All starting to look very interesting at the top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership with a 3 way tie at the top of the table with Peterborough Northern Star Ladies moving top on goal difference joining Leverington Sports Ladies and Haverhill Rovers Ladies who were both in cup action this weekend on 15 points with their 3rd straight league win. A 4-3 win over Leverington last weekend were at home this weekend to another side making a good start to the season ICA Sports Ladies. PNS Reserves scoring plenty of goals averaging 4 a game so far this season were prolific in front of goal once again whilst keeping a clean sheet up the other end winning the game 3-0. Ella Gavaghan netting a brace with one for Georgia Clarke.
Also a 3rd straight win in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership for March Town United Ladies climbing up into 5th in the table now their good run continuing at home on Sunday against Histon Ladies Reserves. March coming out on top in a 7 goal thriller despite finding themselves trailing 2-0 at half-time. A brace for Jordan Turner moving her ahead in the goal scoring charts with 6 for the season plus a 5th of the season each for Emma Searle and Eleanor McLeish seeing them comeback to edge the 2nd half 4-3. Sophie Hopkin, Molly Blair and Lucy Watson getting the goals for Histon.
Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup
This weekend saw the quarter finals of this season’s Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup taking place. The top three in the Premiership at the start of the day involved two meeting in the last 8 Haverhill Rovers Ladies hosting St Ives Town Ladies Development. A narrow 2-1 away win for St Ives in the league 2 weeks ago it was another Haverhill piling on the pressure just couldn’t find the goal, St Ives battling to keep them out, Francesca Worrall taking one of the chances St Ives had to see them win their 5th game in a row and in the process reach the last 4 of the League Cup.
Leverington Sports Ladies were at home taking on Cambridge University Women in the quarter finals of the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup. Cambridge University reaching the final last season. The first half ending goalless Cambridge University broke the deadlock in the 2nd period adding a 2nd whilst keeping a clean sheet to win 2-0 to advance into the semi-finals. Amanda Wainwright and Anna O’Leary with the goals.

A high scoring match in the quarter finals between Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds and Netherton United Ladies the weekend in the League Cup the pair sharing 10 goals between them Fulbourn with early chances it was Netherton who would open the scoring on 12 minutes Emily Johnson slotting the ball into the corner from a well practised corner routine. Jenna Nairn doubling Netherton’s lead midway through the 1st half scoring from a free-kick. Yasmin Green adding a 3rd goal on 38 minutes to see Netherton leading 3-0 at half-time. Fulbourn pulling a goal back straight away at the start of the 2nd half. Green restoring Netherton’s 3 goal advantage in the 55th minute, Johnson adding a 5th goal soon after to put Netherton into a comfortable lead, Fulbourn though pulled it back to 5-2 panic creeping into Netherton the pressure exerted by Fulbourn bringing the hosts a 3rd goal. 15 minutes left Netherton getting a free-kick 20 yards out Georgina Parrett the taker sending it home to put the visiting side 6-3 ahead. Fulbourn never gave up awarded a late penalty scored Netherton into the last four winning 6-4. A goal for Marie Stubbings plus a hat-trick for Krissie Taylor the scorers for Fulbourn.
The last quarter final to report on featured the one Championship side left in the competition Swavesey Spartans Ladies at home to Premiership side Riverside Ladies in the last 8 of the League Cup. A tough season for both in the league Riverside have saved their best form for the League Cup and were the stronger side at the weekend winning the match 4-0 to reach the semi-finals, 4 different goalscorers, Kerry Camwell and Jess Hill both on target for their 4th goals of the season. Chrissy Blake and Amelia Roberts also finding the back of the net for the visitors.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship
The leaders Cambridge Rangers Women not in action this weekend it was a chance for 2nd placed Mildenhall Town Ladies to close the 7 point gap as they took on Deeping United Ladies at home on Sunday in the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship. Charlotte Nash opening the scoring putting Mildenhall into the lead in the 10th minute. Lydia Vince adding a 2nd in the 35th minute to put Mildenhall 2-0 up at half-time. A quickfire double form Nash and top scorer Katie Hayes midway through the 2nd half making thing’s more comfortable for Mildenhall going on to win the match 4-0 and close the gap to the top to 4 points.
Eaton Socon Ladies climb back up into 3rd place in the Championship table with a convincing result away from home on Sunday against Cambourne United Women. Two players on target with their first goals of the season, Kayleigh Clark and Gemma Cooksley. Hannah Hutchinson with her 6th of the season their were goals too for Jemma Bleakley, Cara Howell and Cerys Richards. The final score 6-0.
A battling performance for 10 player Newmarket Town Women Development saw them earn a point away to Hungate Rovers Ladies at the weekend. Talia Irvine scoring her 9th goal of the season as Newmarket got themselves into a first half lead. Hungate without a win on the board yet this season coming back to earn their 3rd draw in the Championship, Kesley Ramm with the goal to see it finish 1-1.
An improved performance from Park Ladies saw them pick up a good result away from home in the Championship on Sunday as they won their 3rd game of the season up and down in form so far this season this weekend on the up scoring 8 goals whilst keeping a clean sheet away to Burwell Tigers Ladies. A hat-trick each for Georgia Payne and Francesca Piltsch, with a brace for Georgia Stimson keeping her ahead in the goals scored chart.
Thorpe United Ladies remain 6 points clear at the top of Norfolk Women’s Division One after they continued their 100% winning start to the season with an 8th straight win at home to bottom side Freethorpe Ladies on Sunday the fixture reversed due to the weather affecting Freethorpe’s pitch. Thorpe scoring plenty of goals this season in particular captain Rebekah Lake moving onto 21 for the season netting a brace at the weekend. Braces too for Laura Hedtke and Bryony Knights her first goals for the club. Natasha Levesley, Joanne Hooper and Alice Ladbrooke all getting on the scoresheet too with a goal each in a 9-0 win.
Thorpe now the only unbeaten side in the league as another 100% record fell at the weekend as Tavern Ladies promoted to Division One lost for the first time this season away to Sprowston Ladies who as a result of the win join them on 18 points and go 2nd in the table. A good first half for Sprowston taking a 3-0 lead into the changing room at half-time added a 4th in the 2nd period whilst keeping a free scoring Tavern out at the other end to keep a clean sheet and win 4-0. Victoria Leyer racing way ahead in the goal scoring charts moving to 23 for the season scoring a hat-trick. Chelsea Brister also celebrating a goal for Sprowston.
After an indifferent start to the season back in Division One following promotion Fakenham Town Ladies finding some form are now up to 5th in the league as they take their unbeaten run in all competitions to 5. A bare 11 drawing 0-0 away to Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves last weekend Fakenham were back at Clipbush Park this weekend hosting the reverse fixture. Despite going 1-0 down Fakenham came back 2nd half to win the game 4-2. Holly Davies with a 25 yard screamer opening her account for the season. An own goal. Sophie Lubbock scoring her 8th of the season and Karina Townsend with her first of the season seeing the 3 points won for Fakenham.

Kate Morris with a brace moves onto 5 for the season. 5 goals for the season too now for Rachel Bussey also getting a goal with Katie Fray scoring her first of the campaign in a 4-1 win. Norfolk Ladies League Cup
A local derby as Beccles Town Ladies hosted Bungay Town Ladies in the 2nd Round of this seasons League Cup. An end to end game Beccles taking the lead Lucy Robbens with the through ball to set-up Lola Barber-King to make it 1-0. Bungay coming back to equalise close to the end of the first half to see the sides drawing at the break Grace Storey with the goal. Bungay awarded a penalty Selina Rowland putting the visitors into the lead in the 2nd period. The game remaining end to end Beccles bringing on a couple of subs Francesca Catchpole finding the back of the net for her 4th goal in 2 matches to send the game into extra-time. Both sides creating chances Bungay getting their noses in front going 3-2 ahead with Porsha Renwick scoring what would prove to be the winning goal and send Bungay into the quarter finals.

Stalham Town Ladies continue to set the pace in Norfolk Women’s Division Two winning again on Sunday to remain 6 points clear at the top of the table. Following on from a 15-0 home win over bottom side Bulldogs Ladies last side were again at home this Sunday entertaining Mulbarton Belles. Stalham’s strong form in front of goal continued top scorer Amber Mayhew netting a brace to take her onto 12 for the season. A brace to for Lalaine Davey her first goals of the season. Emma Gillespie and Sophie-Jayne O’Connor also getting a goal apiece in a 6-2 win. Mulbarton’s goals scored by Evie Hards in her first appearance for the club.
Thorpe United Ladies Reserves move back into 2nd spot in the Norfolk Women’s Division Two table with a narrow 2-1 win away to bottom side Bulldogs Ladies on Sunday, travelling with the bare 11 Thorpe led 0-1 at half-time, Rachel Hardy scoring her 5th goal of the season for Bulldogs. Thorpe with a 2nd goal winning the 3 points thier goals scored by Sophie Jermy and Annika Skoog.
Horsford Women won their 2nd match of the season at home to North Walsham Angels Ladies to join them on 6 points on Sunday in Division Two, a fantastic strike from Ella Wright along with an own goal seeing Horsford to a 2-1 victory.
Harlow Town Ladies extend their winning run to 10 games in the league to move 9 points clear of the chasing pack in the ERWFL Premier Division. At home on Sunday taking on bottom side Haringey Borough Women. An emotional win too achieving a double figure scoreline getting off to a good start the goals flowing. 22 goals for the season now for top scorer Becky Shephard a poignant a special hat-trick scored on Sunday, thought are with her at this time. Plenty of goals to amongst the squad this season too with both Abbey Dell and Beth Chambers scoring a brace each with goals too for Frances Gamble, Georgia Box and captain Kaydee King. The final score 10-2.
Royston Town Women starting the day in 2nd spot in the ERWFL Premier Division travelled to play Bedford Ladies at the weekend. Royston with a string of early chances, a keenly fought match goalless at the break was to end in frustration for the visitors, Bedford capitalising to score the only goal of the game to win it 1-0, Maya Sidhu with the goal getting Bedford back to winning ways.

Making the trip to Norfolk this weekend to play Wymondham Town Ladies. The hosts starting the brighter taking the lead inside the opening 5 minutes, Rebecca Russell playing in top scorer Hannah Waters to make it 1-0. PNS coming back to level the scores in the 15th minute. A competitive contest Wymondham retaking the lead 5 minutes later with Chelsea Clarke sending a shot across the keeper. Back came PNS to equalise, the visitors going on to score two goals late in the first half to lead at the break 4-2. A 2 goal cushion PNS went on to add a 5th goal before the hour finishing up winning the match 6-2. Jessica Driscoll dual signed with Milton Keynes Dons Ladies scoring a hat-trick on her first appearance for PNS. Goals too for Emma Pollard, and top scorer Leah Cudone with Chanade Henderson scoring her first goal of the season.
The ERWFL Premier Division where the action on Women’s Football East came this weekend a trip down to Essex to watch the match between Bowers & Pitsea Ladies and Luton Town Ladies. Bowers & Pitsea’s recent form improving back to back wins coming into the game have added Terry Harrison to the management team. Luton relegated from the FAWNL making a good start to the season themselves blooding alot of youngsters plenty of talent within the club, 16-year-old Ellie Sergeant handed her first start. The wind at their backs a solid defensive display from Luton, Bowers & Pitsea enjoying more of the possession moving the ball well without creating much in front of goal. Luton happy to sit back taking the lead midway through the first half, as route one a goal as you’ll see goalkeeper Kezia Hassell kicking the ball forwards travelling with the wind behind it missed by the Bowers & Pitsea centre backs attacker Rebecca Kane running onto it in the clear to place wide of the keeper. Erica Byron firing in a superb strike from outside the box to double the lead.

One outstanding match from the group stages of the league cup played this Sunday to decide the winner of Group B. Millwall Lionesses and Cambridge City Ladies Development finishing level on points goal difference not counting. The pair going head to head again a thrilling 4-4 draw the last time they met. Cambridge the hosts this Sunday Millwall pressing for a goal in the first half not taking their chances the pair goalless at half-time, Cambridge improving in the 2nd half two young sides showing plenty of energy, Millwall ending the game strong Cambridge goalkeeper Tee Mhunduru with a couple of saves, in the end the 90 minutes couldn’t separate them and the game heading into extra-time both sides tiring Millwall awarded a penalty Shannan Drewe sending her spot kick over was to make amends in the 2nd period of extra-time a mazy run ending with a goal enough to see Millwall secure victory and progress to the knock-out stages of the League Cup, Cambridge going into the Plate competition.
ERWFL Division One North
With leaders Cambridge City Development in cup action this weekend it was a chance for the sides below to close the gap to the top once more. Frustration for 2nd placed East Bergholt United Ladies last time out losing 4-2 to AFC Sudbury Ladies were at home playing Newmarket Town Ladies this weekend. As it was defences stood firm as the pair battled out a goalless draw to both take a point from the match enough to keep East Bergholt 2nd 3 points back from the leaders.
Coming up the rails at a gallop are King’s Lynn Town Ladies up to 3rd in the ERWFL Division One North table with a 4th straight league win. Bar a penalty shootout loss are unbeaten in 7 now in all competitions. The Norfolk side travelling down into Suffolk this weekend to play Needham Market Women. King’s Lynn making a strong start leading within 2 minutes a 2nd coming before 10 minutes were on the clock, Needham Market coming back creating chances King’s Lynn getting the better of the hosts to score twice more to lead 4-0 at half-time. King’s Lynn holding their advantage deep into the 2nd period Needham Market with a late fightback, Sasha Diston letting fly from 30 yards with 16 minutes left finding the top corner to make it 4-1. Captain Nicola Henderson with a goal a minute later also hit from 30 yards out bringing it back to 4-2. 10 minutes left Henderson with another long range hit getting it back to 4-3. The hosts tails up pressing forwards in search of an equaliser King’s Lynn exposing the high line to get forwards a score a 5th goal to seal the win 5-3 in the 88th minute. Emma Corbyn with a pair. AFC Sudbury Ladies travelled up to the Norfolk coast at the weekend looking to build on last Sunday’s win against East Bergholt as they took on bottom side Gorleston Ladies still looking for their first point since joining the ERWFL. A close contest Gorleston unlucky not to get more from the match as they went down narrowly 3-2. AFC Sudbury with back to back wins up to 5th in the Division One North table, goals from Olivia Gunn, Rebecca Stephenson and Amy Thompson securing the 3 points despite the visitors ending with 10 players Evie Creaton sent off for collecting 2 yellow cards. Sophie Gillett and Nicole Sheldrake with her first of the season scoring for Gorleston.
ERWFL Division One South
One game played in ERWFL Division One South this weekend and it was a good result at home for newly promoted Leigh Ramblers Ladies their recent good form continuing their unbeaten run up to 4 matches now with 3 wins on the bounce. Taking on 4th placed Stevenage Women Development a brace from Rebecca Dalgarno along with a goal each for Georgia Holdaway, Kate Newton and Lucy Dalgarno seeing Leigh Ramblers to a 5-1 win that moves them level on points with 2nd placed Millwall Lionesses who they play this coming Sunday. Hannah Marshall scoring the goal for Stevenage.
Watford Ladies top of the Southern Premier Division made the long trip down to the South West to play their final match of 2019 away to 3rd placed Plymouth Argyle Ladies looking to go 3 points clear at the top of the table. A tough test with Plymouth not dropping point since the opening day of the season. The game played at Plymouth’s, Home Park the new Mayflower Grandstand being used for the first time. Plymouth starting the match strongly Zoe Cunningham with an early chance. Helen Bleazard putting Plymouth into the lead in the 21st minute sending a free-kick into the roof of the net. Bow Jackson quickly making it 2-0 her long range drive finding the bottom corner. Watford reducing the deficit quickly the ball won in the corner played into Helen Ward to set up Ocean Rolandsen to score. 3 minutes later the scores were level captain Helen Ward volleying in from a corner. An eventful first half Plymouth retaking the lead in the 39th minute Cunningham striking from outside the area. Watford again coming back to level the scores with 2 minutes left on the clock winning another corner Emma Beckett rising highest to head home .
3-3 at half-time the 2nd half no less dramatic. Watford awarded a free-kick out wide Emma Beckett taking on the shot despite the angle finding the top corner to put the visitors ahead for the first time in the game in the 51st minute. Plymouth’s turn to come back 10 minutes later Rebecca Dandridge finding time and space to let loose a shot from outside the area to make it 4-4. Watford then temporarily reduced to 10 players with Ryah Vyse sin binned. The visitors digging in and going on to score with 15 minutes left Andrea Carid with a fantastic diving header at the back post to put away Adekite Fatuga-Dada’s cross. Watford winning a thriller 5-4 to go 3 points clear at the top. August the last time Plymouth tasted defeat.
No less a thriller in the other game played in the Southern Premier Division this weekend with 7 goals shared between Oxford United Women and Yeovil Town Ladies. Oxford hosting taking the lead midway through the first half Gemma Sims scoring direct from a corner the ball hitting the post and rebounding in. The game end to end at times Yeovil getting back on level terms in the 37th minute Laura Williams with a left foot shot from distance to fly in over the keeper. The visitors grabbing the lead in the final minute of the first half Kelly Aldridge on target with her 5th of the season to see Yeovil leading 2-1 at the break. The visitors side strengthening their lead with nearly an hour played Williams with more good work on the ball cutting inside to shoot and score. Williams seeing her hat-trick denied by the post. 3-1 down Oxford fought back well Emily Allen heading home to reduce the deficit with her 9th of the season the game entering the final 15 minutes. Oxford piling on the pressure Georgia Timms put through to score and bring it back to 3-3. 2 minutes later Kayleigh Hines heading home from a corner to put the hosts 4-3 ahead and see them win the match.
FAWNL South East Division One
Ipswich Town Women’s fine form continues as they open up a 4 point lead at the top of the table were back in league action this weekend after a run of 3 cup matches taking in 2nd bottom Cambridge United WFC who in contrast were playing for the first time competitively since the end of October. Ipswich announcing the signing of goalkeeper Lucy Williamson from Brighton & Hove Albion before the game straight into the starting line-up. Ipswich on the front foot from the off creating chances have scored 28 in their last 3 matches. Taking the lead on 15 minutes through top scorer Natasha Thomas a bullet header from Sophie Peskett’s cross. The post struck soon after. Anna Grey set-up by Thomas to score from 12 yards to double the lead in the 38th minute. Cambridge awarded a penalty late in the first period Williamson guessing the right way making the save to preserve the hosts clean sheet at half-time. Ipswich pressing the advantage at the start of the 2nd half captain Amanda Crump turning home Peskett’s cross as she gets free to cross on the right. 3 minutes later Thomas fires home her 2nd of the match Peskett again the provider. Peskett having had an assist in three goals getting one herself on the hour Thomas playing her in to make it 5-0. Cambridge striking the crossbar as close as they would get Ipswich keeping a clean sheet to win the game 5-0.
AFC Wimbledon Ladies are up to 2nd in the South East Division One table as their unbeaten run start to the season in the league continued away to bottom side Kent Football United on Sunday. Difficult playing conditions rain falling Wimbledon opening the scoring on 16 minutes captain Katie Stanley turning in the rebound after Liz O’Callaghan’s shot was batted away by the keeper. Wimbledon creating chances Kent’s defence battling, the single goal the difference heading into the break Stanley making it 2-0 from a corner in the final moment shooting through the melee her 8th goal of the season. Kent continuing to battle Wimbledon looking for a 3rd goal not finding it until the final couple of minutes second half substitute Georgia Heasman making the run and scoring to see the game won 3-0.
Plenty of goals elsewhere in South East Division One on Sunday, a fast start for Enfield Town Ladies saw them take control of the game early at home to Norwich City Women. Rachel Kosky on target to give the hosts the lead inside 3 minutes. Just 3 minutes later Enfield were 2-0 up striker Katherine Long getting the goal a 3rd coming just 2 minutes later with defender Claire Ford making it 3-0. Norwich on the back foot Enfield pressing the advantage Tyra Mills finding the back of the net to see Enfield 4-0 up midway through the first half Danielle Smith scoring 2 minutes later to see the hosts 5 up with just 25 minutes played. Long with her 2nd of the game seeing Enfield into a commanding 6-0 lead at half-time. A quieter 2nd period. Reeanna Cook pulling a goal back for Norwich, Hope Armstrong in goal for the visitors saving a penalty. Long went on to complete her hat-trick in injury time to get her 10th goal of the season the game won 7-1.
10 goals shared between AFC Basildon Women at Stevenage FC Women on Sunday in South East Division One. Alex Bailess credited with the goal as the her first of the season in the opening minute as she comes in on the follow-up after a blocked shot. Chances falling for both sides Basildon taking a 2-0 lead just past the half hour with striker Holly Turner scoring. Stevenage skipper Amy Makewell pulling it back to 2-1 with 5 minutes left in the first half floating the ball over the keeper. Kelly Weathall restoring Basildon’s 2 goal lead in the closing moments of the 1st half. 3-1 up at half-time Stevenage getting a goal back straight away at the start of the 2nd half. Erin Pope firing in a rocket to make it 3-2. Weathall tapping in on the rebound after getting one on one with the keeper to make it 4-2 in the 52nd minute tapped home a 3rd 3 minutes later to complete her hat-trick and see Basildon leading 5-2. The game into the final 10 minutes Makewell getting it back to 5-3 for Stevenage. Jodie Osborne in the final minute on target to put Basildon 6-3 ahead. Ashleigh Deacon striking into the bottom corner for Stevenage’s 4th in stoppage time. A 6-4 victory for Basildon their run of league wins extending to 3.

Last of the match action to bring you from the FAWNL this week sees Actonians Ladies extend their unbeaten run to 6 matches in all competitions, winning 5 and drawing 1. At home in the league this weekend taking in Cambridge City Ladies. The visitors with a good chance early on, a fairly even 1st half ending goalless. Cambridge City having an appeal for a penalty denied early in the 2nd period, Actonians going on to take the lead with Justine Buckmire on target to make it 1-0. Buckmire adding a 2nd goal soon after to extend Actonians lead the hosts comfortable in defence to win the 3 points.

Bowers & Pitsea Ladies playing at the highest level the club has been at winning promotion to the ERWFL Premier Division last season following a 2nd placed finish in Division One collecting their first piece of silverware too the Essex Women’s Trophy. Going from strength to strength since becoming Bowers & Pitsea having previously been Little Thurrock Dynamo’s. The main club itself housing excellent facilities that ground undergoing redevelopment. The core of the squad made up of players who have been with the club since it started this season bringing in a few new faces to bolster the ranks, Donna Fletcher from Hatfield Peveral, also joining from Hatfield Peveral attacker Yasmin Cowley who scored plenty of goals for her previous club as Hatfield rose through the league injured for much of last season undertaking a scholarship in America come the end of the season. Danni Jennings and Megan Harley from Rayleigh Town Ladies also coming in along with Sade Walters and goalkeeper Violet Hickman.
Made a promising start in the Premier Division winning three of their opening 4 matches a run of poor results followed but the club have improved getting back to winning ways back to back wins putting them back amongst the chasing pack well clear of the bottom. Luton Town Ladies suffering relegation from the FAWNL last season. Following a period of relevant success in South East Division One challenging for a top 4 finish on several ocassions. Lost a few experienced players blooding alot of young players. Continue to do so have a strong youth set-up with several doing well for the first team. Have brought in defenders Elly Wade and Tanya Blacksley to give experience at the back. Set the early pace in the Premier Division as they look to bounce back straight away. A run in the FA Women’s Cup seeing them fall away from the top, amongst the chasing pack have lost just the once this season. Jess McKay top scorer on 11 goals not available today. Missing a few other presenting opportunities for younger players manager Nikki Baker giving 16-year-old Ellie Sargeant her first start. The sides meeting already this season in the FA Women’s Cup, Luton winning 3-0.
The Len Salmon Stadium the venue for today’s match the ground undergoing redevelopment a state of the art 3G playing surface and surrounding barrier already installed plus seated stands either side of the dugouts. A good start from the hosts closing the ball down well spreading play. Luton come forwards Ferris on the right putting the pass on for Rebecca Kane running into the channel, Danni Jennings going with her for Bowers & Pitsea putting in a great tackle to win the ball back. Jennings called into action at the back moments later for Bowers & Pitsea again against Kane as a fortunate deflection sees the attacker run in behind taking the ball into the area forced left by Jennings recovering well the defender preventing the cross. Luton beginning to find some momentum of their own Ferris forwards as the visitors attack making a run into the box as the ball is helped on Bowers & Pitsea goalkeeper Violet Hickman down bravely to save at her feet.

Folan defending for Luton, firstly stepping out from the back to break up a Bowers & Pitsea move through the middle, the 2nd time heading behind for a corner as the ball is crossed in from the right. Hassell kicking the ball long again bouncing on through Kane looking to get it under control, Jennings having given herself space to adjust getting to her to make the challenge and win the ball back. Women’s Football East – Player of the Match
Onto this afternoon’s Women’s Football East – Player of the Match, several contenders as usual. For Bowers & Pitsea no doubting has to be Danni Jennings put in a real shift at the back on hand on several ocassions to put in the vital tackle. Overall hard to single out an individual for Luton the defence solid keeping a good shape. Carroll in the middle and Kane up front with some good runs the award though goes to Erica Byron several timely runs through the middle setting up Kane for her 2nd goal and a superb hit for her goal.
Always competitive in the ERWFL the Premier Division a strong league this year. Good to get a trip down to Essex in been a while. Safe to say I haven’t missed the M25 though. My thanks to both clubs for the team details as ever much appreciated.
Getting tight at the top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership now with the gap closed on the leading pair Leverington Sports Ladies and Haverhill Rovers Ladies. The later seeing their game away to Riverside Ladies abandoned due to pitch conditions in the 2nd half, Haverhill were leading 3-1 at the time will wait to see the outcome.
Leverington were hosting Peterborough Northern Star Ladies Reserves on Sunday. The league leaders missing a couple of key players including top scorer Sophie Swinden through illness. Peterborough with a fast start taking the lead inside the opening 20 seconds, strong at the start were 2-0 up on 15. Leverington building coming back into the contest Chloe Stanborough picking the ball up 20 yards out driving in a shot off the post to bring it back to 2-1 had her 2nd of the game to bring it level at 2-2 before half-time. Peterborough having the better of the play early in the 2nd retaking the lead going to the score a 4th goal. Stanborough getting her hat-trick to pull it back to 4-3 but despite a strong finish Leverington were unable to find a 4th goal Peterborough winning 4-3 up to 4th in the table with their 4th win of the season now 3 points behind the leading pair. St Ives Town Ladies Development losing narrowly to leaders Haverhill Rovers Ladies last time out bounced back this weekend away to Histon Ladies Reserves to climb up to 3rd in the Premiership table and close the gap to the top to just 2 points. A first St Ives goal for Poppy Lyons and one from Ruth Fox winning the 3 points as the visitors edged the scoreline 2-1. Sophie Lanham with the Histon goal.

A high scoring match between Cambridge University Women and visitors Ketton Ladies at the weekend the pair sharing 9 goals. An early kick-off Ketton edging the goals 5-4 to record back to back wins to climb briefly up to 4th in the Premiership table before the afternoon’s results saw them pushed back down to 6th usefully placed however after 6 games 5 points off the top.
March Town United Lades also on the move up the Premiership table after they too recorded back to back wins in the league this weekend away to Cambridge City Ladies A. Josie Turner scoring the opening goal before Eleanor McLeish went on to score a hat-trick to see the match won 4-1. March up to 8th in the table joining Cambridge on 9 points have games in hand on all above.
Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship
Cambridge Rangers Women keep on winning at the top of the Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship keep 7 points clear of the rest with a 9th straight win at the start of the season their 100% record continuing away t new side Deeping United Ladies on Sunday. Their opponents however proving a tough nut to crack with a single goal enough in the end to keep their record intact. Top scorer Daniella Lewis with the vital goal her 13th so far this season.
Mildenhall Town Ladies also new to the league this season continuing their good start in 2nd are 5 points clear in 2nd spot after winning away from home this weekend were taking on Burwell Tigers Ladies who had just the 10 available. Did well to keep Mildenhall at bay until late in the 1st half a quick fire double from Rachel Barrett her first for the club and an 11th of the season for Katie Hayes seeing Mildenhall leading 2-0 at the break. Charlotte Nash with a 2nd half brace sealing a 4-1 victory for Mildenhall. Megan Seabrook-Mead with the goal for Burwell.
Pinchbeck United Ladies are matching leaders Cambridge Rangers 100% winning record so far this season albeit they have played just five games so far and have plenty in hand almost a month since their last league match were away to Eaton Socon Ladies who in that period had overhauled them in the league. A close scoreline Pinchbeck emerging victors taking the game 2-1 at the final whistle. Libby Friel making her first start scoring on her debut with Rebecca Navarette also scoring. Mollie Childerley with the Eaton Socon goal their 4 match winning streak coming to an end.
In contrast Newmarket Town Ladies Development extend their winning run to 4 matches in the league following a poor start, now well placed in mid-table were hosting Isleham United Ladies this weekend in the Championship. Talia Irvine scoring a brace with Jordanne Sillitoe scoring 4 goals to see the game won 6-1. A milestone for Sillitoe in her 2nd spell with Newmarket the first women to reach 50 goals for the club in just 36 games a talent, her first goal coming against Cambridge United Reserves back in 2015.
With leaders Hemel Hempstead Town Ladies not in action this weekend in Beds & Herts Women’s Division One it was a chance for the chasing sides to close the gap. Hemel Hempstead with a healthy lead having a 100% record so far this season. St Albans Ladies trailing Hemel Hempstead by 9 points having 2 games in hand. Playing one this Sunday were at home to bottom side Hitchin Belles. The visitors finding life in Division One tough after winning the Division Two title last season. Without a point on the board so far from 6 this season. St Albans in good form scoring goals too Cally Salter getting the hosts off the the perfect start putting them 1 up within a minute. Top scorer Eleanor Lovelock and a goal from Ellen Salter seeing St Albans 3-0 up inside 10 minutes. Hitchin awarded a penalty Amy Jack pulling it back to 3-1 from the spot. St Albans strong in the first half, Sophie Hull putting the hosts 4-1 up on 20 minutes, Lovelock going on to complete a first half hat-trick with Cally Salter also scoring a 2nd. A quieter 2nd half a spirited performance from Hitchin despite the scoreline St Albans getting an 8th goal in the 73rd minute Lovelock scoring her 4th of the game and 19th of the season. Hitchin Town Ladies previously 2nd fall 2 places to 4th in the Division One table as they were defeated at home to Northwood Ladies on Sunday. The visitors with a 3rd straight win in the league moving up the table after collecting just 2 points from their opening 3 matches games in hand on all above with be pushing for a top three finish. Emma Steele scoring a brace for Northwood takes her onto 6 for the season a brace too for Clara Morillon her first goals for the club along with one for Honor Cantrell in a deserved 5-2 victory. Hartham United Ladies also climbing the Beds & Herts Women’s Division One table this weekend up to 3rd in the table now after winning their 4th match of the season away to Royston Town Ladies Development at the weekend. Janiece Allen top scoring for Hartham Unite this season and she was on target for the opening goal this Sunday to put them 1 up. Royston hitting Hartham on the break coming back to level it up at 1-1, Eve Chappell scoring. Katherine Calvert on hand to restore Hartham’s lead latching onto a clearance put into her from outside the box to send in under the bar. A 3rd goal quickly following Allen with her 2nd of the game. Clinical finishing from the attacker as she went to to complete her hat-trick and secure a 4-1 win for Hartham with her 14th goal of the season.
Tight in the middle of the Division One table Garston Ladies 1st well amongst the mix too. Were away to Houghton Athletic Ladies on Sunday. A solid start to their 2nd season in the top tier. A first goal of the season for Maddie Gorton, one from captain Leah Crockett and a 5th of the season for Holly Jury helping Garston to a 3-1 victory to put them on 11 points to keep them in touch with the sides above. All very tight in the top half of Beds & Herts Women’s Division Two too with just 8 points between the top 6 sides now. League leaders AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Ladies losing their 100% winning start at home to Woburn & Wavendon Lionesses on Sunday. A close scoreline Woburn & Wavendon edging the result 3 goals to 2 to win their 4th successive match following an opening day loss still back in 5th with 2 games in hand on AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College who have 18 at the top. A brace from Georgia-Rose Edwards along with a goal from Laura Taylor securing the win.
Garston Ladies Vintage Purples back in action after two weeks were at home playing Watton Ladies in Division Two this Sunday. 4th in the league Garston hitting the crossbar early on were dominating play, Samantha Roads with the opening goal, the ball falling to her 25 yards out struck well to find the top corner. More opportunities presented the lead just 1-0 at the break. Watton coming out of the blocks at the start of the 2nd half Garston keeper Vicki Duffy with a couple of saves. Jane Hales scoring on the volley to give Garston a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the 2nd half. A dispute over whether a 3rd goal was scored direct from a corner in the end ruled out. Yasmin Sabri putting in a 20 yard shot to give Garston a crucial 3-0 lead Emma Trill adding a 4th straight form another corner kick late on.
An eventful match the last time these two sides met the the cup it was no different in the league this weekend between Sherrardswood Ladies & Evergreen Ladies. 7-4 then after extra-time. This weekend the points were shared after Evergreen came back from behind 3 times to level the match at 3-3 come the full time whistle. Sherrardswood with an early lead Manjinder Atwal with her 5th of the season after just 3 minutes. Evergreen coming back to level with Grace Gibbons scoring her first goal for the club. Abby Cardell with her first of the season putting Sherrardswood back into the lead late in the first half. Time for Evergreen to respond captain Rebecca Freeman scoring her 5th goal of the season from a free-kick just outside the box. 2-2 at half-time a quieter 2nd half by comparison, Sherrardswood retaking the lead inside the final 10 minutes with Victoria Little on target for her first goal. Evergreen coming back to level for a third time in the dying moments of the match Gemma Arnett heading in from a corner kick to see the points shared.

Two matches played in Beds & Herts Women’s Division Three this weekend. Also an away win awarded to Harvesters Ladies seeing them go 3 points clear at the top of the table over Herts Vipers who weren’t in action. Joining Herts Vipers on 18 points are Biggleswade United Ladies winning their 6th league game of the season at home to Kempston Rovers Ladies on Sunday continuing to apply pressure to the top two. Leeanne Davison ahead in the goal scoring charts for Biggleswade on target for her 17th goal of the season. Kayleigh Saunders moving onto 12 also on the scoresheet. Also amongst the goals this season are Zoe Molloy and Angelica Fachechi both scoring a goal each with Biggleswade winning 4-0 their winning run extended to 6 in all competitions.
Stotfold Juniors Ladies were at home playing Bedwell Rangers Ladies this weekend in Division Three. Jessica Sullivan netting a brace for Bedwell Rangers taking her tally to 7 for the season. Stotfold Juniors taking the 3 points however scoring 3 to win the match 3-2. A first half brace for Georgia Dollman putting her on 5 for the season with Chloe Ward netting her 8th of the season with 15 minutes left to play. The 3 points taking Stotfold Juniors above Bedwell Rangers into 6th place.
Just the one match beating the weather at the weekend in the Essex Women’s Premier Division. With Billericay Town Ladies Development hosting bottom side Beacon Hill Rovers ladies who had picked up their first win of the season last weekend. Came close once again scoring twice with Ella Sach and Jo Smeaton from the penalty spot on target for a goal each. Billericay coming out on top however to collect the 3 points with Rebecca Gallagher moving into double figures for the season scoring a brace along with a goal for Tyler Christou in a 3-2 victory.
Essex Women’s Division One
In contrast a full programme of fixtures in Essex Women’s Division One on Sunday with 4 matches played. Leaders Corringham Cosmos Women the side not in action. Remain well clear at the top of the table however. 2nd placed Aveley Ladies in a poor run of results arrested a run of 3 straight defeats with a point at home to Bowers & Pitsea Ladies Development last weekend. This weekend they were hosting bottom side Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves themselves without a point on the board so far this season. That all changed on Sunday with Chelmsford at last celebrating a win and 3 points. Amara Drummond netting a brace for Aveley. So too Kesley Honeywood for Chelmsford her first goals of the season. Molly Butcher making her first appearance for the Reserves also on target with a goal along with an own goal that saw Chelmsford win the match 4-2.
That result sees 3rd placed Runwell Sports Ladies close the gap to Aveley to a point as they won the 3 points at home to Bowers & Pitsea Ladies Development on Sunday in Division One. Runwell leading 2-0 at half-time. Grace Tebb-Reading and Ellie Jones scoring for Bowers & Pitsea in the 2nd period. Runwell themselves going on to score a further 3 to clinch a 5-2 win. Megan Marney scoring twice, with goals too for Ashley Debnam, Aaryanna Simonelli and Rebecca Pope with her first goal of the season.
Very tight below in mid-table in Division One with Chigwell Ladies on the charge up to 4th in the table on on the back of a 4th straight league win. Ending the year in great form the latest 3 points coming away to Tigers Ladies this weekend who themselves aren’t in bad form. Stefanie Sylvester delivering two pinpoint crosses for Leah Mills to put away inside the box seeing the match won 2-1, an own goal conceded up the other end.
Leigh Ramblers Ladies Reserves up to 5th in the Essex Women’s Division One table after a home win against Hutton Ladies Reserves at the weekend. A single goal enough to secure the 3 points.
A handful of fixtures played across Norfolk this weekend with just the four in total across 3 competitions. Two games played in Norfolk Women’s Division One. Thetford Town Ladies promoted to the league this season making a tough start showing signs of improvement in their last few matches earning their first league point 3 weeks ago, took fellow promoted side Long Stratton Women all the way to penalties in the League Cup last weekend before eventually being knocked out. Long Stratton once again their opponents in the league themselves making a solid start in Division One solid in mid-table. Long Stratton with the bare 11, Charlie Head with her 5th goal of the season and Summer Whiting getting her first for the club. It was Thetford though who were celebrating at the final whistle clinching their 1st league win of the season winning 4-2 with both Melissa Boulton and Laura Martins scoring a brace.
In the other game played in Division One the points were shared between Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves and Fakenham Town Ladies both sides only able to field the bare 11. The pair contesting a goalless draw. The point seeing Fakenham’s recent run continue now unbeaten in 4 matches takes them up into the top half of the Division One table for the first time since regaining promotion to the league.
Norfolk Women’s Division Two
One match played in Norfolk Women’s Division Two this weekend top versus bottom with leaders Stalham Town Ladies hosting Bulldogs Ladies. The bare 11 for the visiting side. Stalham strong from the off scoring plenty of goals to win heavily and move 4 points clear at the top, 7-0 up at half-time added a further 8 in the 2nd period to win 15-0. Top scorer Amber Mayhew moving into double figures on target for a brace. Not the top scorers at the weekend Andrea McCombe opening her account with 4 goals. A hat-trick too for Emma Gillespie. Darcey Burdett another scoring her first goals netting a brace along with first goals of the season for Sian Clarke and Carla Beane. A couple of own goals too.
Norfolk Ladies League Cup
One game two played in the 2nd Round of the Ladies League Cup in Norfolk at the weekend, Thorpe United Ladies top of Division One making a 100% winning start away to fellow league side Taverham United Ladies. Captain Rebekah Lake in form in front of goal once again this season for Thorpe smashed home 7 goals at the weekend to move onto 19 goals for the season. Joanne Hooper netting a brace with the final score reaching double figures 10-0 to put Thorpe through the the quarter finals. Sophie Jermy with the other goal.

It has been a tough start to women’s football for University of Suffolk Women, into their 2nd season have struggled for numbers in their opening 10 matches, losing heavily on a number of ocassions without a point on the board, despite that continue to battle on spirits high, another tough game at the weekend as they played host to league leaders Brettvale Ladies in contrast yet to drop points in the league this season, in form scoring goals. University of Suffolk able to the bare 11, Brettvale with a strong attack soon firing in the goals. Tarnya McKew with plenty of experience in the game netting 5 goals in the match to take her onto 12 for the season. Abbie Fisher, top scoring for Brettvale so far this season on target for 4 goals to keep her one ahead in the goal scoring charts on 13. Hat-tricks for both Amie Chippendale and Lucy Brown the latter with her first goals of the season. Claire Turnbull and Sheryl Nokes also amongst the goals 19-0 the final score. Brettvale opening up a 5 point lead at the top of the table with 2nd placed Alresford Colne Rangers not in action.
Needham Market Women awarded the 3 points a home win against AFC Kesgrave Ladies climb back up to 3rd a point behind Alresford still with a 100% themselves with 2 games in hand on Brettvale.
The battle for top half places as tight as ever below the top three and Bury Town Women 4th in the Suffolk Women’s Division table winning a 3rd straight league game and 5th overall in all competitions. At home this weekend playing Brightlingsea Regent Ladies. Olivia Hodges scoring a brace their were goals too for Kirsten Hutchings Stacey Roper an Mia Bambury in a 5-2 victory. Paige Knight and Hannah Goldsmith scoring the goals for Brightlingsea.
Matching Bury Town Ladies on 21 points 5th in the Suffolk Women’s Division table are Woodbridge Town Ladies. Themselves making it 5 wins from 5 in all competitions with a good result away to Henley Athletic Ladies on Sunday in the league. Attackers Jenna Liverpool and Keira Hines with the bulk of their goals this season both amongst the goals again this weekend, Liverpool with a brace and Hines with one to see Woodbridge run out 3-0 winners have a combines total of 37 goals for the season so far.
Having everyone looking over their shoulders in the top half of the Suffolk Women’s Division table are Holland Ladies. The newcomers having lost way back on the opening day haven’t looked back since winning every game since, 6 straight league victories and with games in hand on everyone places to potentially gain. Their latest win coming at home this Sunday against Brantham Athletic Ladies. A strong first half from Holland seeing them dominate to have a firm grip on the points at the break leading 7-1. Brantham stepping up their performance 2nd half, Holland goalkeeper Ellie Cox making some excellent saves. Brantham managing to add another goal, Holland too to see the match end 8-2. Both Jasmine Cox and Charlotte Warren scoring a hat-trick each for Holland. Michelle Hodgson making her debut also on target with her first 2 goals for the club.
The final action to bring you from the weekend features another clash from the other end of the table. Chantry Grasshoppers Ladies celebrating their first win of the season and 3 points last weekend against University of Suffolk Women, were at home to Ramsey & Mistley Ladies who themselves had earned a good point against Alresford Colne Rangers. Both looking for more points as they met on Sunday, Chantry hosting. A close match it was Ramsey & Mistley who were at long last celebrating a league win as they emerged 2-1 victors to win the 3 points, Holly Hammond and Farren Varty-MacDonald with the goals. Suffolk Women’s County Cup
One outstanding tie left to play form the 2nd Round of this season’s Suffolk Women’s County Cup taking place this weekend, Haverhill Rovers Ladies Development hosting Beccles Town Ladies. Haverhill keeping Beccles at bay despite the visitors creating opportunities to score in the 1st half the sides going in at 0-0 at half-time a different story in the 2nd half. Beccles opening the scoring through Lucy Robbens firing across the goalkeeper into the bottom corner. A 2nd goal soon following Robbens again the scorer. Beccles bringing on Francesca Catchpole introduced to the action for the first time, an exciting new addition to the squad her football put on hold due to a nasty ACL injury that had her out of action for 15 months soon after she was celebrating her first competitive goal for the club. Robbens going to the complete her hat-trick would go on to add a 4th goal. Catchpole marking her return to football with a further 3 goals herself to see Beccles Town win comfortably 8-0 and set-up a quarter final tie away to Needham Market Women to be placed in Sunday 19th January.
