One game in the FAWPL Southern Division this Sunday and West Ham United Ladies were on a high coming off the back of a sensational win at The Valley in midweek ending leaders Charlton Athletic Women’s perfect start to the season 8 straight wins to start the season West Ham United winning 3-1 coming off the back of a 5-0 win against Swindon Town the previous Sunday. Taking on Coventry United Ladies this Sunday another side building some momentum in the league after a poor start by their standards. It was the visiting side who opening the scoring Alison Hall putting the ball into the back of the net in the 20th minute. West Ham responded to level the scores before half-time Andreya Ezekie-Meade making it 1-1 in the 36th minute. West Ham continued to create chances 2nd half, so to did Coventry finding the winning goal in the 70th minute of the match Hall with her 2nd of the game sealing the 3 points and moving Coventry into the top half of the table.
FAWPL South East Division One
A real title contest shaping up in FAWPL South East Division One after the results in midweek AFC Wimbledon Ladies topped the table but their are just 2 points between them and 4th placed Milton Keynes Dons Ladies. Ipswich Town Ladies and Leyton Orient WFC in between. Leyton Orient WFC on a run of 5 straight league wins were once again playing at The Matchroom Stadium this Sunday hosting Actonians Ladies in 6th looking to make ground on the leading quartet. Both sides scoring plenty of goals this season so far it was no surprise they both found the goals again this time around a 7 goal thriller between the sides. Actonians Ladies beating Leyton Orient 5-1 in the reverse fixture at the start of the season. The scores tied at 1-1 at half-time it was an exciting contest 2nd half. Chloe McNee scoring for Leyton Orient in the 1st half two quickfire goals from Sophie Le Marchand on 67 and newly introduced Sarka Stryhalova on 70 saw the home side score 3. Actonians edged the result to do the double over Leyton Orient winning 4-3 thanks to goals from Claire Hollingsworth, Jessica Byrne and a brace for Alessandra Barreca.
Milton Keynes Dons Ladies were away to Denham United Ladies in the league this Sunday in a rich vein of form winning their last 5 league games the latest 2-0 away to Cambridge United WFC in midweek. Denham United Ladies held the lead at half-time 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Alissa Down scoring from a free-kick in the 17th minute. Held onto the lead as the game approached the final quarter hour Milton Keynes Dons levelling the score Alice Hughes netting to make it 1-1 the points shared between the sides who meet again this Sunday in the League Plate. The point enough to lift Milton Keynes Dons up into 2nd.
FAWPL Cup
4 ties played this weekend in the FAWPL Cup 1st Round it was a top of the tables clash between Charlton Athletic Women of the Southern Division hosting South East Division One leaders AFC Wimbledon Ladies at Thamesmead. An exciting game between the sides with a dramatic finish. Rebecca Sargent getting Wimbledon off to a great start putting them 1-0 inside the opening 5 minutes. Charlotte Lee getting Charlton back on level terms on the half hour. 1-1 the scores at half-time Lee scored again in the 61st minute to put Charlton 2-1 up looked to be heading for the win deep into injury time 90+7 and Wimbledon levelled it at 2-2 Katie Stanley scoring, time left for another goal just when Wimbledon thought they’d forced extra-time Charlton went straight up the other end to score win the game 3-2 Charlotte Gurr getting the goal to send them through.
Crystal Palace Ladies and Lewes FC Women met for the 3rd time this season, currently 3rd and 2nd in the Southern Division table have beaten each other in their respective league games before this Sunday’s FAWPL Cup 1st Round tie both in good form it was Lewes FC Women who had the best of the 1st half goals from Amy Taylor on 14 minutes and Avilla Bergin on 32 giving them a 2-0 lead at the break. Crystal Palace pulling it back to 2-1 on 58 minutes Gemma Bryan with the goal Lewes defended well to win through to the next round.
A South Coast derby in the FAWPL Cup 1st Round between Southampton Women at home to Portsmouth FC Ladies. The Southern Division side taking the lead in the 13th minute Gemma Hillier scoring, Shannon Albuery also finding the back of the net in the 24th minute to make it 2-0 at the break for the visitors. Laura Vokes got it back to 2-1 early in the 2nd half for Southampton before Natasha Stephens scored for Portsmouth to restore their 2 goal cushion and see them through to the next round of the competition.
The last of the FAWPL Cup 1st Round ties featuring sides from this region was an all South East Division One clash the A10 derby between Enfield Town Ladies and Cambridge United WFC. 2 goals in the 1st half won it for Cambridge United WFC. A rare goal for midfielder Laura Baker along with a goal from striker Kelley Blanchflower securing the victory.
FAWPL Plate
One 1st Round tie from the FAWPL Plate this weekend an all South East Division One clash between the bottom two in the league with Haringey Borough Women travelling up to Norfolk for the 2nd time this season to face Norwich City Ladies. In their league encounter Norwich ran out 7-0 winners to claim their only league win of the season. Were dominant once again Natasha Snelling opening the scoring on 13 minutes to give Norwich the lead. Charlotte Broad on the half hour making it 2-0. Aimee Durrant extending Norwich’s lead 10 minutes into the 2nd half adding another with 5 minutes left to play. Laura Thacker sealing a 5-0 victory with the final kick of the game deep into injury time to send Norwich into the 2nd Round. Haringey ending the game with 10, Naomi Graham sent off.
Following the action in midweek on the FAWPL Southern Division, leaders Charlton Athletic Women were looking to extend their winning run at the start of the season to 6 games as they played host to 3rd placed C&K Basildon Ladies the other only unbeaten side in the league on Sunday. Kit Graham opened the scoring for Charlton netting in the 21st minute. Charlotte Gurr adding a 2nd goal for Charlton 5 minutes before the break to see them leading 2-0. Katie Flack extended the lead for the home side on the hour mark. Emma Sherwood introduced in the 68th minute scored for Charlton on 72 minutes the lead 4-0. Angela Addison pulling a goal back for C&K Basildon. Goalkeeper Nikita Runnacles saving a penalty for the visitors who suffer their 1st league defeat of the season, Charlton 6 wins from 6 are 5 points clear at the top.
Lewes FC Women are on an incredible run 3 successive 1-0 home wins including a late winning goal against unbeaten Crystal Palace Ladies in midweek, are now up to 2nd in the Southern Division table as they extended that run of wins to 4 in the league on the road this time playing Chichester City Ladies. It was the home side in good form themselves who took the lead 20 minutes into the game Chloe Tucker firing home. Katie McIntyre pulling Lewes level with 10 minutes of the 1st half left to play. The winning goal coming early in the 2nd half Rebecca Carter putting Lewes ahead on 54 minutes.
Portsmouth FC Ladies having started the season well had suffered 2 narrow 1-0 defeats to stall their momentum in the league, earned a point with a 2-2 draw at home to Chichester City Ladies in midweek. It was late drama at home on Sunday against West Ham United Ladies that saw them win all 3 points. 0-0 going into the last 10 minutes of the game, Shannon Seivwright put Portsmouth ahead in the 84th minute. West Ham responded and Chenise Austin put the ball into the back of the net to level the scores in the 88th minute. Rachel Panting winning it for Portsmouth 3 minutes into injury time, the win lifting Portsmouth back up the table into 5th spot.
FAWPL South East Division One
AFC Wimbledon Ladies beat Actonians Ladies 3-0 on Thursday night to make it 4 wins in a row to take them to the top of the FAWPL South East Division One table. Weren’t in action on Sunday and the two sides that could have retaken top spot both suffered defeat.
One of those was Luton Town Ladies were at home playing new promoted Leyton Orient WFC. The sides had met in the same fixture in the Determining Round of the FAWPL Cup at the start of the month, Leyton Orient picking up their 1st win of the season 4-2. Since then Leyton Orient have won twice in the league to climb the table. That good form continued on Sunday, Sarka Stryhalova putting them into the lead in the 17th minute added a 2nd goal just past the half hour. Sophie Le Marchand scoring late in the 1st half to put the visitors 3-0 up. Chanel Richards making it 4-0 in the 2nd half a 3rd straight league win lifting Leyton Orient into 2nd.
Ipswich Town Ladies were on a high travelling down to play Enfield Town Ladies on Sunday after beating East Anglian rivals Norwich City Ladies 5-0 in midweek. Enfield with just one win on the board going into the game were 2nd bottom. Brought Ipswich back down to earth with a good 1st half, Alena Berganovic scoring to put the home 1 up on 9 minutes. Two quickfire goals just past the half hour from Lisa Kline and captain Regan Coleman giving Enfield a 3-0 1st half lead. Ipswich threatened a comeback 2nd half goals from Natasha Thomas and Jacqueline Ball making it 3-2 Enfield held on for their 2nd league win of the 2nd. Ipswich Town having led the table after their midweek win remain 3rd in the table suffered huge blow however despite the derby win it was marred by an injury to goalkeeper Leanne Smith has snapped her ACL an operation to come, wishing her all the best for that and the recovery that follows.
A late goal in midweek away to Milton Keynes Dons Ladies saw Cambridge the last remaining side in FAWPL South East Division One lose that tag. At home on Sunday looking to bounce back against Denham United Ladies. Goalless after the 1st 45 minutes it was Denham who took the lead early in the 2nd half Sophie Cheadle on target. Cambridge responded with 2 goals to go in front Lauren Gibson then captain Laura Bright scoring from a corner. Into the last 5 minutes and a great goal from Annie Hewitt saw Denham level the scores at 2-2 to see the points shared.
FAWPL Cup
Two sides from the FAWPL Southern and South East Division One were drawn to play in the Cup competition’s preliminary round. Southern Division, Crystal Palace travelling down to the South Coast to play Poole Town Ladies from South West Division One. Gemma Bryan putting Crystal Palace in full control of the game scoring 5 goals in the 1st half, giving her 19 goals already from just 7 played. Was substituted early 2nd half giving Poole a little respite. Nikita Whinnett extending the scoreline in the 65th minute. Ellie Stenning ad Sandra Martin both grabbing a goal in the last 10 minutes for the visitors in an 8-0 win.
Also travelling to the South Coast in the FAWPL Cup preliminary round were Actonians Ladies from South East Division One taking on South West counterparts Southampton Women both sides starting the season well, little separating them goalless after 90 minutes the game heading into extra-time. Actonians conceding early on through an own goal Jane Yeates doubled Southampton’s lead in the 1st period of extra-time to see them progress through to the 1st Round.
A break in the league action in the FAWPL this weekend as the sides across the 6 Division’s begin the FAWPL Cup competition into its 4th season now beginning with a Determining Round the sides meeting with those victorious progressing into the 1st Round of the Cup those losing out going on to compete in the FAWPL Plate. The FAWPL Southern Division has dominated the Cup competition since its conception Charlton Athletic Women winning it 3 seasons ago, Tottenham Hotspur Ladies successfully retaining the trophy they won in 2015/16 this May. Likewise the Plate, for the past two season’s won by FAWPL Southern Division, Coventry United Ladies then followed by Lewes FC Women last season. Will be a new name on both trophies this time around with Tottenham promoted to FAWSL 2 and Lewes winning their FAWPL Cup Determining Round to enter the Cup proper, will sides from the Southern and South East continue to dominate? Alot of goals scored this weekend with some huge scores racked up.
Onto the weekends action and we’ll start with Lewes FC Women who were at home at The Dripping Pan taking on South West Division One side Southampton Saints Girls & Ladies. All square at 1-1 after 90 minutes it took the Southern Division side extra-time to beat their lower league opponents. Lewes created plenty of opportunities 1st half, Southampton battling hard to defend held them to a goalless score at half-time actually took the lead 2nd half Sabrina Morriss-Manoslava scoring in the 58th minute. Lewes were quick to reply Amy Taylor scoring the equaliser 5 minutes later. No more goals scored in regular time the tie headed to extra-time. Lewes went all the way to penalties against Cambridge United WFC last season losing the entered the Plate… the rest is history. This time the game didn’t get that far, Leeta Rutherford and Dani lane both finding the extra half hour to see Lewes win 3-1.
It was always going to be a big test for South East Division One newcomers Haringey Borough Women in the Determining Round after they were drawn away to Coventry United Ladies the FAWPL Southern Division powerhouse scoring 8 goals before half-time doubled that score in the 2nd half to win 16-1. The scoring opened in the 6th minute by Stephanie Smith went on to add a hat-trick of goals 2nd half giving her 4 in the game. 4 goals too for substitute Helen Dermody. Leah Seivwright and Alison Hall both scoring twice in the 1st half, Marie Gauntlett introduced 2nd half also grabbing 2 goals. Keeley Davies and Jade Brook also scoring in the 1st half. Haringey’s tough start to life in the FAWPL continues.
Crystal Palace Ladies are the early leaders in the FAWPL Southern Division a hot goal scoring form already were at home to Brislington Ladies from South West Division One in the Determining Round powered their way into a 6-0 lead at half-time, Nikita Whinnett opening the scoring as early as the 2nd minute. Rosie Payne had them 2-0 up inside 5 minutes, Gemma Bryan grabbing a 1st half brace along with Whinnett, Ciara Sherwood making it 6-0 in the 42nd minute. Ellie Bailes made it 7-0 2 minutes into the 2nd half Bryan completing her hat-trick 5 minutes later. Jodie Arkell pulling a goal back for Brislington before both Sherwood and Payne added a 2nd goal each in a 10-1 win.
Charlton Athletic Women went 1 goal better with a double figure win away to fellow Southern Division side Swindon Town Ladies. New signing Ellie Dorey scoring a 1st half hat-trick for the visitors. Charlotte Lee and Charlotte Gurr both scoring in the 1st half to see Charlton 5-0 up. Gurr going on to score another early 2nd half then complete her hat-trick with 15 minutes left. Before that Charley Clifford netted a brace with Hope Nash getting a goal on the hour mark. Dorey making it 11-0 with her 4th with 5 minutes left.
A high score too at Canvey Island FC for C&K Basildon Ladies at home to South West Division One side Basingstoke Town Ladies in the Determining Round, Angela Addison getting her name on the scoresheet 5 times. Jay Blackie too with her 1st goals of the season scoring a hat-trick as the Essex side ran out 8-0 winners.
Portsmouth FC Ladies fine start to the season continued this Sunday in the Determining Round as they made it 3 wins in a row to advance into the Cup proper. Away to fellow Southern Division side QPR Ladies, goals from Jade Widdowson, Molly Clark and Natasha Stephens securing a 3-0 victory.
Cardiff City Ladies had lost their opening 2 Southern Division games made the long trip to Norfolk to play South East Division One side Norwich City Ladies in the Determining Round. A hat-trick for Cori Williams plus a goal each for Ella Powell and Kelly Issac saw them through comfortably with a 5-0 win.
Chichester City Ladies at home to West Ham United Ladies was the other all Southern Division tie to be played in the Determining Round on Sunday. The league newcomers had lost their opening two league fixtures into the cup and Chichester City picked up their 1st victory of the season Jess Lewry giving them a 1-0 first half lead scoring in the 13th minute. Doubled their lead on the hour mark. West ham United pulled it back to 2-1 with less than 15 minutes left Charlotte Burr finding the back of the net. Two late goals for Chichester City saw them through with a 4-1 win Cherelle Khassel scoring with 3 minutes left, Chloe Tucker on 90 minutes.
Nicole Emmings early goal for Stevenage Ladies was enough for the FAWPL South East Division One side to beat Southern Division opponents Gillingham FC Ladies on Sunday in the Determining Round as the lower division side defended well to keep Gillingham from getting back on level terms.
FAWPL South East Division One leaders Actonians Ladies headed to Gloucestershire to play South West counterparts, Cheltenham Town Ladies in this weekends Determining Round. The visitors coming home narrow winners with Jessica Byrne and Catherine Murphy scoring in a 2-1 win, Louise Fensome netting for Cheltenham.
Rivalry resumed this Sunday as Milton Keynes Dons Ladies met AFC Wimbledon Ladies for the 2nd successive weekend. Wimbledon won last week at home in the league were the away side this time a closely fought contest in the Determining Round they emerged as winners again a single goal settling the tie scored by Katie Stanley 2 minutes into the 2nd half.
Cambridge United WFC made the long trip west to play South West Division One side St Nicholas Ladies. Teonie Payton was making her 1st team start after impressing for the Reserves last season and celebrated by scoring 2 goals. Also stepping up from the Reserves, striker Lauren Gibson scored her 1st goal for the 1st team this season, aswell as new signing Amy Howlett. Emma Jenkins also amongst the goalscorers for Cambridge in a 5-0 win.
Another South East Division One side making a long trip west on Sunday in the Determining Round was Ipswich Town Ladies again against South West opposition, Larkhall Athletic Ladies. Cassandra Craddock returning to the club this season scoring a hat-trick in the game. Sophie Welton also bagging a brace. Victoria Campbell, Jade Henry and Roxanne Small also adding to the goals tally in an 8-1 win.
0-0 between Enfield Town Ladies and South West Division One side Keynsham Town Ladies at half-time there were 5 goals scored in the 2nd half, Keynsham with 2 goals a hat-trick from Enfield Town captain Reagan Coleman including a penalty saw the home side with the Determining Round tie 3-2.
Leyton Orient WFC newly promoted to South East Division One travelled to fellow league side Luton Town Ladies in the Determining Round looking for their 1st win of the season against a side that had started well with 2 wins from 2.Jess Mckay put Luton into the lead. Leyton Orient came back to lead 2-1 by half-time Sophie Le Marchand and Belen Ripoll-Douton with the goals Nicola Henman got Luton back to 2-2 2nd half before Ellie Davies gave Leyton Orient the lead again in the 67th minute. Ella Meadowcroft securing the win with 3 minutes left for the visitors Leyton Orient winning 4-2.
Denham United Ladies travelled down to the south coast to play South West Division One side Southampton Women, despite goals form Sophie Cheadle and Alissa Down the South East Division One side enter the Plate competition losing 4-2 Laura Vokes with a brace along with goals for Emma Pinner and Kellie Warren with the goal for Southampton.
Was an all FAWPL Southern Division Final for the 2nd season running in the FAWPL Cup. Last season Tottenham Hotspur Ladies beat Cardiff City Ladies to win the trophy this year defending the cup Tottenham have reached their 2nd successive final the newly crowned league champions looking to add to their league and cup double by winning the League Cup once again, their opponents Charlton Athletic Women who had the edge going into the match having defeated them in both the league and Capital Women’s Cup recently.
Proved to be a close match an intriguing contest played at The Lamex Stadium home of Stevenage FC. Goalless at the end of the regular 90 minutes the final went into extra-time again the extra period unable to see either side find the break through going all the way to penalties who would hold their nerve. Tottenham scored their 1st penalty, goalkeeper Toni-Anne Wayne saved Charlton’s 1st spot kick, the next 2 converted Tottenham leading 2-1 Wendy Martin up next saw her penalty saved. Kit Graham levelling it up at 2-2 went to 3-3, Katie O’Leary out for much of the season for Tottenham made it 4-3 with the 5th penalty kick. Wayne saved Grace Coombs spot kick to see Tottenham win the shootout and lift the FAWPL Cup!

FAWPL Southern Division
A huge game in the FAWPL Southern Division on Sunday in the battle for the league’s runners-up spot with 2nd Placed Coventry United Ladies travelling to Wales to play 4th placed Cardiff City Ladies, 4 points between the sides, a win for Coventry United Ladies would virtually see then secure 2nd. An injury blow for Cardiff City early in the match Abbie Britton breaking her tibia, wishing her well and a speedy recovery. Despite that Cardiff City went on to take the lead 1st half Chloe Chivers with the goal. Coventry pulling it back to 1-1 Alison Hall on target 5 minutes before half-time. Always likely to be a close contest a single goal was to settle it in the 2nd half and it was the visitors who were celebrating Amber Hughes scoring inside the final 15 minutes to see Coventry win 2-1. Three points clear of 3rd placed Charlton Athletic Women with one match left to play a +7 goal difference a point from their game away to Portsmouth will secure runners up spot.
Portsmouth FC Ladies were given a day to remember this Sunday as they got to play at Fratton Park once again, a great experience for the club. Safe in 8th place were hosting bottom side Queens Park Rangers Ladies nothing less than a win would do going into their penultimate game of the season. Portsmouth raced into an early lead however Samantha Quayle putting them in front in the 8th minutes was on target with a great strike in the 22nd minute, Natasha Stephens adding a 3rd goal in the 28th minute. QPR Ladies got a goal back before half-time Nikki Waterman scoring in the 35th minute. Another goal with 5 minutes left in the 2nd half wasn’t enough for QPR, Sara Ezzahiri scoring going down 3-2 will finish bottom their last game at Swindon Town Ladies could yet end up level on points with a win however Swindon Town have a superior goal difference a win for them or even a draw should West Ham United Ladies lose to Tottenham on the final day could see then finish 9th.
Lewes Ladies were comfortable in mid-table as they travelled to Essex on Sunday for their final game of the season to play C&K Basildon Ladies a place above them in 6th. Sian Heather gave Lewes the lead a minute before half-time. Georgia Bridges doubled the lead in the 58th minute to see Lewes end their campaign with a 2-0 win, the FAWPL Plate Winners enjoying a very good season moving into 6th a point a head of with a better goal difference, C&K Basildon host Charlton Athletic Women on the final day only a win would see them take back 6th place.
FAWPL South East Division One
With the title already settled in FAWPL South East Division One the battle for 2nd was where the focus was this Sunday a 3 way contest between AFC Wimbledon Ladies, Cambridge United WFC and Milton Keynes Dons Ladies. Wimbledon weren’t in action. Cambridge United WFC were hosting unbeaten Champions, Gillingham FC Ladies looking to recover from last weeks loss to Luton Town Ladies. Laura Mills gave Cambridge United WFC the lead in the 1st half. Held the advantage going into the final 15 minutes of the game, Gillingham determined to go the season unbeaten found a leveller Felicity Gibbons making it 1-1 in the 78th minute then just 3 minutes later Charlotte Gurr made it 2-1 the final score Gillingham remain unbeaten with one league game left, Gibbons and Gurr a deadly strike force netting 86 goals between them this season and Gurr wasn’t there at the start of the season.
Milton Keynes Dons Ladies 4th going into their game on Sunday were away to Enfield Town Ladies. The home side taking the lead through Juliet Thomas. Milton Keynes Dons came back to secure the win and with Cambridge United losing climb up to 2nd in the table. Goals from Hannah Barrett taking her to 18 for the season and Tayla Duffy seeing the 3 points won.
Actonians Ladies were hosting Ipswich Town Ladies on Sunday following on from a 5-1 home win in the East Anglian derby match against Norwich in midweek, Ipswich Town made it 2 wins from two. Goals from Jade Henry and Sophie Welton cancelling out Melissa Jung’s goal for Actonians Ladies an 3rd 2-1 away win at the weekend.
The away wins continued on Sunday with Luton Town Ladies taking advantage of Actonians loss to climb above them into 5th place in the FAWPL South East Division One table. Travelling to bottom side Lowestoft Town Ladies a brace for Jess McKay along with another goal for Asia Brown seeing Luton Town win 3-0.
A vital win away from home for 2nd bottom Norwich City Ladies on Sunday as they battle to avoid relegation taking on Denham United Ladies, Norwich put in a strong 1st half performance Chelsea Garrett and Paige Shorten scoring for the visitors Denham putting through their own net twice. Denham pulled a goal back just before half time adding a 2nd in the 2nd half but Norwich held on for the 3 points, Aimee Durn and Rebecca French scoring for Denham. Norwich move 4 points clear of Lowestoft who they have to play in their final 3 games. Are 4 points behind Stevenage Ladies in 9th with 2 games in hand.
March started off pretty much the same as February and January before that with a whole host of postponements across the whole of the region that saw 50% of the scheduled fixtures lost to the heavy ran that fell over the weekend. Some big games did beat the weather however most notably in the FAWPL Cup and Plate competitions which had reached the semi-final stage with 3 of the 4 games taking place.
FAWPL Cup
In the FAWPL Cup it will be an all Southern Division final and two familiar adversaries contesting yet another trophy. FAWPL Cup holders, Tottenham Hotspur Ladies were hosting Cardiff City Ladies in this years competition having beaten them in the final itself last season 2-1 to lift the trophy. Tottenham aiming to reach their 2nd successive FAWPL Cup final took the lead on the half hour Wendy Martin (pictured) turning Rhianna Soobadoo’s cross into the back of the net. 1-0 the lead at the break, Leah Rawle was on hand to turn the back into the back of the net after Cardiff City goalkeeper Zoe Atkins initially palmed Martin’s shot away to make it 2-0. Nikita Whinnett making the result safe for Tottenham scoring their 3rd in the last 10 minutes to see them celebrating reaching another final as their impressive unbeaten run goes on.
Playing Tottenham Hotspur Ladies in the FAWPL Cup final will be, Charlton Athletic Women although they were forced into extra-time after a 2nd half come back from opponents Blackburn Rovers Ladies. The current leaders of both the Northern and Southern Division’s. Kit Graham put Charlton 1-0 with just under 10 minutes of the 1st half left a narrow advantage at the break the home side doubled their lead early in the 2nd half Gemma Shephard with another goal as she settles back in where she left off after her injury layoff.
Blackburn Rovers came back into the game getting it back to 2-1 with 15 minutes left to play, Saffron Jordon getting the goal and with less than 5 minutes of the 90 left the visitors equalised, Lynda Shepherd making it 2-2 to force the semi-final into extra-time. Stefanie Simmons having come on for Charlton with lass that 15 minutes left of normal time the hero in extra-time scoring 2 goals late in the 2nd period of the 15. 4-2 the lead Blackburn Rovers pulled one goal back at the death Jordon with her 2nd of the game, a red for Blackburn’s Ellie Stewart at the end of the game 2 shown a 2nd yellow card as they exit the competition
FAWPL Plate
Whilst Leicester City WFC & Lewes Ladies will have to try again this coming Sunday to reach the final of the FAWPL Plate after their semi-final was postponed they both know who they will face in the final next month as FAWPL Northern Division side, Huddersfield Town Ladies over came FAWPL South East Division One side, Actonians Ladies to book their spot in this season’s final. Actonians Ladies travelled north knowing a side from their Division had reached the final of the FAWPL Plate just last season a memorable occasion for Enfield Town Ladies if not the result. This Sunday no home soil their higher league opponents proving too strong were leading 4-0 at half-time 2 goals for Emily Heller along with a goal a piece for Katie Mallin and Katie Nutter. Heller completed her hat-trick 10 minutes into the 2nd half Charley Evans scoring Huddersfield’s 6th goal in a 6-1 win, Jessica Byrne scoring for Actonians as their fantastic run in the competition comes to an end.
FAWPL South East Division One
Two games played in FAWPL South East Division One on Sunday and Gillingham FC Ladies move to within a point of league leaders Milton Keynes Dons Ladies after a comfortable win at home against Enfield Town Ladies. Felicity Gibbons (pictured) setting the ball rolling scoring inside the 1st minute for Gillingham. Jenny Newman had Gillingham 2-0 in the 8th minute. Gibbons adding a 2nd goal to her tally with 20 minutes played as Gillingham set about taking control of the game. Recently signed Rosie Kmita making it 4-0 before half-time. Gibbons went on to complete her hat-trick with 3 minutes of the 2nd half starting captain Jade Keogh also on target in the 2nd half to see Gillingham win 6-0 remain unbeaten in the league with games in hand on the leaders too.
Moving up a place in the FAWPL South East Division One table are AFC Wimbledon Ladies moving above Cambridge United WFC who saw their game away to Lowestoft Town Ladies postponed into 3rd place. Away on Sunday playing Stevenage Ladies, Katie Stanley gave AFC Wimbledon an early lead scoring in the 2nd minute. Stanley added a 2nd goal midway through the 1st half to see the visitors lead 2-0 at the break, Stevenage missing a chance to reduce the deficit shooting wide from the penalty spot. A flurry of goals late in the 2nd half as captain Donna McGuigan pulled a goal back from a corner for Stevenage. Getting it back to 2-1 AFC Wimbledon ended the game in storming fashion 5 minutes left to play a quickfire double from Rebecca Sargent made it 4-1, time for another goal with just a minute left Laura Low netting to make the final score 5-1 and see AFC Wimbledon take the 3 points home with them.
This weekend saw the quarter finals of the FAWPL Cup and Plate competitions being played.
FAWPL Cup
4 sides from the FAWPL Southern Division had reached the quarter finals of the FAWPL Cup with 3 of those making it through to the semi-finals of the competition on Sunday. Cup Holders Tottenham Hotspur Ladies were at home playing fellow Southern Division side Crystal Palace Ladies who had a few players out through injury and illness. Tottenham got off to a brilliant start Nikita Whinnett putting them into the lead after just 14 seconds. Whinnett went on to score again in the 7th minute to make it 2-0. Wendy Martin heading the ball into the back of the net with 4 minutes left in the 1st half to see Tottenham lead 3-0 at the break. Rochelle Shakes pulled a goal back for Crystal Palace Ladies 8 minutes into the 2nd half however Tottenham restored their 3 goal cushion on 68 minutes Bianca Baptiste on target with the goal the final score 4-1.
Cardiff City Ladies are also through to the FAWPL Cup semi-finals winning away from home on Sunday against FAWPL Northern Division One side Liverpool Marshalls Feds Ladies. Their lower league opponents holding them to a goalless draw at half-time before goals in the 2nd half from Michelle Green and Cori Williams saw the welsh side advance into the last 4 of the competition.
Charlton Athletic Women are also through to the semi-finals after being taken all the way to penalties at home by FAWPL Northern Division side, West Bromich Albion Ladies. Kit Graham gave Charlton the lead in the 19th minute at Sporting Club Thamesmead. Amy Dickens pulled the score back level at 1-1 for West Brom just after the half-hour the scores remaining that way for the rest of the game, extra-time didn’t see anyone break the deadlock the tie heading to penalties, Charlton winning the shootout 4-2 to win a place in the last 4 of the FAWPL Cup.
Making up the last 4 in the FAWPL Cup are FAWPL Northern Division side, Blackburn Rovers Ladies after a 3-1 win away to Northern Division One side, Chester Le Street Ladies.
FAWPL Plate
3 sides from the FAWPL Southern Division and South East Division One had made it through to the quarter finals of the FAWPL Plate. Two of those set to face each other, Luton Town Ladies from South East Division One at home to Lewes Ladies from the Southern Division both will have to try again next Sunday after the tie had to be postponed due to a water-logged pitch.
Actonians Ladies are through to the semi-finals of the FAWPL Plate the South East Division One side at home taking on FAWPL Midlands Division One side, Radcliffe Olympic Ladies, both in 4th place in their respective leagues going into the game, a goal from Melissa Jung along with a brace by Carla Williams (pictured) seeing Actonians Ladies win the game 3-0 to make it into the last 4 of the competition.
Elsewhere in the FAWPL Plate two sides from the Northern Division make it through to the semi-finals of the competition, Leicester City Women beating Keynsham Town Ladies away from home 3-2 with an extra-time winner to make the semi-finals. A convincing away win for Huddersfield Town Ladies beating lower league Tranmere Rovers Ladies 7-0 away from home to reach the last 4.
FAWPL Southern Division
One match in the FAWPL Southern Division at the weekend with Coventry United Ladies moving back up a place above Cardiff City Ladies into 3rd place with an away win against C&K Basildon Ladies. The sides looked to be heading into the changing rooms at half-time with the score 0-0 until Amber Hughes found the back of the net a minute into stoppage time to see Coventry take the lead. Alison Hall extended Coventry’s lead with 20 minutes left to play before Hughes with her 2nd of the game struck the ball home with 6 minutes left to ensure the 3 points were safe. 3-0 the final score.
FAWPL South East Division One
4 games in FAWPL South East Division One on Sunday, league leaders, Cambridge United WFC opening up a 4 point gap at the top with an away victory against Ipswich Town Ladies. Nicole Perschky getting the visitors off to a great start putting Cambridge 1-0 up inside the opening 5 minutes. That the score going into the changing rooms at half-time, Danielle Puddefoot striking the post the closest anyone came to a 2nd goal. Dawn Mallett (pictured) found the back of the net from a 25 yard free-kick 15 minutes into the 2nd half to make it 2-0 to Cambridge before they ran away with the score in the final 10 minutes, Mallett and Perschky both scoring their 2nd goals of the game on 80 and 83 minutes, Puddefoot scoring with 2 minutes of normal play left to see Cambridge win 5-0.
AFC Wimbledon Ladies were on the road again on Sunday for a 2nd successive trip to Norfolk to play Norwich City Ladies the 2nd placed side having knocked Norwich out of the FA Women’s Cup with a 4-1 win. The sides playing out a goalless 1st half at Plantation Park it was Wimbleson who went on to take the lead Rebecca Sargent opening the scoring 10 minutes into the 2nd half. Norwich have plenty of games in hand on everyone else in the league 3rd bottom however it’s the points they need with just 1 win from 5 played to date. Paige Shorten getting the goal inside the last 10 minutes to see them draw the game 1-1 and see the points shared.
3rd placed Milton Keynes Dons Ladies made the long trip up to the Suffolk coast on Sunday to play Lowestoft Town Ladies at Crown Meadow. The sides going in level at 1-1 at half-time, Molly Hall scoring on 35 minutes for Lowestoft. Milton Keynes Dons with a strong 2nd half performance going on to win the game 6-2. A brace each for Leah Cudone and captain Charly Clarke with a gaol each for Charlotte Matthews and Vicky Holland. Captain, Hannah Waters with the 2nd half goal for Lowestoft.
A big away win for Gillingham FC Ladies on Sunday in the league against Denham United Ladies to see them move up 2 places into 4th spot in the table, still unbeaten in the league with games in hand on the sides above them. No goalscorers on record yet in a 9-0 victory.
FA Women’s Cup
One match postponed from last Sunday in the FA Women’s Cup 1st Round Proper with FAWPL Southern Division side, Swindon Town Ladies travelling to the South Coast to play Southern Region Women’s Premier Division leaders Southampton Women FC. The side 2 leagues below Swindon picking up a great result winning the game 2-0 with a goal in each half from Kirsty Bell and Laura Gilbank. Southampton Women FC will now be away to FAWPL South East Division One leaders, Cambridge United WFC in the 2nd Round Proper the tie to be played Sunday 8th January.
The focus in the FAWPL was on the last 16 of both the Cup and Plate competitions with 13 sides from the Southern and South East Division One vying for a spot in the quarter-finals.
FAWPL Cup 3rd Round
FAWPL Cup holders Tottenham Hotspur Ladies are through to the quarter-finals maintaining an unbeaten record in all competitions seeing off a potential 2nd half comeback from South East Division One opponents, Gillingham FC Ladies. At home Tottenham were leading 3-0 at half-time Lucia Leon opening the scoring with Maya Vio scoring their 3rd goal an own goal in between. Gillingham pulled it back to 3-1 in the 2nd half Felicity Gibbons scoring on 62 minutes, Amy Taylor scoring to make it 3-2 with just 3 minutes left, a late fightback stiffled out by Tottenham as Wendy Martin scored late in the game to make it 4-2 and see Tottenham continue the defence of the cup.
Tottenham beat Cardiff City Ladies in last seasons final and the Welsh side also join them in the quarter finals with a comfortable home win over previously unbeaten Chichester City Ladies from FAWPL South West Division One. On home soil Cardiff got off the the perfect start Kerry Bartlett putting them ahead inside 2 minutes. Chichester responded well getting it back to 1-1 insdie the opening 10 minutes Chloe Dowdell putting the ball into the back of the net. After that Cardiff took a firm grip on the tie Laura Willaims with 2 quick fire goals on 15 and 17 minutes. 10 minutes later Cori Williams made it 4-1 to Cardiff from the penalty spot. Chloe Chivers and Abbie Britton adding their names to the scoresheet to see Cardiff lead 6-1 at half-time. A quieter 2nd half Chivers added another goal to the total striking the ball home from distance to see Cardiff into the quarter-finals with a 7-1 victory.
Charlton Athletic Women were at home on Sunday in the 3rd Round of the FAWPL Cup taking on fellow Southern Division side, Portsmouth FC Ladies. It was the visitors who held the advantage at the break with Samantha Quayle giving Portsmouth the lead on the 29th minute. Charlton responded 2nd half Kit Graham scoring just 2 minutes into the restart added her 2nd goal to put Charlton into the lead 5 minutes later. Giorgia Dunne scoring to put the home side 3-1 up 4 minutes later. Graham completed her hat-trick on 70 minutes. Gemma Hillier pulled it back to 4-2 for Portsmouth 10 minutes from time as they exited the competition.
News from Portsmouth earlier in the day with the announcement manager Craig Taylor who took up the role at the start of the season is stepping down from the role. Jay Sadler taking on the role as caretaker manager.
In the final 3rd Round FAWPL Cup tie it was another all Southern Division clash and it was Crystal Palace Ladies who were celebrating reaching the quarter finals of the competition beating Coventry United Ladies at home on Sunday a close game, a single goal winning the match 10 minutes from time, Rochelle Shakes the goalscorer to send Crystal Palace Ladies through.
The draw for the FAWPL Cup quarter finals was made on Monday the game scheduled to be played Sunday 11th December.

FAWPL Plate 3rd Round
At this rate Lewes Ladies will reach the final of the FAWPL Plate without kicking a ball as for the 2nd time in a row in the competition their opponents pulled out of the scheduled tie late on forfieting the game. Lewes were due to face St Nicolas Ladies from FAWPl South West Division One their opponents unable to field a team. Lewes Ladies awarded the home win to move into the quarter finals.
Elsewhere in the 3rd round of the FAWPL Plate fortunes weren’t so good for the remaining Southern Division sides left in the competition. Queens Park Rangers had gotten their 1st win of the season in the previous round of the Plate were drawn away for a local derby against Actinians Ladies from South East Division One who have ejoyed a great start to the season, their good form continuing as captain Sinead Friel and Melissa Jung put them into a 2-0 lead. Sara Ezzahiri pulling a goal back for QPR late into stoppage time not enough as Actonians advance into the quarter finals.
West Ham United Ladies exit the FAWPL Plate at the 3rd Round stage too, at home on Sunday playing South West Division One side Keynsham Town Ladies, Whitney Locke had given them a lead to take into the dressing room 2 minutes before the half-time whistle. Geovana Christina dos Santos Alves getting it back to 1-1 for Keynsham early in the 2nd half Stacey Pearson giving the visitors the lead on 62 minutes. Yasmin Pratt scored to make it 3-1 for Keynsham with 10 minutes left on the clock. Shannon Albuery pulling it back to 3-2 with 5 minutes left for West Ham United, wasn’t enough as Keysham held on to win to move into the quarter finals.
In the final 3rd Round tie to bring you from the FAWPL Plate it was an all South East Division One clash with Stevenage Ladies at home taking on Luton Town Ladies. Goals from Jess Mckay and Joanne Rutherford seeing the visitors advance to the quarter finals with a 2-0 win.

There were also three matches scheduled to be played on Sunday in FAWPL South East Division One, heavy rain in Norfolk on the Saturday saw Norwich City Ladies games against AFC Wimbledon Ladies called off.
With the 2nd placed side not in action at the weekend that gave an opportunity for league leaders, Cambridge United WFC to extend their lead at the top of the table. The visitors to Mildenhall town FC, Enfield Town Ladies the A10 derby always a close game between the 2 sides. Nicole Perschky opened the scoring giving Cambridge the lead midway through the 2nd half. Donjeta Krasnici getting Enfield back on level terms just before half-time. Substitute, Evie Gallop restored Cambridge’s lead with 20 minutes left to play Rosie Kmita firing home 5 minutes later to make it 3-1. Kally-Ann Jo Westgrath scored for Enfield on the 85th minute, Cambridge held out for the win and the 3 points that take them 5 points clear at the top of the league.
Milton Keynes Dons Ladies are up to 3rd in the FAWPL South East Division One table with a big home win at the weekend taking on Denham United Ladies. Goals from Hannah Barrett and Heather McDonnell saw them leading 2-0 at half-time before going on to add 5 more goals in the 2nd half. Charley Clarke making it 3-0 an own goal adding to the score line. Leah Cudone (pictured left) getting in on the goal scoring action with a brace to make it 6-0. McDonnell with her 2nd of the match seeing Milton Keynes Dons Ladies move above Actonians Ladies into 3rd.
Busy start to the week so this weeks, The Round-Up is a little later than normal. Plenty of games to cover from last Sunday, largely featuring County Cup matches, 1st and 2nd Round games and that means clubs might not be in, The Round-Up where you would expect them to. A limited fixture list in the FAWPL Southern and South East Division One, and some of those ending up being postponed meant just the 4 games were played. 2 in the league and 1 tie in each the FAWPL Cup and Plate 2nd Round.
FAWPL Southern Division
Just the one league match took place in the FAWPL Southern Division this Sunday and although it is still very early in the season this was a huge match at the bottom of the table with Queens Park Rangers bottom of the table without a point on the board after 6 matches hosting 2nd bottom Swindon Town Ladies the newly promoted side just 3 points better off with 1 win from their opening 7 games. Swindon Town climb up 2 places to 8th in the table as they double their points tally with a high scoring win. Opening the scoring 16 minutes into the 1st half, Amy Watham putting the visitors in front, the lead was 2-0 a minute later Samantha Hallsworth with the goal. 8 minutes later Watham was on target again to see Swindon Town lead 3-0 at half-time. Hallsworth scored her 2nd goal of the game 10 minutes into the 2nd half. Substitute Sandy Abi-Elias coming on in the 63rd minute netted for Swindon Town on 72 minutes. Into the last 10 minutes Ellie Maynard brought on at the start of the 2nd half made it 6-0, with Watham completing her hat-trick with 3 minutes left on the clock final score 7-0.
FAWPL Cup 2nd Round
Were 2 ties in the FAWPL Cup 2nd Round featuring sides in the region scheduled for the weekend, heavy rain overnight on Saturday saw Portsmouth FC Ladies home match against Cambridge United WFC postponed, they will try again this coming Sunday.
Charlton Athletic Women were at home in the 2nd Round of the FAWPL Cup taking on fellow South East Division One side C&K Basildon Ladies. Striker Kit Graham (pictured) put Carlton into a 2-0 lead in the 1st half scoring 2 goals in 4 minutes on 19 and 23. C&K Basildon got it back to 2-1 before half-time captain Zoe Rushen with the goal. 2nd half Graham went on to complete her hat-trick scoring 5 minutes into the 2nd period. C&K Basildon battle hard to get back into the tie, Hannah Porter finding the back of the net late into the game, wasn’t to be enough, knocked out as Charlton win 3-2 to advance to the next round.
FAWPL Plate 2nd Round
2 ties were scheduled in the FAWPL Plate 2nd Round too this weekend, featuring sides in the region. Another postponement with Lewes Ladies meant to be hosting Maidenhead United Ladies who were unable to field a team.
In the other 2nd Round tie, South East Division One side Luton Town Ladies had a long trip down to the South West to play Plymouth Argyle Ladies. Nicola Henman putting Luton into the lead in the 1st half. Plymouth were reduced to 10 players just before half-time Kayleigh Lane red carded for stamping on an opponent. Luton pushed for more goals against Plymouth’s 10 2nd half but it was the home side who would score, Tori Marks levelling the tie at 1-1 on 62 minutes. Luton picked thing’s up after that, 16 year old Jodie Bellinger having come on in the 1st half due to an injury scoring her 1st goal for the 1st team, went on to score 2 more to make it a hat-trick. Plymouth pulled a goal back late into the game, Kayleigh Brown with the strike, Luton progress to the next round with a 4-2 win.
FAWPL South East Division One
One league game in the FAWPL South East Division One at the weekend, with AFC Wimbledon Ladies travelling to Kent to play Gillingham FC Ladies. The points were shared the sides drawing 1-1 both goals in the 1st half, Emma Keady’s 31st minute goal for AFC Wimbledon cancelling out Jade Keogh’s 17th minute goal for Gillingham who remain unbeaten in mid-table, whilst the point is enough to take AFC Wimbledon back to the top of the table.
Welcome to the 3rd edition of The Round-Up focusing on the FAWPL Southern and South East Division One the 2016/17 is into it’s 3rd weekend. A different slant on this edition however as the league takes a break with all of the FAWPL sides contesting the 6 leagues across the country enter the Determining Round of the FAWPL Cup. You know how it works by now into it’s 3rd season this weekend sees the sides drawn together with the winner of each tie going on to contest the FAWPL Cup proper the losing sides going on to fight for the FAWPL Plate.
Tragically 18-year-old footballer, Zoe Tynan lost her life earlier in the week an U19 England player she had recently signed for Flyde Ladies. In remembrance a tribute of a minutes applause took place before every FAWPL and FAWSL match this weekend.

A north/south split with the draw with the Northern Division drawn with it’s North and Midlands Division One counterparts. On Women’s Football East it’s the FAWPL Southern and South East Division One that’s focused on for the Determining Round sides from the South West Division One join those leagues in the draw, 16 ties to bring you and some varying and interesting results so let’s get cracking.
We’ll start with the FAWPL League Cup holders, Tottenham Hotspur Ladies who were to begin the defence of the trophy with a Determining Round tie away to West Ham United Ladies playing at their new home, Thurrock FC’s, Ship Lane. The holders proved to be too much for a young West Ham United side as they stormed into an early lead, Lucia Leon with the opening goal inside 5 minutes, Eartha Pond converted a penalty kick 3 minutes late and Bianca Baptiste was put in on goal to make it 3-0 with 10 minutes gone. Wendy Martin cored from the penalty spot herself in between a brace from Nikita Whinnett that saw the ha-time lead extended to 6-0. New signing Renee Hector headed home to score 7 minutes into the 2nd half then ex-West Ham player Kelley Blanchflower added a brace scoring in the 56th and 71st minute. Captain Jenna Schillaci taking the scoreline into double figures, Tottenham showing they mean to hold on to the FAWPL League Cup with a 10-0 win.
Last season’s beaten finalists, Cardiff City Ladies made the long trip to Suffolk on Sunday to play Ipswich Town Ladies in the Determining Round proved to strong an opponent for the side a league below them winning the game 5-0 to advance into the FAWPL League Cup proper, Chloe Chivers scoring 2 goals with Chloe Lloyd, Hope Suominen and Cori Williams scoring a goal a piece.
Not quite reaching double figures were Coventry United Ladies, winners of the FAWPL League Plate last season would love to be in the final of the Cup competition this time around and the FAWPL Southern Division side were too much at home for South West Division One side, Maidenhead United Ladies. Marie Gauntlett scoring 5 goals in the game after Helen Demody had given Coventry an early lead. Laura Cooper netting in the 1st half. Amber Hughes with a strike early 2nd half plus a goal from Jade Brook saw Coventry United Ladies win convincingly 9-0.
The early pace setters in the FAWPL Southern Division welcomed Isle of Wight side Shanklin Ladies to Sporting Club Thamesmead on Sunday. Gemma Shepherd in fine goal scoring form at the beginning of the season plundered 4 more goals against the FAWPL South West Division One side 2 in either half, Kit Graham scored in the 1st half with a goal in each half for new signing Avilla Bergin from Tottenham Hotspur Ladies her 1st goals from her new club, Jenny Newman scoring Charlton’s 8th goal a minute from time. A consolation goal for Shanklin scored by Dani Morris the final score 8-1.
Charlton weren’t the only FAWPL Southern Division side to rack up 8 goals in the Determining Round, C&K Basildon Ladies were at home with South West Division One side, St Nicholas Ladies the visitors. Were leading 7-0 at half-time, Sara Sinclair helping herself to 4 goals with captain Zoe Rushn also scoring with a brace from Charlotte Kellet. Karissa Rodney added an 8th goal early 2nd half, St Nicholas managing to stem the goal flow seeing no more goal the final score 8-0.
Portsmouth FC Ladies were at home on Sunday in the Determining Round, Lowestoft Town Ladies making the long journey down from the Suffolk coast for the match, plenty of goals in the 1st half, Eilidh Currie giving Portsmouth the lead inside the opening 10 minutes. Sarah Kempson made it 2-0 on 16 minutes. Lowestoft came back getting themselves back on level terms Gemma Moore pulling a goal back 2 minutes later then Broghan Scully making it 2-2 on 23 minutes. Emma Sherwood restored Portsmouth’s lead with half an hour played Kempson with her 2nd goal of the game seeing the home side lead 4-2 at half-time. All Portsmouth 2nd half as they went on to win the game 8-2, Currie and Sherwood going on to score a 2nd goal each Kempson completing her hat-trick in between before substitute, Gemma Hillier scored in the last 10 minutes.
Was a long journey west for Crystal Palace Ladies travelling to South West Division One side, Keynsham Town Ladies for the Determining Round. Keynsham came back 2nd half to level things up from the penalty spot, however Crystal Palace Ladies went on to win the game 2-1, Rochelle Shakes scoring the winner. Some strong performances from FAWPL Southern Division sides there however they didn’t have thing’s there own way in all the Determining Round ties. Lewes Ladies had started their league campaign well and were in confident mood as they travelled up from the South to play Cambridge United WFC, had the FAWPL South East Division One side on the back foot early on Georgia Bridges scoring from a corner kick inside 5 minutes. Were dominant at the start of the match going on to add a 2nd goal on 25 minutes through Rebecca Carter. Cambridge fought their way back into the match slowly creating chances, Lewes Dobear saving brilliantly off Nicole Perschky as she was played in behind for a one on one chance. Perschky got another opportunity to run in behind the Lewes defence before half-time sending the ball past Dolbear to score make it 2-1.
An injury time leveller for Becky Taylor
2nd half was a different story Cambridge began to dominate creating chances but finding the Lewes defence a tough nut to crack, time was almost up when the home side won a corner deep into injury time. The ball came smashing off the crossbar as Faith Hewitt struck it from inside the six yard box, Becky Taylor latching onto the rebound took it on before striking home to see Cambridge force the game into extra-time. No more goals in the 1st period of extra-time. Early in the 2nd period Lewes, Rachel Palmer hit a looping ball into the Cambridge area, defender Paige Logie heading the ball into her own net as she tried to clear. That lead was short lived, Perschky given the ball from a superb long pass from Dawn Mallett turning inside stood tall as Dolbear cam to challenge edge of her box, shifting the ball past the grounded keeper Perschky slid the ball into the empty net beyond. After extra-time the sides couldn’t be separated and the tie went to penalties, two saves from Cambridge goalkeeper before Mallett stepped up knowing her side would be through if she scored she did and was promptly buried under her joyous team-mates. Another South East Division One side to win against Southern Division opposition were Denham United Ladies, taking on Swindon Town Ladies at home. Both sides battling their way to a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes the game going into extra-time. Swindon took the lead Chyna Collings getting the goal on 102 minutes. Denham responded Allisa Down scoring to make it 1-1 before Jeta Bytyqi went on to find the winning goal 2-1 the final score.
Norwich City Ladies joined Cambridge and Denham in beating higher league opposition in the Determining Round an away trip to play Queens Park Rangers Ladies. Fell behind early on as Jennifer Critchley gave QPR the lead inside 6 minutes. Norwich were back on level terms 8 minutes later, Chelsea Garrett the player on target. Ebony Wiseman put Norwich into the lead scoring with around half an hour played. Liv Thompson got it back to 2-2 for the home side. Into the last 10 minutes of the game Norwich found the winning goal, scored by ex-Nettleham Ladies player, Kyla Love to see Norwich progress into the FAWPL Cup proper.
Gillingham FC Ladies travelled down to the South Coast in an all Division One tie playing South West side Southampton Saints. Amy Taylor scoring a hat-trick in the game with Katie Hardaker also getting on the scoresheet in a 4-0 win. Not too far for Milton Keynes Dons Ladies to travel taking on fellow South East Division One side, Luton Town Ladies advance to the FAWPL Cup competition with a 3-1 victory, Hannah Barrett, Anna Loftus and Heather McDonnell with the goals.
Last season’s beaten FAWPL League Plate finalists, Enfield Town Ladies welcomed South West Division One side, Exeter City Ladies to the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium a long journey, the 1st half remained goalless. Alena Beganovic got Enfield into the lead early in the 2nd half. They couldn’t hold on Sarah Hill netting for Exeter to make it 1-1 the final score after 90 minutes the tie headed into extra-time. Eliza Diaz got Enfield back into the lead with a minute of the 1st half of extra-time left. The win was sealed in the 2nd period of extra-time, Ellie Taladiana with the goal to see Enfield win 3-1.
AFC Wimbledon Ladies also advance into the FAWPL League Cup side newly promoted to South East Division One hosting South West Division One side Plymouth Argyle Ladies. Sian Wylie getting AFC Wimbledon the lead on 25 minutes. Kelly-Jade Whelan making it 2-0 9 minutes later. Plymouth got an immediate response Danielle Salt with the goal the advantage 2-1 to AFC Wimbledon at half-time. Plymouth’s Ezme Wells gets a goal to her name early in the 2nd half to level it all up at 2-2. 20 minutes left on the clock and AFC Wimbledon’s Rebecca Sargent sends the ball over the goal line the winning goal as the home side goes on to win 3-2.
Two South East Division One sides will have to settle for a place in the League Plate draw as they lose their Determining Round ties. Newly promoted, Stevenage Ladies were at home on Sunday playing Larkhall Athletic Ladies. Carly Bryant, Kate and Krystle German with the goals in a 3-0 away win for the South West Division side. Actonians Ladies travelled south to play Chichester City Ladies. Despite goals from Chelsea Berlin and Carla Williams, Actonians lost out going down 6-2. Chichester City with 5 different goal scorers a brace for Shannon Albuery, plus a goal each for Emma Alexandre, Rebecca Barron, Luci Challen and Cherelle Khassal.
That wraps up this edition of The Round-Up the Determining Round ties settled, 35 sides now go on to contest each competition the Cup and Plate the draws for which will b coming up shortly a preliminary round to whittle each field down to 32 before the 1st Round proper, will update the draws as soon as they’re in.
Welcome to Edition Three of The Tuesday Round-Up bringing you all the action from the past weekends women’s football action on the East of England. All of this weekends results and updated league tables are available throughout the site with more being added to it all the time as I look to get as much information into one into one place as I can over the coming weeks. Plenty of matches to cover 60+ once again with the 1st rounds of the ERWFL and Cambridgeshire League Cups taking place this weekend as aswell as the Preliminary Round of the FAWPL Cup and that is where The Tuesday Round-Up will begin this week.
FAWPL Cup – Preliminary Round
Three ties were to take place this Sunday in the Preliminary Round of the FAWPL Cup before the 1st Round proper this coming Sunday 4th October and two of those ties featured sides playing in the FAWPL Southern Division and South East Division One. The 1st of these ties featured 2 teams that wouldn’t look out of place in the final of the competition itself with Portsmouth Ladies hosting Brighton & Hove Albion WFC. It was Portsmouth who had the lead going onto half-time 1-0 thanks to an Ini Umotong goal in the 24th minute. Kate Natkiel pulled the scores level for Brighton 10 minutes into the 2nd half no one could break the stalemate in the 90 minutes the tie headed into extra-time. Charlotte Gurr was the heroine for Brighton as she scored twice in the 1st half of extra time to seal a 3-1 victory for Brighton who will now face Queens Park Rangers away this coming Sunday in the 1st Round.
In the other tie featured sides in the East it was an all South East Division One clash between Cambridge United WFC and Lowestoft Town Ladies. Cambridge are without a league win to date have one just the one competitive game so far this season, this at home against Cheltenham Town Ladies 3-1 in the Determining Round of the FAWPL Cup. Didn’t look good for Cambridge as Lowestoft opened the scoring on 2 minutes, Chloe Hoffman with the strike. Cambridge were back on level terms 12 minutes later the goal from Becky Taylor, Emma Jenkins made it 2-1 to Cambridge 10 minutes later before Taylor netted her 2nd on the 40 minute mark. Cambridge took control of the tie as Laura Bright scored on the stroke of half-time to give the home side a 4-1 lead. Bright added her 2nd 5 minutes into the 2nd half before sealing her hat-trick from the penalty spot with half an hour left to play Lowestoft’s Chelsea Clarke pulled a goal back late on the final score 6-2. Cambridge will now face Chichester City Ladies at home in the 1st Round this Sunday.
FAWPL Southern Division
With Brighton playing in the FAWPL Cup, Charlton Athletic Women were the only other unbeaten side in league action this Sunday away to Cardiff City Ladies could have climbed into 2nd spot in the table by beating the Welsh side instead it was Cardiff who ended Charlton’s unbeaten start running out 3-1 victors all the goals coming in the 2nd half Charlton going 1 nil up through Nikita Whinnett. Cardiff hit back straight away Kelly Aldridge with the goal. Took the lead on 78 minutes Michelle Green scoring, Aldridge adding Cardiff’s 3rd her brace helping secure the 3-1 win which moves Cardiff to within a point Brighton at the top. Charlton drop to 4th as Tottenham Hotspur Ladies capitalise winning 4-1 away to C&K Basildon Ladies, Avilla Bergin scoring a hat-trick to help secure the points. Amy Nash scored C&K Basildon’s goal.
Coventry United Ladies moved up to 5th in the Southern Division table coming away from Plymouth Argyle Ladies with a 4-0 win a brace from Danielle Selmes before the break, Helen Dermody and Marie Gauntlett both netted in the 2nd half. West Ham Ladies secured their 1st league win of the season in midweek a 2-3 victory over local rivals C&K Basildon couldn’t build on that success at the weekend with Forest Green Rovers Ladies the visitors to AFC Hornchurch, 3 goals in the 1st half from Jordan Gurad, Kirsty Richardson and Ella Hitchcock sealing the win. Queens Park Rangers remain bottom still searching for points after a 7th straight defeat at home to another side desperate for the points themselves Lewes Ladies the Rookette’s winning 1-3, Ellie Locke scoring twice in the 1st half after Lauren May had given Queens Park Rangers the lead in the opening minutes. Kelly Newton scored Lewes 3rd goal to move them up to 9th in the table.
FAWPL South East Division One
Crystal Palace Ladies continued their perfect start to the league taking home the 3 points for the 7th successive game running out 1-3 winners at Ipswich Town Ladies, Sarah Jones, Rochelle Shakes and Mary Robinson all on the score sheet for Palace, Roxanne Small scored Ipswich’s goal. Luton Town Ladies were unbeaten going into the weekend 2nd in the table, that came to an end when they were beaten at home 2-4 by Gillingham FC Ladies who themselves move into 2nd in the table with their 4th straight win. Gillingham went 2-0 up in the 1st half goals from Shannon Redhouse and Kallie Balfour. Luton came back to make it 2-2 with goals either side of the break from Tamara Bayne and Erica Byron. Gillingham fought back with 2 late goals Balfour scoring her 2nd with academy player Madison North getting the 4th goal.
Milton Keynes Dons Ladies stay 3rd sharing the points away to Old Actonians Ladies the final score 1-1, Catherine Murphy giving the home side the lead at half-time, before Hannah Barrett pulled the scores level in the 2nd half. Norwich City Ladies are up to 5th in the table after running out 2-0 winners at home to Denham United Ladies, Paige Shorten giving them the lead in the 1st minute. Megan Bartlett coming off the bench to score the 2nd with 8 minutes left to secure the 3 points.
Eastern Region Women’s Football League
Billericay Town Ladies stay top of the table unbeaten with their 3rd straight win 4-1 at home to newly promoted side Gt Wakering Rovers Ladies (formerly Southendian Ladies). Vicky Kinsman with 2 goals, Lucy Wyatt and Katie Whitehead also scoring. Rebecca Dalgarno scoring Gt Wakering’s goal. Colchester Town Ladies are in 3rd place winning 3-0 at home to Leverstock Green Ladies, Victoria King giving them a 1st half lead, Georgia Box and Kiera Fitzpatrick adding to the goals tally 2nd half.
It was to the ERWFL Premier Division the Supporting Women’s Football Blog travelled this weekend down to Essex to watch 4th placed Brentwood Town Ladies take on bottom side Haringey Borough Women. For all the match action click on the link below. After a scrappy opening Haringey took the lead with Ellena Finneran and Anele Komani securing a 2-0 half-time lead. Ashley Debnam gave the home side hope of a fightback pulling a goal back, but Komani went on to score her 2nd before Klesha Darroux struck from distance to seal a 1-4 win to lift Haringey up into 6th place.
One other match this Sunday, Acle United Ladies drew 1-1 with Gt Shelford Ladies both goals coming in the 1st half Alice Ladbrook netting for Acle, Gt Shelford’s goal was from Alison Wright.
There was just the one match played in Division One in the East league, Bury Town Ladies getting their 1st victory of the season beating West Billericay Ladies 4-2 at home 1-1 at the break Katy Judd scoring on 6 minutes for West Billericay, Bury Town’s 4 goals from Norma Locker , Mikaela Talbot x 2 and Catherine Upton. Michelle Stoneman scoring West Billericay’s 2nd goal late on.
Elsewhere it was cup action with 4 ties taking place in the ERWFL League Cup 1st Round. After 90 minutes plus extra time it finished goalless between Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies and Royston Town Ladies needed a penalty shootout to settle thing’s with Little Thurrock winning through to the next round winning 4-3. Extra time was needed too, in 2 other ties. Ipswich Wanderers Ladies and Hoddesdon Owls Ladies played out a 9 goal thriller. Was 4-3 going into stoppage time to Ipswich Wanderers, the goal scorers Jessy Whurr x2, Laura Tuley and Kimberley Rex. Hoddesdon had replied through Daniela Martucci, Charlotte Grogan and Kristina O’Connell before O’Connell scored her 2nd in injury time to make it 4-4 to set up extra time. Hoddesdon went on to win in extra time Rebecca Scola sending them through to the next round.
Extra time too between Sawbridgeworth Town WFC and Silver End Ladies finishing 2-2 after 90 mins Sawbridgeworth’s goals from Jill Bartholomew and Katherine Foy, Lynsey Bowman and Rebecca Hollocks for Silver End. The Essex side went on to score the only goal in extra time Hollocks netting her 2nd to give Silver End the 3-2 win. In the other tie goals from Katerina Hamplova and Charlene Moreton gave Offley & Stopsley Women a 2-0 victory over Hutton Ladies.
Norfolk
Some bruising score-lines in Norfolk Women’s Division One this Sunday as the 4 sides that look most likely to jostle for the title moved into position at the top of the table. Thorpe United Ladies stay top crushing bottom side Mulbarton Belles 10-0 at home. Charlotte Groves with 6 of the goals, Sharnie Boast adding a pair, Becky Russell also scoring. Aylsham stay 2nd like Thorpe making it 4 wins out of 4 to start the season were on the road away to Long Stratton Ladies rattled up an 0-8 win Abbie Charlton and Leanne Woodhead helping themselves to 4 each.
Brandon Town Ladies move into 3rd playing just their 2nd league match of the season scored 7 without reply at home to Fakenham Town Ladies who are still searching for their 1st points of the season. Tiffany Forshaw scoring 4 goals with Laura Brame supporting with 2, Hazel Sheperd with the other goal. A 7-0 win too for Wymondham Town Ladies like Brandon playing just their 2nd league match of the season beating Lynn Ladies to move into 4th place, Sally Hammerton and Amber Cantwell with 2 apiece, Kayleigh Holloway, Laura Hammerton and Louise Hamilton-Rout also scoring.
Goals a plenty on Division Two with Kirkley & Pakefield Ladies extending their 100% win record at the start of the season to 4 match this their biggest win so far beating Stalham Town Ladies 11-1. Jody Wells netting 5, Nikki Wigg a hat-trick, Selina Round a brace, Sophie Martin also getting herself a goal. 4 wins out of 4 too for 2nd placed North Walsham Angels Ladies beat Bohemians Ladies 3-1 at home Luci Middleton with 2, Robyn Steele with the other strike. Shannon Dade on the score sheet for Bohemians still without any points at the start of the season.
Morley Ladies are back to the bottom of the table with 3 defeats to start the season were away to Bungay Town Ladies Reserves a high scoring match came down on the wrong side of a 4-3 defeat which gave Bungay their 1st win of the season to lift them of the bottom. An even higher scoring match between 3rd placed Red Rose Ladies and Sprowston Ladies in 4th. 2-2 at half-time Red Rose went on to win the match 5-4 Sophie Lubbock netting 4 times with Emily Hutton adding a 5th goal. Laura Jenkins, Annika Skoog, Shanice Sutton and Millie Cursons for Sprowston.
In Division Three Gorleston make it 3 wins out of 3 to stay top were away to Cromer Town Ladies not the double figures tally of their opening 2 victories this Sunday won the match 0-6, Bethany Turner scoring 4 goals, Sophie Gillett and Melissa Anderson also scoring. Harleston Town Ladies are keeping up the pace with Gorleston at the top are trying to keep up with the goals scored to netted 4 times this Sunday away to Toftwood Ladies who hit back with 2 goals of their own the match ending 2-4 to Harlestson, Lauren Bond getting 2, Emily Wilson and Miryam Ruiz getting the other goals. Toftwood’s goal from Katie Hart.
Freethorpe Ladies have also made an unbeaten start to the season after 3 successive opening draws get their 1st win of the season to go 3rd in the table beating Dereham Town Ladies 5-1 away from home. Claire Garner getting 4 of the goals Cassandra Barnes also getting her name on the scoresheet.
Suffolk
East Bergholt United Ladies hold on to top spot in the Suffolk Women’s Division table as they beat Brantham Athletic Ladies 4-2 to start the season with 2 wins out of 2. Joining them in 2nd also with 2 wins out of 2 to start their season are Copleston Ladies beating Witnesham Wasps Ladies 5-0 at home Jade Horne scoring 4 goals, Amelia Deuchars with the other goal. Bacton United Ladies finally get their 1st win of the season at the 3rd attempt beating Ipswich Phoenix Ladies making their league debut at home 0-6, Francesca Rainbird with a hat-trick with Samantha Walker and Eleanor Catchpole also amongst the goals.
Was also a tie in the 1st round of the Suffolk Women’s County Cup AFC Sudbury Ladies beat Long Melford Ladies 6-1 to progress to the 2nd round with Kayleigh Steed getting herself a hat-trick Sophie Jeffery a brace with Kiera Bird also scoring in the local derby.
Cambridgeshire
Quiet on the league front on Cambridgeshire this weekend with just the one match in the Championship North taking place. Chance for Wisbech St Marys Ladies to move into the league at the top of the fledgling table took full advantage too at home to Hungate Rovers Ladies netting 5 goals with Toni Lewis helping herself to 4, Imogen James with the other strike.
Elsewhere it was action in the 1st round of the League Cup with 7 ties played this Sunday. The highest scoring game was between Stamford Ladies and Bourne Ladies finished 4-8 to Bourne. Tracey Duxbury-Mead scoring 5 of the visitors goals Charlotte Ayers 2 more and the last from Rosanna Baker. Emma Berry, Abbie Brewin, Rebecca Corby and Fran Kavanagh with Stamford’s goals. ICA Sports Ladies were beaten 1-2 by Deeping Diamonds Ladies, Danielle Walder and Ellie Caston netting for Deeping Diamonds. Tash Applegate scoring ICA Sports goal.
A new name to women’s football in Cambridgeshire this season Comberton Ladies awere yet to play a competitve match came up against strong opposition in the opening round of the league cup losing 2-5 at home to Bar Hill Women. Danielle Wilson and Kerri Hilton-Taylor got the Comberton goals. Bar Hill’s 5 goals were scored by Nadine Wejkins x2, Anna Jephson, Sam Reid and Amanda Satchell. It took extra time but 2 goals from Rebecca Rylott and 1 from Lauren Shaw gave Swineshead Institute Ladies a 3-1 away win at Little Paxton Ladies.
Downham Town Ladies took on Netheron United Ladies in the 1st round of the league cup the scores were squared at 2-2 going into the last 20 minutes George Lingham with both of Downham’s goals. Natalie Gaches and Kerry Camwell scoring for Netherton, Camwell gave Netherton a 2-3 lead before Tia Vacca added the 4th goal in the closing seconds to seal a 2-4 win. Sasha Smith and Tierney Poore scored the goals for St Ives Town Ladies as they progressed to the next round of the league cup with a 2-1 win over Cambridge Ranger. In the last tie Park Ladies who had lost heavily away Milton Ladies the previous week returned to play them again this Sunday knocking them out of the league cup, winning 3-1 with Amy Newell scoring twice, Amy Ward with the other goal, Sam Cousins scoring for Milton.
Essex
With Premier Division leaders Runwell Hospital Ladies not in action this Sunday, 2nd placed Chelmsford City Ladies took full advantage to move into 1st place as they travelled to Beacon Hill Rovers Ladies and won 6-3. Eastern Avenue also climb a place in the table up to 3rd place after a comprehensive 6-0 away to Collier Row Tigers. In the other Premier Division match Hullbridge Sports Ladies climb off the foot of the table up into 5th with their 1st win of the season 4 nil away to Walden Ladies.
In Division One their are new leaders Alresford Colner Rangers and they didn’t even have to kick a ball as they were awarded an away win against Hullbridge Sports Ladies Reserves. This is because current leaders Harlow Town Ladies weren’t in action and 2nd placed Wickford Town Ladies lost their 100% win rate to start their season losing 4-1 to Chigwell Ladies who picked up their 1st victory in the league. Chelmsford City Ladies Reserves join the pack behind Alresford moving up to 4th place with a 3-2 win at home to Little Thurrock Dynamos Ladies Reserves. In the other match Leigh Athletic stay pointless at the foot of the table as they were beaten 1-6 at home to Valley Green who record their 1st league win.
Beds & Herts
Case of another side taking advantage of the leaders not playing in Beds & Herts Division One as Hertford Town Ladies capitalised on Harvesters FC not playing to make it 3 wins out of 3 to take top spot with a 4-2 win at home against Letchworth Garden City Eagles. Kerry Oldham scoring twice for Hertford, Becky Shephred also netting a goal. Emily Jamieson and Tayla Murray scoring for Letchworth. Bishops Stortford Ladies put 12 goals past Flitwick Ladies on their own patch to move them up into 3rd leave Flitwick bottom. Elle Georgiou with 5, Inka Pearson with 4, Yasmin Smith and Hannah Mead with 2 the goal scorers.In the other match in Division One Laure Marris had given Sherrardswood Ladies the lead on 65 minutes away at Sandy Ladies, Faye Prout scored on 84 minutes to pull the scores level but the visitors nicked it at the death Rhiana Rose striking in injury time to make it 1-2 at give Sherrardswood the 3 points.
New leaders in Division Two with Hitchin Town Ladies not in action Houghton Athletic didn’t waste the opportunity to maintain their 10% win rate at the start of the season 3 in a row, rattling 6 goals past bottom side Woburn Lionesses hat-tricks from both Shakeela Hussain and Emma Hawkes. Hitchin Town slip to 3rd as Sharnbrook WFC also continue their unbeaten start to the season another high score on their travels beating Evergreen Eagles 1-7 the goals from Emily Clark, Victoria Corp and Sally Dayus all scoring twice with Jacqueline Dadd adding the 7th. Claire Hendry with the goal for Evergreen Eagles. Heavy defeat too for Royston Town Ladies Reserves going down 7-2 away to Garston Ladies FC 96 who record their 1st win of the season Larry Berryman with 5 goals, Casandra Chase and Natalie Powell netting too, Sophie Hrt with both of Royston’s goals. Watton Ladies also secure their 1st 3 points of the season with a big win 5-0 at home to AFC Kempston Rovers Ladies to move into 4th place.
In Division Three the 3 leading sides all maintain their 100% records at the start of the season with Crawley Green Ladies nudging Hitchin Belles off top spot to take the leader after beating Bedmond Ladies 4-7 away from home. Yasmin Wacey scoring in the 1st half before Nina Service rattled 5 goals into the back of the net in the 2nd half with Jessica McNamara also chipping in with a goal. Hitch Belles scored 7 goals to these without reply on the road at Hatfield Town Ladies, Shannon Page netting 4 goals, Emily Field a brace with Sophie Fairburn also getting a goal. Icknield Ladies were also on the road away to Welwyn Garden City Ladies won the match 1-4 Cyeanna Eaton scoring 2, Jodie and Zoe Molloy with a goal each. Claire Cranfield with Welwyn Garden City’s goal. Last match to bring you Kings Langley Ladies leap into 4th place in the table with their 1st win in the league smashing 10 goals past Shefford Town & Campton Ladies, Kimberly Nield with 4 of the goals, Nicola Barrett with a pair, the other 4 goals scored by Amy Earthrowl, Mary Hogan, Rachael Lee and Bethan Duro.
