keep hold of the ball as KLSC pushed them hard for a reply, but for some crucial last ditch defending may well have been a different story but sometimes you have to win ugly back to winning ways keeping them 5th pushing the sides above. KLSC can feel hard done by a 3-2 win in their favour could just a easily been the result however they leave empty handed, but if anyone thinks they’re coming to the Kings Way playing fields for an easy game they’re in for a rude awakening.

Women’s Football East – Player of the Match

Onto this Sunday’s Women’s Football East – Player of the Match, a few contenders for this one and certainly hard to pick out a single individual, with two neck and neck throughout the notes. But pick one I will a few to mention first of course. For KLSC, Lana Sturgeon was outstanding in the middle closing the ball down, lively pro-active throughout with several strong runs on the ball, clos behind, Bonnie Parsons the pair linked up well kept KLSC on the front foot for much of the contest nipping in fast to win the ball getting it up to the attackers. Lauren Moyse strong up top powerful on the ball hard to shake off scoring and winning the penalty. Stella Astle win a couple of vital saves to keep her side in it till the end. For Aylsham, Shelley Woods was composed throughout using the ball well, opening the scoring going on to score her hat-trick from the spot. Piking a defender after a game like this might be controversial but nevertheless and despite some of the pressure being of their own making the contribution to the game can’t be ignored, Charlotte Crane was well paced to make some crucial interceptions throughout the contest and read the game well stepping up when needed. The award however goes to Sophie Buckley, KLSC were nearly through on goal on a few occasions late in the 2nd half and without her well timed and composed defending in a pressure situation the score-line might have been very different.

It feels good to be back after a 3 weekend hiatus, a lively contest from Norfolk to rekindle things. My thanks to both sides for their help with the team line-ups today too as always is much appreciated.

Match Report – KLSC FC Women v UEA FC Women

Sunday 20th April

Norfolk Women’s Division One

Easter Sunday and not too many fixtures around with people off enjoying the extended bank holiday weekend, a busy program in Norfolk however so it’s back to Division One this Sunday to catch up with two sides I missed out on seeing earlier in the season with KLSC FC Women taking on UEA FC Women.

As mentioned last time out Norfolk Women’s Division One looks to be defending champions, Bungay Town Ladies to lose having lost just the one league game so far this season. Behind them however it remains incredibly tight with clubs all the way through the table proving they are capable of putting a good run together and climbing up the table, including both of today’s opponents.

KLSC (King’s Lynn Soccer Club) FC Women certainly looking to climb the table having fallen into the bottom 2 in the table due to a lack of matches from call-offs and cup competitions. That said have games in hand with a busy end to the season ahead including a cup final appearance having reached the final of the Women’s Plate where they will face Mulbarton Wanderers Ladies Reserves on Sunday 18th May (presumably not at five to midnight as currently listed). The club entering a new chapter winning promotion back to Division One last season have since their formation relied on the goal scoring prowess of Josie Turner, often amongst the leafing scorers in the league her goals will be missed.

The club moves forwards however in a strong position with a good youth section with teams from U7 through to U16s in the girls section to compliment the women’s side. Winning just 2 and drawing 1 of their opening 9 matches a lack of games seeing them fall down the table, were to bring an end to Bungay’s unbeaten run at the top of the league in March, another win against Bure Valley seeing the club push up on the sides competing in the middle of the pack. Lucy Clarke the leading scorer so far this season with 6 goals with Katie Ward on 5 and Leeanne Smith on 4.

UEA (University of East Anglia) FC Women won the Norfolk Women’s League Cup last season, beating Bungay 2-0 to lift the cup. A new ear for the club at the beginning of this season with players moving on and a new manager with, Rebecca Burton formerly coach at ERWFL side, Wroxham Women returning to the game. UEA with an extensive sports program with multiple sides across many sports the women’s football side competing in the BCUS league as well and Norfolk Women’s Division One usually with a good pool of talent to call upon with several players dual signed with other clubs across the county.

35 players called upon so far this season after and somewhat up and down start the club finally found it’s feet in the league towards the beginning of December going on an 8 games unbeaten run winning 5 and drawing 3 to climb all the way to 2nd in the Division One table. A narrow defeat and home draw against Bungay since leaves UEA well placed 4th in the table with a top 3 finish more than achievable. Goals scattered throughout the side, Evie Bloom and Nyanzobe Fundikira joint top scorers with 4 apiece. Melly Bungay and Shay Moses have 3 each.

The King’s Way Playing Fields the venue for today’s match. Situated in the northern part of King’s Lynn. The playing fields with a number of grass pitches available. The KLSC players setting up the goals and pitch prior to kick-off. The grass pitch well covered and firm with the recent dry weather, a roped off area for spectators opposite the dugouts. A pleasant sunny afternoon, with no chance of rain, a slight breeze blowing but for a bank holiday weekend, excellent.

Match Report – KLSC FC Women v Aylsham FC Women

Sunday 18th February

KLSC FC Women v Aylsham FC Women

For the 2nd weekend running heavy overnight rain across the region has played havoc with the women’s football fixtures with a large number of league and cup games falling foul to waterlogged pitches. Once again my first choice game called off , but as ever there are plenty of alternatives to choose from and an opportunity to see someone else in action so this Sunday it’s a short trip to King’s Lynn to watch KLSC FC Women play Aylsham FC Women in Norfolk Women’s Division One.

Norfolk seeing a host of new sides joining the women’s league this season as the game continues to grow at a pace. With 8 new sides in a 14 strong Division Two and another new side Costessey Sports Ladies joining Division One 5 sides were pushed up from Division Two into Division One this campaign. The increase in teams hasn’t seen the comparable increase in new players and this has left squad stretched at times with dual signings often competing with unavailability and injuries, a stop start season for some clubs. Division One seeing a strong contest for the title emerging nevertheless.

Aylsham FC Women and KLSC FC Women finishing 1st and 2nd respectfully in Division Two last season to win promotion to Division One, joined by Mulbarton Women Development, North Walsham Angels Ladies and Thorpe St Andrew Women.

KLSC (King’s Lynn Soccer Club) FC Women finishing runners-up in Division Two last season 2 points behind champions Aylsham FC Women, the pair emerging on top of what was a competitive title race. Have made a solid debut in Division One sitting comfortably in mid-table winning 4 and drawing one of their 9 matches so far taking 7 points from their opening 4 league games. Josie Turner has always had a great scoring record where ever she’s played and has continued that trend with KLSC finding the back of the net for 38 goals last terms is once again leading the scoring charts for KLSC his time around with 10 goals from 6 appearances.

Aylsham FC Women going undefeated in their debut season to win the Division Two title lasts season, winning all but 2 of their 20 league matches, clinching the title two point ahead of KLSC FC Women. Bringing together a squad of experienced players led by captain Jordan Arnoup who was in hot form in front of goal herself last season breaking the back of the net for 39 goals to become top scorer in the league. Aylsham promoted to Division One finding life a lot tougher, struggling for numbers at times due to work commitments, injuries lost their opening 3 league matches, however 7 points from their next 3 fixtures pulled them free of the bottom, in 9 will be aiming to push on into mid-table, new sighing Australian, Billie Myall top scorer for Aylsham with 7 goals to her name so far in her debut campaign. Arnoup one goal behind on the score sheet for 6 so far.

With the heavy rain predicted once again for the weekend, KLSC FC Women planned ahead and booked their local 3G pitch ready for use should their grass pitch on King’s Way Playing Fields be deemed unplayable which was highly likely. A wise decision the game switched to the Alive Lynn Sport 3G pitch, the heavy rain blowing through west to east likely to clear before kick-off leaving a slightly overcast but bright afternoon. The well used sports facility caged on 3 sides with viewing for spectators on one side of the pitch beside the sports hall.

For Aylsham the defence as a whole read the game well and all made some vital tackles further forwards Georgie Bobbin with some strong tackling in midfield handed the momentum to Aylsham early on and set the tone for the first half hour. Flo Simpkin got forwards well to support the attack with some great attacking runs. Gabrielle Cobb worked tirelessly up top to create opportunities for herself and her teammates and was unfortunate not to score. Edging it though today’s award goes to Rhiannon Dack her surging run and resulting cross into the box putting Aylsham into the lead, was a constant outlet out on the right linking up with Cobb and headed home the winning goal.

Great to catch up with both sides today, another weather hit weekend but I stayed dry. An entertaining contest my thanks to both sides for their assistance today.
