FAWNL Southern Premier Division

A limited fixture list in the FAWNL this weekend with the South East Division One sides beginning their FA Cup campaign, there were three league matches in the Southern Premier Division and one FAWNL Plate 1st Round tie.

In the Southern Premier Division with the top two not in action an opportunity for those below to close the gap. Watford FC Ladies hosting Oxford United Women. Both sides with good opportunities to open the scoring it remained goalless for the opening half hour. The hosts going ahead in the 34th minute Katie O’Leary with the finish netting her 3rd goal of the season to make it 1-0 curling the ball into the bottom corner. Adekite Fatuga-Dada finishing inside the box in first half stoppage time to see Watford head in 2-0 up.

Seven minutes into the 2nd half and Watford build on their lead Fatuga-Dada setting up Leanne Bell to score. Oxford creating opportunities themselves getting it back to 3-1 with Emily Allen scoring close to the hour. Cue then a potential goal of the season Watford scoring straight from the kick-off to restart play, Emma Beckett rushing in to strike the ball in the middle launching it forwards to fly over the keeper not back on her line and land in the goal beyond 4-1 Beckett celebrating her first Watford goal. All action Oxford pull a goal back again moments later Allen on target for her 2nd of the game. The visitors press for more goals Watford defending adding a 5th goal with 5 minutes left Beckett’s free-kick striking the crossbar Fatuga-Dada there t head in the follow-up. Watford up to 3rd joining Cardiff City Ladies on 13 points.

A strong start to the season for Yeovil Town Women winning 3 on the bounce in league and cup went on to lose back to back matches with 2 successive draws to follow 5th in the Southern Premier Division table got back to winning ways this Sunday at home to Gillingham FC Ladies. It was the Kent side who would take an early lead 1 up after 3 minutes. Yeovil starting slow coming on as the half wore on equalising midway through the 1st period captain Annie Heatherson heading in across goal to make it 1-1 her 5th of the season. 1-1 at the break Yeovil with a strong 2nd half to secure the 3 points Sarah Wiltshire reaching double figures for the season netting her 10th goal to put Yeovil into the lead soon after the restart. Heatherson scoring her 2nd of the game on the hour to extend the lead was quickly followed by a 4th goal Laura Williams with her first of the season firing in from long range. Wiltshire and Williams both going on to score a 2nd goal to see Yeovil win the match 6-1.

A mixed season so far for Portsmouth FC Women good results in the cup whilst winning just 1 of their 3 opening league fixtures. A trip to newly promoted Keynsham Town Ladies this Sunday who themselves were without a point from 4 played bottom of the table. The visitors opening the scoring in the 10th minute with Charmaine True finishing from Rosie McDonnell’s cross. Rebecca Beth quickly making it 2-0. Within a minute Keynsham getting it back to 2-1. Bath on target with her 2nd of the 2nd of the match midway through the first half seeing Portsmouth into a 3-1 lead. That the score at half-time. Keynsham battling back to make it 3-2 on the hour was a good as it was going to get for the hosts Portsmouth strong in the final 20 minutes Tamsin De Bunsen scoring to make it 4-3 in the 70th minute. Jade Widdows finishing from 12 yards making it 5-2 on 78. A clash of heads seeing Portsmouth forced to replace their goalkeeper Mel Burn, defender Jazmin Younger going between the sticks. Portsmouth ending strong adding a further 2 goals in stoppage time with De Bunsen netting her 2nd of the game and Bath completing a hat-trick to see the game won 7-2.

FAWNL Plate

One game from the first round of the FAWNL Plate to report on this week. Plymouth Argyle Ladies looking to continue their excellent league form which sees them 2nd in the Southern Premier Division away to South West Division One side Buckland Athletic Ladies. A scrappy start Buckland Athletic taking the lead in the 10th minute Sarah Stacey heading in under the crossbar. Plymouth responding straight away to level Jessie Jones through on goal to score. The visitors applying pressure then chances created Zoe Cunningham crossing for Natasha Knapman to make it 2-1 on the half hour. A 3rd goal quick to follow with Cunningham getting on the scoresheet following a goal mouth scramble her first of the season. Helen Bleazard seeing Plymouth into a 4-1 at the break. Knapman with her 13th goal of the season putting Plymouth 5-1 up early in the 2nd half the visitors comfortable Cunningham scoring twice in the last 10 minutes getting a hat-trick in a 7-1 victory to see Plymouth safely through to the 2nd Round.

Women’s FA Cup

FA Cup weekend a trip down to Essex this Sunday to watch a game from 2nd Round Qualifying of the competition Harlow Town Ladies setting the early pace in the ERWFL Premier Division hosting another potential title challenger Wroxham Women.

Some 48 ties set to be played this Sunday however with plenty of rain falling across the country overnight several games called of pitches waterlogged. Today’s venue the Harlow Arena with a 3G playing surface meant the match would survive.

An intriguing tie in prospect Harlow Town Ladies starting the season well into their 2nd season playing in the ERWFL Premier Division have risen rapidly through the women’s football pyramid in recent seasons. Plenty of young talent to call upon backed up by a strong Reserves side last season, now just the senior side manager Dean Perrett bringing in several players to strengthen the squad and add experience with the likes of Hannah Porter, Nicole Farmer, Georgia Box and Amy Nash coming in having played higher league placed Essex sides AFC Basildon and Billericay Town in the past. Becky Shephard joining too a potent goal threat wherever she’s played most recently with Cambridge United WFC. Top of the ERWFL Premier Division in what will be a strong league once again. Unbeaten in 5 played with 4 win including a 4-1 away win over today’s cup opponents.

Had hoped to see Wroxham Women in the previous round of the FA Cup but circumstances conspired against me. Wroxham are a new name for a familiar side in the ERWFL Premier Division having previously been Acle United Women enjoying plenty of success under that guise the time was right to move on Wroxham showing an interest in wanting to get involved in the women’s game the partnership boosting the club going forwards having come so close to winning the Premier Division in recent seasons and with it promotion to the FAWNL. Will be amongst the title challengers again having retained most of their squad whilst bringing in Victoria Pleavin from Norwich City Women, Kayleigh Holloway from ERWFL Premier Division rivals Wymondham Town Ladies and Bethany Bygrave a former Tasmanian Football of the Year. Currently 2nd in the ERWFL Premier Division table losing one of their opening 5 games as previously highlighted. Reached today’s 2nd Round Qualifying match wit a stunning comeback at home to local rival Wymondham 2-0 down with 9 minutes to go getting back to 2-2 with Amber Rowland slotting in the winner from the penalty spot.

The Harlow Arena today’s venue, heavy rain falling for much of the journey games elsewhere getting called off, more or less stopped past Cambridge, dry by the time I arrived dark clouds still around but the sun trying to poke through. A bar and hot food available under the main seated stand with a covered terraced stand opposite. A 3G playing surface A fairly easy venue to get too with plenty of parking.

The teams into huddles before kick-off a cry of ‘AHOY!’ from Wroxham quickly followed by a roar of ‘HARLOW!’ from the hosts it’s Wroxham to get the 1st half underway wearing blue and white vertical striped shirts with blue shorts and socks with Harlow wearing red shirts with a white front, red shorts and socks. The ball pressed right from the word go Harlow in to close Wroxham little head way made by either side in the opening exchanges play congested in midfield. Wroxham with a throw right side gain ground without getting a cross in the ball played back left to run on for the keeper to gather, Grace Birchall in attack for Wroxham sharp races in forcing goalkeeper Josie Burke into a save down to take at her feet before she can pounce.

Harlow with an opportunity to play a ball into the box players forwards as they win a free-kick 35 yards out as Fran Gamble is fouled bringing the ball on. On the left a good delivery in from Amy Nash flighted in towards the far post Amy Bell in goal for Wroxham with a solid punch of the ball to get it away. A good start to the game from Harlow players all over the park quick to close down and press the Wroxham defence. Nash with a great crossfield pass to find Lucy Edmeades on the right wing takes the ball on to the by-line sending a cross in collected cleanly by Bell at her near post.

GOAL! Harlow’s good start capitalised upon with a goal a great strike from Becky Shephard to give the hosts the lead 6 minutes into the game. Picking up the ball central 35 yards out no one comes to close her down encouraged to shoot shifts the ball before letting fly the ball arrowing in past the keeper to make it 1-0.

Harlow press play turned around win the first corner of the game on the right delivered near post players up goes through everyone to drop across goal no one to attack far side Wroxham clear. Wroxham not seeing much of the attack early doors gain ground on the left wing the ball played inside for striker Emily Leach has to dig the shot out of her feet 25 yards out on target lacking the power to trouble Burke.

Harlow continue their high tempo pressing game getting players forwards passing quickly Nash putting Shephard away on the left wing into space squares in a cross along the top of the Wroxham area, Chloe Shields clearing for the away side the ball picked up by Gamble central drives in a low shot from 25 yards out, Bell down to push the ball wide. Harlow spreading play well Hannah Porter winning it at the ball has options up field Beth Chambers racing up the left wing from full back a good pass to pick her out lays it forwards for Shephard ahead of her the ball travelling quickly on the 3G surface Shephard despite a lunging dive can’t keep it in play.

Wroxham captain Anna Larkins playing right back reads the danger well across central to nip in front to win the ball from attacker Liv Steele as a great through ball from Gamble almost has her in on goal. Harlow quicker to the ball, Wroxham not getting any momentum frustrated on the back foot. Attacks broken up before they get going Harlow quick to turn play around Edmeades right with an early ball on into the area Nash having made a near post run looking to take the shot in through her stride a defender on her shoulder doesn’t connect with the ball.

Shephard challenging for the ball 25 yards out getting free on the left to chase down the wing fires a cross in central Shields defending again getting to the ball ahead of Steele in front of goal. Wroxham having to work hard to get anything going in attack, Amber Rowland in strong to win it central rolls it forwards into Birchall holding off her marker left side in front of goal spins well to lay the ball on for fellow attacker Emily Leach, Porter in to win the ball back for Harlow.

Larkins down after a challenge from Steele play goes on with Wroxham in attack Birchall in the final 3rd on her own taking players on doing well to win a throw high on the right. Kayleigh Holloway receiving the ball off the throw dribbles on towards the area her low cross driven in cut out put behind by Chambers for Wroxham’s first corner of the game. The delivery put in high safely caught by Burke unchallenged on her line.

Harlow on the attack players breaking left and right as Gamble wins the tackle to break up Wroxham’s build up possession in the final 3rd Harlow have Wroxham penned in a cross played in cleared straight to Chloe Bassett right side of the area her shot fired in with power 25 yards out blocked the ball on the right whipped into the box deflected behind for the corner. The delivery in high near post Porter up heads it on down central Steele their doesn’t get a clean connection on her shot six yards out. Bassett with another shooting opportunity a few minutes later 25/30 yards out right sees her effort race wide across goal. Harlow with the upper hand quicker to everything.

The hosts winning a free-kick wide right outside the box more or less a corner as Nash comes across to take players forwards captain Kaydee King amongst them gets a glancing header on the ball enough to deflect it back to Bassett waiting far side inside the box lines up to shot through bodies low back across goal narrowly wide of the post. Porter goes for a foray up the pitch no one from Wroxham challenging until she threatens to get in past the back line into the area itself. Bassett seeing the ball into her feet 30 yards out plays a great a ball on into the area for Edmeades to attack racing in from the right wing, just too much on it allowing Bell to come and claim.

Gamble fouled top of the circle inside the Wroxham half players go forwards the ball short wide to Chambers left side comes infield preparing to strike a fantastic block… probably not what referee Callum Dorling intended. A drop ball the result these no longer contested. Pleavin with a great intercepting tackle to stop Edmeades getting clear on the right for Harlow. Wroxham need to get something going in attack have soaked up alot of pressure the ball fired up to halfway Birchall doing well to stay on her feet after a tackle takes the ball forwards a strong run into the area draws defenders to her squares the ball to Leach unmarked central hit’s it hard, Burke with the blocking save to keep the ball out at close range the rebound taking the ball out of the area Naomi Cooper gather left to shoot from outside the box sends her shot over the bar.

Late into the first half Harlow becoming a little loose with their passing Wroxham applying a little bit of pressure Birchall with Porter on halfway a coming together that sees the defender down injured the advantage with Harlow though play goes on getting bodies up into the final third.

GOAL! The attack broken up Wroxham send the ball long up to Birchall into the space Porter would have been occupying had she not still been down Birchall racing away from King to carry the ball with pace into the box right of goal Farmer almost getting there as she strikes the ball low and fast across the keeper into the bottom corner to level the scores 1-1.

Birchall celebrating is then shown a yellow card presumably for a foul on Porter prior the the counter attack. Harlow having been strong all through the first half have an opportunity straight from the restart to retake the lead direct play Shephard receiving the ball central in for Steele one on one win the advancing keeper top of the area looks to shot across Bell, the goalkeeper down saves well with her legs. The last opportunity of the 1st half going to Wroxham, Leach controlling the ball 25 yards out sending her shot wide across goal.

The scores all square at 1-1 at half-time. Harlow starting well and taking an early lead continued to dominate pressing Wroxham all over the pitch quicker to the ball and releasing players early didn’t add to that lead however and Wroxham having few opportunities took one late in the half to equalise, know there’s room for improvement. The scores level remains all to play for 2nd half.

Harlow out of the changing rooms early for the 2nd half no changes for either side the hosts getting the 2nd game underway the game to go to extra-time even penalties if needed has to be decided on the day. Harlow beginning as they started the first half on the front foot pushing deep into Wroxham territory winning a throw on the right.

GOAL! Farmer looking to play the ball on the defence pressured right the ball cleared picked up by Bassett outside the box left of the D strikes her shot well, Bell static central the shot wide of her creeping inside the post 2-1. Harlow retake the lead.

Harlow’s pressing game effective in on Wroxham’s defenders early making playing out from the back difficult the midfield forced deeper as a result. Bassett and Gamble breaking thing’s up effectively as they had for much the first half. Harlow attack overlapping on the left the cross in vicious across the face of goal long as Bell scrambles across her line Steele up on the right side into the box getting to the ball looks to smash her shot back in across goal. Bell with a superb save her momentum taking her one way to get back the other to flash out a glove to deflect the ball away from goal.

A corner conceded on the left taken short by Harlow back to the taker coming higher to cross the delivery spot on King getting her head on the on the ball put straight at Bell for a comfortable save. Harlow on the offensive switch play Shephard running clear beating the keeper left in attack sees her shot come back off the far post. Wroxham respond an early change 2nd half Pleavin off with Kirstie Kindred on to join Leach in attack with Birchall moving left side Cooper dropping into defence.

Is a physical game between two competitive opponents. Larkins, Porter and King needing treatment in the first half, Pasque and Parker for Wroxham getting clattered in the 2nd period. A cruncher of a 50/50 between Cooper and Farmer sees both hurt. Birchall fouled left side top of the circle a chance to relieve the early Harlow pressure players go forwards with Parker over the ball a high ball into the area headed clear Harlow look to counter quickly left, Holloway doing the defending to stop the advance for Wroxham.

Larkins with a fantastic ball from the back to release Birchall away on the left the attacker keeping possession well cutting inside allowed to shoot on her stronger foot the ball swerving through the air moving wide across the face of goal wide. The substitutions and movement of players seeing Wroxham start to get a foothold in their opponents final third and for the first time in the game have a period of sustained possession in and around Harlow’s area a ball played on sees Birchall charging down King the ball cannoning up into the air inside the box, King keeping her eyes on it to launch clear.

Harlow make their first change Ronnie Harrison coming on to replace Farmer. The substitute with a great run forwards lays the ball on for Bassett breaking through the centre one on one with the keeper bearing down towards the area Bell commits to the floor diving left as Bassett looks to take the ball around her the goalkeeper, stretching out an arm managing to pluck the ball away from her feet. The danger now cleared players rushing forwards the ball loose gathered on the left Bell up but not set the shot fizzed in Larkins has got back to cover the goal successfully intercepts and clears the threat.

The game opening up as Wroxham take more risks in search of a 2nd equalising goal. Porter with an ambitious effort from over halfway dipping late as it come into the box Bell pushes away for the corner. The ball put into the box from the right defended the clearance straight to Gamble strikes a shot back into the crowded area takes a wicked deflection Bell however able to catch the sting taken out of the shot as the Harlow bench goes up collectively with shouts of “handball”… play continues.

Harlow with a 2nd change, Steele coming off on comes Abbey Dell. Dell involved straight away getting forwards with the ball on the left crosses into the box for Shephard unable to turn and get a shot away. Gamble smashing a 25 yard strike over the bar as she latches onto a clearance. Bassett next to line up a strike from distance for Harlow, the attempt straight at Bell. Wroxham counter Birchall moving wide Harrison defending well for Harlow. Chambers getting forward left side for Harlow played on by Bassett central shoots from the angle the ball over the crossbar.

A free-kick for Harlow in a dangerous position central 30 yards out, players forwards King over the ball going for goal a curling effort past the wall hasn’t the high a comfortable take for Bell. Dell nip in to win the ball for Harlow central her low strike put straight at the keeper. Wroxham come forwards right side Holloway carrying the ball on 30 yards out coming in field, Kindred taking the ball to hit a shot from distance runs wide of the left post.

GOAL! Wroxham equalise for the 2nd time in the match the ball played up toward the top of the area, Burke down at the feet of Leach the ball popping up and beyond, Leach staying on her feet to run on and send the ball into the empty net beyond 2-2. A little over 10 minutes left to play.

The game opened right up both sides going for it Wroxham sending it long the bounce leaving the Harlow defence static high up as Birchall latches onto the ball races away down the left coming back inside as Harlow get back to defend their area taking the ball across the top of the area no opening for a shot cuts back looking to put in Kindred the pass behind her, lunging to try and retrieve it brings down King the free-kick given. Wroxham making another change Leanne Symonds coming on in place of Leach.

Harlow advance on the right with Dell putting Edmeades away her cross along the top of the six yard box dealt with by Larkins at the far post with Chambers running in from wide. Larkins called into action again, Bell high in her box as Shephard comes on central closing in on the keeper her shot partially saved as Bell takes some of the power of it as it strikes her legs through them on target Larkins round to cover the goal clears the ball up field. Neither side wanting extra-time looking for a winning goal Shephard fizzing a shot from wide left across the face of goal.

A throw conceded deep in the corner on the right t Harlow, Gamble with Dell winning a corner the ball n deep smashed goalwards blocked. A player down needing treatment, Pasque okay to continue after a pause in play. Harlow rallying late on moments left on the clock a free-kick won on the right Edmeades to put in towards the far post Shields defending to head the ball clear for Wroxham.

The game goes to extra-time an additional 30 minutes for either side to find a winning goal. Wroxham coming back well 2nd half after conceding an early goal, the game opening up Bell with some vital saves with Harlow stretching the defence at times.

Extra-time

Wroxham to get the first period of extra-time underway. Harlow getting hold of the ball Shephard away left passes inside for Nash 25 yards out has a shot the ball pushed down by Bell, before diving onto it wit Dell rushing in on the follow up.

A marauding run from Birchall right side taking the ball and players on, comes inside across the top of the area looks to set up Kindred central, Birchall though is hauled over as she releases the ball the referee blows up, close to being a penalty instead a free-kick a foot out inside the D.

GOAL! Birchall over it a packed area in front of her strikes it low and hard the ball taking a wicked deflection that Burke can do little about as it races wide of her into the back of the net 2-3. Wroxham leading for the first time in the match. The goal stands despite Harlow complaints the ball was moving as it was struck the breeze strong blowing across the pitch.

Birchall gathering the ball into her feet on halfway drives on into the area taking defenders with her to the right turning well to leave 3 behind to line up a shot, no powers behind the ball Burke down to gather. Dell with a great turn and hit from 30 yards out Bell behind it but spilt throws herself down to smother it with Chambers racing in.

A free-kick for Harlow in half-way the delivery high into the area dealt with by Parker the ball looping back out of the area spinning as Nash goes to hit it causing it to swerve and drop wide of goal. Harlow make a change with Harriet Lethbridge coming on for Nash. A corner won on the right for Harlow the ball in creeps over everyone near side falling for Porter central volleys over must have taken a nick as another corner is awarded.

Harlow pressing the attack the crossbar struck cleared for a corner. Porter off the field for a change of shirt, having collected a bloody nose earlier in the game. The corner taken another near post delivery attacked put across goal cleared Lethbridge to play back in Bell taking it well with Shephard close in.

Shephard sees her shot outside the box blocked by Pasque, handball indicated a free-kick to Harlow inside the D more or less identical to the one that led to Wroxham’s goal. Shephard to strike it hard and low bodies in the way this time to block the ball rebounding out of the area straight to a Harlow shirt a rising shot coming in on target Bell must be unsighted with so many in the box produces a fantastic save throwing herself back to glove the ball away to the right, a corner for Harlow.

GOAL! The pressure from Harlow pays off players stay up field the delivery this time long across the face of goal beyond the far post King getting her head on the ball to knock it down towards goal a scramble on the line to get the ball away but in vain as the goal is given 3-3. The first half of extra-time finishes with the tie all square once again.

Harlow to get the 2nd period of extra-time underway. Edmeades played through to attack on the right into the box an opportunity to shoot opts instead to square the ball across goal Larkins stepping up to intercept and clear. Harlow regaining possession a snap shot fired over. Dell winning a corner for Harlow, Parker defending for Wroxham sees it put back to taker Edmeades another opportunity to cross deep King up far past a glancing header wide.

Wroxham making a change Olivia Mungham-Gray coming on for Kindred. Birchall away in the right her cross in deflected by King thankfully straight to Burke in the goal beyond. Cooper fouled by King central a free-kick 25 yards out Birchall to strike her effort gloved down and held by Burke.

GOAL! Time running down in the 2nd period of extra-time Harlow are pushing players on swarming around the Wroxham box the ball at the feet of Gamble 20 yards out to the left of the box fired in to nestle in the back of the net and put the hosts back in front 4-3.

Wroxham behind late on have to come forwards Harlow though have a late rush of energy to close the ball down and keep momentum with them. Shephard taking the ball into the corner. Holloway breaking late for Wroxham no way through as she tries to pick out Birchall, Harlow solid at the back the final whistle goes and players rush onto the pitch to celebrate.

Harlow through to the next round of the Women’s FA Cup, the draw later this Monday. Deserving of the win overall despite making thing’s harder for themselves doing the job in extra-time. On the front foot early in the game getting the goal should probably have gotten more 1st half credit to Wroxham to come back to equalise late on. An early goal 2nd half for Harlow seeing Wroxham come on more and enjoy a better period of attack getting back on level terms to force extra-time and then take the lead themselves. Harlow keep coming though and King headed in to make it 3-3 the hosts prepared to have a strike from distance all game seeing one beat the keeper late on through Gamble to win the tie.

Women’s Football East – Player of the Match

Onto this afternoon’s Women’s Football East – Player of the Match. Grace Birchall in attack and Amy Bell with some superb saves doing well for Wroxham. Harlow showing good movement and energy across the pitch, Amy Nash creating several opportunities strong in central midfield, Chloe Bassett close but edged out by Fran Gamble who had a fantastic game in the middle breaking up play getting forwards well and spreading play scoring the winning goal.

Brettvale Ladies 2nd of goal difference taking full advantage to extend their 100% record at the star of the season to move 3 points clear at the top of the table. Albeit the first 3 wins awarded Brettvale officially beginning their season last weekend starting with a good 8-1 win away to Alresford Colne Rangers. At home for the first time this season on Sunday taking on Brantham Atheltic Ladies who had suffered narrow defeats in their previous two lead matches. Brettvale winning the game comfortably taking the 3 points with a 5-0 win a brace each for Tarnya McKew and Amie Chippendale, Rachel White scoring too in her first start of the season.

Four wins from four to start the season to for the newly reformed Bury Town Women joining Needham Market Women Reserves on 12 points 3rd in the table. A big win too for Bury Town away to University of Suffolk Women, the hosts short on numbers up against a strong side full of goals with 5 available on the bench. Julie Brind scoring 7 goals against the hosts herself doubling her tally for the season after just 3 matches. Stacy Roper scoring a hat-trick, was a brace for Kirsten Hutchings with Deborah Greeves and Steph Hanratty also scoring two goals each to open their accounts. Zoe Klimcke, Helen Cryer and Mia Bambury adding another goal each with Lyndsie Duemmel also celebrating a goal on her first start. A 20-0 win for Bury Town.

Woodbridge Town Ladies building on last weeks first win of the season claimed their 2nd successive 3 point haul at home to Alresford Colne Rangers on Sunday. A home win awarded previously move up to 4th with 9 points off the back of a 3-0 winning result. Last seasons top scorer Jenna Liverpool scoring a brace with a first goal of the season for Keira Hines.

Having forfeited their opening two league figures upon joining the Suffolk Women’s Division new side Henley Athletic Ladies are showing great form in competitive action taking 7 points from 3 played so far starting with back to back wins earned a good point away from home against Leiston St Margarets Ladies this weekend in a 0-0 draw.

Brightlingsea Regent Ladies make it back to back wins in the Suffolk Women’s Division after losing their opening fixture and forfeiting their 2nd. A 6-1 win at home to newcomers Ramsey & Mistley Ladies last tie out were away to Chantry Grasshoppers Ladies this Sunday. A close first half seeing the visitors leading 2-1 the scoreline repeated in the 2nd period to see Brightlingsea run out 4-2 winners. Hannah Goldsmith celebrating a hat-trick has 7 goals for Brightlingsea from 3 played. Paige Knight also on the scoresheet. Chantry Grasshoppers still in search of their first points of the season, Ruth Mallett and Shannon Cameron their goalscorers.

Ramsey & Mistley Ladies having a tough start to life in the Suffolk Women’s Division with 2 heavy losses to start the season, losing their opening 4 in total earned their first point of the season this Sunday at home to fellow newcomers AFC Kesgrave Ladies. The visitors short on numbers with just 9 available doing well to take home a point themselves the pair drawing 1-1 at half-time adding one more each 2nd half to see it finish 2-2. Ashleigh Mean and Holly Hammond with her first of the season scoring for Ramsey & Mistley. Abigail Eley and Sarah Jay also scoring her first of the campaign on target for AFC Kesgrave.

Hemel Hempstead Town Ladies maintain their 3 point lead at the top of Beds & Herts Women’s Division One, the defending champions made to work for the win coming up against Hartham United Ladies on Sunday. A close game settled by a single goal. Hemel Hempstead taking the lead with half a hour played Ella Mercer scoring what would prove to be the winner to keep Hemel Hempstead’s 100% record in tact.

St Albans Ladies 2nd in the Division One table also with a 100% record from 4 played, last weekend involved in the Women’s FA Cup picking up a great result winning away to higher league opposition were back in league action this Sunday looking to make it 3 from 3 in the league. At home were taking on newly promoted Royston Town Women Development. proved tough opponents St Albans taking the lead in the 34th minute Jessica McNamara rounding the keeper to tap home. 1-0 the advantage at half-time the hosts doubling their lead early in the 2nd half. Cally Salter getting onto the end of a Molly Slade free-kick. 20 minutes to go and St Albans scored 3 quick goals to make the game secure Slade with a two minute brace, Cally Salter sandwiching her 2nd of the game in between. 5-0 up Slade went of to score her 1st ever hat-trick for St Albans to see the game won 6-0.

Momentum for Garston Ladies as they climb to 4th in the Beds & Herts Women’s Division One table winning 7 points from their last 3 matches after a heavy loss on the opening day of the season. At home this Sunday making it back to back wins against Hitchin Town Ladies in the process bringing the newly promoted sides unbeaten start to an end. A blistering start from Garston leading in the 4th minute were 2 to the good just a minute later a 3rd goal coming before 10 minutes wee on the clock, Hitchin rallied pulling a goal back before half-time Bethany Spavins set up to score her first goal. Lucy Huffer on target with her first goal of the season scoring a 25 yard free-kick the bring it back to 3-2 7 minutes into the 2nd half. Garston coming back to restore their 2 goal lead 5 minutes later going on to win the game 4-2 their goals scored by Sian Fisken, Ruby Jager, Danielle McMullan and Leah Crockett with her first of the season.

Houghton Athletic Ladies recording their 1st league win of the season this Sunday away to last season’s Division Two champions Hitchin Belles. Houghton Athletic with a strong first half taking a 5-0 lead into the dressing room. A brace for last season’s top scorer Emily Wilson, a brace to for Sophia Lee her first for the club along with a goal for Ciara Craig on her first appearance of the campaign. A tough start to the season for Hitchin Belles losing their opening 3 fixtures, pulled two goals back in the 2nd period with Keira How and Gemma Smith on the scoresheet. Houghton winning 5-2.

A frustrating start to the season for Northwood Ladies a draw and narrow loss to Hemel Hempstead last weekend to start the season were away to newly promoted Letchworth Garden City Eagles Ladies this Sunday. An 11-0 defeat to Hemel Hempstead to open their campaign. A point earned this weekend as they held Northwood to a 3-3 draw. Tayla Murray, Kin Franklin and Katie Smith scoring Letchworth’s first goals of the season. Samantha May and Zamina Rehemtulla off the mark with a goal each for Northwood with Emma Steele also on the scoresheet.

Beds & Herts Women’s Division Two

Two matches completed in Beds & Women’s Division Two this Sunday. Garston Ladies Reserves (Vintage Purples) as they are known on Twitter continuing their unbeaten start to the season to maintain the lead. Back to back wins the 3 points collected on the road this weekend up against Evergreen Ladies who lost heavily in their opening league fixture. Yasmin Sabri scoring a brace for the visitors with Emma Trill also finding the back of the net for a goal in a 3-0 away win.

Newly promoted side Langford Ladies continuing their excellent start to the season in Division Two a 100% winning start 3 from 3 now as they won comfortably away from home on Sunday to climb up to 2nd in the table a point behind Garston. Were playing Wheathampstead Wanderers Ladies. Amber Clarke striking home a hat-trick to double her goals tally for the season. Rebecca Reeve getting on the scoresheet too with her first goals of the season netting a brace. Tabitha and Ayesha Brown with a goal each the latter’s first of the campaign.

The clash between newly promoted sides AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College Ladies and AFC Dunstable Blues abandoned due to an nasty injury to a Kempston Town player. Wishing her all the best for a speedy recovery. Watton Ladies awarded a home win against Bedford Ladies Development.

Beds & Herts Women’s Division Three

Harvesters Ladies continue to lead the way in Beds & Herts Women’s Division Three making it 4 wins from 4 at the weekend but they were run very close by hosts Kempston Rovers Ladies who came close to earning a point their winning start coming to an end as they fall to a 3-2 defeat. Eve Shaw with her 5th of the season scoring for Harvesters along with Sian Appleyard and a first of the season for Molly O’Neill. Sabrina Stramaglia and Zoe Trinder the goalscorers for Kempston Rovers who stay 3rd on goal difference with a clutch of sides now having 6 points.

Herts Vipers keep up the pressure on leaders Harvesters Ladies winning their 3rd game of the season to maintain their 100% winning start. Weren’t at their best hosting Biggleswade United Ladies. The sides drawing 1-1 at half-time Lois Ruane scoring for Herts Vipers. A good start to the 2nd half for the hosts Nicole Jancey firing them into a 2-1 lead with her 11th of the season Lucy Sende on target to put Herts Vipers 3-1 ahead with her first goal. Biggleswade coming straight back to make it 3-2. Herts Vipers preventing their opponents for finding another to win the 3 points.

Moving up to 5th in the Division Three table joining Kempston Rovers and Biggleswade are Bedwell Rangers ladies winning their 2nd game of the season at home to Evergreen Eagles playing their first game of the season. Rachel Young scoring a brace for Bedwell Rangers with Freya Rampley, Georgia Miller and Danielle Cook all on target wit a goal a piece in a 5-0 result.

Joining the pack on 6th points in 6th spot are Hitchin Town Ladies Reserves winning their first competitive game under their new banner. Their previous 3 points awarded as a home win. Were at home this Sunday taking on newcomers Whetstone Wanderers Ladies. A brace for April Spang in the 1st half scoring Hitchin Town Reserves first goals Spang adding a 3rd to complete a hat-trick with 12 minutes left. Megan White-Benton also celebrating a goal for Hitchin in the final 5 minutes to see the game won 4-2. Whetstone Wanderers still searching for their first league points losing their opening 4 games Jessica Marshall and Hailey Peters with their first goals of the season.

Also celebrating their first win of the season are Stotfold Juniors Ladies, haven’t played in the league since the opening day of the season losing 8-4 to Biggleswade. Were at home to new side Flitwick Eagles Ladies this Sunday a close first half between the sides Stotfold with a narrow lead, a completely different story 2nd half as the hosts ran out comfortable 10-2 winners. Chloe Ward scoring early in the first half completing a hat-trick late in the 2nd period. Also claiming a 2nd half hat-trick was Georgia Dollman. Gemma Robertson with a brace there were goals too for Georgia Yates and Becky Charter. Anna Bright scoring in the 12th minute for Flitwick, Brittany Holdsworth with their 2nd in the 89th minute.

Cup action this weekend in Cambridgeshire from the first round of the Cambridgeshire Women’s League Cup, 3 of the scheduled 8 ties called off 5 games played.

Ketton Ladies making the trip to Peterborough to play fellow Premiership side Netherton United Ladies. Katie Barber scoring her first of the season for Netherton on 6 minutes. A strong spell at the start of the 2nd half saw the hosts add a further 3 goals with Jenna Nairn on target just 2 minutes after the restart. Gemma Holloway then hitting a quickfire brace to claim her first goals of the season. Fran Kavanagh on target to score twice for Ketton, Barber wrapping up a 5-2 win for Netherton in stoppage time to see them through to the next round.

Leverington Sports Ladies under their previous guise (Wisbech Town) reached the semi-finals of the League Cup last season were starting this cup campaign away to league newcomers Peterborough Northern Star Ladies. Victoria Vata opening the scoring with her first goal for Leverington the visitors soon 2-0 up Sophie Swinden with the strike. Have had more than their fair share of injuries in recent season lost Kaylie Swinden who is likely to be out for sometime suffering a cracked ankle and ruptured ligaments, wishing her all the best for a full and speedy recovery. Leverington pressing for more goals taking a 3-0 lead into the break with 16-year-old Savanna Plavecz scoring. The visitors continuing where they left off 1st half with both Plavecz and Swinden scoring again. Peterborough rallying to pull back two goals in quick succession through Georgia Clarke and Alexa Hunter. Amy Newell getting off the mark with her first of the season wrapping up a 6-2 win for Leverington.

Premiership side Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds were away in the League Cup 1st Round taking on Championship newcomers Newmarket Town Women Development. The bare 11 available for Newmarket, Fulbourn were at full strength keen to play having not done so since the beginning of the month were 4-0 up by half-time adding a further 2 in the 2nd period to safely progress. Marie Stubbings carrying a potent goals threat for Fulbourn getting her name on the scoresheet for 5 of their 6 goals with Katrina Cloherty scoring her first Fulbourn goal.

Two all Championship 1st Round ties in the League Cup, early leaders Cambridge Rangers Women away to Park Ladies. The pair meeting in the league already this season Cambridge Rangers winning comfortably at home 5-0. At Park this weekend they didn’t have it quite so easy as they edged their opponents out to reach the next round 3-2. Daniella Lewis, Claire Kyndt and Lauren Lock with her first goal of the season securing the win. Danielle Green and Francesca Piltsch with the goals in each half for Park.

The tie between Championship newcomers Eaton Socon Ladies and Swavesey Spartans Ladies went all the way to penalties. Stacy Askew with a brace and a first goal of the season for Daisy Edwards-ainge seeing away side Swavesey holding a 3-1 lead at half-time. Eaton Socon coming back to score tie to level it up at 3-3 to send the game to penalties. Emily Whiteman with her 5th goal of the season, Jessica Bleakley and Samantha Walker with her first of the campaign getting the goals for Eaton Socon. Swavesey coming out on top in the shootout taking it 3-2 to progress in the competition.

Cambridgeshire Women’s Championship

There were also two league games played this Sunday both in the Women’s Championship. Back to back wins seeing Isleham United Ladies climb the table were away to Cardea Ladies this weekend the hosts starting their season a fortnight ago recording a 9-5 home win against Haverhill Rovers Ladies Development. All the goals coming in the first half Courtney Coles and Anna Langa putting Cardea into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 15 minutes. Laura Todd getting it back to 2-1 5 minute before half-time. Cardea successfully defending their lead Isleham unable to find a levelling goal 2nd half the result seeing Cardea up to 4th in the Championship table.

Mildenhall Town Ladies new to the league this season earning their first point away from home in a 3-3 draw with Park Ladies last weekend built on that result to win their 1st game this Sunday. Away from home once again taking on Haverhill Rovers Ladies Development. Kate Hayes with a goal in each half her first Mildenhall goals enough to see the points won, Abigail Wood with her first goal for Haverhill losing 4 at the start of the season another frustrating result.

Norfolk Women’s Division One

Despite the heavy rainfall at the start of the weekend it was good news on the whole for the county league fixtures with most surviving. In Norfolk there were 10 games played across both divisions with everyone off the mark at last. Thorpe United Ladies continuing their excellent start to the season making it 4 wins from 4 played clinching victory at home to Taverham United Ladies on Sunday. Captain Rebekah Lake in great scoring form too taking her tally to 11 goals from 4 played celebrating 4 goals in the game. Thorpe winning 5-1, Natasha Leversley the other goalscorer opening her account for the season. Teigan Robinson getting her first of the season for Taverham last season’s Division Two champions losing their opening two games in Division One.

Thorpe aren’t the only side making a 100% start to the season in Division One, Bungay Town Ladies losing ground due to involvement in the Women’s FA Cup last weekend back to winning ways with a 3rd straight win in the league at home to Sprowston Ladies a close match Bungay edging the result by a single goal Nicola Hazell with the goal to clinch the 3 points.

Also making a 100% winning start to life in Division One are newly promoted Tavern Ladies a trip down to Thetford this Sunday to take on fellow promoted side Thetford Town Ladies. The hosts short on numbers Tavern carrying a goal threat taking full advantage to rack up a double figure win, Lucy Kean top scoring in the match with a hat-trick. Atlanta Griffith and Katie Hart-Copsey both on the scoresheet with a brace each, with Nicole Costin, Meganne Smith and Victoria Fusco scoring their first goal s of the season in a 10-0 result.

Sprowston Athletic Ladies join fellow Sprowston side Sprowston Ladies on 6 points in mid-table in Norfolk Women’s Division One winning away to Wymondham Town Ladies Reserves on Sunday, Laura Jenkins with her 2nd goal of the season and Lois Irving with her first goal of the season from Sprowston Athletic from the penalty spot seeing the club win their 2nd game of the season.

Also winning their 2nd game of the season and joining the Sprowston clubs on 6 points in mid-table are Long Stratton Women. The win coming away to fellow promoted sides Fakenham Town Ladies this Sunday. A heavy defeat for both on the opening day of the season bounced back to win their next games to get 3 points on the board, Long Stratton making in back to back wins winning the match 2-0. Karmen Harvey with the goals her 1st for the club.

Norfolk Women’s Division Two

A perfect start to life back in the 11 aside game for Stalham Town Ladies as they make it 3 wins from 3 at the beginning of the new campaign in Norfolk Women’s Division Two. At home to fellow newcomers Red Rose Ladies who are still looking for their first points of the season. Megan Swain making her first appearance for Stalham Town opening her season with a brace, their was also a first of the season for Sophie Jayne O’Connor and one for Amber Mayhew in a 4-1 victory.

A 2-1 loss at away to Hockering Ladies last time out Beccles Town Ladies were looking to bounce back with victory this Sunday at home to Horsford Women this weekend as they look to get back to Division One at the first attempt. Beccles enjoyed the better of the 1st half to hold a strong 4-0 lead. One more added in the 2nd period to seal a 5-0 victory, Lola Barber-King scoring her 2nd hat-trick of the season to have 6 from 2 appearances for Beccles. Elisha Bower with her first of the season along with Jordan Duke making her first appearance.

Hockering Ladies look a completely different side at the start of the new season winning their opening fixture at home to Beccles, bringing in plenty of new signings were away this Sunday playing Thetford Bulldogs who themselves were short on numbers just 8 listed. Hockering having often been short on numbers themselves last season taking full advantage. Olivia Baker opening her account for Hockering with a penalty last weekend rampant this weekend scoring a double hat-trick one in each half. Shelley Woods often amongst the goals when playing for King’s Lynn Town Ladies also scoring a first half hat-trick t open her Hockering account adding a 4th goal 2nd half. Jolene Ayrton also celebrating a tat-trick with her first goals of the season. Cerys Nicholas also getting on the scoresheet for the 2nd successive match with a brace Hockering scoring 15 didn’t have it all their own way however with Bulldogs managing to breach their defence for 3 goals. Rachael Barrett netting a hat-trick for the hosts.

Losing their opening game of the season Thorpe United Ladies new Reserves sides clinched their 1st win of the season last time out away to Mulbarton Belles. Made it back to back wins this Sunday at home against the new North Walsham Angles Ladies side. Joanne Hooper with her first of the season scoring in the 3rd minute. Emily Warnes also on target for Thorpe the half hour. Mia Calver adding a third goal for Thorpe in the 2nd half . North Walsham getting on the scoresheet through Rhiannon Holt going down 3-1.

Last to get off the mark in Norfolk Women’s Division Two, are new side Waveney Ladies playing their first league game this Sunday at home to Mulbarton Belles. The visitors making a winning start to the season suffering a number of injury blows since players playing with knocks too. Waveney making a winning start to life in women’s football, the 3 points won courtesy of a 2-0 result both goals coming in the first half.

Silver End United Ladies continue to lead the way in the Essex Women’s Premier Division keeping up their unbeaten start at the beginning of the season a draw last Sunday home to Collier Row Tigers were at hoe again this Sunday taking on Southend United Ladies who have brought in 10 new signing to date the latest Christina Fragnito previously with Hullbridge Sports Ladies. A good first half from the visitors Southend holding Silver End to a goalless the hosts with a good finish to the game 15 minutes left to play broke the deadlock from a long range free-kick Roxanne Gardner sending a high ball in over the keeper. Another free-kick bringing a 2nd goal 2 minutes later Rosi Webb getting on the end of the ball to send the ball home. Southend pressing looking for a reply late on hit on the counter a through ball in the 84th minute setting up Webb to score her 2nd of the game and secure a 3-0 win for Silver End.

A strong start to the new season too for Chelmsford City Ladies winning 3 of their 4 matches so far to lay a point back from Silver End in 2nd. There defeat a narrow 2-1 loss to Silver End were looking to make it back to back wins this weekend at home to newly promoted Rayleigh Town Ladies at home a change of venue prior to kick-off. A close contest looked to be going in goalless. Chelmsford with two goals late in the first half, Amelia Murphy running onto a through ball to lob the keeper. 2-0 a minute later with Mia Brisley hitting a screamer. Rayleigh getting it back to 2-1 with Holly Gash on target. Chelmsford further extending their lead with 20 minutes left to play Georgia James capitalising on a poor goalkick to score. Molly Butcher making it 4-1 in the 77th minute. James wrapping up a 5-1 win with her 2nd of the game in stoppage time set up by Alisha Bull making her return after being out with a with a serious knee injury.

Three points back from leaders Silver End United Ladies are 3rd placed Collier Row Tigers with a game in hand, continued their unbeaten start to the season with a home win over Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies. Drawing 2-2 last time out with Silver End, Collier Row Tigers held a narrow 2-1 lead at half-time. The hosts going on to dominant in the 2nd half as they added a further 6 goals to win 8-2. Laura Bunton amongst the goals once again at the start of the season scoring 4 times at the weekend giving her 13 from 4 played played. Chloe Jackson hitting a brace with Roseanne Shafier also celebrating a goal her 6th of the season and a first of the season for Mia Cooman. Jo Smeaton with the goals in each half for Beacon Hill Rovers who slip to bottom the only side yet to take a point.

Billericay Town Ladies Development new to the league bottom of the Premier Division at the start of play on Sunday, clinched their first win of the campaign after losing their opening two a good result at the weekend away to Frontiers Ladies coming out on top in a hard fought game with Sophie Nyiro hitting in the winning goal.

Essex Women’s Division One

A perfect start to the season in Essex Women’s Division One for new side Aveley Ladies as they made it 4 wins from 4 and with Corringham Cosmos Women the side not in action move 3 points clear at the top of the table. Aveley’s 100% record continued away to Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves this Sunday, Bethany Murry with her 4th of the season and Amara Drummond with her 5th securing a 2-0 victory.

Losing 2-1 away to Corringham Cosmos in their last fixture a fortnight ago Runwell Sports Ladies returned to winning ways this Sunday as they travelled to play newcomers Bowers & Pitsea Ladies Development. The visitors leading 2-0 at half-time. Bowers & Pitsea scoring through Ella Jones in the 2nd period, Runwell however scoring a further 2 to clinch a 4-1 win. Ashley Debnam and Aaryanna Simonelli with a goal each with Ashleigh Harvey scoring her first of the season and Marie Barker her first for the club.

Elsewhere in Essex Women’s Division One on Sunday the points were shared. Hutton Ladies Reserves looking for their first points of the season after losing their opening fixture last weekend at home taking on Leigh Ramblers Ladies Reserves. Baylie Kingsnorth opening her account for the season firing Hutton into a 1-0 half-time lead. Leigh Ramblers coming back to level the scores 2nd half with Elisha Reade making it 1-1.

Chigwell Ladies at home taking on Tigers Ladies at home on Sunday also seeing the points shared the pair also sharing 8 goals to both earn their first point of the season. Leah Mills with her first if the season for Chigwell there was also a hat-trick for Aquila Bailey-Browne her 3rd coming from the penalty spot. Tigers Ladies new to the league this season earning their first point with Chloe Brown making her first appearance of the season scoring a goal. With Ellie Wallace on target for a hat-trick again one of the goals a penalty her 3rd goal scored in the 89th minute.

Before we begin this weeks ERWFL Round-Up a piece of sad news to bring you with Bishops Stortford Ladies withdrawing from the Division One South. A popular club that will be sorely missed have enjoyed a near 10 year run in women’s football. Struggling for numbers on game day’s in recent seasons despite having the numbers on the books commitment on Sunday’s a challenge leading to this tough decision. A strong youth set-up with sides from U10 to U18 hope it will be a short hiatus and that the Bishops Stortford name will rise again within the women’s football pyramid for now wishing everyone involved with the club all the best for the future.

ERWFL Premier Division

All very tight at the top of the ERWFL Premier Division, the top two go head to head this Sunday with Luton Town Ladies looking to regain top spot from Harlow Town Ladies both unbeaten at the start of the season Harlow’s winning run now 5 games in league and cup after drawing on the opening day. Took the lead through a long range free kick in the 10th minute captain Kaydee king lifting the ball up into the Luton area Olivia Steele with great vision to strike the ball on the half volley into the back of the goal.. Luton creating chances coming back to level in the 38th minute Zara Carroll crossing for Anne Folan to head in to head in her first goal of the season. Luton continued to create scoring chances frustrated as none were converted, Harlow retaking the lead to clinch a 2-1 victory to stay top scoring from a corner Amy Nash taking it short receiving the ball wide sending a shot looping in over the keeper. Results going against Luton elsewhere seeing them fall to 5th in the table.

A huge win at home for Wroxham Women on Sunday over bottom side Haringey Borough Women to see them move up to 2nd in the Premier Division table a point behind Harlow. A full strength squad in confident mood following a late comeback to win in the FA Cup 3-2 against Wymondham after trailing 2-0 with 9 minutes left Made a fast start with Beth Bygrave pouncing to score in the opening minute. It was 3-0 before 10 minutes were played Grace Birchall netting twice. Haringey struggling to cope with Wroxham’s pace fell further behind on 19 minutes Birchall completing her hat-trick, Kayleigh Holloway making it 5-0. Wroxham dominant, goals form Emily Leach and Grace Parker extending the lead to 7-0. Birchall rampant in attack going on to score 2 quickfire 2nd hat-trick a 7th goal for Birchall seeing the hosts leading 11-0 at half-time. A game no one really enjoys one side so dominant over the other Wroxham remained professional doing their job adding a further 8 goals in the 2nd period with Birchall taking her haul to 10. Leach netting a 2nd goal there were goals to for Rhianne Brister, Anna Larkins, Lauren Bullard and Kirstie Kindred. 19-0 the winning margin. A long and tough trip to Norfolk for Haringey.

Royston Town Women stay 3rd in the Premier Division table getting out of jail to earn a point coming back from 3-0 down away to Wymondham Town Ladies to draw 3-3. A 2nd successive late collapse from Wymondham. the hosts holding a 1-0 lead at half-time scoring through a Chelsea Clarke penalty on the half hour after striker Hannah Waters was brought down inside the box. Katie Knights putting Wymondham into a 2 goal lead early in the 2nd half. Waters with her 6th goal of the season firing Wymondham into a 3-0 lead midway through the 2nd half. Royston pushing the game entering the final 10 minutes. Charlotte South with a great strike to pull it back to 3-1 with 8 minutes left. Sammy Tinsley setting up a dramatic finish scoring to make it 3-2 moments later a late corner won for the visitors the ball put into the area South getting her head on the ball to score the equaliser for Royston to see them leave Norfolk with a share of the points.

Peterborough Northern Star Ladies up to 4th in the Premier Division table, unbeaten in 3 since losing their opening fixture travelled down to Essex this Sunday to play newly promoted Bowers & Pitsea Ladies, themselves in 5th at the start of play having made an encouraging start to the season. The hosts announcing the signing of attacker Yasmin Cowley before the game, will add strength to the Essex sides attack having scored alot of goals in her time with Hatfield Peverel Ladies. A slow start for Bowers & Pitsea, Peterborough creating chance failing to take one the sides drawing 0-0 at the break a single goal the difference in the 2nd half going to the visitors capitalising on a defensive mix-up in the 55th minute Eleanor Spendelow with her first goal for the club, Bowers & Pitsea pressing for a goal were denied by goalkeeper Sarah Hudson as Peterborough won the 3 points.

Bedford Ladies were at home to Colney Heath Ladies at the weekend leading 1-0 at half-time Bedford adding a 2nd goal in the 2nd period to clinch their 2nd league win of the season. Despite making a good start to the game Colney Heath fell behind as Bedford beat the offside trap to score. The hosts finding their 2nd goal through a 40 yard free-kick. Mathilda Fidler and Shianne Swarres scoring the goals to win Bedford the 3 points.

A first win of the season at last for St Ives Town Ladies. Last season’s Division One Champions getting off the mark with their first 3 points this Sunday away to fellow win less side AFC Dunstable Women. The performances have been there at times for St Ives just haven’t been converting into points. A brace each for Tierney Coulson and Georgia Stancombe with her first two goals of the season along with a first St Ives goal ERWFL goal for Anna Hicks securing a 5-1 win for St Ives Town. ERWFL Division One North

There Development side carrying on where their first team left the ERWFL making a winning start maximum points from their opening 3 league games a 10% record in league and cup so far. Cambridge City Ladies Development winning the Cambridgeshire Women’s Premiership along with a couple more bits of silverware making the trip along with their first team this Sunday to Norfolk to the coast to play Gorleston Ladies also newly promoted to the league. Bella Simmons putting the visitors into the lead on the half hour, Freya Standing scoring a 2nd late in the first half volleying in a Simmons cross to see Cambridge 2-0 to the good at half-time. Carla Penny adding a 3rd goal 10 minutes into the 2nd half going on to complete a hat-trick. Goals too for Jade Powell and Rebecca Langthorpe both opening their accounts for the season in a 7-0 to see Cambridge leading the table on goal difference over East Bergholt United Ladies.

East Bergholt United Ladies themselves at home playing a Suffolk derby this Sunday up against AFC Sudbury Ladies. East Bergholt bouncing back from last weekends first league loss of the season against Cambridge City to win the game a single goal enough to win the match, ex-Sudbury player Megan Partridge with the goal her 4th in 2 matches since joining East Bergholt.

The leading pair 6 points ahead of the rest. Some though only getting their league campaign started this weekend. Amongst the Newmarket Town Women, cup matches dominating early in the season at last in league action away to King’s Lynn Town Ladies this Sunday.King’s Lynn losing their opening league game 3-1 at home to Cambridge City Ladies Development. Antonia Smith’s 16th minute goal the difference at half-time seeing the visitors leading 1-0. King’s Lynn coming back to level the score 15 minutes into the 2nd half captain Becky Russell finding the back of the net. Newmarket retaking the lead with 2 quick fire goals inside the final 20 minutes, Annabel Cuthbert scoring then Katie Webb both bringing up their 5th goal of the season. King’s Lynn frustrated as they fought to get back into the game striking the woodwork 4 times throughout the game Tiffany Forshaw getting it back to 3-2 with 3 minutes left Newmarket holding onto their lead to win the 3 points.

Also playing their first league game in the ERWFL Division One North this Sunday following promotion from the Suffolk Women’s Division were Needham Market Women hosting Cambridgeshire side Histon Ladies who had lost their opening league fixture. Needham Market going ahead in the 28th minute new signing Gemma Moore crossing for Annie Northwood also newly arrived this season to score her 4th goal since joining. The lead lasting 10 minutes Histon coming back to level were in front with 3 minutes left to play in the 2nd half scoring from a corner. Leading 2-1 at half-time Histon went further ahead 7 minutes into the 2nd half. Needham Market with an opportunity for an immediate reply a penalty awarded as Northwood is fouled by the keeper. Captain Nicola Henderson to take the spot kick struck low to make it 3-2. Needham Market pushing on looking for the levelling goal came on the 70th minute Northwood with her 2nd of the game to see Needham Market win a point from their opening league figure.

ERWFL Division One South

There will be some adjustment to the league table in ERWFL Division One South following the withdrawal of Bishops Stortford Ladies that will affect leaders Stevenage FC Women Development. For now though they topped the table with a 100% as they travelled to play Millwall Lionesses this Sunday. An opening game league win for Millwall up against the leaders this Sunday. Stevenage having the better of the 1st period taking a 1-0 lead into the dressing room at half-time with Sherrie Evans. Millwall improved in the 2nd half earning a point late in the game Shannan Drewe taking on players in the 90th minute to rifle the ball into the top corner to equalise.

Hutton Ladies impressive start to the season continues as they extend their 100% winning start to 4 matches in league and cup were away to Wodson Park Ladies this Sunday. Vicky Kinsman prolific in front of goal for Hutton joining the club last season has taken that form into the new season 7 goals from her previous 3 matches hit 4 this weekend to move into double figures. Sally Appleton on the scoresheet too with a goal for the Essex side her fifth of the season with both Chloe Eastwell and Laura Knight celebrating their 3rd goal each in a comfortable 7-0 win despite having Kate Lowen sent off.

A tough start to the season for both Lawford Ladies and Hoddesdon Town Owls Ladies. Both on 0 points Lawford losing their opening league game 9-1 at Hutton last weekend Hoddesdon losing their opening three. A chance to get points on the board as they faced each other this weekend at Lawford. Hoddesdon having the better of the first half to lead 3-1 at the break. Kristina O’Connell going on to score a hat-trick as Hoddesdon added a further 3 goals in the 2nd period to win 6-21 and collect their first 3 points of the season, Megan Davies, Laura Hasler and Hannah Knipe making her first appearance for Hoddesdon all scoring their 1st goals, Jessica Collison scoring for Lawford in the 1st half.

FAWNL Southern Premier Division

Heavy rainfall across the country overnight on Saturday seeing half the fixtures called off in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division their were 3 matches left but those featuring the top 3 sides leaders Crawley Wasps Ladies 3 points ahead of Plymouth Argyle Ladies and Cardiff City Ladies going into their match at home to Oxford United Women who held the only 100% left in the league going into the game albeit with just 2 matches played to date. Not much between the sides as they contested a goalless 1st half. Oxford beginning well 2nd half taking the lead from a corner in the 51st minute Gemma Sims with the strike. Crawley responding coming back to level 7 minutes later Faye Rabson brought down in the area, captain Naomi Cole sending the penalty home to make it 1-1. Rabson firing the hosts into the lead 5 minutes later, the lead extended to 3-1 midway through the 2nd half a corner from the left floated in to the box Darcey James up well to head the ball down towards goal to score. Crawley holding onto their lead despite having goalkeeper Frankie Gibbs red carded with 10 minutes left to play.

Plymouth Argyle Ladies were looking to continue their great run of form to 5 straight league wins as they travelled to the Stadium MK on Sunday to face Milton Keynes Dons Ladies. The hosts aiming to get back to winning ways themselves having collected just 1 point from their last 3 after a promising start to the season. The visitors taking the lead on the 20th minute wit Rebecca Dandridge on target to make it 1-0. Plymouth quickly 2-0 up as Natasha Knapman hit her 11th of the season. Milton Keynes getting it back to 2-1 before half-time, Kim Farrow credited with the goal. Plymouth made a lively start to the 2nd half extending their lead within 2 minutes of the restart with Helen Bleazard getting the goal. Jessie Jones with a superb 25 yard strike making it 4-1 to Plymouth on the hour. A great piece of individual play from Kayleigh Lane seeing Plymouth seal a 5-1 victory in the 89th minute to keep the pressure on leaders Crawley.

Cardiff City Ladies too 3 points behind the leaders going into their match on Sunday away to Yeovil Town Women. The hosts looking to build on last weekends draw away to Watford Ladies after losing the previous two. Chances for both, it was Cardiff who edged it at the break taking the lead midway through the first half. Grace Horrell setting up Gwennan Davies to send the ball past the keeper. Yeovil fighting back in the 2nd period to earn a point equalising from a corner the ball in not clear brought under control by Katie Jones making herself room inside the box to smash a shot in.

FAWNL South East Division One

A big game in FAWNL South East Division One at the start of the season with the top two meeting at the Goldstar Ground on Sunday, 2nd placed Ipswich Town Women 3 points behind leaders Billericay Town Ladies. Both sides unbeaten going into the match dropping just 2 points each. Ipswich attacking looking strong at the start of the game taking the lead on 28 minutes a free-kick awarded outside the area, a fantastic strike smashing down off the crossbar. The ball still in play possession regained wide left a dangerous cross fired in towards the near post, Natasha Thomas with great agility getting down to put her head on the goal and place it across goal wide of the keeper into the back of the net. 1-0. The hosts doubling their lead with a more direct approach with 5 minutes left to play in the first period, Paige Peake scoring direct from a corner angling her looping ball in over the keeper to drop under the bar. Billericay never out of the game working hard to get back into the match 2nd half pulled it back to 2-1, Therese Addison making a huge impact to the side since joining the club a strong individual run down the left carrying the ball on into the box blasting in her 3rd goal in 3 games. Ipswich keeping their Essex opponents at bay to hold onto their lead having opportunities to extend their lead won the 3 points to move level with Billericay on 16 points identical records Billericay top on alphabetical order.

Billericay and Ipswich are not alone at the top of the table with 3rd placed Leyton Orient WFC also matching their 16 point haul, just 2 goals the difference in their record. Were looking to make it 4 straight league wins as they played host to AFC Basildon Women on Sunday. A good start to the game for the visitors Basildon’s young side pressing their opponents, Leyton Orient coming back to end the first half well the sides drawing 0-0. An early opportunity for Basildon to break the dead lock in the 2nd half awarded a 48th minute penalty, goalkeeper Naomi Ogunde moving to her right making the save. The hosts finding the opening goal with 20 minutes left to play attacking down the right the ball put on for captain Sophie Le Marchand to take aim from outside the box and beat the advancing keeper. Leyton Orient strong toward the end of the game a goalkick intercepted played forwards for 2nd half substitute Paige Anderson-Jones making first appearance to score her first goal. 5 minutes left and Leyton Orient wrapped up a 3-0 victory with Otesha Charles on target for her 6th goal.

4th versus 5th in the South East Division One table too at the weekend with AFC Wimbledon in 5th hosting Enfield Town Ladies both sides looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season. All the goals coming in the first half Helen Ogle joining Wimbledon in the summer firing the hosts into an early lead making it 1-0 inside 5 minutes. Enfield coming back to level past the quarter hour through Beth Lumsden. Captain Katie Stanley with two cracking strikes midway through the 2nd half putting Wimbledon 3-1 ahead and seeing the 3 points won taking them above Enfield in the table.

Points needed elsewhere in the South East Division One table with two games featuring 4 of the bottom 5 sides at the weekend. Norwich City Ladies, looking to build on last Sunday’s home win over newly promoted Kent Football Unite were hosting the other newly promoted side this weekend Cambridge City Ladies who picked up a good point away to AFC Wimbledon last time out. Chelsea Garrett firing Norwich into the lead with her 5th goal of the season. Cambridge City striking to making it 1-1 for Cambridge City the visitors going on to take the lead Megan Tonks setting up Karly Tolentino to make it 2-1 a third goal scored late in the 1st half with Hannah Bodily scoring from a corner her 1st of the season. Norwich coming back well at the start of the 2nd half Natasha Snelling introduced from the bench scoring twice to get the hosts back on level terms. Cambridge City quick to retake the lead Shannon Shaw coming on scoring with her 1st touch to make it 4-3 and see Cambridge City win their first game in FAWNL South East Division One.

Stevenage FC Women having lost 4 matches in a row with just one win this were at home to Cambridge United Women at the weekend the visitors themselves having just 4 points on the board from their opening 6 matches. The hosts getting off the a good start taking the lead inside the opening 10 minutes Ashleigh Deacon with the run to set up captain Amy Makewell. Cambridge battling to keep a positive Stevenage from going further ahead 1-0 at the break. Stevenage beginning the 2nd period strongly adding a 2nd goal straight away through Gemma Biggadike her first of the season. Makewell getting her 2nd of the game to put Stevenage 3-0 two minutes later. Goalkeeper Hannah Vandersluis with two great saves to deny Cambridge getting a goal back Biggadike with a lob from outside the box securing a 4-0 win for Stevenage in the 65th minute.

Kick Cancer Cup 2019

Delighted to be covering a match report of a different variety on Women’s Football East, a special date in the women’s footballing calendar in Cambridgeshire now entering it’s 5th year the Kick Cancer Cup.

A charity match between Sam’s XI and an S-Tech XI League representative side, raising money for two very worthy causes, the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) and the Arthur Rank Hospice.

Invited to write a match report last year only too happy to cover it again having been a spectator at previous games. The Kick Cancer Cup set up by the aforementioned Sam, Samantha Isaacson with support from many friends and family. Sam was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer in 2015, both charities playing a large role in helping her with her ongoing treatment. In all that time has continued to play for her club Fulbourn Institute Bluebirds outfield or in goal. Sam has helped raise nearly £50,000 so far for charity.

The Kick Cancer Cup contested between Sam’s XI and an Cambridgeshire S-tech XI assembled from the clubs playing with the Premiership and Championship in the county 17 clubs in total represented. The S-Tech XI having had the better of Sam’s XI in the first 3 years of the Kick Cancer Cup. Sam’s XI winning the game for the first time last year 3-2 will be determined to make it back to back wins.

Plenty to be organised, cake stall, raffle, food and bar all available the venue Histon FC’s Glassworld Stadium the pitch a good size nice and wide in very good condition. Rain earlier in the week stayed away most of the day leaving a pleasant night for football. Musical entertainment from Holly Jean Sings before the match, a singer/songwriter from Cambridgeshire. The Cambridge Dynamite Cheerleaders putting on a display prior to kick-off with band 15:48 providing the half-time entertainment. A good sized crowd building as the two squads prepared for the game.

Large squads for both sides and substitutes happening on mass, didn’t even try to keep track of them, everyone playing their part in the event.

The S-Tech XI to get tonight’s charity match underway kicking off 1st half wearing grey coloured shirts with black shorts and socks. Sam’s XI wearing blue shirts a white upper part, black shorts and blue socks. The ball put back into defence sent long at the start out to the right Georgina Parrett making the run, Jess Anderson deals with the ball at the back for Sam’s XI on the immediate counter attack the ball forwards Marie Stubbings racing in behind, the ball safely gathered by Katie Cooper keeping goal for the S-Tech XI.

GOAL! An early goal capping a lively start to the game, the S-Tech XI attacking on the left wing the ball high slid forwards into the run of Hannah Lock sliding in to get to the ball before the defence sends in past goalkeeper Samantha Issacson across the face of goal and in of the opposite post to opening the scoring 0-1.

Laura Mills advancing with the ball down the right for Sam’s XI lays it forwards with Stubbings bursting through the middle, just a little too early the flag up against her. Both sides looking to get forwards quickly S-Tech clear on the right a cross/shot fired along the front of goal out past the far post. Parrett looks to put Peggy Keeler in as the full back goes past her in attack, Anderson across to win the challenge. The ball fed through the middle into Stubbings top of the D she looks to pass the Katie Luddy up with her, Beth Goodman close in defending against Luddy to set up an attack for the S-Tech XI, Parrett lively on the right early on.

GOAL! Sam’s XI come back to level the scores turning play around defending the ball put on over halfway with Stubbings latching onto it off like a hare baring down on the area into the box closing in on the six yard box can’t be caught opens her body to send a low shot under the keeper before she can get down to save 1-1. 10 minutes gone.

GOAL! No sooner have they got back on level terms then Sam’s XI concede, Chloe Stanborough playing in centre midfield of the S-Tech Xi taking the ball on travelling a pace right side before cutting back and strike the ball well form 25 yards out the ball racing across the keeper into the bottom corner 1-2.

Sam’s XI push on in attack Krissie Taylor up with Stubbings top of the area outnumbering Keller, the defender nevertheless cool under pressure keeping her eyes on the ball not letting either it get away from her before clearing for Parrett to bring up field. Mills always ready to take players on attacking down the right wins a throw deep. Keeler the first change of the match coming off with Caitlin McGeown joining the S-Tech defence. McGeown called into action straight away the ball in from the right evading the crowded near post area runs across goal, Taylor ready to pounce inside the six yard box McGeown nipping in in front of her to win the ball and clear.

Issacson with a fantastic save down low at her near post to deny Parrett a goal as she slides in to push the ball goalwards inside the area. The ball put long for Sam’s XI, Stubbings controlling well bringing it on to the top of the S-Tech area, the opposition defence closing her option Stubbings lays it back to the advancing, Vicky Houchin she leans into a shot from 25 yards out the ball looping towards goal not troubling Cooper. A free-kick on halfway for the S-Tech XI, Goodman over it, decides to try her luck sending a high ball towards goal, drops behind for a goal kick.

Taylor combining with Stubbings as they advance for Sam’s XI through the middle, McGeown coming in field tackling to regain possession. Great running from Mills on Sam’s XI right wing getting deep squared a cross in intercepted and cleared near post by S-Tech’s Steph Swinyard. S-Tech quick to launch a counter offensive Stanborough on for Fran Kavanagh to race clear right channel into the area one on one with the keeper, Issacson stays big to make the blocking save as Kavanagh shoots.

I’m getting little opportunity to put the pen down the action one end the the other Stubbings forever a threat ready to burst in behind, Cooper making the decision to race out of her box in an attempt to reach the ball before Stubbings can shoot, the ball put past the keeper, rolls agonisingly wide of the far post. Half and hour played sees a change en masse think Cooper’s still the only one out there a new team for both sides with 15 minutes of the half left. A free-kick on halfway right for the S-Tech XI, Beth Harding on it the ball towards the top of the area headed on into the area hooked clear by the Sam’s XI defence a counter on Stacey Kemp making the central run shoots from all of 30 yards out, Cooper back peddling towards her goal able to gather the ball.

GOAL! Sam’s XI taking full advantage of all the new additions to the action bringing it back to 2-2. Stacey Fullicks building a career as a referee these days marking her return from a 4 week injury lay off with a playing cameo tonight on the ball for Sam’s Xi left side lifts the pass on for Tash Applegate in attack coming over to receive the ball a good touch and turn sees her escape her marker to make for the area, the keeper coming out to challenge a 50/50 challenge off her legs Applegate off balance staying on her feet after the ball deflected in behind and sends a shot from inside the six yard box to score 2-2.

The new look Sam’s XI bright as they push on Fullicks keen to get forwards on the left, Harding sliding into the tackle forcing her wide, Fullicks keeping possession to cross can only find the side netting. Sam’s XI press the advantage winning a corner, the ball in towards the far post claimed confidently by the keeper. Another corner finding it’s way to though to Fullicks inside the area looks to dig the ball out of her feet between the Harding and Davies get the ball clear. Half-time entertainment underway, a fantastic crowd in attendance over 500 people great to see and a great atmosphere. Emma Place on for Nat Wells at the start of the 2nd period for Sam’s XI who restart the match, S-Tech quickly pressing the ball getting away on the right a throw won deep, the ball helped on into the area cleared, Sam’s XI breaking left side the ball lifted on Kemp getting a shot away to beat the advancing keeper but play brought back with an up raised flag.

Harding offering herself for a short corner on the left the ball crossed in ventral top of the box Clocherty getting a shot away the ball running wide. Eleanor McLeish making a good run across her opponents defence left to right as the ball is played over the top controls well to unleash a shot back across goal from 25 yards out the strike rolling wide of the far post.

Good work between Kirby and Seema Grewal combining right side for Sam’s Xi sees Kemp away to attack centrally, challenged the ball out for a throw. The trio with more good work passing the ball between them to make ground up the pitch succeed in finding Fullicks on the clear wide left. Fullicks driving infield strong on the ball taking it into the box the angle tight her shot blocked, the ball lose at the near post Applegate latching onto it sees another block coming in deflected out of the box a distance shot falling behind the goal.

A free-kick wide right for Sam’s XI, Applegate over it a good delivery into the area headed clear, Kirstie Smith latching onto it 20 yards out her shot rising over the crossbar. The 2nd change en masse now as the game enters the final half hour. Is an entertaining contest a large pitch both sides looking to get in behind, the crowd enjoying the occasion. Jess Farchica bringing the ball on from the back for the S-Tech XI, has ICA Sports team mate Carmen Herridge ahead of her she rolls it on for Melissa Collins the ball taken wide into the corner a great cross flashes in across the six yard box dangerous but no one can get a touch to turn it towards goal. Leah Harper taking the ball forwards central S-Tech regaining some momentum, rolled into Collins, tackled top of the box.

Harper getting in behind on the left into the area closed down lays it back to Herridge, Georgia Astley Tyler getting back on her to challenge has a free-kick given against her.

Harper lively for the S-Tech XI winning a late corner, fired in low into a crowded six yard box at the near post a shot blasted goalwards, Grewal defending the post blocking on the line, another scramble for the ball mayhem before the keeper can get down to smother the ball. Molloy clearing a Jasmine Luckett sees a shot charged down, the S-Tech side pushing for a late winner, Dortch with a strike from distance save in the keepers gloves. S-Tech to get the shootout underway the ball struck low and accurate into the bottom left corner 1-0.

Michelle McCormack up first for Sam’s XI, opens her body to sends a pacy low drive wide of the keeper 1-1.

S-Tech’s 2nd penalty struck high evading the diving keeper to nestle into the back of the net 2-1.

Sam’s XI, 2nd penalty touched onto the post by the keeper diving at full stretch advantage S-Tech 2-1.

The advantage gone straight away S-Tech’s next penalty hit central not having the height or power to beat the keeper 2-1.

A chance for Sam’s XI to level things up Issacson to take their 3rd penalty struck well low into the bottom corner 2-2.

McLeish up to take S-Tech’s 4th penalty hit well to the keepers right to make it 3-2.

Luddy to take the 4th penalty for Sam’s XI confident to make it 3-3.

Farchica strikes her penalty low to the left of the keeper, guessing right is down to save at full stretch 3-3.

A chance to win it for Sam’s Xi the 5th penalty hit high the goalkeeper diving to push the ball away to send the shootout to sudden death 3-3.

Beth Goodman to take S-Tech’s sixth penalty however she has to make a dash to the dug out to grab her boots, new tactics as she ties her laces before the spot, does the trick as she blasts the ball home! 4-3 (may well be the new routine should Ketton Ladies face any penalty shootouts during the season).

A penalty shootout win for the S-Tech XI to win back the Kick Cancer Cup, truth though everyone’s a winner out there playing the game for a great cause regardless of the result.

A hugely enjoyable night, fantastic football despite all the changes everyone enjoying themselves a crowd of over 500 in attendance and I’m sure lots raised for charity. Congratulations to everyone playing, officiating and organising the event. Grateful to write a report, hopefully everyone is where I thought they were.
